Saints should look at Michael Dawson would be a great signing for 9m, Adam Johnson 8m (as Ramirez deal has broken down), Steven Caulker loan and that should conclude our transfers for the summer.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

Won't get Caulker AND Dawson! Spurs need a defence too you know

Agree4 Disagree1

I would be more happy about johnson than ramirez my humble opinion

Agree2 Disagree2

Different styles. Ramirez exceptionally tricky and will be a nightmare for defenders. Also his left foot would be a great addition for free kicks. Johnson, very direct, pacy and an eye for goal. Either would be a brilliant signing. I think Ramirez is more likely as we have already tried Johnson some time ago.

Agree0 Disagree2

Qpr have agreed a fee and personal terms I think and dawsons having a medical there. We want get him unless qpr are as Good at transfers as we are

Agree0 Disagree1

That would be my 3 dream signings highly doubt even 1 of them will happen though

Agree2 Disagree0

Dawson is a great player but way too injury prone

Roumors have it that the deal is still on. Bologna are in real financial problems so they won't let this deal fall through.

So moving on from the ramirez rubbish, we need a CB RW and LB, who would you like to see, i think erik pieters of psv for 5 mil would be a great signing, susaeta at RW could be a good option as the is an exodus at bilbao after getting rid of the long term manager. and Cb im not really sure, douglas texiera would be nice but he may be out of reach.
Jas93

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Matt Phillips is our man - throw in Punch and Steve on loan That gives us Lee Jay Rickie Guly Billy and Matty up front

Midfield id fine Adam Corky Spider JWP Davis and Chappers

LB we have Fox and Shaw
RB is Nath and Rich
GK Kd and Gazza

So just Dann or Chaulker or Douglas at CB and we are just fine {Ed003's Note - They are overun with midfielders though,they need a striker}

Agree0 Disagree2

Lb martin or brett I forget olsonn might be too expensive but he has the strengths a dynamic lb needs and I think wants to leave, or danny rose dunno if he is going to played a lot or whats happening but he's worth it

Cb tbh not good at judging how good a cb is apart from like top 4 quality compared to rest of league apart from a few others,
in dream world it would Brett Hangeland and Steven Caulker.

Though would like to point out cbs are tuff one because its not like cm's a difference between a lcb and rcb matters so we might need two.

rw I dunno adam johnson but that's never going to happen maybe phillips not got a good knowledge of foreign wingers and it'll probably have to be foreign as I can really think of any really good british tricky wingers, I know iker munian is amazing but dunno if he would think saints would be a step down.

Agree0 Disagree2

I think sell De Ridder off. Get in Phillips (Possibly Ramirez but not certain that's going to happen). I'd like a Centre back who's Prem standard but not seeing who. I'd love Caulker or Shawcross but can't see either happening. Finally I think we should look for one more keeper a tad more experienced than Gazzaniga like a mid twenties keeper who has some top flight experience (not necessarily from England though).

Agree1 Disagree1

Players that id like to see come to saints and that i think are reasonabbly realistic are:

CB: Michael Dawson/Brede Hangaland/Curtis Davies. Plus possibly an older more experienced CB with prem experience who will be happy to sit on bench.

LB: Kieran Richardson or Danny Rose (on loan) preferrably rose on loan as im sure shaw will be first choice next season.

RW: Matt Phillips. Think its only a matter of time before this goes through.

Would also like to see a CAM but this is not a priority. Mark Davies of Bolton would be a good shout for this position or someone from the continent.

Agree1 Disagree1

Ild play both richardson and rose in midfield. how come you have them at left back ?

Regarding Ramirez, I'm hoping NC just needs to sleep on it and sort this out. Maybe a bit impulsive. On the other hand, this is the same agent that said we had already signed him last week. Perhaps it's games to speed us up or entice competition for the signing.

Very unimpressed with the way we are handling transfers. Something not right, and we seem to be falling out with anyone and everyone we negotiate with... Think about it... We even managed to fall out with Rangers and Palace over the signing of Davis and Clyne respectively. Whilst we might well be owned by Billionaires, the net spend on player transfers since NC took charge has been £3m... Not exactly a "statement of intent" as we are always hearing about and reading about from NC... Actions speak louder than words NC... So? What is it to be NC? Are we a STILL a selling club, or are we finally a BUYING club??... All the fans will know by Friday 31 August I guess...

