I am not surprised that saints don't win so many at home as we don't seem to be able to dominate teams like we use too, those older fans like myself will well remember the Dell roar which seemed to really galvanize the team, fans pay there money and have every right to criticize, although we should always remember that we are all on the same side and as long as every player is giving 100% they can do no more . we should also note that errors must be allowed for as we enjoy the mistakes that others make.

Well NS I'm not surprised either, although I suggest it is the lack of atmosphere at St Mary's, coupled with the (apparently) acceptable bad habit of some of supporters booing/ heckling our own players. I'm sure that if everyone sang, cheered and supported the lads - we'd be 5 places higher up the table!

Great performance tonight can't remember the last time I ended up disappointed that we only won 3-0.first five minutes it was all Norwich but once we got started we were different class. thr team made so many chances and great to see the goals shared around, would love to push on for a top ten finish to the season.

Great result by taking 3 points from Norwich City FC. Perhaps we could do the double by taking their exciting and impressive young right back ( who can also play at left back ) in the transfer market to fill one. of our weakest positions. Max Aaron’s is a proven Premiership Player.

2.) 21 Jun 2020 21:50:26
got no chance of getting Aarons, probably going to end up at a london club for £30 mil.

3.) 22 Jun 2020 08:08:35
Saints Saint Saint. Note your negative comments re the possible purchase of Aaron’s as NO CHANCE.1.Spurs apparently have no cash.2.Chelsea defence appears ok. 3.WHU league position looks precarious.4Crystal Palace not as attractive destination as SFC for player.5. Arsenal maybe? if they are in need. That equates to about a 50% chance for SFC (providing we could get LEVY to bid for us at around 12-15 million. ) I’m sure the player himself will not cherish the possibility of Champioship League next season!

{Ed001's Note - don't Saints have to sell to raise money?}

4.) 22 Jun 2020 11:36:31
afaik spurs have already put in a 30 million bid with arsenal sniffing around too - if that turns to a bidding war, the already very slim chance of signing him would be zero.

Considering the 3 players we've had significant links to lately (Salisu, Disasi and Zeefuik) would cost us less than £30million combined I can't see us smashing our transfer record to land him

Depending on what spurs offer for Hojbjerg we may not even spend £15 million this transfer window.

5.) 22 Jun 2020 13:46:37
I’m not suggesting paying anything like 30 mill. for 1 player (that was your quote) . Perhaps with the possibility of potential sales of Hojbjerg; Vestergaard Forster EllynouissiCarrilo Lemina Hoedt income for at least 2 decent incoming quality players plus a chunk of. last seasons account shortfall paid off. Eds001 Have you ever heard of a negotiated conditional offer. on a property or land subject to the sale of their own property (within a time limit)? Maybe this Business is conducted in similar fashion and expect several negotiations to be underway at the present time.

It now looks as if the season will not be completed due to the crisis, my view is that there should be no relegation and that Leeds and WBA should be promoted and saints first team otherwise known as Liverpool should be awarded the title, the league could then be readjustrd with four teams relagated for the next two seasons.

Norfolk Saint

1.) 02 Apr 2020 22:13:00
The premier League has to be completed to get the TV rights. It's part of the obligation.

{Ed002's Note - No.}

2.) 17 Apr 2020 19:34:28
Ed's could you please give your insight on the situation, there's a lot of changing stories about whether it will or will not be completed. A more insightful explanation would be greatly appreciated on TV rights, finishing of the the season, and what is likely to happen please.

{Ed002's Note - Right now the Premier League want to find a way to complete the season and they are aware of options available if they can't. There are also aware of a further potential major issue which is why they are reluctant to make any statement or allow the matter to be discussed at this time.

There is no suggestion to simply void the season on the table. And I think it unlikely that anyone will look to go down that route.

Spain (RFEF) have decided that they will end the season, if the games cannot all be completed (whether they restart or not), by drawing a line across now, not awarding the title, and settling European places based on current positions (with the exception of the Copa del Rey place which if played will go to the winners else to Athletic Bilbao if it can't). The critical point is that if the season restarts but cannot be completed, the results revert to the standings at the start of the suspension - and the results of the games played after the restart would be voided - this is controversial as far as La Liga are concerned and they have a counter proposal that says if the games restart and then stop, those positions when it stops for a second time should stand. But the decision belongs to RFEF and typically they would overrule La Liga. Whilst they want to complete the league, they too are going to draw a June 30 line across if the games cannot start on May 28 and complete by then – although they have proposed a back stop of the end of July (but nobody wants to use it and clubs don’t wish to exercise it). They have not addressed promotion and relegation completely at this time but seem open to the two up/none down principle as others are considering.

