And another of Ralph's bizarre team selections .
Djenepo again?
Redmond up front?
Best players on the bench! Imagine if you are Che Adams or Broja and you see Redmond chosen ahead of you .
Or Djenepo ahead of tella?

I liked the change in tactics in the second half from Ralph. The 4-2-3-1 looked better. However, Armstrong was living off scraps for 90 minutes. I can see why Djenepo plays because he can track back and we can defensive slot onto a back 5.

Aside from that I'm happy with the clean sheet but going forward we're so slow and not creative.

Well Ralph seems to have taken credit for his formation when the posters on this site have repeatedly expressed their views for settled regular full backs, Diallo in for Romeu (albeit a yellow card or injury forced. this change)! JWP further forward and Broja up top (but not selected from kick off. )? Djnepo the jury still out. I’ve concluded that Redmond is. Ralph’s ‘Favourite Boy’ (similar to Walcott) who. was picked regardless of form and who both render the whole team 10% underpowered which ultimately puts extra pressure on the remaining players. This has been evident for weeks gone bye but Ralph chooses to play him in preference to Tulla. It’s somewhat comparable to expecting an old car to perform with one spark plug misfiring! Assuming that with S. Armstrong available and Adams champing at the bit Ralph may just (Fall Into) his best x1)unexpectedly in the future courtesy of future player injuries/ reprimands. This game was another opportunity missed!

Although I have criticised Ralph in the past for his short comings at times but he is still a well respected and knowledgeable coach who would likealy be a success in the Championship League where some of his uncanny team selections and questionable substitutions would be punished far less quickly than in the Premiership. Perhaps eyes will begin to be cast east coast wards towards Brighton and Graham Potter if current draws continue. The question is would he be interested? The speculation regarding Sam Johnstone would be an excellent move- Top Drawer (if the points aren’t accumulating he may be required in January)!

The worrying thing about the continued selection of Djenepo and Redmond, is there virtually non existent contribution to the attack. Yesterday was probably the most destructive I have seen these two play. Poor shooting, poor decision making, poor passing, poor reading of the game. No matter how much time Redmond had on the ball, he didn’t have a clue what to do, let alone pick the right pass. Djenepo was awful, stumbling around, always trying to do anything but pass the ball to a teammate. We will not win games while these two are on the pitch. With their service so poor and JWP and Romeu playing virtually zero decisive balls, we have very little threat going forward other than Mo. We’re it not for the great runs and crosses from Perraud and Tino we would have had nothing in the way of attacking momentum.
Pair KWP and Tino, pair Perraud with Mo .

When Antonio got sent off if basically levelled it up 10 v 10 because Redmond doesn’t count. Awful again and picked in front of Tella - amazing!

Credit where it’s due, McCarthy had a much better game - one top save and generally dominant for crosses but his distribution is still poor and lads, stop playing tippy tappy stuff in our own 18 yard box - twice we could have been left very embarrassed. It’s not clever and not is it a good look unless you are 3 or 4 up, and how often does that happen.

Actually, you could say he was picked in front of Broja too as he was played up front?

Totally agree. Hopefully Broja will get game time - he looks a handful - the physical presence up front we’ve been missing.

After reading reports I find it very unusual for SFC to put out a statement naming their preferred successor to Ralph at this time. Could the Big Fella be on the move? -Hope not at this stage but for the record please add Graham Potter and Eddie Howe to head up the list of prospective candidates!

{Ed077's Note - genuine question, Who is the preferred successor to RH named by Southampton?

Did Ralph really believe he could continue with his
- bizarre team selection
- bizarre substitutions
- poor tactics and tactical changes
- no plan B
- picking players not good enough or not on form
- playing players out of position
- picking Redmond and Djenepo regardless

He has gone from making absolutely zero formation changes to making changes in last two games.
Has he had the ‘this can’t go on or else…’?

All I know is his learning curve has had a very downward trajectory! Yes he’s made some tactical changes in the last two games, but he is not playing his best team and continues to pick Redmond and Djenepo- who had the worst games ever! Djenepo did track back while Redmond ball and player watched.

If he picks Redmond over Broja, Djenepo over Tella .
Then he doesn’t deserve our sympathy or praise!

Eddie would be an upgrade - the others are just names banded around who would make little difference.

Personally I would take Eddie right now because I have long lost faith with Ralph - nice guy that he is (God, that is getting so repetitive) .

When we finally get to win a PL game, it won’t be because of Ralph but in-spite of Ralph. Sad but true - I have yet to find anyone, and I mean anyone who would play Redmond in front of the options he has. It is also a sign of how far we have plummeted when respected posters suggest that 3 draws and a defeat is an ok return. Really? If we as supporters accept that then there is no prospect of a bright future - we are the bedrock of a club we have supported over decades - the present management/ board are lacking in ambition, drive and strategy. There are those who will disagree but please, please do not keep espousing the Southampton way. That more than anything defines our acceptance of mediocrity because in 3 years time we might just be better.
