I honestly don't get some of the posters here.
We almost beat arguably one of the best championship teams from last season who beat us twice.
That for me in relation to our form this season shows progress. I keep telling people not to expect more than surviving relegation this season regardless of of RM goes or not as there's no quick fix. Yet people are acting like we should be top half of table.
Look at west ham. They've got a crap manager right now because they called for the head of Moyes. I don't necessarily rate Moyes but fans need to be careful what they ask for. They think there's always some shining light manager waiting around the corner to will solve everything, there isnt. We learnt that the hard way with Nathan Jones.
100% I see improvement from RM. Especially as everyone keeps calling him stubborn, for a stubborn guy he's actually mixed up his play alot.
He's not perfect and maybe if he would play Bella Kotcha/Tall Paul he would give himself less of a hard time, but time will tell on that.
A freak goal gives them a point and without that we have our first win. As long as RM keeps learning/adapting and takes it forward into the Bournemouth then I think we have positives to look forward to.

I also don’t get some of the posters on here, and that’s probably the only thing I agree with you on.
Is that what it has come to, we almost beat a team! We also almost scored a penalty against United, we almost have 2 points after 5 league games. At the end of the season, ‘we almost stayed up’. The lack of passion that is shared by a select number of fans resonates bad energy throughout the club.
RM is out of his depth in this league, it really is the case of a small fish, in a very large, brutal pond. By the time he has ‘learnt/adapted’ it will be too late and we will already be at the brink of relegation, if some people are happy with that then that’s up to them, I on the other hand strive for success, at the very least the display of courage, passion, determination. I want better, I believe we all deserve better, I can’t just accept that ‘better luck next year’ type of attitude, it’s just not in me.
We might almost beat Bournemouth next Monday lesleee, the only positives I’m looking forward to is the hot dog at half time. That being said I’m going to pray that miracles do happen, and I will be eating my words as well.

Top post BanterBus! Too many Saints fans are too accepting of mediocrity and as you say, that ‘better luck next year’ attitude.
The team doesn’t have a winning mentality - not even ‘almost’ and that’s on RM. I accept defeat or ‘almost’ wins if we leave everything out there.
Try getting the ball in the opposition box and creating chances - you never know, that might work.

RM tactics are not suited to EPL UNLESS the team contains 11 world class players, Saints doesn’t and never will due to the size of club/ stadium/ sponsors. Some of us have been saying this for 16 months, not just because we lost a couple of games. Anyone watching our performances over the last 16 months will have observed very little flexibility in style of play and a consistent like for like substitutions. This persistence and lack of variation is what some supporters cannot understand. EPL football is near on a science that is analysed and dissected in laboratory type surroundings, nothing is not checked and then double checked, the only way to change that is regular tactical tweaks both before and during games which blindsides the opposition. You will get away with a lack of variation in most leagues in the world but not the EPL.The squad is, in my opinion, good enough for EPL survival this season BUT we now have to gain 37 points from 33 games equating to 10 wins and 7 draws, tough ask in this league. I think the next 4 games will decide our season .

Have to get harsh on you Banter and say that is the exact fickle mentality all fans have and why clubs constantly switch managers with no or little change between them and occasionally worse. Just constant chop and change because fans call for a witch hunt every single time.
There's a saying he careful what you wish for. I'm all for taking the club forward and I have no allgeinces to RM, if you can 100% show/tell me a manager that will come in put us on a more upward trajectory then RM can be shown the door tomorrow, but you CAN'T and that's my point.
All of us here are just commentators but when rubbish gets real, when real choices are on the line supporters aren't ready to shoulder the responsibility/consequences. By that I mean it's all good shouting for RMs head but whoever replaces him those fans have to take responsibility for. They can't just keep crying off with the head of the next one because it makes them and out club a laughing stock. They can't also say "I just wanted RM out, I had no idea they would hire this new clown in his place"
I don't lack ambition I'm just a realist and I think you'd find most of the current players that too. We came up from the championship the hard way/the lucky way and fortunate to even be in the premier league this season and yet fans are screaming we should be challenging for this that ect. For me all that chanting comes next season once we've got through the consolidation of this one. Acting like that already will have us straight back down to the championship because it's writing cheques that no one can back up. Your asking to roll the dice and hoping it comes up high.
For me though I'm sticking with RM because I DO/HAVE seen improvement through his brief premier career and I also get to hold those accountable for whoever his successor is if that new guy doesn't succeed.

