Jander. Downes/Edwards

With Azaz pushing further forwards when crossed high.

Azaz in and Smallbone and Edozie out seems good business. He was 3rd in the league last year for goals and assists.

Our best new 11?

Archer/Stewart
Robinson. Azaz. Fraser/Arma
Charles Fernandes
Manning. THB. Wood. Mads
Bazunu

Given the chat about our squad now compared to our last championship season, thought I'd have a look at the actual differences in senior players;

Regular players from 2023/24 who we've lost;
Def: KWP, Bednarek
Mid: S Armstrong, Rothwell, Alcaraz, Brooks
Fwd: Adams, Sulemana, Edozie

In since then;
Def: Sugawara, Welington, Edwards, Quarshie
Mid: Fernandes
Fwd: Downs, Archer, Stewart, BBD

So the forward line is ok, maybe a winger light.
Defence is fine, we've bought young and replaced older players.
Midfield is the issue. Currently it's ok, but we will sell Fernandes, and probably Dibling, and will need to get two midfielders, a winger and a GK with the money.

Given we've bought in a fair bit of crap, trimming the squad is fine. I have more faith in Still than Jones or Martin, but the main issue is repairing the mentality of a squad who have gotten so used to losing - hence a higher player turnover may not be a bad thing.

To be competitive in the top six we need a lineup of something like;

New GK
New RB, THB, Quarshie, Welington
Charles, Downes, New CM
Armstrong, Archer, New LW

Subs: Bazunu, Stephens, Edwards, Bree, Taylor, Aribo, BBD, Stewart, Downs

Plenty we can still sell and use to invest, and that side is a good championship side and should be near the top end. I doubt it will be the case though.

I am feeling a tinge of hope amidst the sour situation if we get Danny Rohl in. He is a clean slate, flexible, sets up in a 4 2 3 1 and if he can take a bottom championship side to mid table, maybe he can take a mid table side to the playoffs.

Ramsdale, THB, Bednarek, ABK, Dibling, Fernandes, Bednarek, Bazunu and Onuachu/AA or Diaz will fetch us 150m

Sugawara, Bree, Wellington and Manning are good wing backs at this level. Edwards or Sanda could take THB's place

Charles and Downes (if he stays) is a strong double pivot, then Sulemana Edozie and 3 of Archer, Armstrong, Stewart and Diaz are good attacking players for the Championship.

All in all, a similar quality squad to last time, if we buy and loan well. Then Rohl is probably a better and more flexible level than Martin. I can see 4th to 6th finish

McCarthy
Sugawara Wood Edwards. Wellington
Charles. Downes
Armstrong Aribo Sulemana
Archer

Lumley
Bree
Manning
Sanda
Stephens
Diaz

He's persisted with Armstrong?

The only reason I can think of is that in 5-a-side training, his little legs on a little pitch makes him stand out.

Let's hope for a long awaited win.

Just seen the lineup, AA really! No Sugawara, Dibling or Onaucha? Stephens and Manning! Everton 2-1 or 2-0, McNeil will have a field day. 🤬

We have 12 attacking players for 4 places.

Who would you start, who would you sub on and who is for the squad?

I have no idea. So, am going on PL track record, then goals last year. Would love your thoughts.

START
Cornet, Lallana, Dibling, Diaz

SUB
Fraser, Fernandes, Armstrong, Archer

SQUAD
Sulemana, Stewart, Onuachu, Ameyaw

Or a curveball comeback story:
Sulemana. Dibling Ameyaw Onuachu

I propose we seriously shake it up against Everton and experiment. It's a free roll of the dice.

Ramsdale
KWP. ABK. THB. Taylor
Downes. Ugochukwu
Sugawara Dibling. Ameyaw
Onuachu

SUBS
Fernandes for Ugochukwu
Lallana for Dibling
Cornet/Fraser for Ameyaw
Armstrong for Sugawara
Stewart/Diaz for Onuachu

Two young CBs but Ramsdale, KWP and Taylor add experience around them. Two solid DMs.

Sugawara, Dibling and Ameyaw have been the players to get me on the edge of my seat, so let's throw the kitchen sink and experiment.

Diaz, AA, Archer and Stewart have fallen short so let's give Onuachu a go and get balls in the box.

Frustrating result and penalty miss but I saw three big positives.

1. Better Starting 11. Managed to get Fernandes, Ugochukwu and Dibling in the side

2. Standout Performers - Thought Dibling, Ramsdale and Sugawara were excellent.

3. Positive Tweaks - No suicidal passes, we took players on and Stewart gave us a target man.

We need to improve our mentality, physicality and finishing. I would also like to see ABK given a shot and a 4 2 3 1.

Poor result but a step in the right direction overall and glad RM showed some flexibility.
