Vestergaard fee agreed £18 million, should be done before the end of the week.

think he's having his medical today. looks like a decent player. went to the WC for denmark although he didn't play any games.

We're after Angus Gunn from Manchester City to provide back up and competition for McCarthy. Expect Forster to be off very soon.

bailey

1.) 28 Jun 2018 21:39:22
That would be a really good move if it comes off. I watched him quite a lot in training with Man City and he seemed to be better than their first choice at that time which was Bravo. He is really agile and a class shot stopper and would provide some good competition for McCarthy.

Amadou Haidara of Red Bull Salzburg is a target apparently, £15mil being quoted.

1.) 21 Jun 2018 06:33:53
Just penned a new deal two weeks ago. Not happening.

2.) 21 Jun 2018 10:46:32
That means nothing! just means we will have to pay full whack to get him! I think I'm right in saying that Van Dyke had only just signed a new deal? !

3.) 22 Jun 2018 16:27:43
Van Prick left a year and a half after he signed a contract extension, not after two weeks!

4.) 22 Jun 2018 22:16:03
Clubs have been known to get players to sign new deals, in order to sell them!

19 Jun 2018 07:49:49
According to reports we want Jack Wilshere.

bailey

1.) 19 Jun 2018 08:06:47
Several other clubs want him, too. So, he won't be joining us.

2.) 19 Jun 2018 19:30:30
Wouldn't be to sure! Apparently He likes the South coast . i would love to see him down here, Him and Tadic competing for the attacking midfielder role (central) (reference to my earlier post :) ) Wouldn't play him as a deep laying midfielder, behind the front TWO. Has to be Two upfront for me.

3.) 20 Jun 2018 11:21:30
Are you saying you'd bring Wilshere in as a Playmaker/ Creative option? I always thought he was more of a box-box midfielder?

4.) 20 Jun 2018 12:51:30
Yes Ben, He has played various roles, I just think as a playmaker would suit him and more inportantly Us! :)

5.) 20 Jun 2018 13:09:21
SaintBen i think we are all armchair Saints managers :) I would play 5-2-1-2 when in possession wing backs pushing up to give width, and reverting to 5-3-1-1 when not. So Wilshire? / Tadic behind front two when we have the ball.
Time for me to be slated :)

6.) 20 Jun 2018 14:29:43
I've always thought he had a good eye for a pass, and if he could keep injury free and have consistency in a Number 10 role, then why not? I suppose it all comes down to the Wages and Signing on fee. No doubting though with consistency he's a £20-£30m player all day long.

7.) 20 Jun 2018 16:24:57
I mentioned a couple of times here that I fancy hughes to utilise a back three in a 3-4-1-2 or, as you say it, 5-2-1-2, which is just another name for it I guess, depends on how you see the wingback role. Tadic, sorry. Blows hot and cold too much. He popped up just in time last season when we desperately needed him but where was he all season? And Wilshere behind two forwards? I can't judge that because I don't watch him that much to feel qualified to judge his best style. After all, armchair manager here lol. However, we don't need more centr midfielders as we currently have six battling for two spots with clasie and reed coming back. An upgrade on Tadic is always welcomed in my book.

8.) 21 Jun 2018 13:57:37
How about Lemina in that role? agree with everything you said about Tadic. explosive and can defend from the front. I really think he is going to become a Star!

22 Mar 2018 13:22:07
Linked today with Shaqiri for £20mil, feel like this is very much 2 + 2 = 5.

bailey

1.) 22 Mar 2018 20:49:03
I would love to see him at the club. He has some amazing talent and is very dynamic. Just what the team needs.

2.) 23 Mar 2018 15:08:28
Tadic shaq swap.

3.) 24 Mar 2018 06:13:51
Both absolutely inconsistent.

4.) 24 Mar 2018 08:41:53
Great individual player but certainly hasn’t got a team mentality from what I’ve seen.
I wouldn’t want him.

5.) 24 Mar 2018 17:10:36
It’s a nothing rumour IMO. Start s with the Star and only linked due to working with Hughes who as things stand may not be here next season.

I see BT Sport have linked us with Paulo Fonseca, think he could do a job for us. Rodgers I don't see happening, think he'll be aiming higher. Bilic is a massive no from me. Hughes is an even bigger no from me. Mancini is wishful thinking. Redknapp. don't make me laugh. Allardyce very much doubt Everton would let him go so late on. Jokanovic I rate but doubt Fulham would let him leave. Vieira I very much doubt. Howe is just not happening. Silva could do a job for us too but think he may get a bit too big for his boots again if he does well.
Would like please Les - Fonseca, Rodgers, Mancini, Jokanovic, Howe or Silva
No thank you Les - Bilic, Hughes, Allardyce, Redknapp and Vieira.

bailey

1.) 13 Mar 2018 06:26:53
Saints want Joko. Question is can we pride him away?
Am glad we didn’t spend the Van Stryk money now: going to need it for oidles of compo and then some! Get him I’m in now.

