Saints one of four prem clubs after Joel Campbell on loan from arsenal would be a very good signing if we get him

Believable4 Unbelievable16

I am not sure Arsenal would be willing to let him out, particularly on loan to a Premiership rival.

Agree3 Disagree7

Arsenal are quite often loaning players to other teams in the prem. and we are hardly a rival to them.

Agree11 Disagree4

Yeah but he is quite a high quality talent, what they'd be doing loaning him out in the first place would be a mystery.

Agree3 Disagree4

By loaning him out to southampton it would give him the chance to play against clubs in the premiership therefore giving him vital experience. It would also give them e chance to take points off clubs like man city, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool

Agree9 Disagree1

Arsenal wanted to use him in their team but struggled to get a work permit, likely to go abroad if he does go on loan

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - they got a work permit for him last season but still sent him out on loan, Wenger didn't feel he was ready for the Prem then. I would think he would have no difficulty getting a work permit now either. Wenger hasn't decided what to do about him yet.}

I think arsenal wil either keep him or sell him to capitalise on his fairly successful World Cup

Arsenal will either keep him or sell him.
Thanks for that insight Saintsmiff

Agree12 Disagree5

I think he meant but or sell as in not loan.

Spider and lovren are looking to move, and with spider on a rumoured £9000 a week I don't blame him. Question is, is there any rumours of offering him improved contract? I though our key players would be on more like £50,000.

I have said before that I think Marshall is just about the best keeper in the league. If true about an offer I think that sort of money is too much. Better to spend it on high quality CB's to protect the keeper not rely on a top class keeper to keep them out. Would still love Marshall to come but I think 7 to 8 would be tops money wise.

I can only assume he signed the same contract a few years ago and just never got a new one. I'll be surprised if he does go without the board at least offering him a new contract.

It seems to me that our wage structure has been the main reason for the mass exodus from all your comments. If true and these top quality players were on Championship wages and also not getting their promised bonuses it would appear they have had a justifiable reason to leave. Especially if there was no chance of negotiation and just wonder whether MoPo could see this as a major problem with player recruitment. Sounds a little like the day Gordon Strachan wanted to take us to the next level a few years ago and was politely told to " go away " by Mr ( I'll stick it in my bank account, thank you ) Lowe. Hope not otherwise we have no chance of progressing.

Agree9 Disagree4

Chrisdownj didn't strachan have the chance to sign Malouda and Drogba? crazzy

Agree5 Disagree1

We also had a chance to sign many players until they found out we probably were bankrupt! By the way how is the QPR manager getting on. hhhmmmmmm

Agree5 Disagree1

05 Jul 2014 15:59:21
Yeah. In Strachan's autobiography he talks about 'he that shall not be named' and our previous chief scout refusing to pay £1/2 mill for Drogba. They took Delgago instead.
Not sure about Malouda but they also refused Van der Sar about the same time.

Starchan and Rupert Lowe went to watch Drogba playing for Guingamp. After the game Lowe decided to offer 400k for Yahia the Algerian centre back and did not think Drogba was worth 1.5. 2 months later Marseille paid 1.5 for Drogba and sold him 12 months later to Chelsea for approx 20 mill

Agree4 Disagree1

So am right in thinking, ramires is on £30,000 - £50,000 and and one of our key players are on under £10,000. Surely that's not correct.

Agree9 Disagree1

Sounds like Lowe did the right thing in not spending more than Saints could afford

Agree0 Disagree4

He took most of it Dave along with other dodgy characthers.

Lo*e did the right thing?? How much did we pay for tin man? 3mil wasn't it?
As Chris said. Amazing how we made all those millions on sales of players and when the new board came in they couldn't find a lot of it.

Is it true that southampton have put in a bid for cardiff city's goalkeeper david marshell around 13.5 million its said to be I don't know if this is true or not. (what do you guys say?)

Believable2 Unbelievable9

£13.5m? He's good but he's not that good, I'd rather go for someone like Fraser Forster for like £4-6m

Agree7 Disagree4

Marshall is a great 'keeper but I think he could be bought for less than that. To be spending more on him than on Pellè or Tadić doesn't seem right to me, regardless, I would be very happy if he signed.

Agree6 Disagree1

Celtic fan here, Fraser Forster for 4-6m u are way off the mark mate more like 10m for a proven champions league GK don't believe everything written in the tabloids.

Agree5 Disagree6

I do really love it when celtic fans mention the champions league

Agree6 Disagree0

Playing in the qualifying stage of champions league isn't exactly going to bump up a players' price

Agree5 Disagree0

I find that quite funny. A relegated side who are in debt wanting more for Marshall than Tottenham paid for lloris, mad! You should pay 7 million max, surely.

Looks like we're interested in Armero. Is this a sign of 5-3-2?

Good player. Just need to sign someone soon. Shame we never went for caulker to boost our defence. If Lovren n spider go we have a job on our hands in rebuilding and bringing new talent through.

Agree4 Disagree2

05 Jul 2014 13:11:08
Agree. With so many of our seasoned players going. It will be nigh on impossible to rebuild to the same level with the same level of team spirit.

If what someone put a day or two ago about other teams knowing we are cash rich at the moment, it does make me nervous we are going to be priced out of many of the players we want.
Was hoping to have at least two or three in place soon so we could get some kind of pre season team building under our belts.

I do have faith, I always have done. But. We have a massive mountain to climb at the moment

Agree2 Disagree0

I know he used 5-3-2 but he won't use it all the time, he'll vary our tactics as he mainly uses 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 too, he'd be a good signing but would like to see Targett be given a chance

I don't think anyone has posted this, but yesterday saints rejected an undisclosed bid from Cardiff for Jose Fonte.
He's a key player, let's hope they don't do a Liverpool and bully us into selling.
Also it's nice to see at least one player linked with a new club who's not thrown his toys out the pram to force a move

Believable4 Unbelievable5

I doubt Fonte will leave, as he'll probably be named captain if Morgan and Lovren go

Hearing from a good source that we are keen on Stephan Lichtenstein, might be something around the osvaldo move

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - is that the Juve right back you mean? Lichsteiner? Auto correct I am assuming.}

We still have Clyne and Chambers so I doubt we'd go for another RB, good player though

According to the Daily Star, Morgan Schneiderlin is so confident he will be leaving Southampton he has told team-mates he won't be back after his World Cup break. Arsenal and Tottenham are leading the race to sign the French midfielder. Personally I don't believe he has said this, but do fear he will leave.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

I read that article. It's just pap journalism: no quotes, no sources, no story. Saying that, I do think he'll leave. I just hope that for every £20-odd-million player we sell, we buy two £10m replacements who are just as good.

Agree8 Disagree3

05 Jul 2014 16:04:25
Trouble is for every £20million we make each of the £10 million replacements we'd like double in price. They know we can afford it and they know in a few more weeks we'll be desperate to have enough players just to name a 1st 11.

Bloody awful management from the board and this whole disaster is of their own making.

Agree6 Disagree11

You can't just force players to sign. Koeman is still new. The World Cup is still a distraction.

According to the Daily Mirror, Southampton are ready to make a move for Livorno striker Paulinho, who scored 15 goals in Serie A last season.

I was just about to post this and ask if anyone else had heard about it. Is he any good? Seems to be too many paulinihos playing

Agree5 Disagree0

So I guess we haven't learnt our lesson from buying people from Italian league osvaldo Ramirez
