Seen a few Chinese based shirt sponsors are leaving their contracts with teams across the leagues in the UK. Do not think it will do much damage to Southampton as I'm sure we will find a new sponsor who doesn't seem to want to use us, but rather actually build something. Hope we get sold as well with all this political tension. Any thoughts?

Seen barcelona are clearing out their squad.
"They are Neto, Nelson Semedo, Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal, Ousmane Dembele and Martin Braithwaite, plus the returning Carles Alena, Rafinha Alcantara, Jean-Clair Todibo and Philippe Coutinho. "
Hopefully we get Salisu in ASAP. Todibo might be a cheapish option as well given we may need another CB. Alena is a better option than Reed in my opinion.

Todibo is the only semi-realistic one imo. Think he can play in midfield too so might be an option to replace hojbjerg
most of them, if they go, will be off to other sides in the champions league and on far higher wages than we can pay. the only player that won't be is Braithwaite and he'd probably 5th choice here.

Seen valencia are parting ways with quite a few players:
Parejo, Rodrigo, Coquelin, Kondogbia, Mangala, Diakhaby, Gameiro, Cillessen, Rubén Sobrino and Correia
I know they are for the most part old (er) but might we get one for a good price and have them succeed in our squad? Kondogbia would be a fine addition under RH I think.

Seen we might go for Rashica from Werder Bremen in the summer if they get relegated. Seems a good fit for RH and his style. Might fit behind ings or on the wing? Think we have a fair chance at signing him?

I've been reading reports that Liverpool have been looking to sign him for something like £30 Million but then again they seem to get connected to players everywhere.
{Ed002's Note - Milot Rashica (LW/RW) another possible Jadon Sancho replacement or indeed a Leroy Sane option and there is interest from both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen don't want to sell (but could be relegated). Rashica plays predominently on the left, like several of the many Sancho replacements, but is seen as versatile. Dortmund are looking at a number of possible Sancoh replacements that they have identified and others also play predominently on the left. I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool to Werder Bremen nor any declaration of interest from his agent or lawyer but it would be interesting if their were - he would certainly provide good cover for Mane.}

Apparently saints have offered €20 million for Mateta from Mainz. Scored fair amount of goals and looks like a potential Pelle type player but with a bit more pace.

Still not convinced with any of our options at RB and KWP/ valery still do not get my vote of confidence.
I know it is unlikely, but should we get sold to a wealthy individual/ group who would pump money into our club, who would be our best fit RB that is feasible?

I do like Valery, but he's not quite there yet. I wouldn't mind if we keep him playing for a couple of seasons to get him to beyond the level where we want him to be at. Clearly Ralph sees something in. Watching KWP last night, I don't think he did a bad job, that being said we dominated the second half and all of Arsenals chances came on the counter.
I know we were after Maehle from Genk. I don't know what's going on with that one know.

Comparing performances of Hojbjerg and Walker Peters against Arsenal perhaps Saints would be lucky to get a straight swap with Spurs. We were definitely lacking that cutting edge in midfield and. hopefully a potential replacement forHojbjerg. will help address that weakness whilst Walker Peters played quite well.
Upfront it continues to be a mystery why Obafemi keeps getting selected over Adams. Surely with our EPL seems almost assured Che needs serious game time in order to recapture his previous scoring ability.

Seen Hoj wants to be at a higher level club. I really hope that if we sell him to spurs, we DO NOT include player + cash, with KWP. NO WAY! Spend the money on another RB that will actually be 3x at least greater than KWP. He isn't up to the standard we should strive for, even now.

It seems Hojbjerg has an inflated self opinion of his capabilities regarding Championship aspirations and could well find himself competing in. the Danish League. This is the perfect opportunity for Saints to replace him with an upgrade for a midfield dynamo capable of influencing the whole team!

johnnyst . when i read that PEH wanted to play at a higher level, i assumed it meant he wanted to improve his own game! I saw a statistic today that he had the highest number of interceptions (i think) in the PL. What it didn't say was what he did with the ball once he had it! well it's not easy to work out . 49% backwards . 49% sidewards . and 2% forwards! so totally agree with you!

Rich/ Good to know our observations are in unison. Bayern would have never released him if he had realised his expected potential. However we can only hope that our observations will help shine a spotlight on this very important position. for the future!

Congratulations to Ralph for penning a new deal. The future looks bright being led by one of the most knowledgeable football managers’who has ever coached Southampton FC. He has achieved an attractive level of play from fairly average players. Glad to see also that he has stuck by Che Adams who has all the attributes to become a favourite star in the future given the opportunity and rub of the green!

Did realize the transfer window opened in about 2 weeks. Think we should sign a fairly young but experience striker, new rb, cb, and sell some midfielders and get someone more experienced.

What midfielders would you sell? I think our midfield is our strongest area and the players we have their currently are a great mix of youth, experience and offer different qualities.
I agree a rb, cb and striker are priorities and then it depends who we sell from the loan players and maybe we will add another winger with pace?
Looking forward to it tbh.
One thing I did think of today that worried me though. how long has hojbjerg got left on his contract? If it's anything less than 3 years we need to sign him up on someth8ng long term and probably a wage increase. My favourite player in the squad.

CM is going to be packed if we don't offload some
Keep --> Romeu, Hojbjerg, JWP, Lemina, Slattery, possibly Reed
Sell/ Loan --> Clasie, Lemina if we get a huge offer
There's also Rowthorn, Smallbone, Hale and Hamblin in the u23's who are about ready for first team football
Hopefully sell Hoedt and Cedric. Like to see Boufal and Carrilo given at least pre season
Decent CB to compete with Yoshida (if we're playing 3 at the back again) and back up RB and we'll be sorted tbh

Hojbjerg signed a 5 year in 2016, haven't seen anything since about a renewal so potentially runs out in 2021 - agree it needs extending though, don't think that will be an issue - seems to love it here.

Gareth bale seems to be out of Madrid either permanently or out on loan, maybe we can take him on loan for half or a quarter of his wages and he can say it is as a thank you to Southampton for making him who he is haha. Probably not.

Mitrovic is there best player but I dkntnthinknhed actually suit how Ralph wants to play. I was thinking cairney but to be honest they're whole squad looks terrible. I wouldn't be interested in any of them now. Same with Huddersfield. mooy is there best player but is he better than what we have? No.

It dumb to accept that but may not have another option to cash in on PEH. Was hoping we would do something like at least $10 million + KWP not pretty much a straight swap. I hope we still get another RB in as I am (probably in the minority) who doesn't think KWP will solve our RB problems.

Really hope we keep onto him. KWP is young and might do okay. or might just do nothing which is good we are only getting him on loan. Letting Cedric go especially right now midseason is a huge mistake and we will regret it.

I am from the USA so not really able to go to in person games at St. Mary's.
I have watched, on TV/ internet, most if not all available saints games since 2015.
Never been to an in person game but I am still young and saving to go after C.V. slows down (hopefully) next year.
First match was in '04 Saints vs Man UTD in the FA cup I believe. I Was 10 at the time! Saints have been my favorite team since.
Most historic was that 8-0 win against Sunderland.
Favorite player would be Lambert/ Mane.
No favorite current player.

Yeah I also don't think the formation suits us well. I think 4-3-3 is our best formation with either a defending CM or attacking CM.

On another note almost done with the season, wonder if we win the last 2 games if we may end up finishing 10th.
