As the blur rumours around transfer merry-go-round moves begins to come into focus more talk of mane and the Ox transfers seem to be surfacing. Suggestions are that arsenal will sell the Ox to Leicester to find a move for mane, we are being linked with praet from anderlecht and apparently Liverpool (as always) and Leicester are looking to take Shane Long from us. Although Pelle is looking to extend his contract with is beyond next summer amid interest from China, a handful of premier league clubs and a feint interest from Lazio.

Could possibly see Mané to Arsenal happening, but not without us getting some serious money in return for him. Praet I think would be quite a good signing all I've also heard little bits and pieces about us being interested in Hakim Ziyech from FC Twente, and I think that if we're looking for a number 10 type player, he'd be the better option. As for Long to Leicester, I just can't see it happening. He's at a club where he's very comfortable, got a good run of form going, a manager and set of fans that have actually backed him and let's be honest, are Leicester realistically in a better position than us? I don't think so, yeah they've won the league but they haven't had that same level of CONSISTENT improvement that we've had for the past 3 years, at least we've maintained a sustainable position with means to push on.

Definitely agree with TheNorris if that is the case Leicester are as deluded as qpr

Brilliant, and your probably the same guys that are saying that koeman to Everton is a step down because you finished above us for the last 2 seasons.

Oh do give it a rest.
It's not that black and white. It's the progress that happened within that time span. In the space of 3 seasons, Everton's league position kept falling down, defence getting more rubbish by the day, manager losing the dressing room and what not, while saints always finished higher than the season before. Point is you cannot compare it with the Leicester thing because they had one good season so far and there's no guarantee they can match the same level of consistency.
RK snubbed you, and You're going to get another quality manager anyways. Move on.

Saints have invested enormous amounts of cash on the infrastructure and training facilities of the club. We have a relatively new stadium, have a better degree of stability and are improving year on year. Yes, as stands a move to Everton would be a step down. In the future who knows, your club might get back to the old glory days that it had but right now its not there.

24 May 2016 10:06:20
Come on do you generally believe that Southampton are bigger than Everton? We had 2 bad years yes but so have Man U, does that make Spurs bigger than Man U? No. I like Southampton but to say you are bigger than us because we have had 2 bad years is ridiculous. Koeman has rejected us? You must know something many don't.

24 May 2016 11:28:47
If u honestly think Everton are a big club it is not saints fans that are deluded. Nearly every player has regressed this season and you are going to lose Lukaku and Stones at least in the summer. If koeman goes to saints I will have pompey till I die tattooed on my arm. Are Liverpool still thinking of buying Goodison and using it as a car park?

8.) 24 May 2016
24 May 2016 11:51:45
By publicly stating that he plans to honour his contract koeman has inadvertently turned Everton down at least for this season. But really you should stop looking at the past and start pondering about the future. You cannot be living on past glories and think that it's enough to get what you want. If that's the case then Nottingham Forest won't be in the second division. I don't get why it's really unbelievable for you to think that CURRENTLY saints are a better prospect to be in than Everton. Yes club stature and reputation wise Everton are bigger than us but so are Leeds and Newcastle. If Everton manages to prove next season that the last 2 seasons are just a mere blip then you have a case.

9.) 24 May 2016
24 May 2016 12:36:38
Well at least you are putting a case across Vick, It could be argued though that last 2 seasons were a blip as we have previously finished top 8, 8 seasons in a row. I think the 2 clubs are similar on the pitch in terms of players and the good youngsters we have. Throw in our fan base and history which isn't looking in the past but defines a club and for me that makes us a bigger club.
Saint0001 your argument was ridiculous, if lukaku and stones go then it's going to be for over 100 million, all clubs bar the barcelonas of this world have players that want to move on and it's part of the game. Doesn't make us a small club. I don't actually want koeman, his record so far despite doing well is no better than Moyes was for us. Steady manager that will get you top 8 finishes but I want a manager who can take us to the next level like a emery of Seville. But would be great to see the Pompey tattoo and have heard from a few people that seem to know more than I do that koeman is interested in the job and talks could happen this week.

My point was Honest Blue that Bigger does not necessarily mean Better. Yes lots of history at your club but that counts for nothing at the moment. And your argument above about being a top 8 club for 8 years in a row shows you are looking in the past and not looking at the present and future. Moving to your club would be a sidestep at best for RK, which would be plain daft as he would be leaving a club with the second biggest points haul in the premier league in 2016. A club on the way up.

