Wow what a great point a real backs to the wall performance credit to all the players and I am the first to admit that Ralph got it right, it also helps to have a goalkeeper that looks the part and I hope that he keeps his place for the rest off the season

Great point In the circumstances Norfolk Saint and a real tonic as we set up for Newcastle (Covid permitting).

However, not so sure on your assessment of Forster! He’s just as likely to cost us the game as he is win us the game. One top drawer save and one absolute howler which was fortuitously disallowed by Mr Taylor.

Hopefully, with a run of games his confidence and form will return but we desperately need a new GK.

Not surprised Ings has gone he looked like he didn't believe in Ralph's system any more, however with less than 10 days to the start of the season who will fill his place, we need a proven premiership goalscorer and that won't come cheap. maybe an old warhorse like Costa or Giroud come be a short term answer but at the moment I think things are looking bleak.

A change of mind - Perhaps Danny Ings is not that Judas who traded his Hometown Club for a few extra bags of Silver but a compassionate guy who appreciated many months of nursemaiding to keep him fit by SFC physio staff and realising his career was fast approaching twilight time has shown his unwavering affection by hoodwinking Aston Villa into donating 30 million pounds to SFC coffers in an attempt to preserve his Hometown Club status in the Premier League. THANKS FOR EVERYTHING DANNY!

Just seen that we have enquired about Abraham for a loan at Chelsea - be a great signing if it's with an option to buy. I would prefer its a purchase but not sure how credible it is anyway. With us, he will play at least.

3.) 05 Aug 2021 13:32:59
Would be really happy with Abraham just think may be out of our price range.

Just seen that JWP not in the England 26 but players like Henderson who have not played for months are in, also Danny Ings did not even make the 33 man squad what on earth is the England manager thinking, he said all along he would pick players who were fit and on form, how he justifies this selection is beyond belief, no wonder England have not won anything since 1966 and we even needed home advantage and a Dodgy linesman to get that one done. The fact that Matt Letiss has so few caps says it all.

1.) 01 Jun 2021 23:33:16
I agree with you Norfolk Saint about Ings - it’s a travesty he didn’t get the nod and yes it does open up old wounds about Le Tis who would have walked into any other international side including Brazil, Argentina, Italy you name it.
But, and it’s a big but, I think you’re looking at JWP through Saints tinted glasses. I agree it’s a joke giving Henderson a place but JWP would not get in my squad either. He would only just get a place in my Saints side to be honest. Take his dead ball ability away and he’s ordinary. He contributes nothing in the last third - I cannot remember him taking a player on and beating him. Take David Beckham as an example of a dead ball specialist - he could do everything JWP does with a free kick and could change the game in open play. It maybe an unfair comparison but I would pick Mount and Grealish in front of JWP all day long.
Ings though is a different argument and as I would have him as cover for Kane at the very least - England need an impact sub and Southgate was mad to overlook him.

2.) 03 Jun 2021 13:32:08
Ings is the more like for like Kane replacement. After he went off vs Austria, we went a bit long ball trying to hit Calvert-Lewis. Danny drops deep just like Kane and allows the other 2 forward players space (as in our goal) . Crazy decision.

3.) 03 Jun 2021 17:48:06
Ings, on his day, is better than DCL, Bamford who have had excellent seasons. I am shocked he wasn’t in the 33. Given the size of the squads, I maybe would’ve kept JWP in just for that off chance where we get a free kick in the 84th minute of the Quarter-Finals from 24 yards out. He’s the best in the country in that situation and given there are four right backs, I think one could be dropped for him on that off chance he could save the day.

22 Jul 2020 19:22:08
Totally agree with saintGgsy PEH said that he wanted to move to play champions league and the only two clubs who have shown in an interest are nowhere near that level, the fact that the big six clubs have shown no interest says it all . Great to have JWP captaining the team Southampton through and through, probably only until someone offers 30 million or more then the club will sell him as well.

But that's the club's business model, to buy talent; nurture it and then sell for a profit - It's been well documented.

I have just seen saints kit for next season, personally I don't like it, Saints should always be red and white striped shirts, tradition is there for a reason. what do others make of it.

Norfolk Saint

{Ed002's Note - The Press Release implies it is an anniversary kit reflecting the kit from when the club was founded.}

1.) 08 Jul 2020 14:47:14
Anniversary kit would be our third strip, which I love, similar to 2010/ 11 season.

First kit reminds me of Middlesbrough when they were in the PL in 2017, bit tacky, but better than the ‘bra’ phase we’ve been going through of late. Bring back 2014-16 strips, I loved those. Sponsor also isn’t really in keeping with our colours being the massive ugly shape it is.

2.) 08 Jul 2020 17:59:59
I like it, only so much you can do with stripes ever year. Traditionally we’re red and white (with a little black) but fairly often we’ve changed it up, 1989 was the only year of the 80’s we had a striped shirt and 15 years out of the last 40 have been something other than stripes (17 if you count the Pony tick shirt)

Away shirt will be same as the third just black instead of white btw.

3.) 08 Jul 2020 22:22:08
I really like it, as someone who tries to buy at least the home and away shirts as a way to support the club every season, it’s nice to have something other than red and white stripes in the wardrobe.

