Callum Chambers to Arsenal, £12m.

I think it's safe to say whatever goodwill and benefit of the doubt fans have given the current board, the good ship Southampton is clearly rudderless and sinking without a trace.

It's not even a good price for someone who could be England's first choice RB in 12 months.

Come on, Les, time for another big interview where you try and keep a straight face whilst telling everyone that the club is super ambitious and has no intention of selling anyone. We could use a laugh.

Lambert, Lallana, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers - Schneiderlin next, then Rodriguez.

Believable19 Unbelievable11

1 we can't hold on to all our youngsters otherwise there would quickly be a log jam!

2 no sale has been announced

3 £13m would be a ridiculous price for a player who backs up Clyne at right back.

4 there is no way he would be full England player in 12 months. Clyne more likely

5 the board are doing fine and have adequately replaced every player sold to date

Agree12 Disagree16

Are we cashing out now?

Agree8 Disagree4

This is now getting beyond a joke I want the board out!! NOW

Agree15 Disagree12

I've read multiple sources going on this one. Anywhere between £7 million at the lower end and £16 million at the higher end. This is just ridiculous now. Clyne's good and all, but we really don't need to sell Chambers and shouldn't. Spineless from the board, utterly spineless.

Agree16 Disagree7

Think I might just become a liverpool fan. really finding it hard to be positive at mo.

Agree9 Disagree8

Where do people like you get off Quertywell? The good ship Southampton has come back from the dead before and we are in a very good position compared to where we have been before. No one ever accomplished anything with such a negative and defeatest attitude. We need to stay positive and have faith. Southampton til we die. Keep the faith!

Sounds to me like good business for a player who is a reserve full back, we have probably got another one like him in the cupboard that no one knows about. Controversial I know but we can sign top quality internationals for less than we get for an untried player at the top level. I think we all agree that the young lads with all the promise don't necessarily turn out to be the complete article. Give the board a break guys and wait and see what happens this season, we could all be very nicely surprised.

'If' true I'm thinking either there are some pretty serious dark forces working against us. or Frau Liebherr and the board are performing the sort of new regime 'purge' that would make Kim Jong-Un blush.

Agree11 Disagree3

This is getting ridiculous.

Trying to stay positive. Really I am. But. Someone mentioned we have replaced all those we have sold. Have we? I thought we had replaced one of our strikers. One of our midfielders and. nope that's it.

I live in perpetual hope that there are plans in place. All of the business has been for excellent money. But. We need at least another four + players within the next few weeks. Just to have any type of depth at all. Something that severely limits the bonding process we are going to desperately need for what is going to be a tough season.
I don't think some people have the right attitude by shaking their fists and saying how the world is ending. But. We are getting very little positive news whilst all other teams are solidifying.
We need more than conjecture and rumour now.

Agree9 Disagree1

Right let's face fact if we get 12 million for some one whom until Clyne got injured in pre season last year was a centre mid and now a 12 m right back then we have to be having a laugh. Clyne is by far the better centre half and so meaning chambers will be understudy and wow we sell him for 12 mil well I have to be honest great business.
I would prefer him to stay but well I'm trying to think like a businessman rather then with my saints shirt on and I'm sure for 3/4 million at most we can replace him.
My question is although he would struggle for game time with us why move to arsenal where he will really struggle for game time='money (wages) talk.

callum chambers 16m . I don't see it, good business I suppose, must admit i'm getting a bit worried now, i'm sure koeman knew what was going to happen before he joined up so hopefully he will get 2 or 3 players in soon and that will make us a bit all feel a bit better. I think!

Agree6 Disagree5

I think it's possible that one of our right backs go. Neither would be happy on the bench. I personally rate chambers and believe he has huge potential. He looks as good on the ball as lallana did. But for me £12m is a snip. A sign if a club willing to sell off talent rather than mature it. I hope this rumour isn't true.

Agree6 Disagree1

Agree f. g joke, les reed is a lying t. t board completely out of there depth, I appreciate where we've come from in 7yrs but all that hard work is just being pissed in the wind, complete lack of vision, kl needs to sell up and f. k off before we are completely gutted and staring relegation in face

Agree13 Disagree5

Say what you want about the position we are in now compared to 5 years ago but the matter of the fact is we could be so much more. this will never happen with the KL and RK. Cortese was a genius and a ruthless business man and the club was 10 times better off with him than without. is clyne better than chambers? according to MoPo no.

