Just read in the London Evening Standard that we've had a £17m bid for Slimani turned down. The player wants to supposedly leave to join us, but Sporting want nearer £25m.
Not sure how true this is?

I can't see this happening. Why would we break the bank for a 28 year old and not go for Berahino. Lazy journalism at its best me thinks!

If there is any truth in this rumour then I would say go for it. 28 years old is still young enough to give you about 2 to 3 good seasons and if he is as prolific a scorer as it seems he is why not . Pelle left not far short of his 31st birthday for a profit . He might be the sort of player who could get us into the CL ( long shot I agree ) but scoring goals is what this game is all about and what we have at the moment is a set of forwards that are not renowned as lethal finishers . We can afford it so why not. Worth a go.

Why not go for Carlos Mané as well 22yr old, we don't have to print/ buy new shirts and sell for £30m in 2 years.

Don't understand why everyone is raving about Berahino. A player that throws his toys out the pram when he doesn't have it his own way. A player that has shown no loyalty to West Brom. Sure he's a good finisher but if he did move here, a bigger club would move for him and that would be it.

I don't know or read any bid put in for Slimani. Only thing I've read is that he had put a transfer request in and £20 mill was mentioned. Everton are sniffing about as well. 6ft 2 in striker maybe 28yrs old but plenty of goals in him. Suspect that Saints wouldn't consider paying this sort of money .

Shame, a hell of a player to add to the striker department. Berahino is much younger but at 5ft 8in not a target man. Plenty of talent but temperamental . If someone gets hold of him and steers him in the right direction he could turn out to be a very good buy. Would we take the chance?

Slimani played in the Sporting friendly against Nice tonight. Looks like the transfer request was not true. Unless they're playing him to basically say "you're not going anywhere".