2.) 13 Mar 2018 23:01:59
I'd take Allardyce any day.
Howe, Jokanovic, Mancini (not going to happen), Fonseca - yes please.
Bilic, Rodgers, Vieira, Silva - good not great.
Hughes, Redknapp - Oh god no.

07 Jun 2017 19:03:01
Liverpool end interest in Virgil, apologise to owners, board of directors and fans of Southampton. Nice to see the board actually stand firm for once! Hopefully we can get another season out of Virgil but I'd imagine next summer he'll have even bigger clubs calling!

1.) 07 Jun 2017 19:48:55
LFC very embarrassing. What a debacle: looks like Kloppo has a lot to do with this and may well be in trouble: VVD needs to do a lot of grovelling now.

2.) 07 Jun 2017 20:47:25
I don't think VVD needs to do any grovelling at all. Why, what has he done wrong? There has been paper talk and speculation but nothing concrete and official from him.

3.) 07 Jun 2017 21:12:17
I hope not Cyorussaintbut no smoke without fire. Either way he needs to come out and fully commit to the club now to put to bed any doubts in the fans minds. His agent will doubtless be most to blame,

4.) 07 Jun 2017 21:55:55
He's changed his twitter bio: looks like he's furious to me.

5.) 07 Jun 2017 22:36:10
He changed it back pretty quickly.

6.) 08 Jun 2017 06:38:34
Hi Eds. Do you think the manager situation will be resolved this week for sure as this must be unsettling the players.
Also how serious is this for Liverpool now?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know what will happen with the manager now. I was expecting him to be removed, but the end of season review has given the club pause. The circumstances regarding Jose Fonte and how it unsettled the squad has been raised as mitigating circumstances. It has been explained how upset the players were and that a lot of work had to be done to get their heads back into playing for Saints. However, my personal opinion is that Puel will still be removed, they were actively seeking a replacement prior to the meeting. I doubt that anything other than being unable to attract the right replacement would stop his removal to be honest.

As for Liverpool, it should be very serious, due to the previous instances they have been involved in. However, in this instance, they have put forward a defence which Saints might well accept. It really does depend on if Soton push it, which seems unlikely as they would then have difficulties of their own to contend with. The business model being based on recruiting players who are looking to use Saints as a stepping stone to Champions League clubs is already struggling due to the Fonte situation. That created a lot of unrest in the squad, most of whom have promises that they would be allowed to leave if a CL club came in for them. When Saints fought so hard to keep Fonte, it made them wonder how much store they could set by the promises they were given. They are not there as the culmination of a dream, they are there as a step towards a dream and they were shocked that the club stopped Fonte making his dream a reality. Especially when he ended up in limbo and only moving to West Ham.

Anyway, back to the question, if Saints pursue it, then there is a very real possibility LFC get a transfer ban, though it is unlikely as their claim is that they were led to believe VVD had the Saints' blessing to discuss a summer move. Hence the swift apology and talk of a 'misunderstanding'.}

7.) 08 Jun 2017 06:58:41
Wow thank you Ed for a very detailed response. Shall await developments with interest.

{Ed001's Note - you are very welcome.}

8.) 08 Jun 2017 11:42:14
Ed, that is the first sensible thing I've tead re Fonte and Virgil to LFC. Thank you.

{Ed001's Note - thank you.}

9.) 08 Jun 2017 15:36:29
Can someone explain the story about Fonte please?
Do I take it Fonte wanted to go to Liverpool?

{Ed001's Note - no Man Utd in the summer, but his move was blocked as Saints wanted him to stay. He felt that he should be allowed to make what he saw as a dream move and that he had shown the club a lot of loyalty by rejecting offers to stay with Saints previously.

The club felt they were short at centre back and wanted him to stay another couple of seasons to allow Stephens to develop.

I can see both sides to be fair, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Fonte at his age, but the club needed him and were well within their rights to reject offers for him. However it was handled badly and relations between club and Fonte broke down completely in the January window with Saints refusing to deal with United and Fonte forced a move out just to get out.