The "Bundesliga" plan if they cannot complete the season: draw a line across; no champions; European places on current standings; top two promoted down through the leagues; no relegation this season but addition one relagated next two seasons. The approach has a lot of support.

Scotland have used the threat based model - vote for what we say and we will give you money to help you stay in business.

Belgium has gone roughly down the "Bundesliga" approach but have assigned Champions (there was a lead that could not be caught but play offs were wiped out - so Club Brugge are champions and all of the other sides agreed. This was driven by the simple desire that it could not all be completed by June 30 based on advice.

The PL is aware of all of this and if needs be will need to be bold and come up with a plan. My expectation is it will follow the "Bundesliga" approach.

There is no expectation that the broadcasters will seek payment for games not played as compensation.}

What a shambles for the first goal today BV can anyone explain who Ings didn't just head it out for a corner and what on earth was maccarthys position he was way behind the line . if the goalkeepers are going to make mistakes like this we could still get dragged back into trouble, to those who criticize Redders just note how we missed him today, must win game next week.

Norfolk Saint

1.) 16 Feb 2020 01:07:22
The reason Ings didn;t head it out for a corner was that he totally misjudged his position relative to the ball trajectory . in simple terms he thought the ball was going out for a corner! As for McCarthy . now that's a more difficult one. Maybe he had been told to guard the far post as Burnley aim for the far post 9/ 10 times. To be fair, he did exactly the same against Liverpool and scored direct from a corner:)
We struggled against Burnley's tactics as have many other clubs . ! if we get it let's hoof it up the pitch and hope for the best, may not be the best football to watch, but it catches out teams that are pressing high and trying to platy real football!

We seemed disjointed and unless it was my imagination, I am sure JWP played much deeper than lately and was a lot less productive. Stephens is growing into a top player, his running with the ball is superb. While Long and Ings play well together, Long needs to concentrate on playing football rather petty fouls, being offside and arguing with the ref!
In summary . we were awful!

2.) 16 Feb 2020 07:26:31
I believe that footballManagers’use as many smoke screens as politicians do these days. Does Ralph believe that we’ve all just got off a green bus? myself and 30000 plus Saints fans know that Vestergaard doesn’t have superior skills to Bednarek playing out of defence (even if he had the ball glued to his boots, ) My belief is that Ralph dropped Bednarek for criticising Saints attack for not being ruthless enough (especially when he himself is partly responsible for the shocking goals against record) . If this were true whilst a reprimand is justified risking 3 pts is not worth it when we don’t have adequate cover. KOM.

3.) 18 Feb 2020 16:28:02
Vestergaard was played over Bednarek because of his height would have been an advantage against Burnley’s attack

Same reason why Yoshida would get played at right back against teams who’d lump it forward rather than play it on the ground.

4.) 19 Feb 2020 04:21:57
I. don’t recall Ralph’s comments referring to Vestergaard’s height as the main reason for selecting him in preference to Bednarek against Burnley. KOM.

5.) 19 Feb 2020 04:55:59
I trust we will sign a competent centre back with all the required skills in the Summer rather than a seven foot tall player who has much less ability. KOM.

Just watched our latest loss, what is wrong with our defenders couldn't handle Antonio all game, saved from a heavier defeat by bar, feel sorry for ings when is he going to get some quality support.

Norfolk Saint

1.) 14 Dec 2019 21:30:20
There just doesn't seem to be anyone willing to make a through pass, or have a shot from distance (for the chance/ threat of being booed or jeered) - The players are not performing, but isn't that the job of the manager to turn around?

I'm starting to wonder whether Ralph's ideas are not suited to the Prem or possibly just our team - If the board ever decided to make a change, they could do a lot worse than Garry Monk with James Beattie as his assistant (#SaintsDreamTeam)

2.) 14 Dec 2019 23:23:30
Redmond today almost single handedly lost us the first half! he was awful! he held the ball too long, his distribution was awful, he slowed the play down, he gave the ball away, he didn't track back, he was ball watching for long periods! it's time he was sent out on loan to rediscover his form - he couldn't dribble past a lamppost!

Ok the rest . Hoejbjerg was terrible! his passing, his positional play, his distribution, Not sure he's had a good game in a while]

JWP definitely prefers the number 10 role and plays much better in that role.

