Southampton have today been linked with a move for Japanese international striker Tadanari Lee.

It has been reported that Saints are close to agreeing a deal for the Sanfrecce Hiroshima forward.

The 26-year-old Japanese international is said to have been the subject of a bid from the Championship leaders and is reportedly travelling to England for talks.

Lee, who would require a work permit to play for Saints, scored 15 goals in 32 appearances for J League division one side Hiroshima during the 2011 season.

Born in Tokyo to Korean parents, he has been capped ten times for Japan - who are 19th in the latest FIFA world rankings - scoring twice.

One of the goals was an extra time winner in January’s Asian Cup final, against Australia.

Lee came off the bench to volley in the only goal of the game at the Khalifa International Stadium, in Doha, earning Japan their fourth Asian Cup title.

Saints to sign Billy Sharp early in transfer window as negotiations were tied up just before Christmas, only a medical is now required.

Saints are also going to sign Ryo Miyaichi on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season

I will personally be surprised if he is not in the Southampton team at the end of January.

We are also very keen on Matt Phillips at Blackpool to provide cover and pace down the flanks. Blackpool want Puncheon and it is understood that we'll try and force them to come down on any valuations in Phillips.

After a poor few games it has been made clear that Saints need to bring in a couple of players to improve a thin squad. They have made it clear that a striker and a wide midfielder are top priorities. Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard, Wilfried Zaha Crystal Palace, Billy Sharp Doncaster & Marvin Sordell Watford are top targets.

Zaha is reported to be signing a new long term contract with Palace so that may be a long shot however the others seem like good business at the right price. Maynard has been linked with premiership clubs as well after his contract run out in the summer however Saints believe that they can persuade him to join there push for the Premiership themselves.

There are some classy players that may come available, but if we are to stay realistic and talk about who we definately can get, I would love us to sign Nicky Maynard from Bristol City (contract up end of season) hopefully for no more than £4m. He will give us pace and trickery up front and he is a proven goal scorer. Also Jacob Butterfield from Barnsley (also out of contact end of season) hopefully for no more than £2m. He is very young but has played very well for Barnsley and has even been made captain. He will bring the goals from midfield that we have been missing.
