Don't be kidded by the closeness of the result - our lack of quality shone through. We couldn't find a team mate with a 5 yard pass.
Our GKs are woeful - every game they give away a cheap goal - McCarthy what on earth went through your head. Even if the ball found our defender it would put him under immense pressure.
New striker, open goal, same outcome - unbelievable.
There's no leadership on the pitch - no urgency no idea.
Nobody expected a win, but against a second string Liverpool team, we should have given them a bit more of a run for their money.

It is a dilemma - play Bazunu and risk a shot going in that shouldn’t, or play McCarthy knowing he’ll pass it to their striker in his own six yard box.
But I will say we did give them a run for their money. Once again they needed a late goal to beat a not-first choice Saints team having been gifted a goal. We were decent. They still had >£250m on the pitch and brought on another £80m.
However, Armstrong should be scoring, and when it then fell to Scienza who in fairness is a winger, you can see what he was trying to do. He just got too cute with it. And we were rightly punished. We don’t score the goals we should be scoring and that’s been the case since Pelle/Gabbiadini who were proper finishers.
But our three young CBs looked good, Robinson lively, we just have to take our chances. Playing a bit more on the counter seemed to work better. We might be able to do that on Saturday, but still predicting 1-2.

Your assessment is probably fairer than mine. I just get so frustrated with the lack of urgency, the pedestrian way they amble around the pitch - week in week out. All for what? 12 sideways passé and we lose the ball on the half way line.
How much possession do we have in the final third - how many touches in the opponent’s 18 yard box?
Given our frailties at the back we have to be more offensive.
Wasn’t it Mike Channon who used to ask the
Centre halves how many goals he would need to score (back in the day when we would in 4-3 and 3-2)
Oh well, Saturday will be a truer test so long as Boy Still picks his strongest team.
