News now site worrying. Says stating fonte change of agent could see him up wage demands or worse force a leave. Given this and previous names we won't mention, hate to say it but could there be something wrong with our system as this keeps happening.

He's got a contract till 2017 . He'll be nearly 34 then so I'm not sure he will argue too much with an improved contract.
If he does I can't see him going to a better club at that age

On the other hand Jose is hot property at the moment and he may feel this could be his last chance to make big money at this stage of his career . He is an honourable man I believe but unfortunately in this wonderful game of ours big bucks talk.

Hot property to who Chris? Fonte's in the same boat as Shawcross is for Stoke, both are great Premier League centre backs but they wouldn't get starting roles if they moved to a top 6 club, except possibly Liverpool for a season then they'd get shipped out again a la Rickie Lambert.

He might move on at the end of his current contract but it won't be to bigger and better things, it'll either be back to Sporting Lisbon where he started his career or to the MLS where he has said he'd love to play.

Apparently palace are after colocini and if they miss out there will go for Fonte. He has history there. Would they pay him more than we can or offer him a longer contract?

He has just changed agent - so the PR office of the agent releases these rumours to show they mean business - but as others have said aged 34 in 2017 - Fonte will not be the hottest ticket in town - and will probably try and negotiate a 1 year extension and a lift in wages from next season - I would incentivise him to arrange the defence to be as good as last year and hit him with a big bonus of the goals conceded is more or less the same as last year.

Fonte is a good defender but as with everyone else in this club he is not irreplaceable.
Can't honestly see him leaving this season, especially to a lesser club which aren't in Europe like palace.
He will be here until at least next Summer

I didn't say he will leave I'm just making the point that we think he would never leave as he is part of the furniture . He was part of the second meanest defence in th PL last year so I think that makes him a wanted man for teams that are struggling at the back . Everybody has their price you know . He almost certainly will stay but let's not get too complacent.

Fonte is a legend and has stuck with us through good times and bad he's club captain and first name on my team sheet all day long he has the ability to form a solid partnership with anyone and he's too important to us to let him go he will stay with us until he runs out of steam. One of the strongest defenders in the league no doubt

But who is he a wanted man for Chris? Last season Cardiff wanted to buy him from us after they got relegated, this summer the only links have been Liverpool unsuprisingly because they're linked to everything Saints and Palace unsuprisingly because they want an experienced Premier League centre back.

If there is one thing we have done well with transfers in the past 2 yrs it is that we have received good coin for players gone. If Les Reed and Co received an offer they considered overs and Jose wanted to go than why stand in his way.

He may be more wanted than any of us really know 29 , not saying he is wanted by everybody but it only takes a bit of interest to stir things up . 2 years ago we thought Rickie would finish his career here but then look what happened . I changed my pants this morning! OMG it means I have a mistress, and nothing to do with the skid marks.
It will all happen again this time next year, but then again, perhaps I'll then decide to keep them on for another twelve months!
