Southampton should of bid for Joe Allen and Berahino. Two very good players who could help us massively especially with Europa as well as domestic. Both probably going to end up at Stoke. I'm a bit worried about the activity and ambition we are showing in the transfer market. I know Puel likes to give youth a chance but you need a good blend and these 2 would be good signings as would Mendy and Musa who have gone to Leicester. I'm worried we're missing out.

There is a first for everything. A decent post from Dorset and one I agree with on all fronts. Joe Allen especially for the kind of money it will take to get him looks good business. With the players/ goals we have lost in the team this summer, I am hoping that the board have one or two players in mind that can hit the ground running.

Totally agree, we gamble on youth as and when there good enough not for the sake of it, the new manager has to get used to the premier with proven quality I think the likes of Allen would have given us that.

I'm sorry but what are you two on? We probably only need a midfielder that is a bit like wanyama and is defensive. Joe Allen is attacking; how many attacking midfielders do we have when we only usually play one!

who in the existing team/ squad will be the replacements for 1) Mane and 2) Pelle? Thoughts.
And if not - i. e we need similar or better standard of players bought in to ensure the 'we march on' philosophy continues.

Where is our attacking midfielder, apart from davis (who we all rate) doesn't score regularly enough, holberg unproven in prem so think Allen or similar would have been ideal for us as 2 QUALITY players per position needed with europa etc. Would love to see replacement for pelle as feel we have willing runners but no target man.

You say davis doesn't score enough and then add we should have got allen, who has 4 goals since 2012? A good 5 games with wales doesn't change my mind on him. Done nothing at liverpool.

We have more than enough CM's, that should be the last position we look at, I agree we could do with a wide forward like Berahino. After that I feel that we're pretty well covered in all positions in terms of numbers, but could do with more quality in certain positions. I'd like another CB who's as good VVD or Fonte and then a RB if we get rid of Martina, unless the new manager like Vallery enough to use him as back up?

Reed and Gallagher are replacements for those two in our existing squad. Whether they are good enough or better is a different argument.

Why would we need joe Allen!? We've already got about 3/ 4 small central midfielders that are similar to him. If you want a replacement for wanyama then buy another unit, not another 5"6 passer of the ball. We've already got clasie, Davis, ward-prowse, plus Harry reed. In my opinion I don't think he'll buy another cm. more like a creative number 10. I think romeu will act as wanyamas replacement with hojberg as a new schneiderlin type. We need someone who can open up a defence and play in the hole a little bit more. Joe Allen is way too similar to what we already have. People seem to be obsessed with what other clubs are doing and who they're buying. "Oh stoke are buying them so that means we should be trying to get them too" as for berahino? Probably a bigger mercenary than mane with an even worse attitude. No thanks. I think we need a rb, a cb, and a tricky number 10. Maybe we should offer for barkley just to make koemans job even harder! Lol.

Milky I agree. We have a lot of players who can sit deep. It just depends on what formation (s) we are running with this year. If we stick to two holding midfielders I can see Holberg and Romeu taking the starting slots. I'll be interested to see if Redmond is a starter or a sub. We'll find out in the next few weeks during the friendlies but if he does look like he is starting then I don't think we will be getting a Mane replacement as he will be it. This year the board have done a great job so far. There are too many posts on here about buying marquee players. I'd rather get the right person in a little later then panic buy now. Wee are in a really strong position as a club so everyone needs to be a little patient.

Exactly Cyprus. Another "marquee" signing like osvaldo? Or gaston? No thanks. We buy smart, not just throw money at it and hope for the best. I remember everyone harping on about stoke buying shaquiri last year and how we should have bought him. Good player granted, but did we need him? Not really. We buy players we NEED. We don't buy players just because other clubs are interested. Like I said I still think we need a tricky, creative number 10. Juanmi didn't work out, neither did gaston. I feel if we had someone to unlock some of the tough defences we could turn some draws in to wins and climb the table. Very interested to see what else we do. Very happy with signings so far.
