Heard from someone who works at the club that regarding incomings, there will be an attacking midfielder coming in for a fee that is significantly more than the current club record. It may drag though as the selling club are playing hardball on the price, however the player himself is desperate to join.

There may also be a move for a new first choice CB, with Fonte in the doghouse over his attempt to engineer an exit through interviews in portuguese press while spinning them tales of loyalty. My contact says his behaviour is being viewed as "Koeman-like"

Fonte won't be sold, but unless they can smooth this tension over, he will be demoted to a squad player if the club can do a deal for one of their preferred targets.

Strong chance Fonte will also be stripped of the captaincy, with Steven Davis taking the position.

There shouldn't be any major outgoings. Martina may move on or loaned though as Puel does not intend on using him.

I'd rather have people at the club talk to Fonte, you know the long term players/ staff and persuade that Southampton is the best club for him.

He's first team, captain, loved by all of the fans. We've now got European League Football.

The position that he's put himself in mustn't look to great from Puels perspective. But Fontes been through the manager changes and player changes with the squad. Maybe he would have left sooner if another club had chased him a few seasons ago. But I thought he would have been loyal and it's such a shame this is happening.

But good news about new prospects.

I think saints eye is right about font he is trying to engineer a move to Salford united he's had his head turned by winning the euros and wants the big money to end his career even if it does mean warming his but on the bench all season as a squad player it's sad to say but when player's talk about loyalty it only usually lasts until they get a big money offer he has been a brilliant player for the club but he's tarnishing his legacy which is a shame.

{Ed001's Note - he would walk into their team, not warm the bench! Have you not seen Smalling and Blind play? They are awful defenders.}

A couple of months ago rumours were circulating that Fonte could be heading for the exit door and I like many thought it was just paper talk. He is in the latter years of his career so a move seemed unlikely. but now seeing the money that Everton have paid for a player of similar age and ability I think sadly this might be on the cards. On the bench maybe due to the Euros but I think its more than that. If he goes he goes. we will need to replace him as we haven't got anyone of his quality available. Gardos may be that player but as he is unproven I just don't think we can take that risk.
Great second half performance by the team yesterday. Redmond looks hungry for goals.

I agree ed001 I think he would be an automatic starter have you heard if there's any truth to mufc interest

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - there is interest yes, it is up to the player now to decide if he wants the move or not. Similar to the Williams move, the club will not stand in his way if he wants the move, though they would prefer him to stay.}

Regardless of whether we sell Fonte or not, we will need another CD.
Maya just isn't up to it (he is on par with Hooiveld), and Gardos unproven.
We need cover now in this position and if Fonte goes another quality CD to replace him.

Hojbjerg was quality yesterday and I thought Redmond played well too.

Really hope Fonte dosnt leave but it's looking like it's a possibility I think mourinho really wants him and seems Fonte may want the move as well (which I hope I'm wrong about) if its the case Wesley Hoedt would be a good addition his young promising and Dutch so could pair well with vvd just a thought.

Saw Jason Denayar mention last week 21 year old at Man City. Believe he played along side Virgil at Celtic on loan, could be good loan or loan to buy, especially if we need two players.

Let's be honest if you were 32 and been in League 1 and then battled your way with a side to the PL and then won the Euros and then wanted by Man United you like me would probably be confused at what's happening here. Jose deserves this but still hope he stays, a legend at SFC. If he does go no boos from me.

Agree with you Chris until the last sentence. When he posts on site "we march on" but behind the scenes had changed agents to Jorge Mendes who by a great coincidence happens to be Jose Mourinho's agent then alarm bells ring. Rumoured he's trying to evoke "a gentleman's verbal agreement " that if a bigger club showed interest he would be allowed to leave.

The more this goes on the less I think of him. I really really hope that this doesn't happen.
