Sharp off to reading

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Thought that sharp had flunked the medical at reading a few weeks ago? what has changed?

Agree1 Disagree6

Sharp said in the local press a while back, that he never had a medical at Reading, so can't see how he flunked it.

Wanyama left out of Celtic squad for friendly.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Means that he's not fit. Mirror reporting that Everton are now interested but we know what happened when Rodriguez was linked there. He signed for us.

Agree5 Disagree1

Bit different now. Rodriguez wasn't holding out for a better deal, Wanyama is. Pretty clear he isn't too fussed about coming to us

Agree2 Disagree1

Everton are hunting for cover in case flaminininini goes to arsenal. Earlier rumour was jack cork to everton which might have lured jack because silly roy only picks English players from certain clubs.

Agree2 Disagree2

Interestingly, he's been left out of both of Celtic's pre-season friendlies. Not even in the squad! That would lead me to conclude that he's going somewhere very very soon. and it would seem that 'somewhere' is probably Southampton!

Agree2 Disagree2

He only started pre season on Wednesday, along with another player so he's not fit. Ad when was the last time Everyone payed £12m+ for a player? Scottish sun have reported that Saints have reignited their interest according to Neil Lennon

Mini-Saint

Agree0 Disagree1

Wenyema is a natural replacement for Evertons last big signing Fillaini (sp) who seems to be on his way. They will have the money and will be more attractive (if you're can think as a neutral for a minute) than we are. Baines is also likely to give them a windfall.

Jannersaint

Agree2 Disagree2

Why does everyone think Wanyama is a natural replacement for Fellaini? Fellaini played behind the striker for most of the season at Everton, Wanyama is a DM.

Out of the three transfer that pochettino has linked us with (damiao, banega and Wanyama), what order would you rank them in with 1. being the best signing out of the three and 3. being the worst signing out of the three?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Why would that matter they would all bring something to the team

Agree8 Disagree2

They'd all be fantastic signings and bring something to the team. Banega is probably the least needed out of the three but none would be a 'bad' signing

Agree5 Disagree1

None of them would be worse than another, you can't really compare them

Agree3 Disagree2

Where is the width? Strengthening the spine is one thing. But we have to be able to cross the ball into the box.

Agree3 Disagree2

Banega would be the best signing of the three in my opinion considering both price and ability.

Lenny

Agree5 Disagree1

Damiao, banega, wanyama

Agree2 Disagree1

Mine would be 1. Damiao 2. Banega 3. Wanyama

Agree2 Disagree0

Why would benega be the worst? have you seen him play?

Agree3 Disagree1

I suspect because Pochettino has admitted some interest in the three players there will be some smoke and mirrors underway here, and we could see all three at St. Marys, OR totally different players that have been under the radar.
The one definite point to come out of the press conference and his subsequent comments is that further quality signings are being pursued. I am not convinced that the three quoted "targets" are Saints preferred additions. NC plays a very crafty game and I suspect there could be some surprises.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree2

Banega, damiao, wanyama

Agree0 Disagree1

I think they mentioned them becaus they feel there's a real chance and knowing we are after other quality players helps to persuade them.

Agree1 Disagree1

Banega, damiao, wanyama

Just seen someone who has definite links with one of the coaching staff and knew the Lovren Deal was on a few days before it happened has posted some more bits of information given to him by said coach.

- Surprised Wanyama has not been completed, but also notes NC, LR & MP try to keep specifics on how negotiations are going quiet

- Lovren deal had been done a number of days before it was announced to the public

- Cortese, Reed & Poch working very hard and he expects at least one of the player MP was talking about to be signed

- all the coaching staff are big fans of Damiao

- early fitness test results are much better than last year and squad currently doing double sessions (9am and 5pm)

- good vibe at the club

- Kelvin doing his badges and may end up on the coaching staff

- Luke Shaw's new deal will have a release clause in excess of £20m

- Chambers and Targett to be used in pre-season

Believable18 Unbelievable7

All seems pretty reliable but never trust these

Agree4 Disagree1

Lets just hoep we can get Damaio and wanyama asap before other rumored clubs (NAPOLI), (CARDIF)come in for them 2 COYR

Agree8 Disagree2

Oh I do hope Kelvin joins the coaching staff when he retires. You see him with the young keepers and they just drink in his experience. A really excellent teacher for young keepers like Cropper. I really hope this one is true.

- TJ

Agree8 Disagree5

Not sure how much of this is true and made up, but seems like a decent shout with all the points you have mentioned

Agree5 Disagree3

This is all from reliable poster on SWF

Agree3 Disagree2

Some things like "Lovren deal had been done a number of days before it was announced to the public", "all the coaching staff are big fans of Damiao", "Chambers and Targett to be used in pre-season" and particularly "good vibe at the club" are a given.

Other things like "Kelvin doing his badges" is something that even if you were wrong, it would be forgotten before it was proved or disproved.

Forgive me for being cynical but I think this is bs.

