Hi Eds

Is Schneiderlin staying or going? If he's going, where to? I need to know who to back for the title.

MySaintedAunt

{Ed002's Note - He will be going.}

1.) 25 Jun 2015 15:33:33
I don't see how spiders transfer changes a 2 horse title race.

2.) 25 Jun 2015 16:14:27
Dont forget the ~ £30 million + we get on our books to go and use elsewhere - its not the worst position to be in. Schneiderlin deserves to move up - he is good enough and stayed last season - so respect there.

Clyne - he will be paid more - simple as that he has gone for the money - but then again he grew up in poverty in Brixton and probably has his close family to look after too - and he will get a better run at Engerland being in Liverpool - we will probably lose 2 players every year - that's just the way it is until we play CL - and even then we have a far lower wages ceiling than MANU etc.

Power to the people.

3.) 25 Jun 2015 16:46:32
I suspect you are correct FU2 except for the England bit. He will do well to maintain his England place at Liverpool as I do see him coming under a lot of pressure at Liverpool and I don't think he has enough talent to deal with that.

4.) 26 Jun 2015 01:17:59
I think we are all missing something here . We have to accept that we are not one of the BIG clubs but we have got some excellent players procured by the club over recent years and also the tremendous academy which has made us some serious money . We will not be a top four club in the near future unless we invest heavily in ground expansion and also be prepared to put mega money in . Unfortunately in this league he who has the most money will be in the CL places and the rest will fight out to be 5th or 6th . We did a fantastic job to get where we are in such a short space of time but I think that is it now , we have gone as far as we can go unless the board does a Jack Walker and buys the league . Our owners are business people and don't just throw money around like confetti unlike City , United etc. who just will just keep shelling it out until they get there . I would rather be us and keep striving to be the best whilst acting responsibly .

5.) 26 Jun 2015 05:29:21
United bound not arsenal. been saying this for nearly a month, no one listens =)

6.) 26 Jun 2015 07:47:33
I'm listening esso14. Don't let me down :)

7.) 26 Jun 2015 09:04:40
We have only really scratched the surface when it comes to improving the club's commercial standing, and that's where the money is really at. As Ralph likes to say it's a product, and although for a football fan it's not nice to hear it described that way, we need continue to be inventive and play exciting attractive football so we can market Saints to a larger worldwide audience.

We could get as close as possible to having a better team than Spurs or Liverpool, but it will be hard for us to sustain that position until we have a much bigger annual turnover. We're on the right track, but it will be years until we really see a difference.

8.) 26 Jun 2015 16:27:48
I think we have done far more than scratch the surface my friend. We were recently announced as the fastest growing brand in world football! What more do you want from a club in league 1 less than a decade ago??

9.) 26 Jun 2015 23:12:12
Esso, we are a little fish in a big pond ATM, despite the fact we were indeed the fastest growing brand last season and that is fantastic. However to breach the top 6 and sustain it we will need big sponsor deals, and a much larger global presence than we currently do. There's so much untapped potential, that's why we've only scratched the surface of a much bigger cash pile!

Our annual turnover is nowhere near the figures it could be, but so far the club is doing everything right to encourage growth to the Saints brand and value of the club.

10.) 27 Jun 2015 10:07:56
I think we will continue to build each year. We will always struggle to be a guaranteed top for club, but if we improve year on year, then we would be ready to pounce if the any of the top four underperform like last season.
Spider is replaceable, for all we know he could really struggle at the top level, just like other departures have found out.
Not fussed on Clyne leaving. I preferred chambers as a right back than Clyne. He was very average second half of lady season. Hardly ever bombed forward like he did, and defensively is very average imo

11.) 27 Jun 2015 10:31:31
Interesting points Saintsmiff, and to add to the Morgan being replaceable line I was watching some of his highlights from the 2013/14 season and I'd say he played a much more free roam role than he did last season. If you get a chance watch it and you'll see how he was a much better creative outlet as well as positionally being far more advanced during attacking play. And as it happens that would be just how Clasie would be if he were to sign as Morgan's replacement.

As a club we've never got over Pochettino.

We had something special but that bucking fitch broke our heart. Seduced by the the bright lights and cash. I don't blame him, but it still hurts.

The Koeman rebound felt like it could go somewhere, but come on, we were just kidding ourselves.

Maybe we need a relegation?

👏👏👏👏👏👏 CLOWN, WE don't NEED RELEGATION WE NEED TO GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

Eds - Any more on Paco Alcacer?

I guess it's not happening since the press would find an Alcacer/ Van Dijk/ Coutinho triangle irresistible.

