Just seen the rumour regarding Celtics Virgil Van dyjk
I hope this is true as he. Would be a massive signing

1x1

1.) 13 Jul 2015 08:49:08
I'm sure one of the Ed's said he had been looked at but nothing had yet to materialise in terms of serious interest from us. Perhaps we have since placed a bid, as Les Reed said we had placed 2 or 3 bids for players in his interview with Adam Blackmore on Friday.

2.) 13 Jul 2015 09:44:06
Good morning people old misery guts here . Well here I go again concerning Van Dijk this time the Celtic centre half . I have been watching him quite a lot since we showed interest( allegedly ) last summer . I do not dispute he has his strengths in size and physical presence and he is reasonably quick across the ground and quite skilful for a centre back. The down side to me is his Roy of the Rovers approach to some games where he seems to forget being a CB and turns himself in to an AM which can leave you a bit exposed at the back . I would hope if we do purchase him that RoKo would sit him down and thrash it out with him what his role for the club would be . If we bought him that's great but I would also ( when fit ) get Ron Vlaar in as well as he is a brick wall defender that we will need if Van Dijk gets carried away on his up field excursions . Ron Vlaar has not been fit and once his knee is sorted ( not serious op and quick recovery ) he will be back to being a great player . He is a free agent and only 30 and would do us very nicely for the next couple of years in my opinion . Now this is my opinion which I know is probably on my past record on here not going to be agreed with by many but that is how I see it and I thought this was a banter site for opinions . It seems to me that there are some people that post on here who think they are always right which is great if that's the way they feel but have they ever thought just for one second that they may possibly be wrong? Anyway I love this site and long may it continue.

3.) 13 Jul 2015 10:12:37
Believe it or not I sort of agree with you here Chris! Vlaar on a free could be a shrewd signing and van dijk is young and has the makings of a potentially top defender. He probably goes on a Messi in the Scottish league since its so pants he probably feels like he has a genuine chance of scoring without too much risk involved! Lol. Be interesting to see exactly what sort of role koeman has in mind for gardos, or whether he might sign 2 and get rid of the big romanian?.

4.) 13 Jul 2015 10:17:46
A welcomed opinion as always Chris, and if that's Van Dijk's only fault in your eyes then sign him up immediately! You've made him sound like one Dutch Legend - Ronald Koeman.

5.) 13 Jul 2015 10:36:02
I agree with you Chris. I would like to see Van Dijk brought in. Yes he's got his faults but he's quite young and still learning and with Fonte and Ron Vlaar there I'm sure that he could turn into a top class CB. Vlaar was the best defender on show at the last World Cup and you don't suddenly become a bad player so if his operation is minor and he can get himself fit I'd have no worries about signing him on a free.

6.) 13 Jul 2015 10:36:47
I don't think there will ever be another RK and don't forget he played for Barca so I don't think there is any comparison there but who knows?!!

7.) 13 Jul 2015 10:49:57
I agree with chrisdownj this time especially re Vlaar, plagued with injury last season but there's no denying he's a quality defender, you don't play in a World Cup semi final and be voted one of the tournaments best players if you're rubbish and if Fonte is out for any amount of time his experience could be invaluable

Can't say I've seen much of van dijk but a Celtic supporting mate of mine has said about his adventures down the pitch and leaving them wide open at the back, if he's cheap get him but probably better players around if he's going to cost more than 10 million

8.) 13 Jul 2015 12:32:42
Why does everyone keep going on about Vlaar's performances at the world cup. If Vlaar has been the top level defender that everyone is making him out to be then why hasn't he been snapped up by a top club during his peak years?
Too old, too slow and too injured. Had a lucky world cup over a year ago but apart from that he is average.
You couldn't ask for a better person than RK to bring out the best in Van Dijk, and his best years are very much coming up soon.

9.) 13 Jul 2015 13:00:36
I really do question some fans football knowledge, especially some people on here who seem to make out that reserve players are world class.

A) You really think we will get Ron Vlaar? He isn't the type of player we go for. Too old and would probably demand a large amount of money for a player we would use as backup. We take personality into account as a major factor as well, for all we know he has an ego-problem and would not gel with the squad.