Lenny

Agree13 Disagree6

Agree with Lenny, anyone of us could have come up with thid no shot Sherlock bs.

Agree5 Disagree3

Disagree all you like, this comes from a member of pochettinos coaching staff

Agree0 Disagree4

I find it hard to believe they'd allow Luke a release cause let alone such a cheap one. Surely they'd have it in excess of £40million so they could guarantee their moneys worth if someone does pay the buy out clause when he is truly excellent.

Agree3 Disagree3

^players and agents dictate the release clause.

Jannersaint

Agree2 Disagree2

Surely the club must agree to it though?

It would be like Ramirez deciding his release clause was £1m. That would hardly be fair.

NC has always done business under the radar,. yet at the MP press conference MP confirmed intrest in 3 players (Wanyama, Banega + Damiao )! Why would they speak to press?. Has deals been done?. or are deals close so that they can put 2 fingers up to the press that printed in some papers that Saints had been rejected by 2 other players including wanyama. (wanyama, Nainggolan + Osvaldo). which ended up being complete sh**!. no offers had gone in for the other 2 and the wanyama deal broke down because of his greedy agent! Could we see all 3 sign soon? I wonder?

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Adkins won't give much away as to who the new striker will be at reading so maybe it was Nigel all along that kept things quiet. who knows

Agree6 Disagree0

Wanyama knows a top prem club is coming in for him southampton does'nt fit the bill.

Agree4 Disagree12

Could mean the deals are done. It was only after the work permit came through for ramirez that we found out that the deal had been signed over a week hefore the announcement. Tottenham have changed focus to villa as a striker option which might hint that they can not sign a particular Brazil striker because he has gone elsewhere already. Or this is just all made up tosh and we are blindly guessing.

Agree7 Disagree1

Theres no secret that we are actively after these players & the airing of this in public could be down to a number of factors including a bit of PR to put Saints on the global football map to make us appear a more attractive proposition for potential players or the most obvious one is to deflect attention away from another potential massive signing that we don't want other clubs sniffing around at.

Agree8 Disagree1

Right with you there mate! With every Southampton fan behind me.

Southampton youngster Matt Targett has joined Stephens, Turnbull, Britt and Rowe in signing professional deals at Saints

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Shaws 18th birthday on the 12th, let's hope he signs for 5 years too :)

Agree6 Disagree1

Just had a look on OS and couldn't see anything about this, that's quality tho

Agree3 Disagree0

So has jake flannigan targett's best mate

Agree4 Disagree0

"England Under-21 star Luke Shaw has agreed a £25,000-a-week deal to stay with the Saints until the summer of 2018".

Agree4 Disagree1

Shaw has already effectively signed, this happened way back in September with JWP. just can't be made official until he turns 18 on the 12th.

Agree2 Disagree2

Good luck to all these youngsters but as i've learnt in the passed few seasons getting a proffessional contract doesn't mean they are in around the first team it means they are an u21. Anyone know if any of these players have been promoted to the first team.

Agree0 Disagree1

1st year scholar Josh Sims has also signed a professional contract

Hi ed, any news on the 3 signing we are suppose to be interested in?

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I see that Napoli are trying to hijack the Damiao deal, the other two players I haven't heard anything new on.

Agree10 Disagree0

1 deal has already completed last week & we are just awaiting official announcement. Not sure who that player was but due to delay from completion to announcement we can safely assume it is an overseas player.

Agree5 Disagree5

The only stuff about napoli and damiao is from a month or two ago and there's nothing about them making a bid, at any point

Agree5 Disagree1

Napoli were interested a few months ago but are looking at brining in dzeko from city

Agree5 Disagree1

Napoli are looking at dzeko instead of damaio to replace cavani when he leaves

Agree3 Disagree0

Napoli looking at dzeko and jovetic instead

Agree3 Disagree1

Looks like saints could sign all 3

It's all well and good being interested in all these players but we need to hurry up and start signing them as we are getting well and truly left behind in this transfer window! COYR

Believable14 Unbelievable12

Yeh find it strange other teams seem to take a lot less time where as saints take ages when it comes to signing players giving other teams a sniff and being frustrating

Agree5 Disagree6

You only need to look at the quality of those signings by teams making in roads to see that we are doing it the correct way - quality over quantity. Using Sunderland as an obvious example, Niall Quinn has already spoken of his concern of these transfers.

Agree5 Disagree1

Because we're run in a smart way, we don't give in to stupid wages and like to negotiate. I'd rather we take a while to sign the right players than end up like the blue few (again)

Agree3 Disagree2

The transfer window hasn't been open a week yet! Have patience

Agree5 Disagree1

Well qpr bought loads of players quickly in the last 2 windows and look how that turned out

Agree8 Disagree0

Window closes at 31st August plenty of time to get deals done

Agree3 Disagree0

Thats because they wait to see if they get a better offer.

Agree1 Disagree1

Deals could be done in june its just they don't officially join until 1st july
