Say our budget for the summer is around £40m, who would be in your wish list? Mine would be:

Astori ( £8-10m)
Wanyama ( £10m)
Victor luiz ( £5m)
Son Heung Min ( £11m)
Scott Sinclair ( £5m)

Mini-Saint

Think we should look into the out of contract players to find some full back cover. Apparently some Spanish right back is free according to an article I read a while back but frustratingly can't find.
Other than that I'd like to see a good foreign striker to add a bit more flare to the attack for when Ricky isn't firing (We can't expect him to do it every game), a top standard new Centre back (Victor Ruiz would be perfect) and then I'd like to see more Premiership standard players filling the squad to give more rotation options. That would significantly boost our chances next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I would like.

ST Luis Muriel (Udinese) £10m
ST/AM Adem Ljajic (Fiorentina) £10m
CM Victor Wanayama (Celtic) £10m
CB Davide Astori (Cagliari) £8m
RB Jesus Gamez (Malaga) £2m

I might have slightly undervalued a couple to get them in under £40m. :P

Agree0 Disagree0

Jesus Gamez will cost more than 2m, and Astori will cost more than 8m

Agree0 Disagree0

I would like:

Cristian Tello (11 mil) - FOR
Jano Ananidze (9 mil) - MID
Terence Kongolo (4 mil) - DEF
Timo Horn (2 mil) - KEEPER
Filip Djuricic (14 mil + De Ridder) - AM

These prices are a little inflated but I can see clubs like Barça & Spartak Moskva asking for more than these players worth.

A list of quality players available on free transfer this summer:
CB Fernando Amorebieta (AthleticoBilbao)
DM Manuel Iturra (Malaga)
DM Mathieu Flamini (AC Milan)
LB Sylvain Armand (PSG)
LB Siaka Tiene (PSG)
CB Douglas (FC Twente)
FW Ryan Babel (Ajax)

Some of these could be quality signings especially on a free transfer, I especially think that Amorebieta (even though Arsenal want him), Iturra and Aramond would be particularly good additions as they would provide cover in key position and may be able break in our first 11, also I'd like to see Jesus Games (RB) 3-5m, Scott Sinclair 5-7m, Adrian 6-7m and the biggest coup would be Eric Lamela 15-18m, so we could have this team by spending 29-47m:

Boruc
Clyne Amorebieta Forren Shaw
Iturra Shneiderlin
Lallana Ramirez Lamela
Lambert
Subs:
Davies, Gamez/Aramand, Fonte/Yoshida, Cork, Sinclair/Puncheon, Rodrigues, Adrian

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Amorebieta has already signed for Fulham a while ago.
Douglas signed for some Romanian or Slovakian side recently.

Agree0 Disagree0

Douglas would be a great free transfer signing. He's be top priority out of that list to snap up. Think it's probably be worth snapping up one of the LB's as well for cover but I don't know much about either so won't claim one superior to the other.

Think other than that it's worth considering Flamini or Iturra, certainly not to take both but more Central Midfielding talent would be welcome. Could then get rid of Chaplow and have a Central midfield option set consisting of Cork, Schneiderlin, Davis, Ward-Prowse and one of them with Davis also capable of playing out wide. But not sure how keen they'd be on coming to us with us having them as options to play when really Cork and Schneiderlin would be the preferred options.

Just a note though better players than these are out there, they may not be free but we may need to look into options that aren't to keep pushing onwards and upwards.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh shame we missed out on him, he was the top CB available on free in my opinion

Agree0 Disagree0

You should watch Iturra on youtube, he'd be a top signing

Right heres a post for you.

Southampton have never been a small, we have always been a big club. When we went down we had some class players but they didn't live up to their ability that season, we went down in 2005 amd had massive problems. We have always been a big club maybe not due to our finish in the prem all the time but because we spent 27 years their last time, we also had big names at our club and come through your youth academy, one I know everybody will know is Alan S who played for newcastle and was probably one the beat strikers in the prem ever! Our academy is the best in england and works on bring british, ill repeat BRITSH! Youth through, unlike most clubs our youth players are watched on a daily bases, admittedly some players won't make it but ryan seager seems to be and up and coming strikee already putting 15-20 goals away at youth level in a season. Another reason we are not a small club is we have one of the biggest capations of support in country, but we don't all live right next to the staduim a lot of fans live in cornwall or places like that! We could easily have 40 thousand supports in our staduim maybe even 50 thousand but mkney speaks and to make a long journey and pay the money, look at the wembley trip for example I think it was at least 45 thousands fans that day and the other fans didn't fill up their side we could probably had more that day could of been around 50 thousand. Small club? At the moment yeah we are but it doesn't mean just because we are we can't sign big players, footballers like to be playing not sat on a bench and going to one of these so called big headed person of a club doesn't mean they automatically play so no we can sign some big names just not all and we wont. This is a rumour site so clue is in the name. Look at bayern municha and BVB they sell their tickets at low, low prises so get thousands of fans each gane 80 thousand for dortmand on avergae a game we could have about 60 I reckon if we had a well built, well placed staduim wih cheap ticket prises, yeah small club, no but half of these big clubs are supported by GLORY HUNTERS! We have real fans, so nobs who say we are small, do one you obv don't know footballl or its history!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

60 thousand fans I think you're dreaming. Where were they when we were in league one when the ticket prices were actually low, I'm going to say something you're probably not going to like but we have an aweful lot of plastic fans or fans who won't support our club when it needs us but when it suits them. I agree a well place stadium would be a very big attraction and I think a new one is needed to go forward, as the whole of Southampton comes to a standstill and if we do get European football then we do need a better placed stadium. However we can't spend on one now as if we don't get European football well end up doing a pompey basically betting on getting it and losing a load of money but In NC we trust.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's the same as any club though.

Any club relegated from premiership to league one would see a drop in fans. The fact we still averaged over 20,000 fans in league 1 shows our status.

We've got a potentially massive fan base. Yes there are some plastics. but so what? They still count as fans. You think Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs would maintain gates in League 1? No chance. The point is. of every club in the UK, Southampton does have the largest catchment area - FACT. We've been selling out a 32,000 stadium in the prem, and we don't look like getting relegated any time soon. Therefore there is no reason why we can't get up to 50,000 fans. We're the only club in the south outside of London - that is a massive, massive thing. That's why Cortese saw Saints as such a great investment, a sleeping giant. There were lots of clubs suffering administration and wanting new ownership around the time we were on the market. Cortese chose Southampton (and who can argue about how astute a business man he is?) because of our great youth set up and because of our potential fan base.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is a contentious one, on the one hand we all love to see a full stadium but then call them plastics, do they then become real?
just asking!

Agree0 Disagree0

God that must've been an effort, how long did it take to right all that? We're definetly not a small club, people just say it to wind people like you up haha, but I think we need to expand our stadium and keep going for big name players, signing Ramirez has proved we can and keeping pushing forward COYR!

Billy Sharp has tweeted that he has completed an agreement for a season long loan to Accrington Stanley. Surprises me but it comes out of the horse's mouth so must be true. Even includes a picture of him with James Beattie.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Seen that too. butit is a joke, billy was out with james beattie last night, and they couldn't resist the banter
