damio set to sign for napoli sky sports news
Believable12
Unbelievable17
I have read what the agent, has said, and in know way does he say at any point napoli are front runners! He clearly stated that there is a club who intend to sign him! But didn't give anything else, but said " the rumoured fee is a lie" at no point in the interview did he state napoli are winning the race! Sorry but until he signs for napoli I don't believe it! It was the same last year with Ramirez
Agree8

No, they are favourites to sign him even though his agent gave nothing a way in saying: 'there is a club that intends sign the player' Napoli are just favourites

I am probably missing something but everywhere I look about Napoli wanting him is a few months ago.

It amazes me how many things can be made up in football these days, the game is run by the newspapers these days, and it ruins the game! Napoli have been linked with djeko and and others and even Benitez has come out and said that he thinks Djeko could score 25 goals for napoli a season! And would be a greta buy for the club! So why would they want damaio? I very much doubt it and we have come out with a bid and stuff, so seeing as the agent has stated one club is very interested in signing him, how the hell does that put napoli in any sort of postion to sign the player when its been said lots of times they have recieved one bid, and that is well known to be saints? Am I wrong?
Agree6
Disagree2
A little wrong, we have in no way confirmed a bit has been made, nowhere has it says a bid has been made (in confirmation). Sky italia reported we were in advanced talks and close to a deal, but these are the people that also said Napoli are signing him, they also said we bid for Osvaldo, which isn't true. They also said we had signed Astori. when we haven't. Damiao could be off anywhere, if he even is at all.

A while back I stated that Southampton were looking to build a new Stadium, rather than extend. Today I can confirm that Southampton FC have bid for 20 acres of the Ford factory site. Apparently they have placed a bid for one third of the Ford site, in conjunction with a Leisure group to build a new football stadium, a leisure center, and several mini 5-a-side pitches.
No decision will be made on future use of the site until the factory has completely shut down.

Are stadium isn't old and I can't see us moving again to be honest but interesting if true thanks for sharing
clarkey saint
Agree7

It'll never happen. How many stadiums do we want. Extending St Mary's is the obvious answer.
Agree12
Disagree4
But the factory is still to produce the sports model transit as the other factories in turkey and wales do not want to produce it and if this is true then the site is not big enough to be able to do this as well building a mega sports complex on the site!
Agree4
Disagree6
This was discussed on the local Politics show on the BBC this morning, so it's a matter of public record. From what I've heard all production on the site is due to stop at the end of the month.
I was previously aware that Nicola had been looking at alternative sites for a new stadium, as an alternative to expanding St Mary's.
Agree5

Can't see building a new football stadium and leisure complex next to the airport is the greatest idea
Agree3
Disagree4
Need a larger 'site' to store all this unfounded rumours floating around!
Agree4
Disagree2
Surely the obvious option is to expand st Mary's? Look what happened last time we built a new stadium, we were relegated twice, went into administration, it was a depressing place to visit, half empty and nearly destroyed us.
Agree5
Disagree5
NC stated a while ago tht SMS might not be able to extend due to travel for extra fans through all the surrounding businesses. He also said that moving to a new site was a real option. FACT
Agree6
Disagree3
In my opinion moving away from st Mary's wouldn't be all that bad because a new stadium takes a minimum of 5 years of so, by then we would hopefully be an established premier league side with European football on the cards, we sell out pretty much every match as it is at st Mary's so we need some kin of expansion or new stadium
Agree1
Disagree1
As a Steward For Southampton and Hearing Directly From a high Superior of Southampton Football Club I Can Happily Say That Any News of a possible New Stadium is Completely FALSE!
Within The Next 2 years & Based on Our Status in The EPL Saints Will Look into Upgrading St Mary's Stadium With an Upper Tier Across The Kingsland Stand Which Will Look to Expand our Capacity From 32,000 To Around 40-45,000.
Agree8
Disagree4
St Marys may still be 'new' but it was always a compromise on what they really wanted, one with easy rail, motorway and air links. It was built under an old regime - the new one do want a new stadium and complex to build the club, we cannot be a top 4 team at the current site due to all its limitations. Expanding won't help the infrastructure.
Agree3
Disagree0
Sounds a lot more logical than building a new one.

Cheers saintsteward. Shame you had to say it really. It's not been a secret. Was even in the season ticket video a while back.
Club even produced pictures of the idea.
Jannersaint

