Pochettino confirms the club are interested in wanyama, damiao and banega and also admits that sharp, chaplow, barnard, lee, de ridder and Hammond are to leave the club

Source: MP Press Conference

Believable16 Unbelievable4

Did MP talk through an interpreter?

Agree5 Disagree1

Yup, on Saints Player he did

Agree3 Disagree0

Yeah he did

Agree4 Disagree0

PLEASE! PLEASE! Did MP even hint, in Spanish under his breathe or pigeon English, Guly or Fox during his press conference? He could have just mistakingly missed them off the list he named! I do hope so. We have the only Brazilian in the world that can't play football!

Agree7 Disagree13

Nope, not in Spanish, English, Spanglish nor downright profane was anything said about precisely who is leaving!

However, a number of other internet reports on the recent press conference contain words that convey MoPo's 'determination' to move some players on although, again, no names are mentioned.

Agree3 Disagree1

Stop your anti-Guly and anti-fox posts, it's a new season! Judge the team after pre-season.

Agree10 Disagree6

Cant understand the hate for Fox and Guly! I agree we now need better but they have been great for us!

Agree14 Disagree6

Does that mean jonathan forte isn't for sale then haha

Agree9 Disagree2

Omg I actually forgot that forte was a saints player. when did he last play for us lol?

Agree9 Disagree1

Did he last play for us in the championship? I can't remember. Anyway I remember Adkins thinking he had a lot of potential.

Agree6 Disagree0

I have a feeling there is at least one target signing that MP is allowing to pass way under the radar. Not sure who it might be, but for him, and the club, to freely mention some players who they are interested in suspect there is at least one who they are managing to keep very quiet. We have seen it before, and I suspect this window may be the same.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree1

Its simple Martin, The Don has applied some scillian pressure to get Messi in trouble. Now he is giving him a "favour" to ensure top legal and financial help to get him out of trouble.

In return, we now own messi. Simples.

Agree6 Disagree0

A simple case of deflection. To cause the sight of others to move away from what it should be focussed on - an effective ploy!

Messi?

Blimey!

Ronaldo?

Strewth!

There you go, thoroughly deflected now!

MP in press conference has said Osvaldo, Damiao, Banega and Wanyama are targets.

Don't think we'll sign all four though, much more likely we either sign Banega or Wanyama and either Osvaldo or Damiao.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

He's said nothing of the sort, he's basically dodged the question a load of times and refused to give straight answers saying things like 'could happen'.

Agree5 Disagree2

Say anything about defensive back up?

Agree1 Disagree2

Osvaldo wasnt mentioned.

Agree11 Disagree2

He never said anything about Osvaldo! Just wanyama, damiao and benega

Agree12 Disagree1

I stand corrected, seen the article on itv, stupid move to give away transfer details like that just begging other clubs to snatch the deals. Although the Osvaldo bit is apparently a lie.

Agree7 Disagree2

Ssn says poch is interested in Banega, wanyama and damieo. Nothing about Osvaldo.

Agree8 Disagree1

He didn't confirm interest in Osvaldo. a couple of weeks ago he confirmed he was offered around and we declined to make an offer

Agree5 Disagree1

More to the point, he said that the players that had been approached wanted to come to Southampton but that deals would be done to our (his) timescales - so, exciting times ahead!

Agree5 Disagree4

Poch also said club is highly principled and has clear guidelines, so reading between the lines he won't be joining us unless he back-tracks on his crazy demands.

Agree5 Disagree0

No mention of Osvaldo in the reports I've read so far, the other 3 seem to be definite targets though

Agree3 Disagree0

Lets hope and pray its Damiao!!

Agree3 Disagree0

St. Christopher wanyama wasn't the one with crazy demands, he wanted a perfectly acceptable wage (less than double of his wage at Celtic ), his agent on the other hand was wanting crazy amounts so we pulled out. NOT the players fault. When will people realise that.

Agree6 Disagree4

Wanyama employs his agents. You can't say it's not the players fault-he can quite easily pull them into line, if he so wishes.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree3

^As he has done, since he's been sacked.

Agree1 Disagree1

He's not actually been sacked though has he? There's actually no reputable source confirming that, just rumours.

Agree4 Disagree0

Lol, I can assure you matey, Wanyama is not giving up champions league football and heading to a mid table premier league team for half his allready small celtic (cham[pionship wages) The player will get circa 35k-40k at saints. In line with morgan, ramirez and co. It was his agent demanding 1m in fees that pissed the Don off!

Agree2 Disagree2

All of the ayers mentioned ^ are on a lot more than 25 -40

Pochettino has confirmed that the Wanyama deal is not dead, and he looks to sign 2/3 more players. Expect quality, not quantity this summer.

