Saints to hold talks with Forster after Celtic accept 10 million bid.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Hope this is true. With our goalkeeping coach he could become a top man!

{Ed007's Note - It's true.}

Fantastic news. I would much rather forster than Marshall! Think I might be the only one out there that thinks that but heyho!

Apparently travelling down over weekend to sort terms. very happy with this. We needed competition for the no1 spot. Mind you at 10mill I can't see him sat on tbe bench. Les has been busy this week. Now seal Rojo, Gardos and a striker and we look stronger than last srason imo.

Agree10 Disagree1

Ridiculous fee not better than what we already have! Complete waste of money, surely we need outfield players as a priority?

Agree9 Disagree13

Can't get my head round this Forster thing. It seems that Boruc will be leaving so why are we paying a massive amount of money for a keeper when we have one that is already better than him. Just can't understand it when we have so many other positions that need attention. Very odd.

Agree6 Disagree10

In answer to gtsaint for that sort of money he should already be a very, very top man.

Agree4 Disagree2

Maybe slightly over priced, but a real statement from the board that they are prepared to splash the cash.

Hopefully this will quieten the worriers and the two cbs come in. Maybe this will convince spider to stop moping around

Agree6 Disagree1

Thanks for letting us know Ed007, and hey not all bad news up there in Scotland after all, reinstated into the next stage of the Champions League and a fairly large fee to build a stronger side.

Agree7 Disagree1

{Ed007's Note - I'm just praying that we don't play as bad as we did against Legia. The problem is our board and CEO aren't reinvesting in the team, we made a £21 million profit last year and and we're screaming out for a couple of quality additions. We do very well out of buying young players, improving them and selling them on at a good profit but sometimes you just need to pay the going price for proven quality rather than raw talent to help the team improve, we had Alfred Finnbogason lined up last summer, we lost Gary Hooper, Wanyama and Kelvin Wilson for circa £20 million, but the board baulked at the £4.5 million price tag, a couple of seasons playing well in the CL for us and he would have easily been worth £10 - 15m going by the way we are pricing (and getting paid it) for our players.
Sorry, I'm rabitting on here and probably boring you to death lol Enjoy your season, Phil.}

I agree with these comments, I prefer Forster to Marshall because Forster is younger, has shined in the champions league and is English too

Agree7 Disagree3

Good signing. Cheers Celtic. I really can't see the problem in signing FF. We only have one top keeper. Koeman wants two good players in every position. He has actually said those words. Cheer up. There's more to come #Warsawwererobbed!

Agree7 Disagree3

Don't apologise for the information Ed007, interesting to hear how Celtic is being run at the moment. Do you think the lack of competition from Rangers is responsible for the board not being too bothered about the players in the team as they see the SPL as won before it even starts?

Good luck for the season and champions league and fingers crossed at some point your board starts to get the message soon and does start to add quality as well as profitability.

Agree3 Disagree1

No way is Boruc better than Forster, on his day Boruc is unbeatable but he's as clumsy as he is brilliant.
They're about the same ability wise, Forster's just more consistent and less likely to do something silly, plus he'll improve with playing 38 higher level games a season rather than 10 with celtic

Agree7 Disagree4

09 Aug 2014 08:49:23
Forster is a good signing. Young, English, and with quality coaching could improve. Boruc last year looked like he didn't really give a crap. I love the guy, and I feel forster waiting in the wings could really get the best out of him. Boruc will have to fight to keep the no1 spot, which will show us a side to him we haven't seen.

Agree4 Disagree2

Forster is a quality signing, and anyone saying otherwise doesn't know a thing about football.

Firstly, Boruc is grossly unreliable. At his peak, he is an excellent keeper with a good command of his area. However, his personality makes him prone to frequent brain fades - two examples being the water bottle incident against Spurs two years ago, and 'that' Cruyff turn against Arsenal last season. His judgement isn't always the best either. gust of wind aside, you shouldn't be getting beaten by a Asmir Begovic goalkick from the opposing 18 yard box.

Secondly, Forster is a quality keeper. Just because the SPL isn't a 'high' quality league doesn't mean quality players don't play in it. He's England's 2nd/3rd choice ahead of Ruddy and a host of others. He's young as well so he represents a good investment for the future.

Thirdly, Boruc is 31 or thereabouts and I can't see him lasting into his late thirties/early forties like Schwarzer. Further, we have no quality back up so a GK purchase is essential.

Koeman and Fonte press conference at 3pm confirmed Fonte has signed 3 year extension and will be team captain this year, with Kelvin Davis remaining club captain.

Schneiderlin has been confirmed as making things "difficult", but Koeman is reiterating that he is staying. Schneiderlin will not be in the squad for Bayer Leverkusen game though as he is "not right not just physically but mentally".