I don't think expanding the stadium will help the already bad traffic or our status in the pl. if we act too early we will end up like Wigan with a ground we can't fill and a bad team. If we make a new stadium it will take 5 or so years we will need constant financial backing and a very decent pl team (both of which we have at the moment), also we need to fill our stadium every game through those 5 years to make it worth our while.
Agree1
Disagree0
My understanding was the expansion of St. Marys was subject to the Council making serious improvements to the access in and around the area.
I don't think NC will sit and wait for them to come to the decision he wants and I am certain he will have other possibilities up his sleeve. It was certainly rumoured a couple of years ago that this may require a new stadium. Let's face it, the Council are skint, so is a major development of the transport links around St. Marys very likely?
Saint Martin
Agree3
Disagree1
Just repeat part of an old post I put on here a while ago. Cortese stated that in a major interview with Radio Solent about 2 years ago that his intention was to build a new stadium with corporate facilities, hotel etc. part of a major complex. St Marys was not and never will be the place to be due to traffic, transport and policing difficulties. He said it, and even though the stadium has been built to put another tier on this will only be a short term project. The 7 million potential cost of this would be relative peanuts in the whole scheme of things. This is not just made up bulls. t look it up and you will hear the man himself saying exactly this.
Agree2
Disagree2
I'm sorry Saint Martin but the last statement you made isn't exactly true. The Council in Southampton is a lot more well off than they let on. Southampton has not been hurt badly by the budget cuts as it naturally runs surplus' on it's annual budget due to plenty of high earners in the area.
Therefore they have the funds to invest in infrastructure and due to the new investment in infrastructure schemes soon to be brought in by George Osbourne improvements in the city's transport system are not only plausible but to be encouraged. Potentially millions could be spent on re-developing the docks and road network around Southampton to improve our position to trade internationally as well.
Sorry to go on such a rant but statements like that have been winding me up in my line of work for a long time. (From the context it shouldn't be too hard to work out what I do but I won't confirm it incase I've said anything I shouldn't. )
Agree1
Disagree2
I think in a few years the possibility of a different stadium will unfold
for now its worth considering that a large part of the fords factory is a listed building. its a big space but i'm not sure it would work
Agree1
Disagree0
Two thirds of that land belongs to southampton airport if this has an inkling of truth to it, it would cost the Liebherr family a fare few £'s to make this happen and to be honest and I expect they would be very reluctant to do so as it would be some what cheaper to expand st marys and also st marys lies right at heart of southampton city so why move from the best location in town!
Agree0
Disagree2
Sorry SaintsSteward, I forgot that Nicola consults everything he's doing with his staff. Saints are obviously bidding for the land because they don't wan't to build a new stadium, and Nicola has previously been joking when he was asked about expansion at St Marys, and he said that they might move to another site.
Seriously? Mate, the bid is a matter of public record. Next time your having a direct chat with this high superior from the club, perhaps you'd like to ask him what Saints are doing bidding for 20 of the 60 Acres available, and specifying that they want the land to build a football stadium, if they don't want to build a stadium there?
Agree1
Disagree1
The best place for our stadium always had been the sports fields opposite the airport and train station we failed to get planning for all those years back. That really would be an ideal place for transport links.

Surely the move to the Ford site wouldn't be permanent? We would only be in Transit :-)

Well, I note from our local "politician" GO is going to help solve the infrastructure in and around Southampton!
Sorry, I am in my 60s and will not be around to see it. Just look at the delay in permission to dredge the Solent (as an example) to allow for increase in trade!
Whenever the public sector are involved in solving these problems they end up taking decades and costing double what they should. I just don't think NC will allow himself to be controlled by such events and will be looking at other options.

The Ford Southampton site is 44 acres, surrounded by a cemetery on one side, a housing estate and a motorway on others.
It would take some creative architecture to fit everything you mentioned on there. Let's face it, it would be quite cosy.
Besides, production may stop at the end of July but Ford are planning to use the site for vehicle maintenance and 150 people have already their employement confirmed for that purpose.
So I suggest that this is just a load of BS.
Agree0
Disagree0
To the above poster, how can it be a load of BS when it was discussed on the local politics show on the BBC?
Personally I have no idea of the size of the site, other than it's significantly bigger than our current site, but it was reported at a size of 60 acres.
I'm sure that in the coming months more will be made clear. However, all I was doing was reporting the fact that the future usage of the ford site was discussed on local television by the presenter and local politicians.
Agree0
Disagree0
Whether the site is 44 acres or 60 acres that is still a heck of a size for a maintenance depot!
I agree St Christopher, it is a possibility for Saints that has been reported, and may or may not happen.
Are we not posting on a "rumour" site?

I just read an article in the daily record, Neil Lennon says that we are back in talks with wanyama and that a deal maybe done by Tuesday if not he will play in there next friendly. Here's hoping we can finally put this one to bed and move on. COYR
Believable12
Unbelievable6
Its true. well done.
this is the article
"CELTIC boss Neil Lennon has revealed Victor Wanyama’s £12million move to Southampton is back on.
The Parkhead club agreed a fee with the Premiership side last week but contract talks broke down over the Kenyan’s terms and his agent’s fee. But Lennon believes Wanyama could yet be on his way to St Mary’s in a deal that would eclipse the Scottish transfer record for a sale.
The Hoops gaffer, who spoke with the 22-year-old on Friday at their German training base, insists Celtic are back in contact with Southampton.
After the 2-1 friendly defeat to CFR Cluj last night, Lennon said: “I had a chat with Victor and he’s a wee bit confused but what we gather is that Southampton have re-ignited their interest.
“They’ve shown an interest again and the bid is there. It’s all about the negotiations between Saints and the agent now. I’d imagine that might get the ball rolling again.
“I’ve only seen Victor for a couple of days but he trained with the rest of the squad who didn’t play against Cluj. If nothing materialises, he’ll play some of the game on Tuesday against Greuther Furth. ”

Hmm I see the word agent mentioned there. I wonder if its a new one or whether the rumours of his sacking were greatly exaggerated

If its not announced by Tuesday, then move on. Please! The more this drags the less appealing we look to potential signings. I am a bit surprised at how public this has all become. It makes you wonder.