Agree10 Disagree5

They are causing rifts between fans which is not what we do at all! we have stuck together through thick and thin but they are causing problems, mugging us off and lying to us. compare the positivity and the praise we were receiving compared to how we look now. its beyond a joke. BUT we stand together and come the 17th we start again. we are the most heart wrenching club in England but that's why we love SFC. COYR!!

Agree5 Disagree2

After warning this would be a tough summer in may I didn't expect this, I do however admire the positivity from some. However the simple facts are LR came out to reassure fans who have purchased the colours of Sfc season tickets and more only to go back on various promises. So far "good additions" are not proven here and if chambers, lovren and Morgan go we have not just taken out the spine, but the brains and the know how too. I am sorry but unless the board shock us with some top, top quality signings (unlikely) then staying in the league will be seen as a good season.

Agree6 Disagree0

So 3 have gone. Chambers, Lovren and Schneiderlin appear to be halfway out the door and with this exodus ( that is exactly what this is now) I wouldn't be at all suprised if JayRod went too. We already clearly needed a GK, CB and striker. We have signed 2 so far. 2!!
I'm all for cashing in on players who don't want to be here but the start of the season is just weeks away. We have only 2 friendly's left. Realistically we need 7 new faces in, 5 as an absolute rock bottom minimum.
I get that transfer markets are complex and even with bags to spend you sometimes have to game play and wait it out etc but these new players need to be top class and these players need to gel, we have very little time for this to happen now. Worrying!
I am not pushing the panic button yet but if we haven't signed at least 3 players in the next two weeks then I fear that we really are in a bit of trouble.
Identify targets, throw the money at them, get them in. All this wheeling dealing trying to get a few mill knocked off here and there may cost us a damn sight more in the long run if we don't get a move on and start building a competitive looking squad. NOW!

Agree7 Disagree0

If this is true I will be so upset.
i have spent ages defending the boards decisions up till now but this just seems like madness. unless we have a replacement literally already signed it is just poor business

unlike our other sales its not even that good money, they were understandable when others where paying way over the odds but his isnt. if they offer 20+ then take it but what is the point in letting him go otherwise

Agree5 Disagree1

Looking forward to the new season, I think that we have an excellent equation for valuing players, and I can almost guarantee that there is a tremendous amount of time going into bringing in quality players.
That said we will very likely need to re-evaluate any time constraints in said equation. Last season we were very fortunate with injuries, and I am not comfortable with the risk of continuing with a squad of the same size as last time.
Our youth system is second to none yet it is another risk to back inexperienced players, we would all love to see youth blooded, but without any great pressure on them.
As long as we get in players who are leaders, taking full responsibility on the field we should be fine, I'll reserve judgement until the end of August.
I'd like to think that RoKo can build his own team his own way and any cash left over is going towards stadium expansion, time will tell but l'm a long way off losing faith in Katrina and her team.

Agree3 Disagree4

This started as one of those fake itk's on twitter, doubt it's happening, unless Koeman doesn't rate him (and we all know Koeman's record with youth)

Agree4 Disagree2

Look at the hysteria on here.

I warned 6 weeks ago that there was growing interest in Chambers.

I warned at the end of the season that the manager might go (although I wasn't convinced), Shaw had asked to leave last season etc etc etc.

Fans can be naive to the point of stupidity.

The Board and manager have limited control over player sales. Players and agents decide transfers nowadays. All the club can do is maximise the transfer fee

Agree6 Disagree5

It seem last seasons team are all off for glory and big pay packets, I find it strange that after doing so well last season that they all want to go. With a few new players and Roko as manager we could reach a higher position and Europe qualification. Maybe now CC off to Arse they can let us keep spider. As long as we don't sell him to spuds. Keep the faith. It is a worry that so many are leaving but it show how far the saints have come we are creating international players. Good quality players and attractive football so it's understandable why bigger clubs want our players. We have made a lot of money from them so we must now re build and come back better and stronger. I for one have faith in Roko and his coaching staff. So now all we need is to SPEND the money on quality players who want to play for us and achieve the same goals which is European football and you never know one day be league champions (Blackburn did it & and don't forget it was so long ago Man City were in the lower leagues) COYR

