TV reporting Liverpool want to sign Adz before world cup.
Reckon they should stop talking to the press and make a bid - then we can tell them where to stick it.

Even if we did want to sell, which we don't, we would surely want to sell after the World Cup by which time his stock would have risen. No doubt this is the reason why, if true, Liverpool want to buy him beforehand.

Forgot to log in.

Liverpool have been talking to Southampton for some time about AL. Southampton are being slightly disingenuous when they say they haven't received a bid. What they really mean is that the 2 clubs haven't agreed a fee.

Any sale will be after the world cup if at all. Seling before would be utter madness in the style of Rupert Lowe!

4.) 09 May 2014
Liverpool been talking to Saints for a while. was that statement by Les Reed last week a lie then about not being contacted by any club for any player.

5.) 09 May 2014
Quite possibly. Statements from football clubs aren't delivered under oath. It happens time and time again at every club. Season ticket sales will be another factor influencing what a club does and what they say.

Saintmike: what you say is logical but there is no guarantee that his value will go up after the World Cup. Nowadays most transfers depend on what the player wants, not the club. If a player wants to leave, very few clubs will keep an unhappy player. Especially one on PL wages. I suspect that AL might be sold in the next week or so, from what I have heard from Northern based people. Sadly, this will be met by howls of outrage and denial from many on here. But there are so many other factors involved, it's possibly only a 60/40 call. One of those factors is the player himself not wanting to consider his future, which might be at Saints anyway, until after the W Cup

My understanding of the situation is that Saints want to keep their players. However, Saints have created a group of players that have become more ambitious.

So, Saints are at a cross-roads. The squad has been assembled under Cortese, under the premise that Saints was building a squad over a period of a few years that could qualify for the Champions league.

Everyone, from the manager down is wondering whether that ambition is still there. The players themselves will be looking to see what quality of player is being brought in before they commit their future to Saints.

The message seems to be from Kruger and Reed, that the vision of challenging for European football is still intact, and if this is the case, then Lallana, Shaw, etc will stay.

If it is no longer the case, then expect possible departures of MoPo, along with one or two big departures.

Some people describe me as a happy-clapper, since I believe in the club. Since Saint Marcus (RIP) bought the club, they have said what they were going to do, then quietly got on and done it. Under that kind of guardianship, I can't do anything but believe we will retain our squad, and build for the future.

Further more to my post, one thing has just come to me regarding the Lallana off before the world cup; after the world cup argument - Saints would be (God forbid that he should leave) selling from a position of strength. The lad is contracted to Saints, and could potentially say to Ads, 'No son, you aren't going anywhere', or even, do a Fergie, and say, 'Ok, you can leave next season'.

Saints Don't want to sell. From a commercial point of view, it would be a disaster to loose their Captain, and an England poster-boy.

Ok, so let's say that it does happen, and we sell Lallana. Why in hells name would a sale be rushed through? Sounds to me like there will be a bidding war, and therefore a prolonged transfer. Personal contracts wouldn't be easy to agree either, since Ads will be away most of the summer.

With all that said and done, I still don't think he'll be going anywhere!

What I don't understand is why are they talking about £20m for adz when its £30m for shaw. Now I know shaw is younger etc but adz would be a far bigger loss and I would expect a higher price for him

10.) 09 May 2014
Quite frankly the sort of figures they are talking for our players are insulting to our club. We would need a lot more for these players to replace them and they are worth a lot more at the same time. The papers still appear to believe Southampton is run by morons.

11.) 10 May 2014
I m sure most papers and arm chair fans think we are still run by rupert lowe! i'm sure katherina will carry on with her dads pledge and take us all the way to europe. The south is the wealthy end of the country this is where its happening! adam is mr sfc he s on the wind up over lfc to take pressure of young luke this is the type of things captains and mates do, I bet the boys at sfc are rolled up! as I am!

MP has said that he is waiting to hear what the next project is at SFC as we are now coming to the end of the current 5 year plan which has been extremely successful. Is the current boards first major statement if Intent going to be to take the club backwards and sell the likes of AL which will may mean loosing the manager as well?

I think we can justify the sale of Shaw for the money being reported as this will effectively eradicate any outstanding debt from previous transfers and allow us to push forward with some quality additions. I do not feel that loosing AL who is such a key member of the squad and club as a whole can be as easily replaced as the void left will be far greater. The chances of having someone coming in and hitting the ground running in such a capacity are slim. These things take time and we surely want to add depth and not just replace bodies.

So in short, do the new board take decisions that will risk the clubs future or do they aim to progress? They will be judged on their actions this summer.