Something a little different every third or fourth season is fine by me.

As a business move it is probably quite savvy by the club to try to invigorate sales, instead of people not wanting the new kit if it was just another red and white stripe kit that many fans already have.

So it may boost sales this season and next when they will invariably return back to the favored stripes.

{Ed047's Note - I just had a look, really quite like it, nice kit.

Wow what a start to the New year firstly a solid performance in the cup then a much needed league win and all on top of the takeover, it is starting to look like a good time to be a saints fan once there any chance that the new owners can get Broja on a permanent deal, now that would be something special

Great to read off the buy out, like other saints fans I am truly grateful to the Leibherr family and it was a tragedy when Marcus passed away, I have always wondered what we could have achieved if he had been around for longer, looking forward let's hope that the new regime are prepared to back the club fully whilst still keeping the feeling of a family club and not just millionaires plaything

I have just seen that the Newcastle game is postponed, how is this possible as all premier League squads are twenty-five strong .I am assuming that by the time this is rearranged Newcastle will have had the opportunity to significantly booster there team, this reeks of injustice and a lack of fair play

Just seen the team for today's meeting with spurs has Ralph completely lost the plot, how on earth is long playing, after a good win against West ham why so many changes, if it ain't broke don't fix it!

Norfolk Saint

1.) 28 Dec 2021 15:15:23
The three at the back is allowing JWP to push much further forward (at last) and combine well with S.Armstrong and Diallo .
This is the dynamic midfield we never usually have.

But with Armstrong and Long up front, I’m not sure we have the fire power to take advantage of the faster more dynamic midfield.

S.Armstrong to score ……

2.) 29 Dec 2021 20:00:42
Yeah rubbish line up for the job done with 10 men against a team who drop quicker than a lady of the night’s pants coys ?

06 Dec 2021 10:13:21
Help what and who are running our football club, last Saturday only one of our top seven earners started the match, we also have a third goalkeeper Harry Lewis who allegedly earns over one million pounds a year but Ralph doesn't use him to replace an injury and I now see a report that we are bringing in 40 year old Willy Cabrelero as an emergency loan, you could not make this up

Norfolk Saint

1.) 07 Dec 2021 13:03:34
Ralph and the goalkeepers . or should that be goalkeeper.
Firstly, McCarthy. it seems no matter how badly he plays, no matter how many mistakes he makes, Ralph picks him. That is the real issue here!
The chances of Forster being injured at the same time were pretty remote, considering Ralph never picks him for PL matches! Even after his superb performance against Chelsea in the cup, that wasn’t enough, McCarthy has made awful mistakes in several games in a row, but sadly Forster can’t grab his chance!
Ralph clearly has problems with man management, after a succession of players have left with not one thanking or mentioning Ralph. But his incessant picking of favourites has to stop, but by who? Is there no one at the club he answers to?

As for Winks, what a kick in the teeth that we bring in someone to play; or just maybe he will play with the new guy on the bench ……….

As for who’s running the club, it would seem Ralph!

2.) 07 Dec 2021 15:39:36
Maybe some good will come from bringing in Caballero. If he plays and has a couple of really good games it could show Ralph just how bad our 2 first team keepers are. He might then realise that he needs to look for a decent keeper sooner rather than later.

3.) 08 Dec 2021 08:59:51
Teejay : you know and I know, that even if Caballero kept 10 clean sheets, saved 4 penalties, made some worldly saves … McCarthy would be picked, even if caballero was still with the club …

4.) 09 Dec 2021 23:15:24
You guys will literally whinge about anything!

I'm not sure where you got your player wage figures from Norfolk Saint but from what I've seen, 3 of our top 7 earners started the match v Brighton. 2 were on the bench (Walcott and Moi). The other 2 are injured.

In any event, contracts are negotiated between club and agent and their weekly salary does not always reflect simply their weekly importance to the club.

I think its great to have a manager free to pick the side he thinks is best suited to play the match rather than the binary input of picking the highest earning 11 players.

Figures I have seen don't back up the £1m pa earnings for Harry Lewis. Not sure what his contract allows in respect of bonuses etc but they are probably performance related and if he's not playing he's not earning them. But tying in with the first point, it matters little what he earns when it comes to RH selecting him or not. Given doubts over both GKs in the first team, if Harry was considered ready, he would be given a chance. RH has demonstrated on plenty of occasions that he is happy to give youth a chance so it seems there are doubts about Harry too.

Also, with 2 first team keepers injured, it makes perfectly good sense to bring in an experienced GK proven at this level and capable of playing to a high standard, on a free. There is no guarantee he will start ahead of Harry Lewis. If he does, it is because he is considered the best option. Full stop. It could be argued that either keeper may be a roll of the dice so let's wait and see who is picked and how they play over a couple of games before declaring the club has gone mad and the end of the world is nigh.

Only on this forum could Saints bringing in a solid, experienced back up keeper on a free be met with cries of the club losing its sanity (despite the entirely logical, reasonable and sane reasons for them doing so), RH selecting a starting line-up based on his knowledge of the players and his system rather than their salary be sneered at, and once again, RH rotating players and bringing in new faces to cover for injuries be met with howls that he keeps picking his favourites.

I genuinely worry for your collective blood pressure.
