Damiao is apparently all but a Napoli player. But they are trying to buy every striker and his wife at the moment.
Believable1
Unbelievable9
You have no source on this do you? Just like the papers do. They have just decided Napoli need to replace Cavani and randomly connected two currently unrelated dots. Could happen potentially but neither Napoli or Damiao/his agent/Internacional have said anything to suggest Napoli have a shot.
Agree8
Disagree2
Agree with the above post. Reports linking him to Napoli are coming from Italy, and are entirely baseless.
One fact we know is that Saints have approached Internacional, and Damiao's agent. Another fact we know, is that Damiao's agent stated "one club" are interested in him. It logically follows that the club in question is Southampton.
The connection being made with Napoli is entirely fabricated, and based on little more than the potential that Cavani will get sold.
Agree5
Disagree0
My "sources" are quite a few news feeds and a radio interview, which is more than a lot the posts on this site. let's be honest, the club is tighter than a ducks arse about transfer info, so 75% of all posts are hearsay.

I did say he wouldn't go now look even the president of the club damaio plays for says no bid has been recieved from napoli
Agree1

Seem like Napoli are after everyone Jackson Martinez, erik lemela, edin dzeko, leandro damiao, even if they sell cavani they won't be able to buy that lot. so there's still hope for saints fans coyr pull ya finger out and get this boy signed.
Agree7

Personally I don't think Damiao will be going anywhere. again.

They have had no contact apparently, according to sky

Saints in for Jose Enrique, various sites reporting!
Believable2
Unbelievable9
Bulls***. We wouldn't be going to pay that kind of money to replace fullbacks who don't need replacing. They just need backing up with simple, cheaper options.
Agree4
Disagree0
That was reported ages ago, I didn't believe it then either, is he really worth the wages?. Does he bring more to the club than we already have.?.
Another point. I'm getting fed up again of all the speculation on what players are going to be signed. But again I am sure we will be dissspointed again as we usually are, I do hope I'm wrong
Agree7

Get him sell fox
Saint Number 34

Absolute rubbish. This is a two month old rumour. As the above post states, we need genuine cover for Shaw and Clyne, not someone to replace them. Doesn't make a lot of sense to pay a backup player the wage that Enrique would be demanding. I'm sure this has occurred to Cortese as well.

One of the reasons that the victor wanyama deal fell through was because of he wanted a 12 million pounds release clause in his contract if a "bigger" team came in for him in the future.

Who said deal has fallen through

No it wasn't

Where did you get this info? Ha ha if we paid 12 mill for him do you really think we would let him go for that amount?
Agree4
Disagree5
I think the OP is skating on thin ice!
Saint Martin
Agree3
Disagree0
Obviously not. Why would he offer such ridiculous terms?
Maybe £20m buyout clause at the VERY least. And even then I'd doubt it. You want to at least double your money if you put a release clause in. It's usually at an amount that is way over his current price, not bang on the same.
Agree4
Disagree3
None of the top 6 EPL would pay out 12 mill for an SPL player. They wouldn't even pay that for a Championship player which is where Celtic would be stuck in if they played in England. Victor would use Saints as a stepping stone so yes there would be release clause put in by his agents to get a bumper pay day.
Agree6
Disagree1
A release clause may be in the contract but there is no chance any club would accept having a release clause at the value they paid for the player. You always aim to at least turn a profit.
Agree4
Disagree0
This must be a skate that made up this rumour. Only a skate could be stupid enough to spread a rumour about a fake release clause which is the same as the transfer fee for the player. More to the point, only a skate would be stupid enought to believe it.
Agree5
Disagree4
Only a stain would believe your actually going to sign anyone, left behind every one else as usual lol
Agree0
Disagree5
Celtic would be stuck in the championship if they played in England. Your on glue mate how many championship teams beat Barca and get to the last 16 of the champions league.?
Agree3
Disagree3
Shall we see how Wigan do next season? If they get to the last 16 that'll really dent Celtic's claims about how much of an achievement last 16 is.
Agree1
Disagree2
Interesting to see we have a post saying Saints will sign no one!
But then, we know there are certain parts of the country where education is lacking and "persons" can't read-otherwise they would realise Saints have ALREADY made a signing, who is already training with the club!
No knowledge, but determined to show it-and that is still seen as clever in their neck of the woods.