Koeman wishes to have further signings for encouraging competition. Rojo was mentioned, as well as a player from Steaua Bucharest which I sadly missed. Koeman is otherwise being cagey about who he wants and how many more signings he wants to make.

Believable7 Unbelievable1

08 Aug 2014 15:50:30
Just seen the Steaua player is Florin Gardoș. If he is going for €6m that is not bad. Went to Steaua for about £132k in 2010 and has 2 years left on his current contract. Only thing is he is/was recovering from a muscular injury, so we shall see.

Agree5 Disagree0

Schneiderlin's off. Everyone knows it. Taider was brought in as his potential replacement.

Don't know why Saints are persisting with this farcical posturing - he's burned all his bridges. The Lallana/Lovren method to forcing a transfer. It worked for them and it'll work for him too. Saints can't have one of their highest earners and best players effectively on strike.

They need to get the best price possible for him and move on. Who cares if it makes Ralph Krueger look like a clown - since when has that bothered him?

Terrible way for Schneiderlin to end his association with Saints, but the club is more important than one self important, unprofessional, disrespectful individual.

Agree11 Disagree9

08 Aug 2014 16:30:32
Florin Gardos is the player looks decent and for a reported 4.5 mill. according to Romanian press already has signed - He broke a players leg on European debut - Watch out Lovren and Lallana!

Agree6 Disagree1

He will remain cagey. We still need a Major signing for credibility purposes.

Anyone any news about Forster?

We have?!?! Well that one snuck in quietly. Any of my far more learned fellow posters able to share knowledge?

Agree4 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 16:58:59
Just read about what rons saying with regards to spider. That says to me he is incredibly frustrated with the player who is, in effect having a tantrum.

Spider is an excellent player and we are where we are partly because of him.
If he is that determined to cause problems then he has no place with us. A player who doesn't not want to play will never give his all to the team. Get rid of the child and bring in someone who wants to be here.

Agree5 Disagree5

That question was asked very quietly, I replayed that several times. I think he was talking about Florin Gardos (CB for Steaua București) but I can't be sure. Still, quite a reassuring press conference, would have been happier if they'd announced Cork with a new contract as well but can't have it all my way.

Agree5 Disagree0

Although it would be another great player leaving, I have to say that I tend to agree that he is better off elsewhere if his heart isn't at Saints. Having said that, we should insist on a huge transfer fee which can be reinvested in the squad as Koeman sees fit. IF Schneiderlin is sold.

Agree5 Disagree2

I honestly believe Schneiderlin will stay. The Club has seriously put itself out on a limb in explicitly stating that he will stay. on several occasions. Far more unequivocal than Reed's vague April press conference where he said bids "will probably be met with a no" and Krueger's end of season interview where he said "transactions will happen".

Agree4 Disagree5

08 Aug 2014 18:18:32
I know the board are trying to save face by saying Schneiderlin is not for sale but why flog a dead horse. Get the money from his sale to whoever and move on. You know my feelings on getting Vlaar, we need to get some proper experience at the back. Talk of this Romanian coming in but can't see that being the answer. People say Vlaar is too old at 29 which I think is crazy, he is at his prime. Look at John Terry etc. if you stay fit and Vlaar is, he could give us 3 - 4 years of top quality stability at the heart of our defence.

Really like Morgan and what he has done at Saints. BUT he has done pretty well out of Saints as well, and his situation is VERY different to players like Shaw where we were paid our valuation for the player. Morgan seems to think Saints should accept less than 50% of their valuation to assist him, and his agent, to cash in, and also leave little time to find a proper replacement.
He has been told what the situation is. If he refuses to accept it then let him spend a season on the side-lines and not receiving any income other than his basic ie. no winning bonuses etc., and of course any reduction in his basic for failing to train etc.

The club has to be firm on this otherwise it will be anarchy and any player offered more money will seek to ignore their contract.

Agree8 Disagree0

Qwertyell is quite obviously spiders agent, he will do as he's told he will be made an example of to the younger players and when he gets left out of the next france squad he will start playing for his shirt like a man

Agree6 Disagree4

Bang on saint martin. we look like a push over and if we need to make an example of someone to let players know a contract is just that then so be.

Agree7 Disagree0

Prehaps we should take Daniel Agger off liverpool as he can't wait to leave! :P

Agree4 Disagree1

If as it looks SFC want to make use of spider as an example to anyone else doing a Lallana/Lovren hissy fit, I suggest he be loaded out to Bristol City or the like. he'll never play for France again then!

Agree4 Disagree1

08 Aug 2014 20:57:25
Schneiderlin is on strike. bloody disgusting behaviour from a professional who's very well paid. you sir are a complete joke. Sell him, not fit to wear the shirt imo

Agree5 Disagree1

What's the point keeping someone against their will? That's what our Ice Hockey Coach Chairman said and if Spuds offered £20m does a Saint Martin think we're going to get £40m for Spider?