Agree7 Disagree2

Cant believe fans are still trying to stay positive fair play but it is so obvious what is happing KL is just cashing in on our youth system I honestly believe there will never ever be anything to be excited about whilst KL is in charge good business some say yeah for KL it is not for the club or the fans it isn't we have brought in two players with three weeks left. I think there is a strong possibility we are going down then she will sell up if that's what it takes for her to sell then I am game : ( Please before you dislike explain yourselves

Agree6 Disagree6

I would rather have chambers. Really do t want him to go he was one of my favourite players to watch last year. Out of any team though I feel he will get on well at arsenal because of their passing style.
In my head I was thinking maybe the board wanted to raise £30m ish then start running the club within its needs. But it becoming excessive. We really don't need to keep selling now. We won't have any players left to sell in January! That would be awful

Agree4 Disagree1

I'm gutted about this, I found it hard to swallow lovren and spider rumours but it looks even worse now, this stinks of rupert Lowe days all over again. I fear more will leave, no ambition now. KL clearly doesn't think the same way as her father did. NC leaving was because of THIS.

Agree8 Disagree3

We had a squad that was too small last year. Chambers and lovren confirmed today, let's be honest SpiderMan will go. With mopo sniffing around j rod. With the players left and the small squad anyway i'd say we need ten players minimum to come in.

Agree5 Disagree0

My only straw to clutch is that Ron would not have come in without some knowledge if this situation. Hoping against hope this was the case and board will back him in his decisions. assuming the players he wants want to come

Agree2 Disagree1

26 Jul 2014 09:07:22
My sources tell me that Ron was told of only three sales. He too has been misled by the board and he no longer intends to stay at Southampton beyond the summer but is hoping to do his best to get him a bigger club. Like Poch basically.

It is basically a closing down sale. It is not fair to mislead us fans so much when we are so loyal in our support physically, mentally and financially. The fans of our great club always unite at bad times as well as good. We must now unite to oust the board and owners. I gather also that this has begun with a big people protest expected at our first home game.

If anything I did enjoy it when we were in league 1 and the championship, and let's face it the premiership is overrated

Agree6 Disagree3

26 Jul 2014 09:55:32
Chambers is an outstanding young player who will be a full international within 18 months, he and Morgan are the true stars of our team. If both of those leave then we have lost 2 irreplaceable players.

Agree5 Disagree3

26 Jul 2014 11:41:13
Do you think that this team thought they could never match what they did last season and went for the big pay day while they could?
I'm disappointed with CC going but if there is a plan we need to have some re-assurance from the board.
A few signings will calm the nerves and remember, it's not always easy convincing clubs to sell their best players. I'm trying to remain positive.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 12:53:11
All this gloom and doom about KL being a parasite and selling all our best players, THEY want to leave for whatever reason (probably money) so best to let them go. You don't appoint one of the most sought after coaches in the world in RK if you are thinking of selling off. If we back off and give them time to properly re-group it may be best as panick buying could be a disaster.

Agree3 Disagree1

Bring back Nicola!!

Lovren having medical at Liverhampton this weekend. £20M fee agreed.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Excellent news! Goodbye and thanks for your year at saints. Fantastic business for a player that wanted out. Now I believe to benefit the most from this, the money HAS got to be reinvested in 2 cb. Van djiik and vlaar for me, although unlikely we would get both.

Agree11 Disagree1

I hope we have somebody else (Stefan de Vrij) tied up already.

Agree7 Disagree2

Good, fair play to board for top price. Koeman and board must have known for a couple of weeks he was off so replacement should be pretty much sorted. Heard a few things but I don't want to put my name to any one player as I believe we might be interested in 2, I have a feeling that we might bring both in which would be a big improvement for us. I'm excited, just need Morgan to leave then re-group and go again.
Oh before people get on one I'm not saying I want Morgan to go but let's be honest he's going to and in meantime he hasn't slagged us off, just a shame it's spurs he's going!
Let the new players start rolling in and enjoy!