"Bigger" is purely subjective and opinion based. You can draw all sorts of statistics to support a "bigger club" argument all day long. It genuinely doesn't matter what the history of the club is or where they have been. Take Liverpool v Chelsea for example.

Some would argue the case that Liverpool are a bigger club and others would argue that it is Chelsea based on recent trophies for example. The size of a club is subjective and irrelevant. If I was a manger, and I'm not being biased, I would choose saints over Everton. I would base this on the obvious vision of the clubs future, infustructure and what the fans/ board expect.

Now saints aren't as an attractive proposition as a club like Liverpool as a manager for example, as they tend to throw money at their manager and can generally attract a bigger calibre of player or at least stand a better chance of retaining good players. But it's a poison chalice in that the expectation is huge. Managers want to move forward based on competition, money and recognition.

Koeman isn't going to earn any of that by moving to an alternative club within the same tier as where he already is unless they show significant vision.

Straight forward and quick answer, Ronald Koeman is not going to Everton or anywhere else next season. Why? He says he is staying to see out his contract . He means it, wish everybody else in football was as honest as he is .

So honest blue the Goodson to be Liverpool car park was clearly true. 100 million for a centre half who has gone backwards and a striker who only plays when he feels like it. I don't think so 70 for the pair max and who is to say they will spend all of that. Top 8 with a peak of 4 or 5th 12 years ago is not a big club. I am merely stating saints with a solid foundation billionaire owner and great academy. Or Everton is no choice if he leaves it will be to a genuine big club in today's world not the football archives. 💪.

14.) 25 May 2016
25 May 2016 08:30:33
The goodison to be liverpools car park? What comic books are you reading. The new manager will have money to spend and any from player sales as if you read the real news and not comic books then you would have seen that as from February we now have a billionaire chairman. Don't know how 8 seasons equates to 12 years but 4th and 5th place finishes are not to be sniffed at. People need to realise that Martinez was a terrible manager and took us backwards but we still have a very strong squad, great youth set up, money to spend and with a half decent manager we have the potential to be challenging again. Not said Southampton don't, just found it funny that people said that we would be a backwards step as per our last 2 years, any forward thinking manager would see great potential in Everton. Fair play to koeman if he does stay as I stated on my first post I think he should and hopes he does.

15.) 25 May 2016
25 May 2016 09:25:39
It would be a backwards step because Southampton are in Europa league next season and Everton are not. I really can't simplify this any further. Unless a manager or a player can see the future and see that saints will certainly plunge down and out and Everton will end up in a better place there is literally no reason for him to give up European football for a team that's not. It would make more sense if Everton are currently in Europe as well but as it stands they are not. Sorry but I can't see it happening.

16.) 25 May 2016
25 May 2016 10:54:23
If you scroll up Vick, my first comment was in reference to comments about ox would surely join Southampton over Leicester as your bigger etc. and I pointed out that Leicester finished above you.

So you have settled my point with your last comment that you have Europa and we don't, so we're a backwards step. Leicester have champions league, you don't so if ox goes to you over them then it's s backwards step for him.
There are 2 or 3 managers I would prefer over Koeman, so best case scenario for all of us is he stays.

17.) 25 May 2016
25 May 2016 14:38:45
What a ridiculous argument. It is the break period between seasons 16/ 17 and 16/ 17. The approach for RK by Everton has been made during this time. At this time, which club is a better option for any manager? The answer is simple, due to the points made above. When I heard it the first time I thought it was a joke, and it is.

18.) 25 May 2016
25 May 2016 17:17:59
Fair point. Of course a player would choose a champions league club over a club in the Europa league. But a player with hindsight would think over how the future is going to pan out first. Will Leicester retain their consistency so that they can remain in the cl for years to come? Or will they drop out instantly, proving that their title winning season is merely a fluke? No one knows, since its been only one season. We have been consistent these past 3 seasons or so since we always finish higher than the season before. Same thing applies for Everton too. These two years for them could possibly a blip but they have to prove that by finishing stronger next season. But I am a man of my words and will admit that potential players will CURRENTLY see Leicester as a better prospect than Southampton. For the time being. With the cl playing a big part in that.

Play a dangerous game when you start saying we are better, we are this, we are that . whoever you support. Next year is going to be tough, for us moreso, balancing league with full Europa league. I'm keeping my mouth quiet and hoping for another great season.