Shame as it was not a nice way for him to end his time with Saints, but I can understand why Southampton did not want him to go to United, as they were unhappy with the public pursuit. If United had been willing to pay up, then it would have ended more cordially but they were not willing to pay what Soton wanted due to Fonte's age.}

10.) 08 Jun 2017 16:20:55
Thanks Ed001.
That explains why he got arsey.
How much was Saints looking to get for him, and how much did Manchester United offer?

{Ed001's Note - I don't know mate, it is not worth getting into that because the payment terms are complex and lots of clauses can alter the amount by a significant margin.}

11.) 08 Jun 2017 16:41:23
Again Ed, very through thank you very much.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome HES.}

Semedo gone Villarreal.

31 Jan 2017 23:13:28
Extremely disappointing to see Sakho go to Palace on loan, would have been a great signing. Perhaps Palace agreed to cover the entirety of his weekly wage. Can't imagine us paying his full wage, believed to be just over £100,000 a week. Hopefully Les has something up his sleeve we don't have a clue about.

bailey

1.) 01 Feb 2017 07:01:40
Nope he didn't. We are still desparatly short on defenders

2.) 01 Feb 2017 09:43:16
Why pay massively over the odds for a CB now? Yoshida has been every bit as good, if not better than Fonte was. Stephens has proven himself to be capable cover, Gardos is back albeit a bit rusty. It's not like we've got one defender. So why not wait until the summer and get a better player/ better deal on the same player.

Sakho hasn't played all season, why not let palace take the risk, pay his (huge) wages and £2 million on top of that and then go and get him in the summer if he doesn't flop?

3.) 01 Feb 2017 12:11:23
Saints were never going to get sakho his wages would have made him our highest earner 105,000 pw so that was never going to happen plus the scouser won't sell to us (one way street) .
Saints have only really spent the mane money 34m on boufal and gabbi so in theory we still got 8m from pelle and 8m from fonte (I know we got redmon but he was coming here anyway before we sold anyone) so why didn't we spend on a half decent CD because that's our week point now we've hopefully got a goalscorer.

{Ed001's Note - Liverpool would happily sell to Saints. Pointless throwaway and ignorant remark there.}

4.) 01 Feb 2017 20:00:04
Yeah ed they would sell to us if we were mug enough to pay more than they paid for him 20m a lot for someone they want of their payroll so you are right but really?

{Ed001's Note - and they have ended up stuck with him coming back at the end of the season, so what is your point? It was one price being quoted to everyone, you weren't singled out.}

30 Oct 2016 19:54:36
Any news on any potential transfers out of the club? Players like Clasie, Martina etc. need to leave asap. Not good enough and don't try hard enough.

bailey

{Ed002's Note - Right now, no. It would be speculative.}

1.) 30 Oct 2016 22:46:45
well that's rubbish both work their socks off.

2.) 31 Oct 2016 08:39:42
I agree they both try however martina was shocking yesterday this could be to do with Chelsea sitting deep and hazards movement clause isn't as good as he can be consistently and to me I'd rather see reed who is as good younger and through the club. Cynical master class form Chelsea u felt yesterday never seen so many fouls and no card thought we didn't get the breaks but always in the back foot after first goal.

3.) 31 Oct 2016 12:22:36
Everyone has an off game, it's no reason to sell them.

Clasie seems to be getting the Guily/ Wanyama/ Yoshida treatment. Not sure why though 'cause he works his *ss off and is actually very good.

4.) 31 Oct 2016 17:43:58
Martina : plays side wards and back way too much. I am not sure if he just hasn't the pace to go round the defender, or the thought process to. On the left, Bertrand, Targett and McQueen all make every effort to get to the byline. Cedric also drives as much as possible to the byline . and we mustn't forget Pied.
Classie : He is a worker and his distribution is good, but is he good enough. I don't think so. Harrison R is certainly no worse, is quicker and I think sees the pass much quicker.
What we have to decide is, are we going to try and achieve Europe through the League or through the European route. By not playing Hojbjerg we are definitely NOT playing out strongest team, so I assume he will play Thursday . I hope!
Our manager has immense European experience, and the rotation of squads . but he has to be careful that we end up failing in all competitions.

Santos bid is £10mil plus £2mil in add ons. Carillo will sign for Leganes on loan for the season. Boufal transfer or loan it doesn’t matter the club just want him gone. Forster I don’t see Celtic or any championship club paying his reported £90,000 a week wages. I did hear that Fenerbache were interested in him though so that may be a possibility.

Hoedt and Stephens starters with Maya as back up, one or two injuries and Bednarek is starting, from what I’ve seen of him so far that won’t be working very well in the Prem. Of course we need to address the situation up front however another CB is key in my opinion.