Agree3 Disagree0

Been saying for weeks that we have to take a very hard line with this young man. He is sulking, and we cannot give in to this behaviour. Come on Saints be strong. I thought Spider was better than this!

Agree5 Disagree0

This is it though. spuds offered 10. only real reason why he hasn't been sold.

Agree3 Disagree0

We shouldn't have put up with any of this behaviour. cortese wouldn't have nor would i.

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Aug 2014 22:58:36
The board don't seem to be able to win with some people. The number of calls for them to stop selling at all costs seems to have turned to why are they keeping someone who doesn't want to stay. I'd take the money, but then KL would be accused of stuffing her mattress.
I think they are proving that they do want to improve the squad but that doesn't mean they have to spend every penny they've brought in.

Agree6 Disagree1

This is absolutely the greatest news for the future of our club. At some point, we have to be strong enough to say NO in order to progress. If that time has come now, the congratulations to all Saints fans.

Morgan will play. Once the deadline passes, he will realize his only way to stay in the French national side is to do well on the pitch for Southampton. Problem solved.

Agree5 Disagree0

I'm glad we are showing some backbone not selling anymore players, Shneiderlin will have to deal with it, we're not selling him for the £10m Spurs bid, if they bid £20m then fair enough, if we were to get in Classie to replace him I wouldn't be too dissapointed, at least we'd know everyone at the club wants to be there, but I hope he changes his mind as he's one of the last of our players who have made the journey from league 1

Agree2 Disagree1

Whatever happens with Morgan Schneiderlin, we fans need to remember this is Ronald Koeman's Saints. Some players will leave. He wants to build his team. Every manager does. He has already stated there will be more new signings. Forster and the lad from Steau Bucharest look like at least putting pressure on the first team's current incumbents and they are negotiating for a World Cup finalist

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2014 09:09:14
Saint Dez- my understanding is that Saints valuation for Morgan is around £27m and Spuds have offered around £10m. Now, these figures may not be totally accurate but I believe are not too far out. Do we really want to be seen not only as a selling club but even worse, as one who gives away their best players?
Whilst this is part of the issue, the biggest factor IMO is that at some point the club had to say there is a timescale beyond which it will not sell core players. If not, late sales of players without adequate time to replace them could seriously erode RKs ability to keep the club going forward. Spuds and Morgan have had plenty of time to negotiate with Saints and I have no sympathy for the fact they haven't utilised it and Saints have said-"no more".

Agree2 Disagree0

Agree Armstrong. You know I would love to have been a fly on the wall when cortese announced his resignation to the squad and MoPo.

We would have lost some players I am sure to 'bigger' but apart from the alleged non payment of bonuses to the players (wonder if it was ever agreed with owner)? there is a feeling here of someone who has put the boot in with players because they did not get their way with the club.

Agree2 Disagree3

Just read we have signed Florin Gardos. Centre back from Steua Bucharest. Don't know anything about him. Thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Interest was confirmed by RK in his press conference.

Agree4 Disagree0

25, CB right footed, tall 194cm about same level as yoshida 😞

Agree1 Disagree2

Was once banned for 10 matches for breaking another players leg, wonder if we'll let him loose on morgan?

Agree3 Disagree1

Did you read this on SaintsWeb or elsewhere? He's solid - would be a better third choice than either Yoshida or Hooiveld, and Stephens is still too young. So far I'm yet to find a reliable source on this though. Regardless, we still need a new first choice CB to replace Lovren.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 17:31:12
He looks strong on youtube. Certainly fearless and even has a few goals. Has real potential

Agree1 Disagree0

He looks solid, can bring the ball forward, the highlights on him I watched was of him playing in the champions league and looked solid against some good teams like Chelsea and Napoli, he looks like a real coup, didn't see that one coming! And by the sound of things neither did the press

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 19:11:03
Ronald Koeman confirmed in his press conference that there was interest in the player but suggested a completed deal was far from the truth.

Agree1 Disagree0

Wish people would stop using the word coup. especially when its some lad from steau bucharest.

Agree3 Disagree0

Boruc is by far a better keeper than forster, yes we need a better no2 to boruc but to spend 10 m when when our priority is a cb, part of that 10m could have been spent on upping the bid for rogo-boruc instils confidence in the defence forster lacks this at the moment, please keep boruc as no1 or I fear for us this season!

Agree1 Disagree2

08 Aug 2014 10:57:33
Les Reed told Jack Cork he is not part of the 'Core' plans for the club going forward and that he would not be offered a new contract this year.

Very reliable source.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

I doubt that it he was one of our best players last year, if that's true I'll be gutted and shocked

Agree8 Disagree2

I hope this isent true as cork is a fantastic player and would be a shame to let him go

Agree10 Disagree0

If true would be the clubs biggest mistake by far this season!!!