Agree8 Disagree4

Would have to reluctantly agree. I am not going to delve I to too much detail as it's not worth it but from what I have heard he has been offered captaincy and improved terms in return for commuting to at least a couple of years. As an honest guy he couldn't. Not heard much on cb's coming in other than what's been states.

Agree2 Disagree0

Obv I'm talking about Morgan. Committing not commuting

Agree2 Disagree1

'We are not a selling club' so asserted Les Reed back in May! I won't miss Lovren he has shown himself to be little more than mercenary gobsh*te. But my real worry is playing kids and the Hoover surely we are now in serious danger of making Derby County look accomplished. I fear it's going to be a long cold winter.

Agree5 Disagree2

Morgan is arsenal bound fact

Agree6 Disagree6

Schneiderlin is returning this week. It's unlikely that he'll be moving, stay positive, guys!

Agree0 Disagree5

25 Jul 2014 20:44:21
Hate to say it sherbourne but I am beginning to agree. Hoover isn't up to it. I hope to God we see some positive news soon as the blind optimism is beginning to wear on me now

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Jul 2014 22:42:30
I see llanna has a knee injury will miss start of season. tripped over his wallet!

Agree11 Disagree2

Am I the only person that thinks we have actually done some good business over the summer. We have sold players who are no longer dedicated to the club for £20m+ and brought in some players who can do a job for us next season (Pelle)? Can we not wait until the season is a little bit underway before all the doom and gloom?

Agree5 Disagree2

Hedge end saint have you just called me out!! Joke by the way.
Good shout I should put names to positions but I'll be honest and say I'm not going to. That might make me a liar or mean I know something and if I'm besting honest (once again) people can think/write what they want about me. All I can say is what I have heard/ been told and that stands as above. Very interested in 2 quality centre half's. I don't know if one is preferred over other and the second being a back in case saints first choice doesn't work which is often the case in transfers to have a back up plan. But I have a feeling from topic that both might be on cards but again that how I took it reading between the lines. Sorry Hedge the saint that was pretty poor from me but then again when in next 10 days we bring in 2 top if the pops centre half's remember I said it first!!

Agree3 Disagree2

Lovren, Chambers, maybe Morgan. Now is the time for buying, you have had the time Mr Reed, now get on with it. There clearly are things we do not know. We will be asked to trust them next, well the fans do that all of the time, Tomorrow is another day, we trust you, don't let us down.

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Jul 2014 10:14:46
Sorry but several weeks ago was time to start buying. Why, when other teams were buying and we were selling were there no options in place or some firm potential offers? I know the board does things in secret but that doesn't explain this
Why has it come down to the last three weeks? Why has it come down to a panic so that we are going to 'do an Osvaldo' and grab the only player available. Or stand there like last season and say. sorry we tried.
We have had money available for a long time and have had the potential for bedding in a TEAM. Now, whether we get the team today or a weeks time, we are already going to be behind most of our opposition in terms of preparation.
The more I think about it the more I worry that this has not been done correctly by the board. I don't agree with the closing down sale. at the moment. but it's not as if we are being given the other side of the coin is it.

Approx 8 players needed in 3 weeks

BBC are reporting we have agreed a fee of 20m with Liverpool for Lovren.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

25 Jul 2014 13:37:39
if forster can't be got for 7/8m we should look elsewhere, same with marshall. celtics 10m asking price would make him the 5th most exspensive keeper in history! arsenal just signed david ospina colombias no:1 who was imprssive at the world cup for 3.5m.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

25 Jul 2014 14:26:21
Normally would agree but we have the money and we need to buy some players and fast! we always much about not willing to pay and that's why we generally miss out!!

We have the money so let's just get the deal over the line, same for our other targets!

Agree2 Disagree4

Agreed - and we don't need to rush to get a new keeper so wait for the right deal to emerge - don't chase the market

Agree1 Disagree1

Yes completely agree with that saintgibbs as there are a lot of other keepers we could sign at the going rate not pay ridiculous money just because other clubs know we got a little bit to spend.

Agree2 Disagree0

25 Jul 2014 15:59:44
I do agree. Problem is with how many others are watching. I do agree we shouldn't be held to ransom just because we have some money.

