In the summer saints will move for James McCarthy, Davide Astori, Arturo Vidal and Lorenzo Insigne. Expect Southampton to spend big this summer as it is now widely known that Nicola Cortese hopes to push for champions league over the coming seasons. Also Omar Rowe and Harrison Reed will make the step up to the first team as the 16 year olds have been fast tracked through the academy much like chamberlain, shaw and ward-prowse in recent seasons.

As much as I would love it can't see vidal signing for saints

Agree4 Disagree4

I honestly do not think this has too much substance as a series of rumours, can't see us taking Vidal off of Juve and I doubt we'd be in for MacArthur. I know Cortese has the ambition for Europe but those players seem very unlikely to me specifically.

Agree4 Disagree2

That would be amazing pushing for the champions league in a few seasons time, it's nice to be very ambitious but you have to look at the teams fighting for the champions league now. It is possible though, look at Everton (with a limited budget) up until recently have been pushing for 4th, a bit far off now. For now though, I'm just happy to be where we belong. In the premiership! A win Saturday and Wigan and villa lose we are safe, as Wigan and villa are yet to play each other, which means at least one of them will not beable to catch us! COYR!

Agree9 Disagree3

What evidence are you basing this on?

Agree4 Disagree1

I'd take McCarthy, he's still young and wasted at Wigan he's got talent. Astori I'm sick of hearing about so whatever happens happens. Vidal would be incredible but it won't happen he plays for one of the top teams in the world and if he were ever to move we wouldn't stand a chance. Insigne I've not seen much of this season so hard to judge but better out there I think. I'd expect more Spanish league influence due to MP but inevitably Cortese will delve into Italy. As for Harrison Reed and Omar Rowe I'm not sure where that's come from, when Bale, Ox, Walcott, Shaw and JWP all came through we knew about it a couple of years before they were on the bench and then playing on the reg. I've personally not heard much about Rowe or Reed. I'd say it's more like Sinclair, Seager and Targett will move up through. Never know though.

Agree2 Disagree1

From what I've seen of the under 21 games Omar Rowe is lightning quick but nowhere near ready for the Premiership.

Agree3 Disagree1

I heard that Reed was looking like being sold off, simply wasn't considered good enough.

Agree1 Disagree2

While I love the saints. There is no way we are getting Vidal firstly juve would want around 35 million for him. IMO he is a more complete toure. Secondly his wages would be near 180 k. And finally he would probably still not want to move to us as his team could be champions league contenders next season with a few good signings. We have ambition as shown by Ramirez's signing but he came from a midtable/relegation battling Serie A side. Expect us to look towards potential instead

Agree7 Disagree1

He wouldn't cost 35 million, more like 20, that's a reasonable price for one of the richest clubs in europe who will finish mid table or possibly higher, it still makes me laugh that a team who beat liverpool, chelsea, man city, drew with teams like arsenal and swansea are considered a small team, when will people realise that the game is dictated by money and producing grade a youth players, both of wich southampton have bags of?

st stuie

Agree5 Disagree6

St Stuie, whilst I would love to consider us a big club, just because we beat a few big teams we are still a mid table club. Yes we have the ambition and resources to get there but let's not get ahead of ourselves!

Either way, there is no chance of us signing Vidal, the others we stand a decent chance, and as for the youngsters, the above poster was correct about the likes of Sinclair, Targett will come through before Reed and Rowe.

Vidal is down the pecking order at juve now behind Pogba, pirlo and marchisio so I can actually see a way for this to happen. As for Insigne WOW did a quick search and he sounds very good. His youtube vid is worth a watch!

Agree3 Disagree5

^wow Insigne looks a very good player, let's hope we get him!

Agree3 Disagree1

Vidal down the pecking order? he plays week in week out unless injuried wow

Agree4 Disagree0

Vidal is one of the first names on the team sheet. I have no idea what you're on about. He's regarded as one of their best players and with Pirlo nearing retirement they will keep him.

i don't know weather your an arm chair suporter that "listens to the games on the radio" or just someone that hasn't a clue how a football team both opperates and is run, or are even a saints fan yourself, in around 32 years of supporting saints and going to the majority of the games I can safely say that this is the best performing saints team ever assembled, add to that that there are only about 4 teams above us that have spent longer in the premier league, and that we have the best rated youth system in england and a grade a training facilty AND brand new stadium AND no debt AND BILLIONAIRE OWNERS i'd say that makes us a massive club unless of course your an person

st stuie

Agree3 Disagree0

St Stuie, I have had a season ticket for 25 years so most definately not an armchair supporter. Yes we have excellent foundations, in youth and training setup, but what I am saying is there are plenty of other clubs bigger than us with excellent youth and training facilities. I am not saying we won't get there but I am saying we are not there yet! Man United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern = Massive Clubs, we are currently mid-table playing well potentially cabable of pushing for a Europa League spot next season. Vidal is a player on good wages more than capable, should he desire to leave Juve, of getting another very good club in the Champions League on ridiculous wages. All the same I am very proud of the club and believe we will get there one day.

Mike

Agree2 Disagree0

Ok Saints fans this is getting ridiculous again, your'e making us look bad, we're not going to sign Vidal from the soon to be Italian Champions and Champions league Quarter Finalists, other seem possible, Mcarthy is a very good player and is likely if Wigan are relegated

Agree6 Disagree0

Mike

i think your missing the point mate, there are definatly clubs with more silver wear sure, but were not far off any team on the pitch in our league, belive it or not some players enjoy playing football in attacking teams that score a lot of goals (us) besides we pay huge wages now anyway

also vidal is a good player but not worth 20 -35 million

Had a look round the usual places, and noticed that 3 names are repeatedly cropping up for serious and very real interest from Southampton. Doesn't guarantee any offers or any like but the interest is genuine.

Radja Nainggolan
Trent Sainsbury
Ludovic Sane

Personally I'm most hopeful on Sainsbury.

Will we get Nectar points if we buy Sainsbury!

Bet Mr Sainsbury has never heard that joke before. Puts me in mind of the monty python sketch (I am that old) about Mr Smoketoomuch.