B) As cyprusssaint says, if he is so good, why has no one else snapped him up? The papers have only linked us to him as we need a CB and he is Dutch. Most players we are strongly linked with in the papers we never sign. AKA Soares (until it was done).

C) You don't remember the thrashing we gave Villa at home? Vlaar was at fault for some of them. He isn't that good. Who cares about the World Cup, a lot can happen in a year.

Genuinely, it would be awful if we signed Vlaar. Would definitely be a backwards step and I don't think it will ever happen, again it is papertalk. He would demand too much money. He is made for a team that is the lower half of the table, like sunderland of west brom.

10.) 13 Jul 2015 16:05:31
If Saints sign Van Dijk from Celtic, Vlaar would be an excellent back up being a free transfer.
I am concerned with 4 out of the 6 defensive system missing (Forster - injured, Bertrand - injured, Clyne - Sold to Liverpool, Alderweireld - Sold to Spurs).
RK will have to rebuild that even though he probably knew Clyne and Toby would go, but it is something he will have to overcome.
But being a defender himself he will find the right candidates utilising Fonte as the spine factor of the defensive team.
Jordy Clasie would be an ideal replacement for the loss of Schneiderlin, but another holding midfield signing would be good too.
Harrison Reed lacks discipline at present, but to say he could be world class is a different story altogether, if he turns out to be half as good as a Paul Scholes, Liverpool would have a great player lolol

11.) 13 Jul 2015 17:49:23
"its all gone quiet about vvd 😉" - esso14, a week ago?

12.) 13 Jul 2015 18:37:47
really do question some fans football knowledge, especially some people on here who seem to make out that a regular international player (for a team ranked 5th in the world) are rubbish

A) You really think we will get Ron Vlaar? Maybe not but you can't say he isn't the type of player we go for. Yes, we usually go for younger players but as Boruc, Stekelenburg and Pelle show, if we need experience in a position, we'll go out and get it. 30 is relatively young for a centre back, age wouldn't be an issue. We take personality into account as a major factor as well

13.) 13 Jul 2015 19:22:32
I see half my post got cut off again aha

09 Mar 2015 09:45:20
I've been reading a few reports from overseas press and it seems to me that unless we make the CL this year we are going to lose 3 key players in Morgan, Toby and Clyney.
This from their own mouths not agents or made up press quotes.
We have yet again another serious recruitment programme to follow this summer.
I know there will be those of you out there that live in cloud cuckoo land that don't want to believe it but this is definitely going to happen.

1x1

1.) 09 Mar 2015 11:21:21
You are right but I'm not too concerned. As long as they give us their best this season then let them go. We will get good money for Spider and Clyne and they will be replaced. Athletico Madrid replaced their players from last year as we did and we are both doing well. Saints are already planning you can be sure of that.

2.) 09 Mar 2015 23:36:34
Decent post and I can see all of them leaving. Let's be honest I think top 4 went with the Liverpool defeat but I guess we could sneak in as a lot of the others have to play each other while we have slightly easier run in (well after Sunday!)
Personally I think if Toby was going to stay then with would have been done by now so makes me think the player is dragging his heels and as much as he has enjoyed this season might be waiting for a CL team to make a offer. As for Morgan as good as he is I'm getting bored with the same stuff with arsenal spurs etc and well if he wants out let's get decent money and replace him. Clyne is top right back and would be huge shame if he left but again if they don't want to be part of the project then let's get top dollar and replace.
I am personally excited for run in to the summer see where we finish and then add more quality and who knows perhaps next season CL qualification might happen.

3.) 12 Mar 2015 01:19:56
I don't think you can count Alderweireld as a key player who is leaving, as he was never a Saints player and only contracted for one season.

If he wanted to join permanently, I'm sure he would've done so by now at the rumoured agreed price, as Bertrand did.

Just enjoy his contributions but don't get too attached, I'd say.

As for the other two, I'm pretty sure most supporters knew this would be their last season at Saints months ago. It is what it is.