You're going to get that with becoming a bigger team, transfers are more public, more players are linked and they seem like they take longer to happen. Just get used to it and stop moaning, zjeez it's almost like you don't want the club to grow.

What does everyone think about Billy Sharp, rumours are that he's leaving, but what do we reckon, as Jay Rod has been played LW or just behind Ricky, could we not use him as a super sub? I think he'd get a fair few goals with his finishing skills, I think Poch should give him a chance, unless we get Damio which would be incredible, but I still can't see it happening to be honest, give Sharp a go!
Believable8
Unbelievable13
So you want to go from damiao to sharp, Yeah ok then mate as good as sharp was for us the second half of the season in the championship we are looking at a higher caliber of player now days. Time to move on.
Agree10
Disagree4
I am not or you the manager or chairman but I think Billy has been treated pretty miserably here. We took ages to persuade him to come down south due to his misses etc. He got the job done with really important goals in the Championship, got them when Rickie had dried up. Why not give him a chance in the Premier League, he reminds me of the great Steve Moran popping up to nip in and score. I would keep him but what do I know, in this league you get very few chances I think he would take them. Love Adam but if I had a choice Billy can score, Adam can't so to me keep him as great late substitute. I rate what's going on at our great club but wish sometimes they would listen to the fans. Anyway good luck Billy if you are off, thanks for what you did.

Lallana had a stop start season he will be refreshed after a decent preseason. Billy sharp is a hero he got us over the line he's a champ player at best. Now poch go get leandro!
Agree7
Disagree3
Sharp is a good player, a smashing bloke and helped Saints get to where they are. But, is a top 6 EPL player-no he isn't, and if that is Saints target they do need players who are of that category and can then develop further to be able to hold their own in Europe.
No help to him to keep him at Saints and find he is not playing.
Saint Martin
Agree7

I think a lot of Billy Sharpe but having seen him in preseason last year he was not good enough. He can't play the lone striker role at all. Top bloke but not for us.
Jannersaint
Agree6
Disagree4
Jannersaint did you watch any preseaon games last season? Sharp was out top scorer! so how did he have a poor preseason?
Agree8
Disagree5
Why would you play him as alone striker? He would be there to pick up the pieces and find the net. He may not be good enough but he would be great cover from the bench. He might given a chance prove us all wrong. Everybody said Rickie probably wouldn't be good enough at PL level. Point taken?
Agree3
Disagree3
Not many were any good in pre-season last year I saw them as well. Even the great Morgan looked iffy so never look at pre-season for form etc. it is usually a fitness thing and trying new strategies. Look Billy may or may not be up to it but he looked like he could sniff out a few several times when played especially with top players like Gaston putting him through.
Agree4
Disagree1
I'm all for giving Billy a shot!

Am I wrong in thinking Damio only scored 7 goals last season? I still think he has huge potential but I would have given sharp till xmas to try and prove himself. Would rather lose Mayuka and have a forward line of Lambert, Damio, Rodriguez, Sharp and Lee to call upon. I think their would be goals from all of those whether from the start or from the bench.
Agree2
Disagree2
You guys realise it was his choice to leave right? He and his girlfriend wanted to move up north to be closer to their families after the death of their son. Nothing to do with him not being good enough or left out or w/e
Agree5
Disagree2
I did watch preseason games (several). Sharpe was top scorer by virtue of the amount of game time he had and he played the lone striker role. I think he got so much playing time to see if it could work; it didt. Against arsenal when Jrod played there he was different class. Billy is a poacher. A very good one. I think he is lower half prem quality. He doesn't fit in with our playing style. Good luck to him.

Matt Targett is likely to be better than Fox. Hard to me sure because he is untested but he's highly rated by staff and is likely to be included in the first team with Callum Chambers who can also play RB.
I'd rather we covered the first choice Shaw and Clyne with kids than someone like Fox on bigger wages.

I know, I know going to get slaughtered but just listen for a sec.
I agree that Fox has his faults but maybe, just maybe, MP may get better out of him. I remember what Brian Clough did to a pretty ordinary bunch at Forest. Fox has got probably the best crossing foot in the club from the left so if his tracking back problems can be sorted who knows. I think his weakness was shown up more by our inability to cover defensively the left hand side in defence. Hopefully our new signings can deal with this. Fox is not the best but he certainly ain't the worst. At least he is cover for Luke and anybody else we brought in may not be much better and also wouldn't be happy to sit on the bench. I might be wrong about this but let's see.

I have been to all the home games and a few away and I know enough to see his distribution is awful. Simply the single worst player that has cost Southampton more points than any other I have ever seen. He's never had a game for us where if hasn't made huge mistakes and only a few times has he not cost us a goal in tough games. Diabolical, just like your typing