Agree10 Disagree0

If true an absolute f-up on the board's behalf. He is such an underrated player. Very effective in midfield I hope they see sense and offer him an extended contract

Agree8 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 12:57:37
Obviously not true, Koeman said he'd have input so its not just Les Reeds decision.

Agree5 Disagree2

If Spider is off any time in the next year then Corky is essential to our long term plans. Would rather let Spider go now if it meant tying him to a long contract and givin him the regular game time he craves.

Agree5 Disagree1

08 Aug 2014 13:27:04
Wouldn't it be RK's decision and for him to tell him, not LR?

Agree5 Disagree1

Corky was better than Shneiderlin IMO last year, this is reflected by him getting 3rd place in players player this season, after Lallana and J Rod, also is one of my favourite players at the club and is very underated, this sale would make me more annoyed than all the others, as he doesn't want to leave and we would be choosing to sell him, MUST STAY

Agree8 Disagree2

Even IF that was true and he wasn't part of the plan, surely it'd make sense to offer him a contract so we could make some money on him instead of losing him on a free?

Agree2 Disagree0

Jack Cork is a fantastic hard working player, who always gives 110% and clearly in my opinion worth a new contract, and if signed, would be highly unlikely to p*** off a year into it unlike other former players.

Agree7 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 16:34:59
Fonte gets his new contract extension, Cork isn't even offered one.
That's a fact!
. and Spider isn't in the right frame of mind to play for Saints.
What a bloody mess.

Agree4 Disagree4

Fonte confirmed it has taken 6 months to negotiate and sign his contract - could the same not be for Cork?!

Agree1 Disagree1

Keep Jack Cork. He is a reliable honest diamond!Spider is such a child, I don't have the answer to his situation, except to say, a contract is a contract, and a stand has to be made against this sort of behaviour.

Agree7 Disagree0

I smell buuuullllllssssshhhhit

Agree3 Disagree1

And the logic why you think this is bull is?

Agree0 Disagree1

Hi saint dez, did les tell jack what the 'core plan ' was and why he did not fit into it?

can see it now, Les to jack 'sorry son you do not fit into the core plan even though you were one of best players last season'

not saying he will not go, because others will have him as he is a very good player but I smell what s1 can smell I am afraid and he is right it is not a 'core plan'

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 10:27:46
An increased if for rojo being prepared.

A lot of papers saying he is being brought in as a lb, but surely with Bertrand and targett on the books he will be coming as a cb?

Believable8 Unbelievable1

His versatility is a big asset, but I think he'll be used as CB, the press talk him up more as a LB because he impressed so much there at the world cup, but last season he played regularly at CB for Sporting CP. So I think he'll be used at CB

Agree4 Disagree1

Does not matter either way, Bertrand is better further up the pitch and was pushed back into the left back position as chelski because of competition for places.

Good to have players that can play multiple roles!

All that matters is that we sign Rojo

Agree6 Disagree1

Now we are shafted! Celtic have been reinstated into the Champions League as Legia Warsaw have been found to field an ineligible player!

I guess we won't be getting Forster or Van dijk any time soon!

Believable6 Unbelievable3

If both players want to move to St Marys I would have thought this would make no difference.

Celtic are going nowhere CL or not.

Too good an opportunity for the pair to progress

Agree3 Disagree2

Boruc is more than capable and is Forster that good anyway. we should be targeting Marshall or Butland TBH

Agree4 Disagree6

If players want to go it won't make that much of a difference

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2014 11:53:51
Transfers aside, to reinstate a team that lost 6-1 on the basis of the winning team fielding an ineligible player for 3 mins in the second leg has to be one of the most absurd footballing decisions of all time!

Agree8 Disagree2

What goes around comes around to many saints fans on this forum were overly happy at celtic's exit just so we could get are hands on there best players! just as Liverpool done to us!
And with ed007 being a Celtic supported you would think saints fans would have been a bit more sympathetic?
Good luck Ed Hope Celtic go far in the competition!
As for the Southampton fans that were gleefully happy that celtic had gone out of the competition you got what you deserved!!!

Anyone else heard about Southampton looking at a £4m plus Mayuka bid for Nathan Redmond just heard it from a strong reliable source don't know what to make of it

Believable5 Unbelievable2

I hope so, I haven't seen Mayuka do anything to convince me he's any good, Redmond has

Agree6 Disagree1

Agree, Mayuka has potential, although I don't see him cutting it in the EPL.
If Mayuka does go we'll need at least 2 possibly 3 forwards to come in.

Agree5 Disagree1

No idea if it's true, but sounds a good deal to me. Mayuka's garbage. Anything that gets him off the books and someone half decent in return is positive outcome.

Redmond's very handy.
