Hi Ed's, do you know if Southampton are following any of the free agents available admittedly they're mostly injury prone players but there's some great talent amongst the list. I know there was paper talk about one or two of them before they were released and wondered if it was just that please.

{Ed002's Note - Not so sure about the freebies. There are half a dozen post deadline possible transfers to the Premier League - but again not so sure.}

Thanks for the reply.

So I've heard a word of mouth rumour, Sam allardyce has been spotted in southampton with possible view to a move to us if Claude Puel is sacked. Not sure if I believe this one I like allardyce as manager bit not what our club needs in my opinion and would rather puel have more time.

Does anyone have anything else on this, is this probably just a rumour?

No thanks we ain't in a religation battle YET.

2.) 23 May 2017 21:23:30
He has said he just wants to spend time with his family.

3.) 24 May 2017 09:44:51
I think you've made this one up yourself.

4.) 24 May 2017 12:59:20
He was in Southampton for a friends wedding, no more!

5.) 24 May 2017 23:20:48
Saintysaintsaint I clearly asked a question. It's a rumour site. That's what this site is for. Thank you ozz for clarifying my original question. Not that it was needed after allardyces retirement. It's nice to a been proven that he was spotted in southampton also.

6.) 25 May 2017 18:16:03
He has left Palace with a caveat that if he signs for another PL club within 2 years that CP will be due 2m. Perhaps in 2 years time (or 3 managers time) we will take him.

7.) 25 May 2017 20:37:32
He got £2m for leaving Sunderland (saving them), £1m on leaving the England post and £2m as a bonus for saving Palace. He'll be okay for a few bob - didn't Poch have to pay £2m to us out of his own pocket to join Spuds?

8.) 28 May 2017 13:47:13
I can't see him leaving a premier league club just to pay 2m out of his own pocket to join another premier league club personally. I don't think he is much better than Puel myself anyway. Good coach, but not great.

Keep seeing online about mauro icardi being linked with Saints. I don't know if it's false or recycled or what it is. Has anyone heard anything else on this?

So I've heard a rumour that our new manager Pellergrini will be announced tomorrow with the official unveiling set to be on the 1St. Anyone shed any light on this?

sfcphill

1.) 22 Jun 2016 16:58:54
From whom did you hear this rumour? Seems strange that you are the only person spreading it which would suggest that this person has confided in you and no one else . Very odd as rumours spread quickly but obviously not this one.

2.) 22 Jun 2016 19:01:42
Was just word of mouth there wasn't real evidence behind it. Hence asking if anyone could shed any light on it. Was a posted question bot a bold statement.

3.) 22 Jun 2016 20:24:54
The 1st would tie in with his contract at City. Expires the last day of June.

4.) 22 Jun 2016 20:33:58
I know what you mean especially when this whole thing is dragging on. No offence meant phill, honest .

Hi eds,
Has there been anymore information on hernandez? Not really keen on taking on another striker who isn't perticularly keen on playing for us but the rumours have been floating about. If as reported is true about the wage bill inter were offering for van persie. I'm sure it was between 60-80k a week (15m per year) would that not be a cheeky signing worth a punt? Neither Milan club finished perticularly high in the league. As far as offering European football goes neither can do that.

sfcphill

{Ed002's Note - Putting aside your appalling mathematics; Inter, Dortmund, Spurs, Monaco, Southampton, West Ham, Lazio, Stoke and Everton have a declared interest in Javier Hernandez. If the price is reasonable then Galatasaray could revive their previous interest. His agent has said there is interest in the United States as well. I understand that Manchester United are looking to offer Hernandez to a Spanish side as part of a deal for another player.

Right now, I wouldn't hold your breath.}

1.) 15 Jun 2015 11:16:27
Sorry I do apologise was a long night shift last night. The figure was around £4.6m a year I actually saw. Which is close to 90k a week. Was trying to find the original article online, however it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Most journalism seems to be recycled with different words. Like copying your mates homework back in the day haha. Thanks for the reply though 😊

{Ed002's Note - No problem Phill.}

This isn't a rumour so I do apologise but benteke''s buy out clause must be causing a massive stir up for villa. For Saint''s to buy him would be a massive statement of ambition. Does anybody have any genuine ideas of our top targets this summer, edds maybe? What with European football probable surely we need to really strengthen the squad. We have a good first 11 but I can't help but think along the same lines as what benali said in the echo today.

sfcphill

{Ed002's Note - I can tell you players I am aware of Southampton having looked at or enquired after but I cannot answer anything about "top targets". My experience from this page last year makes me reluctant to give any detail.}

1.) 29 May 2015 17:21:52
After last year Ed 002 I don't blame you. I think that it's best to wait and see anyway as Saints usually surprise everyone by buying someone that nobody thought of.