Southampton FC 25 man squad 2013-14 season

Goalkeepers: Boruc, Davis, Gazzaniga
Right Backs:Clyne, Gamez
Centre Backs: Lovren, Erazo, Yoshida, Forren, Fonte, Hoovield, Stephens, Turnball
Left Backs: Shaw, Fox, Targett
Centre Midfielders: Schneiderlin, Cork, Davis, Ward Prowse, Gape, Wanyama
Left Midfielders: Lallana, Guly, Rowe
Right Midfielders: Puncheon, Chambers, Stoch
Centre Attacking Midfielders: Ramirez, Banega
Strikers: Lambert, Rodriguez, Mayuka, Damiao

Believable7 Unbelievable17

If we signed Erazo, Gamez, Wanyama, Banega, Stoch & Damaio that would cost well in advance of 50 mill on top of what we have spent on Lovren already? We may recoup a little bit on sales but I cannot see us laying out all that. I really hope so though!!

Agree7 Disagree2

Total rubbish to be honest. For starters we will not be registering shaw, target etc, in the 25 man squad as under 21's don't count. Good effort at putting forward a "rumour" that we are signing Erazo still.

Agree5 Disagree1

Also chambers will be bought in as a right back.

Agree1 Disagree1

8 centrebacks?

Agree4 Disagree1

Think this is a bit ambitious.

Don't think we will sign Erazo. Don't think we will sign Gamez, that seems to have gone cold.

I think it will be Wanyama OR Banega.

Possibly Wanyama/Banega, Damiao and Stoch (those alone are worth about £40m). Personally don't think Damiao will be keen on coming to Saints. Fingers crossed though.

Agree4 Disagree0

There also appears to be 8 centre backs! If we sign Erazo, expect Fonte / Jos to leave, maybe even both. Or even some of the younger players may go on loan

Agree1 Disagree0

Wouldnt get banega anymore aswell as wanyama only one

Agree1 Disagree6

Looking at your 25 man squad, I don't really think we need erazo or wanyama as we have a lot of good players in their positions

Agree2 Disagree1

Poch has said Saints are trying to bring in two or three players and will keep hold of all of our valuable players.

Agree1 Disagree0

We don't need erazo and need better cover at LB than Fox, Taggert could be good if he's ready for the step up, Gamez is very expensive to sign just to provide cover don't you think?

Agree2 Disagree0

Does anyone have any ideas on what Right Back we will sign?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Calum Chambers

Agree7 Disagree2

Nope

Lenny

Agree5 Disagree1

He's an academy player and is considered to be a better centre midfield player

Agree2 Disagree5

Please learn your facts right, before making them up, Callum Chambers is a right sided def/mid

Agree3 Disagree1

Please get your facts right before telling people to et their facts right ;p

Chambers is at home as a RB as well as his more usual CM RM positions.

Jannersaint

Agree3 Disagree0

He plays for England and Southampton at RB

Agree2 Disagree0

Calum Chambers plays RB but because of his size and speed and that he is good on the ball he can play RM and CM but has also played CB this season dor the under 21 and because he has only just been converted into a RB this season he will need another season or two to become anywhere near as good back up for Clyne

Agree0 Disagree0

He plays at centre forward, fly half, left wing and goal defense for Southampton, England and Brazil. Jesus! get a life.

Agree2 Disagree0

Erazo- No
Wanyama- Unilkely
Stoch- No

I wish people stopped going on about how we show ambition because we are being linked with such and such.
At the moment, all we are showing is that we can sign a Croatian internationnal CB and retain our best players (so far!). That is good, but its' all it is.
I'm not saying we won't sign the said such and such, but only once they've signed can we start talking about ambition.
As things stand, our ambition should be limited to avoiding relegation.

Believable8 Unbelievable24

Don't expect many top quality signings just yet, most of the players we are linked too will have ambitions to join clubs in European competitions. The domestic transfer window has just opened so most will be waiting to see whether a bigger club than Saints will come forward, and if not they will sign for Saints. We are offering good money, but most of the exciting young players want European football more than money. Be patient.

Agree4 Disagree0

Look, the business (ie. our club) will perform far better if, in the process of negotiation, it can convince the other parties (ie. players, agents, and the other club) to keep information from diffusing. So, while that is not good from the perspective of sniffing rumors, it actually shows our professionalism behind the scenes. We shouldn't want it any other way, really! In showing nothing until the cards must be shown, It actually demonstrates plenty of ambition - much more than you, poor Pompey fan, would like us to show.

Agree2 Disagree0

You're right, ambition is bad! It has got us nowhere so far after all. let's ignore that we are not even blinking at a £20-£25m price tag for a Brazilian centre forward who, at 23, has a better goals/game ratio than neymar ^_^ let's just brush that under the carpet, southampton don't do that sort of thing and frankly, it is down right embarrassing.

Embrace and enjoy the exciting times mate. A few years ago we were langishing in league 1, chuffed to monkeys with our total outlay the season we signed lambert for £1m and Fonte for £1.2m. I can no rememeber a day in my entire life when Saints have been linked with spending this amount of money on a player of his reputation. Cortese is taking us to the table where the big boys dine. At least it looks that way at the moment! And what got us here. Solid Italian b******* and ambition!

Lost

Agree6 Disagree13

Defence was our main problem last season, we've fixed that problem with a very good CB in lovren, the only reason we scraped through at the end of last season was because the players were exhausted, now they've had a season to get used to it and will have a full season with MoPo so that hopefully won't happen, all we need is a quality striker and a DM to rotate with Cork and Spider and we'll be fine I reckon

Agree2 Disagree0

Thank you Marvin the paranoid android.