It’s not us being fickle Leslee, I for one have never been in favour of his appointment, nor the idiot before him and many other predecessors.
But he really is delusional. You must hear his post match comments about how much he loves his players. And what does that actually mean - I assume he doesn’t mean in the biblical sense so is it because he loves the fact that they blindly comply with his tactics.
It reminds me of Glenn Hoddle when England manager reverting to a faith healer. Same delusional clap trap.
Leslee, I would love to know what you think when you see us week in week out trying to play the ball out of defence - just waiting for the next calamity. And what do you think when you see us constantly going sideways and backwards? How can you not put this on the man with the black jumper. He’s a buffoon with an oversized ego.
I don’t know much about him as a player - he played I believe for a couple of small time teams like Norwich oh and Scotland so just wondering whether he has hang ups of some sort.

Couldn’t have said it better myself Millertime. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to delusional lesleee so I didn’t have to.
Lesleee clearly has an attachment disorder when it comes to his bromance with RM.
Lesleee, you shouldn’t call other fans fickle because they oppose your opinion, a very unambitious opinion might I add.
I feel like it’s completely unnecessary to result to being harsh in your reply, we can all play that game but it becomes a little bit immature, don’t you think? This is meant to be a friendly discussion thread amongst fans with a common passion. Sometimes we have opposing views and that’s ok, it’s all part of a healthy discussion.

I would "settle" for doing a Leicester, going on a run and then winning the league next year!
In all seriousness, I think there are some good points all round. We all want the ambition of the Cortese days, while being pragmatic too.
There has been signs of progress in recent games I am grateful for. We have a big squad, low confidence and inexperience in the league, it's understandable to start slow but as fans we should push for more and to stop the self-inflicted wounds.
If RM goes, it has to be an upgrade - we have to get PL experience, or uncover a Pochettinho. A championship manager seems like we have given up already.
We lack a reliable striker but Dibling, Ramsdale, Sugawara, Downes, Lallana are players to make us proud. We can stay up with the right decisions. COYR!

This is my point.
You call me delusional if I don't agree with getting rid of RM and call me a fan boy for it. Anyone can call for a manager's head as soon as results aren't going the way you want them and that's my point for being harsh.
I do see it as fickleness because of you take away the mistakes at the back and improve finishing at the other end with a key clinical striker than overall were playing very good football.
Everyone keeps calling him stubborn and he is BUT he is also learning and adapting so by that definition you can't keep calling him stubborn.
Someone wrote accepting a draw from Ipswich is defeated attitude. Yet, how many of those same people would take Kieran McKenna as a manager, especially last season .the answer is lots of you. Yet drawing against the team who he manages is somehow bad .you see the twisted logic there ??
Can these same people who are going on file as wanting RM please put up a list of managers they think are better and who they actually think we as a club could attract. The reality is we're going after the likes of Blackburns manager and that is just like for like with me and it's this kind of merry go round were dealing with them you call for someones head.

I would give RM 5 more games before reviewing, providing that:
1. He cuts out the crazy back passes like we did against Man Utd
2. He works on defending set pieces
3. He plays the best team, not his favourites
4. He gives a team talk that lift players or gets somebody in who can
5. He gets us a plan B. We have so many attacking players we could even have special team subs for counter attacks or getting balls in the box.
These are things a new manager would need to do anyway. Whether RM has the humility, flexibility or talent to do that, we will wait and see. I have doubts but there has been some progress eg switching to 4 2 3 1 and changing the starting 11 but it needs stepping up.
If we can attract a Moyes, Potter or even Pochettinho, we should bring them in. We need PL experience. A championship manager feels defeatist.
Sports Republic and our scouts also need to take responsibility. They have done a great job bringing in Ramsdale, Sugawara, Lallana and Ugochukwu but our lack of firepower is a concern and their managerial picks often lack ambition.
On a positive note, we are lucky that so many teams have had a bad start. One win, some confidence, luck, squad familiarity and momentum and we could be in a better position very soon. COYR!