4.) 12 Mar 2015 07:58:12
Qwertyell, what planet are you on?
Alderwireld not a key player?
He has been our best centre half this season when he has played in that position regardless of the fact that he can play anywhere across the back four and the holding position in midfield. No wonder then that The Mancs and Spuds are sniffing around our unkey unsigned player.

5.) 12 Mar 2015 11:29:42
I agree that those three are likely to leave. Maybe, just maybe Toby will stay but I'm not convinced.
On the brighter side we will have cash in the bank to spend.
With spider linked to Arsenal, how about a deal involving Walcott coming back? He is down the pecking order there at the moment and if he could stay injury free would be just what we need alongside Pelle

6.) 12 Mar 2015 19:01:25
1x1, I mean counting Alderweireld as one of "ours" who is leaving. He isn't leaving, he was never contracted to stay beyond the season. His situation is exactly as it was on the day he signed, so I'm not sure there's much point in throwing his name onto the potential "exodus" list and getting all gloomy about it.

7.) 12 Mar 2015 21:05:29
I stated 3 key players to be replaced.
Exactly as it says on the tin!!!

8.) 16 Mar 2015 17:44:07
Cyprus please be kidding. Walcott is Mark Twain, missed about 83 chances this season and he's only played about 5 games! He can still run fast yes, but that's it. I'd rather Mane any day.

9.) 15 Apr 2015 12:58:12
Arsenal won't let theo leave, even if he did he wouldn't come here. He wants money and plenty of time off. Good player at his peak (18 when he was with us) but with the exception of one good game for arsenal against Milan he hasn't done anything since leaving. He is just a name, that's all.

31 Jul 2014 07:48:24
Ezekiel schelotto in exchange for Osvaldo now.
What a poor bit of business, one Inter fan saying christmas comes early another saying his love for Inter was apparently greater than his skills. Need I say more!

1x1

1.) He can play right back and right midfield. He is fast hence his nick the greyhound. Loaned out to Parma last season and scored 4 goals in 16 appearances. It is again a loan with Osvaldo going the other way so no major problem if if he it doesn't turn out to be a great signing. This gives us options and means the squad is getting stronger. Also gives us time to look at and assess better targets. Some fans at inter saying they are sad to see him go so one opinion that Xmas has come early does not scare me

2.) Correct me if I'm wronge but didn't we have a player like that? calum chambers!!!!!

3.) Schelotto is appalling, I really hope this doesn't happen. (I'm a lifelong Inter, Southampton & Lyon fan)

4.) Yeah this lad has terrible feedback.

5.) 31 Jul 2014 21:51:33
Lets be honest none of us have a clue apart from the almighty ED. We won't know who were going to sign until their photographed with a Saints shirt at the stadium or staplewood. However, with Van Dijk and Forsters performances last night you would have to question their levels of interest at Celtic, possible moves South on their minds?????

6.) 31 Jul 2014 23:59:41
I have said it all along, why would you sign a goalkeeper for mega money when he has not even played a full season in the PL. I think he's got to prove himself for that sort of money (crazy). Go back and get David Marshall, we need a top class keeper this season, he is the best option for that sort of money.

02 Jul 2014 08:45:07
Reports are suggesting that spiders representatives are speaking to other clubs about the possibility of a transfer!
Sound as though he has also made up his mind to leave.

With Lovren handing in a transfer request as well we can seriously assume neither of these players will be with us come the start of the season and anybody saying that they will are quite deluded. If they both say, as That Judas Lallana did, that they do not want to play for the club again then there would be no point trying to stop them.

I just hope that we sell them both to foreign teams and definitely not Spuds.

1x1

1.) Could offer the captaincy to either one in my opinion - don't know if that's a big deal though! I heard that Koeman asked Lovren for 1 more season and that he said 'no'.

2.) Mange tout Rodney, mange tout.

