Given our clear need for a proven Championship striker, I'm baffled by the fact we're not looking to sign Patrick Bamford on a free. He can be signed up now as he is a free agent.

With Stewart out again, and Armstrong performing on the wing, our only options are Archer and Damion Downs, who have been lackluster to say the least.

Surely a short-term low risk contract is worth looking into?

That’s not a bad shout at all

Tonight’s atrocity would suggest this is a great idea.

We are heading backwards. can't wait for the Boys drivel by way of explanation. He has had time to show a direction and has failed. Please go lad

Dunno what was going on at all. Three soft goals to concede, and as soon as they went two ahead and sat off us, I counted the seconds between passes. It was 4, 5 seconds at a time. No one touch, no incisive movement, just pass it around the back, put a hopeful ball into the box and watch it get cleared. They also brought on a lad (Armstrong) clearly just to get in amongst our CBs and he did that.

As soon as they worked us out and changed it, we offered nothing. Still didn’t bring people on until too late and we still had a back five when trailing 1-3 after 80 minutes.

Four league wins in nearly 18 months. And still we sell out our away allocation almost every week. We have led a match at half time once all season (which we drew) . We’ve led a match at full time twice (two injury time goals, and got off the hook at SHU) . We haven’t won by two goals since WBA in the play off second leg.

Ralph was watching. Shall we just ask him back.

Without a proper target man we look toothless! Antonio or Bamford would do a job. What worries me is that we have recruited very good players on previous form but suddenly they have all crashed and burnt! Does this bring into question the club’s recruitment or On field tactics or mindset of the players in the first team squad?
For me the championship is all about winning games, possession means nothing, training ground rotations mean nothing, put the bloody ball in the net!
Still has got 4 games imo.

Bristol City's manager is also new, but they show a clear play style and identity, Will has had time to implement something, but i'm not sure what our play style is, other than high crosses into a a short striker, expecting him to outjump taller players

@2408 you are a better tactician than me.

Thoughts on these ideas to sort this mess out.

1. Put Fellows as RWB in current 3 4 3 and swap Azaz for Archer to give height.

2. Go 4 4 2 with Arma and Azaz up top (with Azaz dropping to 10 when played central) then Fellows and Scienza/Robinson on wings.

3. Go all out with Azaz and Arma up top, Scienza as AM with Charles DM and Robinson on the left, Fellows on the right.

All else I can think of leaves Fellows out or Arma as a sole 9.

There’s no point trying to fit square pegs in round holes. Fellows is a winger, preferably on the right, Azaz a CAM, Scienza on the left. You can’t play a back five with that. I know we tried a back four and got lasted but we have with a back five as well. Our best players are our midfielders (theoretically) so 4-2-3-1 has to be the play.

Robinson can also be in the mix, Armstrong has to be the forward as we have no one else, Charles and someone alongside, then whatever we can make of a back four and keeper. We quite simply have to win three of our next four. If we lose at the weekend, we are in a relegation battle. It’s totally insane. Club is rotten to the core.

I hear you SaintGGsy!

I agree our best players are midfielders and 4 at the back is the way to go. Hope Still changes it.

I like the 4 2 3 1 or 4 3 3. It's a real shame we have two of the best wingers in the league but a 5ft 9 number 9! I would try and keep the ball on the ground but if there is a great cross on, push Azaz forward, so a flexible 4 2 3 1 / 4 4 2 (#2) until we get a proper striker in.

If we are down with 20 mins to go, would love an all out 4 1 4 1 with Leo, Azaz, Fellows, Arma, Robinson!

It's a crazy situation to be in. Something is indeed rotten at the club, meanwhile Smallbone and Bree are flying high! Maybe need to bring back Flynn in the park.

Edwards Wood Stephens Manning back four. Fellows Charles Downes Scienza midfield four. Choice of Azaz Robinson AA Fraser as front 2 until we recruit a proper centre forward. In January, sell THB, loan out Archer Downs Edozie to try and get them playing to either add value to them or hope they regain some form. Release Aribo.
How well are Smallbone Taylor and Bree doing? Why have they improved beyond recognition? Even BBD is looking a better player.
Board needs to look at the whole mindset of the coaching staff if things do not improve.

What winds me up more than anything is the lack of aggression. Physically we are light weights - we get out muscled in 50-50 challenges, jeez even 60-40’s in our favour.

We seem to be a team of pretty boys who should belong in boy bands. They huff and they puff and then get blown over.

So the point you make 2408 about a new coaching philosophy is spot on. The very least the fans deserve is a do or die work ethic. Instead, all we got is a diet of excuses and half baked apologies.

Unfortunately, Boy Still needs to go now. I await Lesleee’s world view!

Given recent results, the only chance Saunts have of selling out stadiums is starting a boy band!

Like that line up until Jan @2408. Need some leaders in there. Something is definitely wrong. Average players look good elsewhere and good players look average here.

I think Still has 4 or 5 games and if not top half of the table, we need a change or playoffs are gone.

You’re right Saint That…. thing is if we made the play-offs and miraculously got promotion, the present bunch would be eaten alive in the PL. They would be cannon fodder even for the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth, Palace and Forest - never mind the big boys.

It’s a dilemma, it really is. I’ve never bought into this 2 or 3 season rebuild project but I kind of get where those in favour are coming from.

Right now, I’d settle for high tempo, balls into the box and players leaving it all out there. If that happened I would live with whatever result comes of it - win or lose.

I think we are on for that 2 or 3 season rebuild. Charles, Jander, Wood, Quarshie, Fellows, Robinson and Oyekunle could grow into very goods players and we need a few transfer windows to sort the squad.

Do we write off this season and give Still and players the time to adapt with the pressure off or switch? Club culture also needs a reset and some vision from the top.