2.) 29 May 2015 17:22:12
is his buy out cluse not 30m+? no thanks. would be a massive statement of "yeh we have lost the plot".

3.) 29 May 2015 20:57:50
Prices us out. I'm intrigued from David Gold's statement today that West Ham will be making a "big signing" soon. As they are one of the main teams we are competing against outside the top 6, anything they can do we should be doing better!

4.) 29 May 2015 22:12:03
Shame to say I had to get off my high saints horse becuase we can't offer the same money as west ham can offer

5.) 29 May 2015 23:39:15
A big signing, interesting, could that be related to them bringing in a top manager?

6.) 30 May 2015 10:40:18
Think you will find Wet Spam make the same comment every time season ticket sales are underway!

Think we just have to trust in the recruitment it's all well and good saying about our signings not being tried tested and good enough but we've scouted these players and I'm sure our scouts have a much more accurate opinion of these players than our rants. The truth is we look likely to go down. There's some real quality in our squad and up until the last three games it's not quite clicked. I think a massive bid for takam moffi would have been my route and a second player in attacking midfield but we know nothing about these players we're bringing in. Let's just get behind them and Jones and we can put our 10 pence in at the end of the season. Our fate is in the hands of our staff and players so let's do our bit and support the decisions they make until its certain we will stay up or go down. It's easy to throw mud when things aren't going well but that's when our support is needed most. COYR

Two of those players should have started and the other two aren't going to set the world alight.

Ralph doesn't buy the players there's a whole team behind the scenes. We are buying championship players, how can you expect more than championship football. Don't forget players like vestergard and Bertrand were available this window. Talk of zouma being available. Tammy, loftus cheek, the ox. Our board sanctioned our players in not the manager, they failed to keep the stars we had. Ralph isn't the best at making subs but we also have nothing of value to bring on except hope.

No but we wasted money on players like Hoedt, Carrillo, Osvaldo, boufal, Gunn, lemina just off the top of my head and that's money we can't ever recouperate. Loan to buy definitely the way forward. If we pay 5m extra for a player it's better than their whole price tag to be a flop. Do you not agree?

Alderweirald wasn't a failure he was brilliant for us just unfortunate that he was also a higher class of player than our clubs financial standing and Tottenham could offer him a closer to his goals than we could.

You're off your trolley, if you really want to know how good our youngsters are look at the results, where we are in the youth leagues. Go see how well they are doing there and then decide if they can fit in.

The problem isn't Ralph at all. It's the squad he has at his disposal, we had a defensive crisis midway through the season and the team confidence took a massive hit. In my opinion we haven't recovered from. We play well most weeks but can't come away with the points unless ings is playing. It's got nothing to do with the manager. He should instruct his players to have a go at goal more a forward passing rather than coming home all the time admittedly but you are crazy if you think there is better out there on our budget. It's people like you who got Claude peul fired and he finished 8th and took us to a final.

Have a bit more loyalty in your club and people at it. We've seen lately about fan revolts she to ESL but without that squad and coaches we don't have a team to watch. Stop being so negative and get behind them. Due to finances we're a team that can only afford to avoid relegation each season but have been over achieving for years.

I don't think it's that tadic hasn't been good enough sometimes as he's putting balls in the box. There's just no target man. Gabbiadini was thriving on those low crosses when he first came in. At the moment with have redmond taking factor many shots when he couldn't he a barn door. The tactics and forwards don't suit tadic being on the pitch.

It's like he's trying to pick his strongest team on paper each week instead of using player strengths. He never seems to change much either when it's clearly not working. Looking at our run of games and the points difference to relegation zone I think we could likely be around that drop zone come the new year. This isn't a doom a gloom post I genuinely believe we fudged up changing manager.