3.) Just thought it worth mentioning that we are where we are now due to the likes of AL, MS and SRL etc. why does everybody all of a sudden knock them for technically achieving every footballers dream. Playing in the Champions League and for your country. Deep down I think we all know Saints will not be playing in the CL at least in their playing careers. We may struggle this year but will not be relegated and will come back strong in 2015/2016. Finally we may see the best from Gaston this season if given a chance to play regular games, quality player who reads the game as well as Rickie did. A bit of a lightweight but skill to burn.

4.) I was also thinking that Everton might lose their 3 best players from last season as they were all loanees and no one is talking 'meltdown' for them. If we lose Spider and Lovren though, that'll be a struggle.

5.) We haven't been knocking Lambert at all we completely understand his exit and the fact he was very courteous about it. Lallana on the other hand was seemingly an absolute **** to the staff of the club and forcing his way out without the slightest piece of respect for the club who brought him to this level in the first place.

6.) Couldn't agree more Saintphil, The ad in the Daily Echo was just bs.

7.) It's quite impressive he managed to make it bs considering he didn't really say anything in it. Just a big picture of himself. Clearly got his head shoved so far. I don't believe I need to continue.

8.) If these players do not want to be a part of this project and no longer wish to play for the club well then bye bye see ya! Let's build a team that want to win and be together. I think we as saints fans must accept this and move on stay positive because the future is bright. Coyr

9.) 02 Jul 2014 15:25:47
Lallana isn't a judas! Just an ambitious ayer, I for one am very appriciative of what he's done! Stop slaging the bloke off and think to yourself if I work for this company I get 20000 a week if I work for that companyi get 120000 a week!

10.) Its the way he has gone about it, he has been a massive diva about! 14 years we get 23 words, compare that to mata when he left chelsea.

11.) 02 Jul 2014 17:00:39
People must understand that Lallana and Shaw are English players that fetch premium prices. Lovren and Schneiderlin do not. Therefore the Board did well to sell the former, but I don't think they will agree to selling the latter.

12.) Agreed if they are both under long contracts so unless the bids are a joke I. e 30 million each tell em there staying, if they kick up a fuss let em rot in the reserves year is a long time in football so can't see em wanting to spend year in the reserves

13.) Here we go again we have these emails knocking these people for leaving our club 'i am going to turn my back when he come here next season'.

We have a great club, well run and with a new squad to be built by Koeman. And with terrific support home and away.

Stop acting like we have an inferiority.
complex. We are on attendance and league position a big uk club, just not as big as some of the others.

Support the team and fingers crossed that we do as well we did last season.
No club anywhere in the world is able to stop players who want to leave

14.) I say cash in and buy players who want to play for the club. Let's face it, if lallana had an outstanding season for Liverpool, and Real Madrid or barca came in ( I know I know lol)I'm sure he would want out there too.
Don't take it personally, it's football and players will want to play in big matches. Something saints can't offer now, or within the next 12 months.

15.) 02 Jul 2014 19:27:34
and don't fall ror the liverpool old chestnut
we are making our last offer take it or leave it
saints reply 30 000000 or get lost and do one
forestsaint

16.) 02 Jul 2014 20:30:28
lallana will never ever be good enough for real or barca
alright saying let players go if they wish to play elsewhere but it must be for the top price not on the cheap
notice liverpool won't let suarez go on the cheap
so wht should saints
forestsaint

16 May 2014 17:29:55
Poch to spuds is a done deal.
He met with spuds chairman on Tuesday and the job is his
If he wants it. He apparently told Lallana not to sign anything
Regarding moving to the scousers as he would like him at spuds.
Time to move on.

1x1

1.) I have to admit to being surprised as MP was in Southampton tuesday night - and as for telling AL not to go to Liverpool? I know Adam wants CL football next year - I wasn't aware Spuds had qualified.

2.) Wouldn't surprise me but hope poch stays. Sort it out soon saints

3.) The day before the Saints board met to discuss what they will do if those North London yobbos (do you remember that?) come in for Pochettino. As someone famous once said do'h.

4.) Hopefully poch will stay and we're hear something soon and we're keep our players and sign some decent ones

5.) Some papers reporting Poch has been offered a 300% payrise if he stays. Not saying I believe anything in the papers but just saying.