Believable5 Unbelievable3

I agree with above although we have a good team we aint prem quality and we need to be to stay in prem cortese pay up had no prob taking money for ox and he has a long way from being finished and people say that was good bisness

Agree2 Disagree2

The only reason we aint sold shaw is because only a couple of mill was on offer if an offer comes thats any where nere ox he will be sold to

Agree2 Disagree1

And rightly so.... £15m for a 17 year old left back completely unproven at top level. We could replace with real quality for £5m e.g. Buttner £4m. £15m for Ox was brilliant at the time. Fresh out of league 1 - only saints with NC could have got that kind of figure. Everyone has their price. I have every confidence that no one will be sold on the cheap - you only have to look at Puncheon and Oxlade Chamberlain for that.

Agree1 Disagree0

Don't get the animosity about NC and the transfer situation... We've got four new players in. We aren't actually THAT bad! People are making it sound as though if no transfers go through it's the end of the world. Especially amusing when (lets be honest) most of us have no idea how good Ramirez, Buttner et al are anyway. Take a look on another clubs rumours page - notice how fans of almost every team are saying the exact same thing? That's modern football.

And look at QPR for an alternative, signing every aging, injury-prone, wage-heavy player available - wonder why those players are being sold?!

Plus this myth about us being one of the richest clubs in the country is just that, a myth, the Liebherr family's money is their money, not ours! NC and the Liebherr's are building Saints to be a sustainable club, and rightly so - we saw the club collapse in on itself only a few years ago...

Can we have some perspective please!?

Agree1 Disagree0

Since when did we fall out with Rangers and Crystal Palace?
Rangers were delighted that Cortese gave them compensation for Davis
We agreed compensation for Clyne plus Crystal Palace have Aaron Martin on loan.
I see no evidence of a fall out with either team.

22 Aug 2012 19:22:19
Look i dont wont to say told u so but i did say cortese
wont spend that type of money messed around all summer same as last season that is wot i meant buy
selling our old for top money but spending little to bring new faces in name a first team member that would make it in starting 11 in man city, man utd, chelsea, arsenal i bet good money not one

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Adam Lallana.

Agree6 Disagree5

Lallana would not WOULD NOT automatically step into man city, man utd, chelsea, arsenal,
wishfull thinking
lallana would be in england starting 11 if that was the case only young , downing ,johnson ahead of him

Agree4 Disagree0

I think Clyne would be a reasonable bet to get in to one of them. He's a top right back. United expressed interest last season.

Agree4 Disagree0

Clyne is good so is lallana but we need all 11 to be at that level

Agree4 Disagree0

Lallana is so much better than downing

I personally think Saints are being ridiculous. First they let the Buttner deal collapse after agreeing a fee and terms with the player because we grew impatient too quickly, now he's managed to sign with United?! Why couldn't we just have paid 3rd party like United did and then we'd have a Prem worthy left back!
And now we're letting Ramirez go because it's taking Bologna a little longer than expected to get the loan? That's rubbish. We have 9 days left of the transfer window and Bologna could easily sort it out by then. We don't want to watch another play go to a different Prem club just because Saints became impatient too quickly.
I know we put a great performance in on Sunday, but we can expect our boys to keep that up for 37 more games with our current squad. We needed Buttner, we need Ramirez.
It wouldn't surprise me if no new players came through the door between now and transfer deadline. It's frustrating.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Id put money on it that we sign absolutely no one iv'e had that feeling for a while

Agree7 Disagree5

I meant to say "we CAN'T expect"

Agree0 Disagree0

NO. Buttner and his agent stalled the deal to wait for an offer from man united because when we had the deal nearly wrapped up Red nose Ferguson informed them of Man Uniteds interest so we started looking elsewhere... If a big club like united come sniffing around we have no chance

Agree2 Disagree1

And we don't need Ramirez, we NEED a centre back! Rameriz would be a luxury

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Aug 2012 18:30:09
I'm not saying on whether the Ramirez deal is on or off, but you have got to remember this is the agent that said the deal had been completed in the first place (when it hadn't), it's obvious that he likes to play games.