The defence . they bullied the two CB's . and they won the fight. We needed Vestergaard out there and he should have been brought on to add some height and strength.

Why was Djenepo on the right when moved to the left much more dangerous.

Ings and Long - still believe that is a good partnership.

We need Boufal back - adds another dimension

Romeu was good today, much more dynamic, much more positive,

Yes we were caught on the break several times - 8/ 10 were due to terrible distribution/ caught in possession .
2/ 10 was due to good play by WHU

So where does that leave us. When we play to win we are much better. Redmond has to be dropped now. What is the point of having Long running around at great speed waiting for balls, Ings taking up great positions . if no one is going to pass to them!

Djenepo on the left, Boufal anywhere you like . Ings and Long up front getting service .

play Yoshida . better reader of the game, more aggression, better passer and tackler .

3.) 16 Dec 2019 21:07:31
Think a lot of the problem in defence are two full back who go forward but have to wait for the bus to get back. Would have defenders in defence.

4.) 17 Dec 2019 22:26:56
Listen Up Ralph! Saints supporters suggested team/ s to face Villa are on the money. Have You GOT THE BALLS this time? Good Luck now and 2020! Keep On Marching.

Great performance today special praise for Danny ings it is imperative that we keep him and build a team around him, good to see JWP taking a starring roll today, only downside was not keeping a clean sheet as we managed to loose a goal to a very poor Watford team.

I totally agree with SaintUs the right back slot is a real problem is there any value in getting Nathan Clyne back he is being released by Liverpool, Also still think that we have a problem with our goalkeepers none of them are really top class, if Bournemouth go down we could go for their keeper Ramsdale who looks a very good prospect.

Just like to agree with south hants rich would like to see Adams get a run in the team instead of long, if Adams can be a success not only do we have another valuable asset but also another example of the Southampton way of buying young players and developing them, good to see Valery back yesterday although his mistake was what cost us the game overall I thought it he had a good game on his first start for a while, on the subject of the club being sold let's hope for two things firstly we keep the management team and second we develop the ground as we are falling back to being one of the smaller stadium in the league, I for cast that we could easily fill a 40 thousand ground certainly for the big games, it would also allow people to see the team the team on a one off basis as obtaining tickets is currently quite a pain.

Great effort from the 10 men today and great to see our goalie having a much better game although this was helped by some very poor Newcastle finishing looking forward to next Saturday I hope we have one or more of our injured players back as we still are not creating or scoring enough, we do need our midfielders to chip in with a few as although we are looking more solid we are still losing to many games that we should take points from finally good to see the ref using the pitch side monitor even though it went against us on this occasion.

In response to other texters I am not sure that west ham bullied us more likely they wanted it more it looked like they were desperate for the points as they saw us as the most winnable game in there next four games . I couldn't make out Ralph's tactics as once again we allowed Antonio to have the freedom to run us ragged as he had done at Saint Mary's, we also had two right backs on the bench whilst playing JWP out of position, if neither of them are either fit enough or good enough what are they doing there.

Norfolk Saint

1.) 01 Mar 2020 20:29:36
My thoughts too Norfolk Saint. JWP should play his natural game unlocking defences and putting the ball in for our strikers. Why waste his talent playing in defence when we had not 1 but 2 right sided defenders on the bench. Also bringing on Vestergaard and Romeu when we were in need of goals seemed a strange move.

2.) 02 Mar 2020 05:11:57
Following Saints shocking display at West Ham last week-end I guess that Ralph’s summer required short list has just grown an awful lot longer! KOM.

3.) 02 Mar 2020 08:03:26
After watching the highlights, we couldn't cope with West Hams front 3. Bowen and Antonio gave Haller so much support. Maybe we weren't bullied but in all of the instances Haller was too strong for our CB's and GK. I think Stephens and Bednerak are a good pairing for our CB, dunno who else we might bring in. But if we've got Valery and KWP who can't get into the first team, we need a new RB and I haven't been convinced by Bertrand for a long time now, we need to consider replacing him.

4.) 05 Mar 2020 02:53:05
With all the recent. Speculation surrounding Hojbjerg’s future- he’s been a very average player for Saints and seasons end is a diamond opportunity to start the rebuild by recruiting some quality dynamic c. midfielder replacements and unload Hojbjerg followed by. fullbacks and centrebacks. A class goalkeeper and striker are also a requirement assuming we avoid relegation and to be funded by a payment from the EPL of approximately 100 MILLION PLUS further SFC summer sales!