Celtic practically have rest games every week, they have options to rest their best players whenevr they feel and still win 4-0 for a team in prem league to get a champions league spot they have to use all the resourses they have and fight hard every match totally different any player who leaves the prem for SPL is looking for easy football easy life
Agree2
Disagree1
Only a disrespectful Portsmouth fan would call a Southampton fan a stain, time for some moderation ed. No obvious reason why Saints could not make a decent signing or two.
Agree3
Disagree1
Celtic are in the Champ league every year by default. If you swap Celtic with any Championship side or even a team like Leeds I would expect them to go just as far as Celtic every year. It's not rocket surgery.

ed is there any chance of damiao coming to Southampton? can't listen to much to paper talk
it is rarely correct if not is there a forward we are likely to get? and is there anything on banega?
cheers

Damiao no idea about. For Ever Banega
there has been a bid accepted beleived to be 7.5 million area.

David Villa to Athletico for 4.4 million! missed a trick there lol

Surely villa staying in Spain means the people will be back in for damiao?

They've tried the last 3 years to get him, haven't they? Don't think he's interested in them if that's the case
Agree0

To first comment - there is NO WAY Banega bid has been accepted at 7.5mil. Valencia have gone on record wanting £15m. They won't accept half! Around £10m and I'll believe the rumour.
If we got in at £7.5m, Valencia are stupid, as clubs will definitely be prepared to pay more than that.

Jose Fonte is a target for Championship side Watford. The fee is thought to be in the region of £1.4million
Believable4
Unbelievable6
Thought Watford were short on money. Great signing for them if he does go. Would rather us sell Hooiveld though and keep Fonte.
Agree8
Disagree4
Sell them both - neither are good enough to take us to the next level.
Agree7
Disagree6
Hope not. He did well last season.
Agree3

Agree but we need back up if injury of suspension hit and Fonte has a years Prem under his belt
Agree2
Disagree1
Fonte didn't put a foot wrong did he? Or am I missing something?
Just Yoshida stepped up and started doing well, so Fonte slipped to the bench.
He's by no stretch a bad player. Certainly not on the same level as Hooiveld, Fox, Guly et al.
I'd like to keep him as a squad player. Maybe give him some cup games. You need big squads to challenge for Europe/cups so we need to keep him.
Agree1

Keep him and have 3 right footed cb and 2 left I doubt it did you not see the wigan game? i'd say that was doing something wrong

Damiao's agent has NOT spoken with Napoli, but admits Italy would be a good country for a Brazilian. Since he also stated yesterday that there was genuine interest from one club, and since we also know that Southampton has admitted such interest, we can have greater confidence that Southampton is in the very real process of securing Damiao's signature.
We can't be sure about the outcome, however.
Believable9
Unbelievable4
It's such a new arena for us isn't it. That we are trying to buy known good players that are wanted by bigger teams. This having to wait and hope they buy into our future is so alien to us.
Hope we don't have to wait long before we find out what's happening either way. I have no hair left to pull.

Im not saying its going to happen as i'm not getting dragged into the debate. But this morning I have heard that saints have been in talks with villarreal about a possible loan signing of Nigerian international striker Ikechukwu uche.
MP must know what the player is capable off after playing for recrectivo, real zaragoza and getafe in the spanish league
Believable1
Unbelievable9
If there is any truth in this rumour, I would guess that NC would only go for a loan agreement if a pre-arranged signing figure was established (or first refusal to sign permantently if things go well). Like we did with Guly.
(and wait for it. here come the Guly haters!)

Defensive Midfielder?
Agree3

He's not a defensive midfielder! Why would we be after wanyama aswell?
Agree7

He's not a DM, he plays the same sort of role davies does
Agree3

He is an AM who will play infront of our holding Midfielders. so we can buy both him & Wanyama
Agree4

Defensive midfielder? £7.5m? Behave.
Agree2

This will be awesome,. Especially if we also sign a top striker who will score 15-20 goals (I hope). This will spark further creativity into what is already a very forward thinking midfield. With shaw and clyne getting up the flanks as well. Bloody hell, this season is going very well in my mind. Anyway enough day dreaming and back to work