Bologna are desperate for money, and claiming that Southampton have lost interest, and that Ramirez is not interested in moving to any other premier league club, would make them panic, and accept saints bid (in theory)

So we'll see, it seems strange to go so far into negotiations just to pull out at this stage.

On the other hand Cortese always wants to be stubborn in negotiation, and always in is control, and wouldn't be afraid to pull the plug on a deal.

Lets not jump to conclusions...

All this talk from people supposedly in the know, the facts are that SSN have been told by Ramirez's agent that the deal has now collapsed. That wouldnt be on SSN if it wasn't the case. Bologna have messed us about and wasted our time and I think it was a ploy for a move to a bigger club and wouldnt be surprised to see him at a big European club by September. Everything about this transfer window has been poor and after wasting so much time haggling with 3rd parties and instalment fees and all this rubbish, we are now looking at a week until the last day.

Are we the only team on the plante who cant secure a sodding transfer for a player atm! its all great almost signing people who are class players but what would be better is if we ATUALLY SIGNED THEM. thi is just another buttner, we have spent a week faffing about trying to sign him only to pull out when it looked like we were almost there.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

The agent of Gaston Ramirez expects the player to remain at Bologna after his proposed move to Southampton collapsed.

Ramirez was openly talking about a switch to the Premiership club last week, but the transfer has hit problems.

“Negotiations with Southampton have definitely ended,” Oscar Betancourt told Calciomercatoweb on Wednesday.

“I spoke with the President of the English club again today and they are now looking at other players.

“Ramirez was happy with the offer he received, but Bologna didn’t want to close the deal. I think, in all probability, that he’ll now stay where he is.”

So according to SSN the Ramirez deal is dead due to Bologna's financial troubles. It now looks likely Ramirez will be staying put. Think we need to lower our sights slightly and NC and NA dont seem to have the pulling power to attract any players higher than a good championship level.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

22 Aug 2012 15:13:42
Ramerezes agent claims talk have broken down with him and bologna. He says he spoke with NC and we are now looking elsewhere. This really annoys me as it's the 4th transfer that may not happen now, I know being in charge of the transfer is important but teams must look at this and see that NC values good business over the players not really an encouragement for potential targets.

Ramirez deal is off, southampton have pulled out of negotiations according to Ramirez's agent. Never mind, typical saints. Wether it's our fault or someone else's we don't seem to have much luck. Put the 12mil to good use and get Marty Phillips and at least one rock of a cb then, I feel, we won't be far off the mark. Scummerforlife

joe

Believable4 Unbelievable2

The Chairman's ego appears to be much bigger than the targeted players in terms of having the final say(knit-picking)- is that putting the club first? Somebody needs to be doing some soul searching - what happened to the ambition and how does this present SFC to the rest of the world, let alone potential targets? How many times will the targeted players/agents/ be blamed before the reality kicks in at where the buck needs to stop?

Agree3 Disagree2

22 Aug 2012 14:47:35
The Ramirez deal is off, on sky sports, the club couldn't accept our offer of spread payments as they are cash strapped and needed all the money in a lumb some after failing to secure a loan with a bank.
Why does all our targets this year get throw into the media then collapse and makes us look bad, not to say all also disappointed.
I dont see why there club would conisdwe selling him if they need a loan from a bank? Can someone please help with this?

Hope we bring someone in this week

Yet another twist in the Ramirez saga. His agent has today said that negotiations are off after talking to NC and that we're looking at another target as Bologna didn't want to close the deal without guarantees from their bank. I'm dissapointed but to be honest, very bored of the whole thing. Lets see who else we bring in.

So gaston deal is effectively all done. The only stumbling block is that due to the current economical climate it is hard for a club to secure a loan to assist with the repayment schedules for transfers which used to be simple but no longer is hence quiet activity this january from most clubs and only cash rich clubs spending big. I fully expect to se the name ramirez in a red shirt by the end of the week and hopefully soon enough to play in the game this saturday as i am going. So finally cortese seems to have the grit between his teeth and is knuckling down to force through signings, there isnt much more he could have done with this one, satisfying two clubs and a high profile player. COYS!

