The Spanish media are reporting that Carlos Vela is on his way to Southampton. They broke the MoPo rumours first too.

Hearing we after Curtis Davies & James Tomkins

Agree1 Disagree9

Yep Lambert is on his way

Agree2 Disagree12

Tomkins & £5 million for Lambert, according to media reports Tomkins has asked to leave asap & would be happy with move to Saints as he sees us still being in prem & his relationship with big Sam has hut rock bottom. We also intrested in De Jong Ajax.

West ham don't have 2 million let alone 5

According to reports, we are yet again linked with a move for Cagliari defender Davide Astori. With our lack of quality defensive cover when Fonte or Lovren aren't playing means that we might be looking to buy some defenders in the January transfer window. What do you guys think? Would you like to see us sign Astori or not?

Believable13 Unbelievable1

Yes I think a cb is a real possibility, although unsure if we would buy one in January. Our academy is good but cb don't really mature enough until mid twenties, we would have to wait along time for our youngsters to be pl quality.
I think we have a good back 5, but the weak link who doesn't look European class is fonte and Jo's. I would like to see another good rated cb, like astori, with fonte as adequate cover one side and yoshida cover for the other.

I would like Astori and Nangollan, double signing from Cagliari. Plus a quality attacker and a keeper, we'd have a right squad

Agree4 Disagree3

We've been linked with Astori for the past 4 transfer windows, it's just lazy journalism

buying 4 players in jan isn't the way to go either, it'll disrupt the squad

Agree6 Disagree2

Personally, I think that someone like Kirt Zouma would fit the Saints strategy well. He was linked earlier in the season, but is the sort of signing NC could pull off.

Agree4 Disagree1

I didn't mean 4 players in January, I just meant we're 4 players short of an awesome squad, next summer would be fine by me to sort it

Agree4 Disagree0

Can see this happening, think Cagliari have played hardball in the past to scupper any move, but have already said they're willing to let him I this window.
As long as the price is right, he's every chance of signing

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like us to sign a defender yes. bt notastori all of th endless rumours in the last 3 transfer windows when really we should get someone young not another near 30 yearo like fonte nd jos bt someone younger don't know who but not astori for me

Agree1 Disagree6

Astori is only 25! 6'2" and a brilliant defender, he'd be great at Southampton and I can see it happening too. Although I agree that having more younger defenders would be good, Samuel Umtiti is my favourite!

Agree4 Disagree0

He is 27 basically he is birthday is on the 7th of january

Agree3 Disagree3

Cagliari president has stated that all his best players are up for sale. Apparently large parts of their stadium have been closed due to safety concerns, and due to a lack of finances, he has no option but to sell.

So with Saints heavily linked to both Astori and Naingollan, could it be that we will jup into the transfer pool this January?

I see the Astori rumour has come round again. Would be great partnership with Lovren. Wouldn't be surprised if no one came in though.
If not now, surely a CB and a prolific striker in summer.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I think Davide Astori will eventually sign for Saints. Unless a bigger club beat us to it.

I'd imagine we'll go in for him in June, and pair him up with Lovren, based on how well we end up doing this season.

I did also read (Talksport) our name heavily linked with that Quagarella striker at Juventus, although I do forget how to spell that one.
And (a web site article today) mentioned we were licking our lips at possible signing of (linked to) Cheeky Kouyate (defender at Anderlecht), McDonald Mariga or Inter Milan, the Brazilian magician Diego (currently with Wolfsburg) and most likely to be likely Ever Banega who we were trying to get last time around, and also mentioned Astori again. I reckon we'll be moving in for Astori. But who knows?

That's me finished for this year.
Enjoy the Chelsea game, happy new year and high fives to everyone.

I don't think many people enjoyed that 'Dabacle in the Rain'.

I was wondering if our recent run of one win in about ten [?] is going to start to upset Mr. Cortese, we've never ever had a run like this before [obviously we're in the top division and have injury problems] but I am wondering how much his ambition is going to let him be patient?

Will it stretch to more money and better players - even in January - or might it even mean sacking MoPo for the next upgrade.

If the team take this losing habit into the next 'easier' games the club could easily be in a relegation battle rather than fighting for top six - which Fonte was waffling on about again the other day.

Currently the squad is NOT good enough for top six and the players and management need to grow up and starting talking a bit more sense in the media.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree1

Hmm, kind of agree but also disagree in parts. To put into perspective we were hit by a very cruel batch of injuries all at the same time which disrupted the team heading into the toughest run of fixtures. In my opinion it was always going to be a case of limping along like a wounded animal until the first team players were all fit again. We've one got the fa cup game next & an extra week for most to be fit again before a decent run of winnable games. We are still 9th place & 13ish points from safety with almost half a season to go so I'm not concerned. What is glaringly obvious though is our final 3rd shortfall. I'm looking forward to our full team back & no, I don't think mono should be sacked.

Fair enough comments - but MoPo has been saying that the squad is strong enough to compete so by his own words he is condemned.

He must be aware he is living on the edge now though, imagine if we contrive to lose to West Ham away, WBA at home and a few others [these teams are struggling and will be fighting for their lives, it will not be easy no matter what the majority of supporters think] he will be in some serious trouble. As far as I can tell Cortese wants this club climbing up the table not slipping back down it.

If we get another 'bout of injuries and some players leave I believe we will be in serious trouble - Shaw is either permanently ill or injured, Waynama and Schniederlin will both get suspended before the season is out.

I am a long-time fan and I cannot help but wear a cloak of pessimism despite some good recent seasons.

Some fresh blood to shake up the playing staff - that after all on a massive losing streak - might actually now be a good thing.

Oh and I can see our reserves and 'never-plays' getting us knocked out of the FA Cup Saturday when they get their chance.

Please give it a rest we have 27 points do really think or perhaps believe that we would be top 4!

Look to where we are in the league compared too last year. look where look at our squad now. This blip was always going to happen as we do not have the squad that all the teams above us have, Give it time and think about what you are saying.
