I hear we are going back for a revised bid for Andros Townsend! as much as I would like us to sign him there is no way the spuds will deal with us unless we do a deal with spider and I don't want us to give the spuds any player let alone spider man.

Also I hear we are looking to sign Alvaro Gonzalez. Thoughts?

Stay away from Spuds but go for Gonzalez!

Seen this also, townsend on form is good, quick and tricky but not really a team player. Plus spurs will not sell to us so who cares. Alvaro gonzales would be ok, his age and the fact he has spent most of his career in italy worries me though.

Gonzales would be a good signing In my opinion, especially with the price that's being talked about. With him In we'll have a strike force of Tadic, Pelle, Long, Gonzales and Jay Rod (when he's fit). Much stronger than last season I believe.

I'd take Townsend, only worry is that with us standing firm on Morgan and Jay, they'd want one of them included in a deal. Rather look elsewhere - Redmond for example

5.) 20 Aug 2014
The reason spurs would sell to anyone let alone us is because poch is looking to lower the squad size to under 25 and are looking to sell any players who are not regulars, such as townsend, naughton, chadli etc.

6.) 20 Aug 2014
I'd like to see us go for Zaha

For me Alvaro seems a little over priced for what will be a 30 year old next month. I know we have money but don't really need to splash the cash, I would go with Scott Sinclair. cheaper, younger and does score goals. He is quick and would be motivated. just my thoughts

Gonzalez isn't the winger Saints are in need of. He's mostly a right back/defensive right midfielder.

Think James Milner, but less attacking (if that's even possible).

Nothing special in terms of pace or creativity. I find it hard to believe Saints think he's the type of the player the squad is crying out for. As cover for a couple of positions, he'll do a job as a squad player, but the first XI needs a proper wide forward.

Surprised they haven't gone back in for Redmond. Seems available at a reasonable price, has bags of potential, a bit of PL experience, young, English. He's far from the finished article, but that's more Saints' style: buy in a rough diamond and polish them up, a la Rodriguez.

Andros Townsend is a lot better than some here give him credit for being, but I'm not sure he's a good fit - and brokering a deal with Spurs will inevitably end up with Schneiderlin or Rodriguez's name thrown into the mix in some capacity. Best give them a wide berth.

If Saints buy a 30yr old deffensive midfielder we know what dirrection the club is going in.

10.) 20 Aug 2014
Yeah, it would be appalling to sign a 30 year old, such as Schweinsteiger.

One that concedes less goals?

We need an attacking right or left sided player who can pitch in with 8 or so goals a season until Jayrod us fully fit. I really hope the board doesn't start to buy just to keep the fans happy or indeed RoKo happy. Saints are really close to repeating the dizzy heights of last season, 2 sensible signings and we are there.

@Giingersaint:

Alvaro Gonzalez is a holding midfielder I believe - same role as Ward-Prowse. However is more defensive.
If we were to purchase a player from Lazio I would pick either Candreva or Onazi. They're greater game changers.

The Gonzalez rumours are not true just his agent trying to drum up interest