6.) As far as we all know tottenham haven't even approached saints yet so hopefully the money will be right and he will stay

7.) Come on saints sort it out had sign him up quickly and let's keep everyone and sign some decent players

8.) Poch should be sorted out soon

Please, everybody read NBCs article on Southampton FC breaking into the American market. Truly fascinating.

Fantastic result for the lads tonight and although under the cosh for most of the second half we survived the pressure. This mostly thanks to the heroics of the big man in goal.
If only we could have sold Mane in the transfer window we might have been able to buy somebody with a bit of composure in front of goal ( he should have scored twice )
I feel that if Charlie was fit with the chances we created we could have maybe stolen the 3 points. But we will never know.
We are up to 7 th at present and although there is a long way to go and some difficult games to come I feel that we are back to where we were last season, let's hope that we can keep pushing on and achieve another great season for us Saints fans.
I wonder where the doom mongers are now?

1x1

1.) 03 Feb 2016 12:14:08
I went to the game with my Arsenal mates - Romeu was excellent in midfield with big vic - they won so much in front of the defence - I am sure shane long would have been happier playing rugby league - he seems to run at players, bash into them and then fall on the ground. Also VVD looked very classy again - he made a great break up left wing all the way from defence and long and pelle just ran away from him and stood on the penalty spot - nobody came to meet his run - he looked really annoyed.

FU2.

2.) 03 Feb 2016 13:56:33
So, Mane is trying too hard (IMO), and not taking chances, so we should get rid!?

On that basis, better fit revolving doors at all clubs. I have yet to come across a goal scorer who does not have periods where he can not score (remember Le God? ) Mane is a young guy still finding his way. He is trying his socks off, give him a break.

3.) 03 Feb 2016 18:05:59
Agree sAINT martin, however, I suspect Mane will go in the summer.

4.) 03 Feb 2016 20:58:43
You could well be right WillsaSaint-and then some will say he showed no loyalty!

5.) 05 Feb 2016 09:43:53
Mane is a good player but is he really consistent enough for a top top team I agree sometimes he's amazing but he has some shockers and doesn't have a finish as often as he should I think if we get a bid of around 30 million we should take it.

Uh-oh
Yoshida starts today.
Why? Soares has been superb of late
Watch this space.

1.) 08 Nov 2015 18:00:58
Simple-no Victor. Our three in midfield ready for the panto season with their 4 friends and Snow Wight. Height and set plays.
Suspect if Victor played so would Soares.

28 Aug 2015 18:27:49
I see that WBA have just greed a fee for Johnny Evans from Man U.
Surely that would have been a better signing for us to make rather than trying to get the untested VVD.

Yet again another one of our rivals getting better whilst we do not.

1x1

1.) 28 Aug 2015 19:10:16
I wouldn't worry about Evans. He's another John O'Shea who'll be exposed as totally crap without 10 Man United-quality players bailing him out to give the illusion that he's competent.

2.) 28 Aug 2015 20:12:26
After the everton game it was stated saints need an experienced CB
FAIRLY URGENTLY
12days later we are still waiting WHY

3.) 28 Aug 2015 22:55:53
No money in rokos pockets all locked away , so about 140m in transfers plus 80m from revenue from tv rights etc, 220m and were still waiting for a quality cb

24 Aug 2015 21:20:42
I'm going to have a it of a rant.

I became, along with family members a season ticket holder 2 years ago.
We did this because we enjoyed the football and the way the club were headed, with great players and great expectations.
We also wanted to follow our beloved heroes across the nation to other great clubs and stadia.

Well, I have a few realisations that I would like to share.

To get a ticket for an away game was nighh on impossible due to the policy of the club. We managed to get tickets for 2 away games that we could make. This was due to large ticket allocation for us and lack of so called loyal away supporters wishing to go to far flung corners of England mid winter or at the end of a season when there was nothing to play for.

We are just as disappointed with the policy this year as we would have liked to go to Arnhem FCM and Watford but we're not priority supporters.