Agree2 Disagree0

As much as I think cortese is good for the club, I think he is very poor when it comes to negotiations with signing players, we don't want to wait till deadline day , get them early let the players settle, I think a top centre forward and winger could make the difference from pushing top 8 or bottom 6

Agree1 Disagree2

Surely ambition is the only way forward. If you have the ambition to try to get something you are within a shot compared to not being ambitious and trying to stabilise. Wigan tried the stabilising tactic and eventually it broke down.

"Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu looks likely to return to Spain this summer", here is another young DM (21) we could get, quality Barcelona youth product that never got a proper chance at Chelsea.

We are not in spain :/

Ssn reporting a link between Damiao and Southampton. let's hope there is no smoke without fire this time.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

No offer made but significant interest. problem it with the exception of Junhino when has there ever been a successful Brazilian in the EPL?
Newport Saint

Agree9 Disagree7

Guly? .

Agree10 Disagree6

Oscar, ramirez, luiz, all Brazilian and looking good in the epl. COYR make it happen

Agree6 Disagree3

David Luiz
elano
and don't forget Jo ;-p

Agree9 Disagree5

'when has there ever been a successful Brazilian in the EPL?'

Rafael? David Luiz?

Agree6 Disagree3

Rafeal

Agree2 Disagree4

Newport saint, are you for real. Embarrassing.

Agree3 Disagree3

I'm a Saints fan and I'd love for Leandro Damiao to come to us but I can't see it happening. Most Brazillian players who come to Europe tend to look at the recent history of interested clubs, which is why they go to Man Utd, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona etc. I don't think our recent history would instill a lot of confidence in a player of his class especially with a world cup just around the corner. Players like him need to be playing for a big club where they will get noticed more.

Agree5 Disagree2

David luiz is Playong brilliant and sandro from tottenham is also quality.

Agree3 Disagree2

I just wish that Guly would go back to Brazil.

Agree8 Disagree5

If we are looking at him, I doubt NC is going to offer the asking price for an untested player who only scored 7 times last season. Yes he looks good. But. It's a lot of money
And to be fair, if Spurs are interested I would have thought they would clinch it if they offer the money

Agree3 Disagree2

Damiao + £10mil for Guly is what I heard.

Guly really highly rated in Brazil.

Agree8 Disagree5

Apparently he was reluctant to join Spurs because they didn't have champions league football, how much chance would that give us?
It is a lot of money, but if this is true, it really does show NC's ambitions for the club and aiming for Europe will be less of a joke.
We need to get the rest of our signings done soon, we don't want players joining after the season has started.

Agree4 Disagree2

If Guly's so highly rated in Brazil why ain't he there, they must be crying out for his talents to grace the Brazilian national team.

Agree6 Disagree2

Guly has looked like an accomplished player when he's come on this season. Bossed the park a few times due to his strength and technical abilty. He is a confidence player though, and with the fans on hsi back his finishing has gone to pot. How fikle those are who boo'd him this season when he came on. his 10 championship goals were a major part of our first start in the championship season, some of them crucial wins, which kept us at the top from the word go. That and two successive managers have picked him. Lay off the blokes back and he might just surprise all you guly haters~!

Agree9 Disagree3

Not sure if serious.

Lenny

Agree3 Disagree0

Damiao + £10mil for Guly is what I heard.

Guly really highly rated in Brazil.

----I ma not a Guly hater by any means but they want £21m for him can't see Guly being worth £11m lol

Agree3 Disagree2

Good maths mate. Damiao + £10m for Guly means Guly is worth £31m.

Agree2 Disagree1

Brazilians who have been good prem players.

Luiz, Ramires, oscar - chelsea
rafael, fabio - man u (fabio played in a champions league final)
lucas, cautihno (looks amazing to be fair) liverpool
ceasar - qpr (linked with arsenal had some great games last season)
gilberto silva - arsenal
robinho (didn't set the world alight but was a sucess when played) man city

Kleberson (only messing)

There have been plenty of players from Brazil who have done well.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed029's Note - No mention for Juninho? Better than the majority of those listed.

Fabio the boy he can't make it in the QPR squad? Rafael who needs a map to find his way back to defend? Luiz can he defend. really because that's what they pay him for? Lucas come on seriously? Ramieres. I will conceed on that and Couthinho. the general concensus is that Brazilians struggle to adapt here and play on a wet tuesday winter night away to Stoke

The agent of Leandro Damiao has said that they are in talks wi an unnamed premier league side, thought to be southampton according to reports in Brazil.

Mini-Saint

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Or it could more realistically be spurs.

Agree6 Disagree5

Well it is us or Tottenham, and Tottenham have done another chatting to his agent in the past. They won't bid for him, that is all there is to it. If they wanted him, they wouldn't have just spent £17m on pauliniho

Southampton will complete the signing of Barcelona forward Sergio Araujo before the end of the week.

Believable1 Unbelievable12

Doubtful. He's only on loan for 2 seasons to Barcelona B (with option to buy) so any deal would be with boca juniors not Barcelona.
