Just read Athletic Madrid are using Toby Alderweireld as bait for Schneiderlin :O would much rather we did business with them. Inflates his price for united? Kinda suited to their needs, heavily reliant on Carrick. I feel like MS would be settling for less at United, as Jamie Redknapp said "bang average". I also doubt they can challenge the title next year. Arsenal seem to have cooled with MS? Although i'm sure Wenger is bluffing. Surely you would chose Athletico if you had all 3 knocking.
Toby and 15m would be a good deal, imo. Far better move for MS. Values Toby at 11.6m ;)

It's an intriguing offer, but the problem is how much Atletico value Schneiderlin compared with Alderweireld. Obviously from the perspective of the fans he's our best player, and has had a big influence on winning matches, the stats show that. In an ideal world he should be worth £35 million, but more than likely the fee would be nearer to £25 million with add-ons hopefully. But even if Alderweireld is valued at £11.6 million I cannot see them offering up an additional £10 million as good will!

Saints are always looking for a top tier offer. The question is who is going to pay it given how much last year's deserters under performed following their big money moves.

I was actually saying 15m and TA. so "10m as good will" suggests we see this very differently.

schneiderlin is a 25m player proven in the PL, for 3 seasons running has been a standout player in the league. that's no feat. he is now getting regular time for the french national side despite the fact "if your not playing for a top club".

Schneiderlin is a different class, not sure why you would even put him in the same breath as last years "big money movers".

You even stated 35m yourself.

does one season in the PL take TA from a £6.8m to a 15-20m defender? unless the buying club is liverpool or some other money throwing poorly run club i'd argue not even close.

how much more can athletico argue he is now worth?

how much is TAs form down to fonte?

they also have jiminez who has seemed more than capable this season when called upon.

for a player that was surplus to requirements and may even still be, 10/11.6m is a very fair price, especially in the spanish market, also compared to the 6.8m first agreed. 13-15m and a not needed player for schneiderlin is a VERY good deal.

as I have just seen on a post from TUI the issue will more be of ATM having the cash as opposed to them questioning the value of MS

The positional versatility of Alderweireld is one reason why Atletico could argue he's worth around the same as Schneiderlin. As well as the fact recently Belgian internationals tend to cost a premium. And much like us, Atletico rarely sell their promising and proven players on the cheap.

Obviously the price that we agreed on last summer was based around the fact he had not settled, and at the time was surplus to requirements. However they wouldn't of added a buy-back clause if they didn't think he wouldn't start to show his qualities whilst playing for Saints.

Yes, one breakout season in the BPL can double or treble the value of a player, case in point Dejan Lovren. Or better yet, from this season, Harry Kane.

As you pointed out the buy-out clause we agreed for Alderweireld was £6.8 million, but he is already being valued at around £11.6 million. And what's to say Atletico won't quote more than this, especially if there's enough parties interested.

I compare Morgan with last season's departures because much like he has done, they too showed the talents and potential that gave them such high values, which last summer teams willingly paid. I don't see how you could argue that he is of a different class to Lallana, who was our best creative outlet for all the years he played here.

It's easy for us fans to place a value on a player. But for a club there's always going to be a number of factors that play a part in deciding what amount they'd be willing to sell a player at, or not at all. That's why it's not as simple as saying we'll give you Morgan for Toby and £10 million plus.

AL played 2 seasons in the PL the first the question arose "is he good enough for the PL"

11.6m is my figure being 10m plus the 1.6m opt out clause.

AL was massively overpriced at 27m, MS is probably underpriced. He could start for any team in the PL bar chelsea, but he is not far behind Matic.

I actually think if Chelsea paired Schneiderlin with Matic and let Fabregas play further forward as a number 10, they'd lock down the league for the next five years. You're not getting through that midfield.

Saints release 6 professionals and 4 scholars:

Artur Boruc
Jos Hooiveld
Cody Cropper
Omar Rowe
Jake Sinclair
Chris Johns

And:

Dan Demkiv
Chris Regis
Niall Mason
Mark Irvine

That's three keepers in all. Shame about Omar Rowe, who was handy at times for the age groups, bags of pace, but I think he's been injured pretty much all season. Jake Sinclair was once rated as a top prospect, but I guess his days were numbered when he couldn't even get a game in the Scottish Championship earlier in the season, on loan at Hibs.

I was a bit surprised they let Niall Mason go (he's joining Aston Villa), as he was a regular for the U21s, played out of position at right back. He looked like he could be a promising player in a more natural midfield role.

But there you go. Good luck to them all in finding clubs, and thanks for the memories to Jos and Boruc.

Most surprised about Cropper who's been around the first team and was even called up to the US national team and Demkiv who looked even more like the next lallana than Hesketh does

toby has made a very strange statement. whilst he wants to stay in the premier league he says he wants a club that 'really wants him'

I hope saints have made him feel wanted as he is a really class act

Think that might have been move of an attack at Athletico since he's only really been a bench warmer and then loaned out whilst there

Yeah, it's very apparent he's enjoyed his opportunities here and would welcome the chance to stay. I said about a month ago to really give us a good shot at signing him permanently, Toby and his agent should make some noise. If Atletico are open to selling him I would imagine we are entitled to negotiating before any other club can.