Then there is the club. We appreciate that players want to move on to bigger and better things now and then, but, how is it that our club cannot get any player of quality to sign long term contracts and keep them with us to see out these contracts? For example why did Wanyama only get a 3 year deal when we paid 12mil for his services ( bloody stupid by Les Reed ) the press says that he now wants to go and we now cannot stop him! As have nameless players within 12 months

The team that we bought season tickets to watch has all but disappeared.

We have all decided two games into the season that we will not renew next year but will pick and choose our games purely because we do not believe the clubs hierarchy can see what most fans on the terraces can see.

This year is the year that we would want to stay in the prem because of the influx of pound notes next season. Unless the hierarchy understand this and look after the fans and get to grips with the players leaving then I'm afraid I can only see a big demise.

Come on Saints we still love you but sort these issues please.

Downhearted,!

1x1

1.) 24 Aug 2015 22:40:07
See, I have a few problems with this post. The policy of the club is spot on, fans who followed the club through thick and thin, through League one and the championship, who went to Wallsall and Hartlepool away on freezing cold December nights DO deserve perks over so called 'fans' who've just bought season tickets since we started doing well, so they can say they've been to the 'attractive grounds'. You're moaning about not being priority supporters yet then say you've already decided to not renew your season ticket, all because you're crying over players you want to be at the club not being there, well frankly, you don't deserve to be a priority over fans who go whether we're bottom of league one on -10 or top of the premier league. /endofMYrant

2.) 24 Aug 2015 23:51:29
"You're not allowed to complain" - Saint martin. Ok its not a quote.

3.) 25 Aug 2015 05:25:37
We have been to nearly every game for the last 5 years including away games whilst in league one when we could go. The reason we didn't buy a season ticket before was because we never had a problem getting a ticket.
Problems getting a ticket became apparent whilst doing well in the championship hence the reason for buying season tickets not because we were part time supporters.
Tickets for away games should be on a first come first served basis and not for ( loyal ) fans to buy and then sell on just to get the loyalty bonus.

4.) 25 Aug 2015 10:16:54
Wanyama is on a 4 year contract. 2 yrs left joined in 2013

5.) 25 Aug 2015 12:52:29
The Premier League is all about making money for all concerned with the club.
When we were sitting in Division One, membership was free and my brother and myself came to games via Hospitality at around £40 pp.
We got centre seats and excellent food and service.
We were not able to buy season tickets due to work commitments.
Now, there's a cost implication for membership, the same hospitality costs around 5 times as much, and if you end up in a wings section, you HAVE to stand because the club can't implement H & S very well.
The 10,000 or so supporters who turned up in those lowly days, forgotten once the PL returned.
This is called business, we can all moan but its a time waster to be honest.

6.) 25 Aug 2015 13:11:25
The only way for us as fans to help our club to become a big club is for us fans to continue to buy tickets to every game and sell out to push the club to expand the stadium to gain a bigger capacity and in turn generate high income allowing us to pay players bigger wages to players in turn attracting higher caliber players to the club and also helping us to keep the quality players at the club. I can provide any doubters proof of this look at Liverpool and Spurs both are building new bigger stadiums to try and help them bridge the gap to the top 4 and help make them more competitive against them. Yes we sell players for big money enabling us to sign replacements but we can't afford the wages for players of the same caliber so we buy players we can develop to become that standard of player. Fans turning there back and not renewing ST is not going to help resolve the issue of the team you paid to watch disappearing.

7.) 25 Aug 2015 13:53:23
Yep Romsaint. Exactly like Morgan was on when he tried to force a move last year.

8.) 25 Aug 2015 16:35:08
@1x1 if that's the case they'll be on your customer number and you should be entitled to buy tickets earlier

I work more Saturday's than I don't, so I've not owned a season ticket for about 10 years but I've still gone to 25 (probably nearer 35 in league 1/championship) games a season. Those tickets are on my customer number and I'm given the opportunity to buy tickets first, bring up the situation with the club and it should get sorted

My point about the season ticket issue arises from the fact that the club advertise that if you buy one you can get priority to buy tickets to away games. Well that is complete BS . Because the clubs priority is to sell to people who have been to 12 or 11 or whatever the season before . Basically I've got no friggin chance of getting to the 12 or 11 or whatever this season cause I didn't the year before.

