New Toby update, seems hourly as of late!

His Dad who is his agent, has released some sort of statement it would seem saying there are no concrete agreements with any club as of yet.

In addition Sly Sports are now reporting we have made a bid of €20 million. Could be true, could be totally off the mark.

I don't think we are necessarily trying to get Toby for the £6.8 million we agreed last season, even if Atletico have breached the contract. Instead perhaps we feel we were entitled to negotiate before any other club. Again, with that I could be well of the mark.

Nothing to suggest he won't still end up signing for Spurs in the end either, just seems like it will drag out for a while longer yet.

There's nothing stopping us bidding 30 million and paying it then taking them the legal route to get the majority of it back once he's our player, by the way even if we did spend 30 mill on him and didn't get any of it back it would still be worth ever penny he's as good as any defender in all four top European leagues

{Ed030's Note - I doubt Athleti's lawyers would be stupid enough to let that happen. Also I wouldn't go as far as saying he's on par with the best defenders in Europe, He's good but not that good. }

A few reputable sources are suggesting it's a done deal to Spurs now. But it may not be able to be announced until Atletico and Saints have come to an agreement on compensation. Bizarre situation, especially if we have indeed made a higher bid than Spurs, but they've happily pushed through the transfer for a lower sum. Nevertheless at least we can start to move on from this messy saga, there's plenty of reason to believe we can bring in a player just as capable.

If you watched the new documentary Saints released about our recent signings, it's pretty apparent we will have a shortlist replacements already in mind.

The quote from his dad/agent appears to have been posted by a third party (a journalist, I believe) on twitter. It's not clear if it's genuine or simply made up. Still, I hold out some hope.