1.) 06 Jan 2018 22:57:57
Yes they won the league but we had players within our ranks at the time who could have been in that team with out a doubt.
And puel has inherited a team that can break quick as he likes it and can work with
We as a team could also do this but player for player up front they are quicker and better than us.

Puel was a defensive manager who could grind out results un like pellegrino
123 will obviously try to spin this as he has with everything I've written but I've gone through all the quotes on the forum and he does that with everyone so he's obviously a skate on a wind up.

2.) 07 Jan 2018 02:01:23
spin it? you mean say I think what you said is stupid and explain why.

Hi Eds,

I saw Saints lined up 4-1-4-1 vs Spurs (as per MOTD) . I also see this is Tuchel's preferred formation (as per Transfer Markt) . Is this anything more than coincidence?

I also checked the "last six" metric on SS. Not good Xmas reading.

MySaintedAunt

{Ed001's Note - it is just coincidence, the team is being set up around who is fit and available so limiting options on formations etc.}

1.) 27 Dec 2017 15:05:30
Thanks Ed001, maybe just some wishful thinking from me!

In your opinion, what is going wrong at Saints at the moment?

{Ed001's Note - the wrong choice of manager and a lack of investment in the team to replace the players lost.}

2.) 27 Dec 2017 15:19:58
I agree with both those points. Here's hoping for a big statement in January.

I was at my 5-year-old's school play tonight. She was one of eleven in the "The Snowflake Dance". I was reminded of that.

I don't think there is too much to worry about . My opinion is that the Premiership is just so much tighter these days, All Teams are getting better, so we cannot compare ourselves from 2-4 years ago to the present, Just look at Burnley, Watford who would have thought! Totally disagree with a change of manager. that's just rubbish, We create chances in 'most matches' but we don't finish. that's not the managers Fault surely? . However, If the powers of Bee decided on a change, I would welcome back Nigel Adkins, unfinished business and harshly sacked. He's a player's manager!

In a nutshell, and as the original armchair fan, your first two points don't make me think Jardim/ Saints is a non-starter, in fact, quite the opposite. Saints have got a good squad, it just needs the right manager to make it work. Jardim sounds like he could be the right man for the job.

However.

Puel? Bowing to fan pressure was definitely a mistake there. All things considered, he did one hell of a job. This is what happens when you have an ice hockey coach running a football club. Are you saying that moving forward, that could be the decisive factor in terms of Saints' ability to attract managerial/ coaching talent?

Aside from the language barrier, why would Saints not go for him and/ or why would he not go for Saints? The whys and wherefores of the managerial sack race are something I really don't understand.

MySaintedAunt

{Ed002's Note - Clubs look to coaches and managers who can fit right in and improve the side. Coaches and managers look for clubs which are high profile, playing at the highest level and somewhere they can excel. Southampton pushed a good manager out of the door - other would be wary of that.}

It's a well-trodden path from Parkhead to St Mary's and they've all been successful buys, no reason this should be any different if it goes ahead.

Shaqiri from Stoke. Creative player and would weaken a direct rival. It won't happen for that reason alone. Maybe in the summer though.

Is demanding a record fee for a player that is going to leave anyway really a problem? I would argue not.

VVD wants a crack at the title, he isn't going to get that at Saints, and he likes the smell of what the Klopp is cooking. Let him go, but for top dollar.

Forget Allardyce and Moyes, they must surely be done at the top level.

The club should be looking for a Poch Mk II. Take a risk on fresh ideas. I'd heard that we were in with a shout of landing Bielsa. If that's true, why didn't we get him? I can only imagine the board thought he was too much of a risk.

It's frustrating to see managers like Wagner, Espirito Santo, Gracia coming into the Prem and playing interesting football and getting results (you know, like we used to) while we pay a dinosaur a fortune to bore the rubbish out of us.

I don't care who it is or where he comes from, I want an inspiring manager with a bit of fire in his belly, someone who can make the squad play as more than the sum of its parts, not less.

Saints are going through a bad patch, nothing more. They've been unlucky this season in terms of not getting the rub of the green. They're also playing with a lack of confidence.

The only mistakes made, as I see it, were sacking Puel too early and not having replaced Mane and Pelle. In hindsight, it also seems that VVD should have gone in the summer.

Eds - You guys are probably in a good position to answer this - Do any other fans whine and whinge as much as Saints fans?

A bookmaker offered 4/1 on Tadic going to Liverpool. The same bookie offered 1/5 on him staying at Saints. He's not going anywhere.

Reed's record as a manager has little relevance. He isn't being employed as a manager. His success in his current role speaks for itself.

123 - never argue with an idiot.
