On the other hand in all of his interviews he says he will see out his contract with us . However his wording indicates that he probably will be off at the end of his contract which is the end of next season . Therefore like a player whose contract is running down we have to be prepared for his leaving by either trying to tie him down to a longer contract ( which would seem unlikely ) or be looking even now for a replacement when he does leave . We would have to do this with a player so I would think it follows that we would have to consider our options with the manager . My fear is that we get to the end of next season in a very good situation and then Ronald leaves us and we become unstable and start drifting in a reverse gear . I know this is all speculation but could work out that way.

I agree Chris. I think we should be offering him a 3 year extension to his present contract. I feel that he has shown that he can manage in the Premier league and obviously other clubs have noted this. As a club with limited finances I realise that we can't give him an open cheque book but we should tell him that we will back him as far as future purchases are concerned or he might feel that he's taken Saints as far as he can.

I think its difficult with Managers compared to players.
If we have a really bad season there will be shouts to have him sacked.
There are plenty of decent managers who would fit us very well.
Likewise as you say its only speculation but if I were the board I'd be seeing how we are doing come the end of the year and then look to offer a new deal if possible.
He won't move sideways like Poch. I'd only expect him to move to Barca or the Dutch National team.

Get Jurgen the German in if Koeman goes

I agree cyprussaint and as you say it doesn't necessarily mean we are guaranteed to do well under his leadership but I think we will . The main thing that would bother me is the players attitudes to the club come the end of next season if RK decides that he needs to take the step up to the next level , would we then have a situation where once again our best players decide that they want to do the same , don't know but on our past experiences this seems pretty likely to happen. We may have to pay the price for having such a high profile manager at our club and although there are other good managers out there it would be best not to have this stop/start situation with both players and management . As I stated in a previous post the huge amount of money in this league is alienating the medium and small clubs from the elite big boys and has spoiled the league as a genuine competition . No club like ours will ever be able to challenge the really big clubs , well not in my lifetime .

Jof33 he did say he wanted a project didn't he? Obviously meaning he wants saints! Well we can hope

The thing with Koeman is that he'll sign a contract, stay incredibly loyal during the contract but if he feels he's taken a club as far as he can take them, he leaves when his contract is up. Let's just hope he feels he can take us up another level, signs a new contract and waits for the Barce job or the club have scouted out another top manager

Think it's very important that what Ronald does will reflect on the players and what they will do, namely Wanyama, Tadic, Pelle, Mane etc. We need to start getting our more marketable first teamers extending their contracts rather than running them down and/or leaving.
