A friend of mine was travelling to Manchester last night from Southampton, and said that sitting at the front row of the plane was Jose Fonte (looking very suave all suited and booted)

From this I can only surmise that he was either going for talks or is currently in talks with Manchester United or possibly Everton.

I don't want him to go at all! but if he goes it would have to be UTD, if he ended up at Everton then Les Reed needs to be sacked!

That's funny because he is currently smiling in pictures with the rest of the team at staplewood.

And I would suspect that those pictures were taken yesterday, because he was definitely on that plane.

And is it not possible to go to and from Manchester in one day? Let alone an evening or afternoon?

I don't know why people post 'rumours' on this site if they're immediately going to be accused of being false or a liar.

A good friend of mine told me that he saw Fonte on his flight, and as he's been a Saints fan for many years I have confidence that he actually knows what Jose looks like!

No if he was going up there to sign why would he come back and train with saints it doesn't make sense. I didn't call you a liar either just saying what the club are currently putting out. You say you have faith in the rumour but your defensive reaction says otherwise.

Talks with a club can take many days even weeks - I didn't say he was signing (to be honest I have no clue about that! ) - He was flying somewhere. and I may have put 4+4 together and come up with 5, all I know if what I have been told.

I really hope he doesn't go, I think being our captain and also such a consistent performer; he's probably our most valuable player.

My suspicion is, Saints have said to him - Talk with whichever club has shown the interest, see what they have to offer and then decide where you want to be. I hope the fact that he is training means he decided to stay in Hampshire.

Also, I'm not sure if people have seen this, but the Daily Echo released an article this morning discussing Jose Fonte (and Charlie Austin) and when reading this, it does sound very much like the words have been written by the club (only using the DE as way of getting this info into the media) . It may be me being a little pessimistic - and after reading the words "We've offered the player a very good package, and we're confident they'll be here for the coming years" so many times over the last 3 summers. I think i'm allowed to be! ;-)

Saint Ben I am sorry just re read my posts and both unecessary they were knee jerk reactions out of frustration with the current situation. I think we can all agree we want saints to be successful, there is just a lot of negativity around the club right now when really we should be positive. We have Europa league football we have resigned in my opinion all of our best players from last season and added to that. I know we have lost good players but those players also let us down at times last season. So again I am sorry for the comments.

Also Arsenal are now being linked as well, and they definitely need defenders. let's get Chambers back!

According to the Telegraph, Fonte isn't first choice for UTD. Varane is. Eds, do you know if there is any truth behind this?

{Ed001's Note - Varane is not going there though, hence the move for Fonte.}

Arsenal are linked with many players and seldom dot hey get them. Also, who would Arsenal buy a defender because they are very weak in that area and then immediately loan another one out?

Because there were talks of them loaning him out that's why!

It's a standard summer transfer window for us. Let's just hope the new players and the new manager we have brought in can continue the trend for improvement.
I'm happy with what we have bought so far and if we can get quality replacements for any other outgoings I'd be happy too. Plenty of time left in the window to get the work done and I'd rather get the right players than expensively panic buy to keep us fans happy. Onwards and upwards.

I appreciate that this is a rumour site and anyone can post whatever they like, but “It was definitely him because my mate said so” just doesn’t cut it for me. I just cannot see Jose flying on the same types of planes that we would, he would have a private plane provided by Manchester United if he was going for talks with them. He definitely wouldn’t be getting a £60 Jet2 flight, that’s for sure!

Why not? Why would they pay stupid money for a private jet from Southampton? I can absolutely see why he would jump on a plane from the airport. It's not like it's deadline day and they are trying to get someone in from Italy or Spain.

Last season I saw Koeman at Southampton Central. Not everyone travels by Bat Mobile.
