I know it's only paper talk but it's nice to read some positive news, let's hope Clyne does sign a new contract!!

Maybe he's looked at what has happened to the players that moved away last year and decided that he's better off staying put

It took him some while playing regular first team in the Premiership for WOY to notice him. He is now England first choice.
It has taken WOY the same sort of time to notice Ryan (although most of the "experts" have seen Ryan as the best English left back this season).
And where is Luke?

Clyne should take a hard look at this. Is he motivated by money or is he serious about his career? Yes, money and agents talk for some players but he does need to be careful. If he ends up at another club and has a set back he will "disappear".

I think Clyne has shown he's serious about his career by turning down Man United to join Saints three years ago, because he knew his development would be hampered if he didn't play regularly.

Now he's established himself as one of the Premier League's best right backs, become England's first choice right back, he knows his stock is high enough that anyone who wants to sign him will be doing so with the intention of making him a starter.

Man United don't have a right back. The vacancy is there. I think they're a realistic destination for Clyne and in keeping with his clear-headed approach to his career progression - a bigger club where he'll continue to play regularly.

I'd love him to stay, but I just don't think that's likely.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United have certainly considered Clyne and Coleman but they are looking at others as well.}

Clyne is a good defender, but not that good at delivering the ball into the box. Pelle scored a cracking header from a Shane Long cross from the right against Spurs. I don't recall Clyne delivering too many balls of that quality in the last couple of seasons. If the price is right sell him and buy a more complete right back.

Qwertyell-one word answer to your post-Shaw!

Luke was the England LB for the next 10-15 years. Now?

Clyne may go but he does need to be careful. He is not good enough yet that he will play week in week out at another club and that could set his career back. Big money might make him take that risk, but if that turns out to be his motivation the squad will be stronger without.

Clyne is one of ( if not) the best right back in the premier league and has improved greatly since coming to us from crystal palace. Has been a great squad player and who can blame him if he could secure champions league football which is something we can't give him at the moment. Love to see Saints retain him but we will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure is Koeman will have a replacement lined up that will will be capable of doing a like for like job. Great to see Jay Rodrigues back in training with the first team and wouldn't it be great to see him back in action possibly against Man City in the last game of the season.COYR's

Saint Martin - Shaw had just one season under his belt. It always looked like he jumped ship too early while he was still wet behind the ears. But that's his problem now.

Clyne's a well established senior player with bags of experience - a proven Premier League performer over a longer period, not some flash in the pan kid.

He'll walk into the United side. His only competition would be Antonio Valencia, for goodness sake. Frankly, he'd be a better all round defender than any of the clowns they've currently got right across the back line.

As for being confident Koeman has a like for like replacement lined up (Paddysketch), I'm not so sure. There's a dearth of high quality right backs around at the moment, which is part of the reason Clyne's stock is so high. A couple of names linked with Saints, Trippier and Byram, are, respectively, a massive downgrade and a Championship youngster who isn't even trusted to play in defence by his manager most weeks - he's spent half the season in midfield.

I'll be interested to see how it all shakes out, but by far the best outcome would be Saints hanging onto Clyne. They'll struggle to get anyone in who is remotely as good.

Sorry qwertyell, can't agree with you. Man U need to sort out their CBs and give them at least a half season to settle in before it would be sensible for Clyne to consider a move. Clyne looks good playing next to Jose-but so did Lovren!

Shaw may have been wet behind the ears but he also joined a side with rubbish CBs and his confidence was bound to suffer. Clyne is more experienced but would have the same unresolved problem

Qwertyell, I agree Clyne would walk into that Man U side without a shadow of a doubt, but they're looking at more than 1 RB, Van Der Wiel, Danilo and a few others have also been linked to them, I think the fact Les has said the that signs looks good is very positive, so we'll see I guess, also I think if he does leave we will easily be able to get a good replacement. Micah Richards is on a free transfer, I'd like to think we could reinvigorate his career as we have with Bertrands!

Agree with qwertyell that hanging get on to Clyne is of paramount importance. If we can't then I still state that Koeman will bring in another replacement that will do the job just as good if not better. Look at Bertrand in for Shaw, look at Lovrens replacement, etc., etc., Forget Trippier and Bryan - typical media rubbish. Our chairman Reed has stated that they will do all they can to keep Clyne, Schderlain, Rodrigues as we have no need to sell in fact they will fund Koeman to bring in players to achieve European football and take us to the next level within 5 years. We have management in place that are deadly serious about being a top regular sixth or better. Sit back, relax and enjoy the future to come COYR's