DO YOU NOW SEE MY POINT COMPLETELY FRIGGING INSANE.

In past years it was first come first served which allowed all season ticket holders the chance to follow the boys away.

Now it is just the select few same people who all think that because of this policy that they are more loyal and more of a fan than the rest of us.

What utter bollocks

Can't understand how this club attracts so many confused supporters.

We can't stop Victor going? We can, and we have. Media says he wants to leave. So what, the media spout utter rubbish every day of the week.

If Barca came calling with the right offer, all our players would want to leave! Whether they would be allowed to is another matter, so stop picking at every little unsubstantiated titbit and have some faith.

87, after all the rubbish you have spouted about the board ( Katherina and les and Ralph ) you now say good work. This just beggars belief!

Even more worrying is the fact that Kowman has stated that our academy stars are not up to scratch.
Something seriously wrong here. Either Roko has no idea and a new manager may be required or I would hope that he is just saying that to give them a kick up the backside as we need help with the first team.
On another note teams all around us are buying and improving yet again, if we do not do the same we will end up in the championship again!
WE NEED NEW BLOOD!

I have read. Your posts Vick and am of the opinion that you either do not attend our games or that you are ill advised and have an opinion that is outside the box to most other fans that attend on a regular basis.
The best football played in France I'm afraid comes nowhere near the standard, quality and speed and directness of the premier league . And yes I know this for a fact as does most experienced football fans.
I admire the fact that you are backing the club and Puel as our manager, but will you be doing this come January when we are struggling at the wrong end to the table. I don't think so!
Yoshida is not good enough to help keep us up if it comes to it. Playing the equivalent of 442 football no matter who we play in midfield is just not going to cut it.
I will be the first to hold my hands up and apologise if I am found out to be wrong, but at present I cannot see that.
It seems that Fonte is off to MUFC, no matter what you say . It's happening unless the board and Les in particular grow some balls and start enforcing the contracts that players have signed and stop taking the money without re I forcing the squad.
I need to get this off my chest because those rose tinted glasses are well beyond their sell by date . Get real and get a grip as this is going to be one long hard slog of a season for SFC.

He wasn't that solid I'm afraid.
He is a championship level player at best, his short back pass could have resulted in a goal or an injury to Forster ( luckily for us this time it didn't ), we cannot rely on him to be a permanent CB if Fonte leaves, which this morning looks increasingly more likely.
Yoshida gets stick I'm afraid because if his mistakes. I reckon 80% of Saints fans will have the same view.

Puel has stated and his teams play a slow buildup possession style of football. Not the fast get the ball forward quick style that we have become accustomed to these past few years.
To me, and this is only my opinion, I cannot see this working very well for us in the PL. The diamond formation midfield was totally overrun by a mediocre side and I think that Manchester United will slaughter us in MF come Friday. In effect we played a 442 style today which most sides will have little trouble playing against. A 352 or 3511 system will always outweigh us in the middle.
There were opportunities for us today to play the ball forward quickly today but we chose not to instead going sideways or backwards. To me this was what we were doing 10 years ago . And it didn't work then.
I believe we will struggle badly this season unless Puel wakes up to the fact that the PL is a totally different league to play football in than that of the French League.

As I said this is just my view and I'm allowed to express it. I thought that we were crap today until Hoijberg came on as he steadied the ship quite considerably. We missed Fonte in defence and Yoshida did his usual in trying to gift the opposition a goal and if Fonte does leave ( it's 50/ 50 at mo ) then we are in for a long hard season.

Yeh, I must agree that if wanyamas was a straight red then West Ham United deserved to have got two of them . But hey we are Saints and Clattentwat was the ref . So nothing new as far as I'm concerned . He should have had on a claret and blue shirt on that might have helped all those millions watching on TV understand his decisions!

Rayzer, read my whole comment not just the last line. Anyway, yes we are all Saints fans and all entitled to our comments.
What is the point in wasting your time telling us that you dislike reading our comments?