The only thing stopping the deal going threw now is bologna waiting to get a loan as they are cash strapped they are planning to use the southampton payments to payoff the loan as southampton aren't going to pay upfront. I'd like some input though on how often this happens that clubs get loans and what requirements they have to reach and how likely it will be to succeed

SamSFC {Ed001's Note - on the subject of loans, transfer moves used to be pretty much entirely funded by short term loans, until banks stopped providing them. That was why last January was so quiet, no loans were being given so clubs couldn't spend.}

Why aren't we interested in the Celtic goalkeeper? I know he has recently moved but surely if we were looking at butland he is off the same ilke, and a deal cheaper and I know your probably thinking he's too good but the club is going for gaston ramirez so there not afraid to go for big players.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

He just joined Celtic this summer. Last season he was on loan but he signed for about 2 million not too long ago.

I know but he has been known for a while and it just seems if we were interested in butland we would also have been into him, basically I think we shouldn't have pinned are hopes on butland because we had no back up

There was a deley on the Ramirez deal due to his previous club insisting on 30% of the deal but this has all been resolved and the switch is set to take place in the next couple of days.

I am very impressed with our signings so far and even more impressed with the names we are linked with. For me in priority order to step up from relegation candidates to pushing for top half -

CB - Davies (Brum) or unexpected European. (I'm confident Aaron Martin will be good squad player when he returns next season.)

LW / AM - Gaston Ramirez. With Lallana and Jay Rod all capable of playing winger or no.10 role, we have exciting interchange.

Striker - For me, I don't think I'm looking through rose tinted glasses when I see Lambert is genuinely cut out to be prolific at this level. Everyone compares him to Grant Holt, but for me there is far more to Rickie's game. His holding of the ball, vision and passing are perhaps more critical for us than his goals as he is the lynch-pin in most our attacks. Assuming Jay Rodriguez will be taking more of a wingers role, I do not see another striker on our books that could be prolific at this level. Harsh but true.

LB - To be honest I haven't seen enough of Shaw to give comment. In fact, no one has seen him against top opposition so he is obviously a hot prospect but for now, an unknown quantity. I do believe Fox will cost us points - I said so last season and he did - I said so all preseason and 1 game in, he has. Argue if you like, but surely we can do better.

RW - Someone like Philips would be great addition. De Ridder with quick feet and pace has great attributes but lacks the football brain and end product. Chaplow I like because you're guaranteed tenacity, but question marks on his on the ball quality. These 2 with Guly/Puncheon are decent back-up for the right and centre midfield, but we could do with someone striking a great partnership with the impressive Clyne.

GK - Everyone wants a top keeper so it will be a very shrewd signing (like Niemi was) or a lot of money. I like Davies but he has mistakes in him and I can't see him being between the sticks next season.

With the youth in our team and young signings we can keep this team together and they'll just get better and better for years. It is simple but brilliant what Adkins and Corteze have done and aspire to do.

As we improve, the more attractive we become. I do not see the purse strings being cut as long as NC is shrewd and buys to improve rather than for the sake of it like Man City. I really can see big money buys in the future to get us fighting for Champions League, but 1 step at a time. We will increase revenue with an expanded stadium and the continual influx of top quality youth as opposed to buying. The financial fair play rules will transform the standings in the league with only Arsenal correctly set up for the occasion. With top clubs spending beyond their means and having ridiculous wage bills, we are coming in at the perfect time to jump in on them.

Never been so happy as a saints fan. COYR!

Tony

Believable2 Unbelievable2

I agree with most of this.

I think you're forgetting that Sharp was red hot in preseason. Both him and Lee deserve a chance before we buy another striker, maybe test the water until January then get in a new striker if we need one.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

So play half the season with 1 good striker and gamble that if doesn't get injured or hope that Sharp can but it. Silly. It's plain to see Sharp is not top level.
