I read a Swedish sports paper and it said that Leandro Damiao's agent has said in an interview that Southampton have been interested. He also said that they did not reach an agreement with Saints since Damiao is looking for a more ambitious club. That is a weird reason if you ask me since I believe that Saints is one of the most ambitious clubs in Europe right now for young players to develop in.

Cheers, Swedish Saint

Doesnt remotely surprise me. Thought it had been going on too long. Think we are going to struggle with time and options now.
Could cause us trouble next season. We desperately need a striker and an attacking midfield.

Agree4 Disagree5

Sounds like another agent trying to make as much money for himself as he can!

Agree2 Disagree2

I have also read this, this to me confirms our interest in damiao is probably finished. It also adds further significance to recent rumours circulating at the moment. Recent snubs: osvaldo, damiao, and now apparently sow, remy, cavani, aguero

Agree4 Disagree5

Not sure how much they really know about it. I can't see us getting him though. So far seems to be a case of Internacional won't let him go unless they receive some unrealistic offer.

Agree1 Disagree0

Seems odd about wanting a more ambitious club, then again, he thinks he's good enough for a top 4 club

Agree3 Disagree0

He wants champions league football or the move isn't worth his while.

Seems fair enough, doesn't make him or his agent bad people. We're a small club. We are ambitious, but you need to cut some slack for translation/interpretation of quotes (presumably quotes were in portuguese then translated), don't take it personally. I'm sure the 'ambition' comment simply meant we weren't a club at the top end of things in Europe - fair enough for now.

Agree4 Disagree1

Agree with the above, I believe he didn't mean ambition, he meant a big top x team in europe. You can't really blame the guy for trying to hold off for a top team in europe in champions league, who would also pay him more.

but if the offer from a top team doesn't come in he still may come to us, just biding his time seeing what happens.

We didn't bid for osvaldo so how could we have been snubbed by him? MP has been quoted on saying it himself.

Agree2 Disagree0

Personally I think what ever happens with Damiao it will go to the final few days of the window before we see a move. He's clearly holding out for one of the top teams in Europe and let's face it he's good enough to warrant that. So I don't blame him. IMO if any of us were in his boots we'd do the same thing. However if a top club doesn't come in for him we may be in with a shout.

The merrygoround has to start - Suarez, Rooney going will start the ride - let's see!

Agree1 Disagree0

Getting bored of his name

{Ed001's Note - think yourself lucky, I have had years off it on the Spurs site!}

According to the papers, southampton are interested in signing moussa sow of fernebache. He looks quality and could be the finisher that we need. He is 27 but I don't think that should matter as we could get him for a lot cheaper than damiao or osvaldo and he could give some extra experience and firepower in front of goal. What do you guys think of this? Would you prefer sow or damiao/osvaldo?

Believable7 Unbelievable7

Damiao. Just to see the faces of Tottenham fans

Agree11 Disagree0

Would still prefer Damiao, he's a great all round player. Sow is a good finisher, but would still cost £15m at least

Mini-Saint

Agree7 Disagree3

He seems to be happy at Fernabache so think unless the club want to get rid it isn't going to happen.

Agree5 Disagree1

Rumour has it that Billy Sharp wants to fight for a place at Saints and all this agent talk was rubbish put out by someone not even representing him. I think if we don't get our star striker we would be best keeping him, he will score goals. Not first choice but will very handy to have on the bench. Worth a try and it won't cost us anything.

Agree9 Disagree4

I think the only reason Billy is still here is that the club aren't stupid enough to sell him until we have another striker on the books.

If Lambert was to go down with an injury we would have only Jayrod and Maryuka. both of which are strikers that like to run at defenses. Billy's more of a stocky centre forward and sniffs out the goals, wouldn't fill a lambert role of course, but if you give him the right service he would ping them in for sure.

Agree4 Disagree3

The only reason Billy is not sold is that no one has come up with an acceptable offer. A season long loan is not an option, as NC wants him off the books.

Agree3 Disagree2

Billy wouldn't score in the prem, majority of the goals he scored in the championship came from mistakes from defenders and balls that premiership defenders would deal with. He'd struggle in the prem just like he struggled last year

Agree3 Disagree4

I think we paid well over the odds
and will struggle to redeem half wot we paid

Agree2 Disagree3

Got to say I think we should keep sharp anyway he deserves a chance and he could be like le fondre super sub get some important goals but most of all deserves it just for the goals against p****y but wouldn't mind another striker

Saint C

Agree4 Disagree3

Why does Billy 'deserve a chance'? Cause he signed for saints and didn't play in the prem? By that logic Forte deserves a chance. Harding, Hammond and Barnard we're all better players over the time they played for us, yet no one thinks they deserved a chance. There's no room for sentiment in football, Billy clearly isn't willing to put the effort the other players do in or maybe he simply isn't good enough, hence why he's not in the squad and why he doesn't deserve the chance over someone better

Agree2 Disagree3

Don't think damiao is going to happen, just read his agent said an approach was made but he wants to move to a more ambitious club. Which translates to more money.

Agree2 Disagree1

Sharp deserves the chance what if lambert and Rodriguez get injured then who have we got sharp is more than capable he's came out and said he will fight for his place so shows he is willing to and as for the other players u mentioned we have jut had better players in them positions and tbh damaio looks as if it won't happen we seem to take an age to sign players why don't we learn from sir Alex he brought players early to get them settled in and have pre season together then his teams were class come the start of the season if we put a striker in now he's got no time to adapt to our style of play

Agree1 Disagree1

Am I the only one to think Mayuka cannot be counted on to score regularly and has far from proven himself since he has arrived?!

Agree1 Disagree2

I think I am going to start a petition to get Billy Sharp to stay at Southampton and try and present it to the Southampton Board as I think he deserves his chance in the Premier League who's up for it?

Agree1 Disagree6

I don't think Billy is good enough and as far as Mayuka goes I think more likely to be one for the future.
We need goals. We need clinical finishing from a darn good experienced forward who is going to push on from last season. I cannot see how either will do it for us.
Mayuka needs to get more experience. Probably on a loan.

Agree1 Disagree0

Most people would have said, not us Saints fans, that Rickie would never make it in the Premier League if asked 3 years ago. In fact they were still saying it before the start of last season. Give Billy a go, if it goes pear shaped we have lost nothing but I have a feeling that though not a great player, he would give everything he's got and will score goals. Remember he was the main reason at the end of the Championship season that we limped over the line.

Agree1 Disagree1

Billy is a good poacher, but in the system we play [1 primary target man up front] he won't work. He is not tall enough, strong enough or technically good enough to fill that position. Mayuka at least has pace but I think he will be used to fill the attacking midfield position rather than the out and out striker position. Personally I would rather have someone who would add genuine competition to Rickie. As the above poster said, Billy got most of his goals off the back of dodgy championship defenders [with clinical finishing] but those chances will be few and far between in the premiership.