My only concern through it all is that there are many teams that will be around the middle of the table next season who have bought several players. Newcastle have bought 5. West hoof have bought similar. We haven't even filled the gaps we NEED players yet. I would like to see those filled before we spend big on a goalie

Agree3 Disagree0

Sorry saintgibbs but that's not true. google world most expensive keepers!

If we signed Forster at 10 million he still would not be in the top ten most expensive keepers

Agree1 Disagree2

Who else do you think Southampton will be looking at?

Agree1 Disagree1

Either we are playing it really cool, or we are are so slow the tortoise will win!Lets pray they know what they are doing!!

Agree4 Disagree0

I would agree if we haven't just got £60m or so from transfers, I think now we have this so called "war chest" we should use it to get our main targets even if it means playing £2m-£3m extra, obviously we shouldn't spend a stupid amount, just don't think we should be priced out of getting our top targets if it means paying a little extra, plus Forster is a top player and would be a fantastic addition

Agree2 Disagree0

That is spot on. Can any one sing WAKEY WAKEY?

Agree3 Disagree0

A neutral supporter would say Liverpool have payed over the top for our players. The marked is inflated, and to sign a player with more than one year of the contract left the selling club holds the best cards. That is unless the player does a childish Lallana or Lovren act.

Agree1 Disagree1

25 Jul 2014 22:06:47
Somebody said yesterday said that myself and SaintPhil thought we were the oracle on football. Puzzled by this as we are both looking at things from our own perspective like all of us are, sorry if it comes over differently. Anyway back to Forster, I still don't get it that everybody knows what a great keeper he is, I will admit that I have seen him twice and probably would guess the same for most of you. I can't see why people would just get excited about a player that you have no real knowledge of. I watched live games and Match of the Day last season and I do know through seeing it with my very eyes how good David Marshall is. If we don't try to get him somebody else in the PL will and that might smart a bit. All I care about is Southampton Football Club and hope that Koeman gets it right, I have a strong feeling he will.

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic released David Marshal when he was in his early 20's, there is no doubt that having seen both extensively that Forster is a better prospect - I think he could go on to be one of the great keepers. He is a late starter (he concentrated on rugby as a kid) so he has at least 15 years in him. Our goalkeeping coach raves about him, supposedly he just wants to train all day, You have just appointed the England Goalkeeping coach, so I think it tells you everything if you are interested, he has just spent a month with him/seeing him every day, so he will know exactly about his character/ability. In Europe for us he has more to do, and he has been incredible. None of the huge clubs need a keeper at present, otherwise more clubs would be interested, but mark my words, he is destined for the top. The money clubs are paying for average players is crazy, - anyone that gets Forster, or Virgil for less than £10 million will have stole them from us!

Agree2 Disagree1

Thanks paul1 appreciate the info

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a horrible feeling that this is all about asset stripping and trying to get away with the bare minimum. I hope I am wrong. Like every one else all I want is what's best for my club. There is little we can do at the moment other than trust the board! These nervous times can be calmed by doing the obvious Mr Reed. If your hands are being tied by others I apologise, if not, get your finger out!!

Agree2 Disagree0

Pleasure Gregg, - obviously we had Boruc for about 4 years as well, all these loose Celtic/Southampton connections is quite bizarre. But the thing that separates Forster is his attitude, he is constantly improving, he is only 26, but a young 26 because of the way his career has developed. I don't think there is any shame being behind Tim Krull when he was a kid at Newcastle, he was also quite withdrawn when he was younger/first came to Celtic, but you can see his confidence growing all the time, his kicking is also brilliant now, he has everything you need in a top Keeper, and because of his size he seems unbeatable at times - as I said Barcelona call him the wall. Newcastle have a 20/25% sell on clause so it's only fair we ask a decent price. With regards Virgil, he has everything you need in a modern day centre half, he is like a Rolls Royce, and just strolls through games, he only turned 23 last week, and Groningen have a 20/25% sell on clause with him also. They are our 2 main assets at present, our 2 best players, so as I said when you look at some of the prices for very ordinary players, whoever gets these 2 from us will be doing a shrewd bit of business! Cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - where do you get this crap about Barca calling him 'The Wall'? It is simply not true. It was one comment in an interview calling him that and he has no such nickname or any kind of nickname in Spain at all. He flaps at crosses still, you seem to have forgotten that.}
