I would love us to sign Jamie Vardy in the summer. Been brilliant for Leicester this season

A lower league-quality forward who runs around a lot and rarely scores - didn't Saints already break the bank to sign one of those last summer?

Pelle's got 11 goals this season, after 15 games without scoring he's 'rubbish'. Vardy scores 4 all season and goes 23 games without scoring and he's been 'amazing'.

agree with Saintysaintsaint, he's scored some crucial goals for Leicester but he's pretty much a younger shane long, we need goals and he only has 4, much prefer Austin

As above think he meant Long not Pele

Point of order to qwertyell that Long is primarily an out and striker and is dangerous when played in that position. Koeman for some reason plays him out wide - his speed would be better going through the middle. With Rodrigues getting fitter and stronger and young Gallagher (who looks a good prospect) do we keep Pelle and Long and if we do then we have a strong attack to choose from. Apparently the Molde goalkeeper is on our radar with a cheap buy out clause could be a good bit of business. Late congratulations to AFC Bournemouth who will be a welcome South Coast Derby. They need to up the attendance as soon as possible. Another test for us next with an away visit to Leicester but I still fancy our chances. COYR's

Shane Long an out and out striker? In his entire ten-year career, he's broken double figures for the season once. In the Championship.

He's got some front calling himself a striker.

Ask any West Brom supporter and they would have him back even though Benteke is starting to score again. Long will run all day and drag defenders all over the place creating room for others along the back line of the opposing team. Yes he hasn't been a 20 plus goal scorer but his contribution makes up for this. When he has the opportunity to play through the middle his link up play with Pelle has been good.and often excellent. Still don't understand why Koeman has played Long out wide so often when we have natural wingers in the squad. Also he doesn't get enough playing time when Pelle seems to do nothing wrong. I'd love to see Long start with Pelle on the bench and see what he does. Didn't realise that Long called himself a striker enough to upset qwertyell. Perhaps qwertyell should don the red and white stripes and show Shane how's it done. Easy to ctiticise from the touch line. COYRS's

If everyone's opinion is automatically invalid unless they're a current professional footballer, they might as well close this site down.

Let's hope West Brom would love to have Long back. After they lose Berahino in the summer, they should be able to afford the handful of buttons Long is worth to replace him.

It's not much of an endorsement for Saints' "black box" technology that someone punched their desired attributes into the machine and it came back with the answer: Shane Long. I wonder what the software's second choice was? Or even if they were a footballer. Or alive.

Should be fun to see what it comes up with to replace Scheiderlin. Karl Henry? Carlton Palmer? Maybe it'll be Shane Long again. Perhaps that's the result it comes up with for every equation.

Seems a bit unfair qwertywell, Long works tirelessly and has played well this season, we needed another striker who was versatile enough to play as either a wide forward or a central striker and Long fits the bill, I agree I'd like to see him played up top more often as he was great against Chelsea, his link up with Mane was excellent

@Paddysketch 1. I didn't realise that Benteke was now playing for West Brom. When did that happen?

Sorry teejaysaintdidn I didn't mean west Brom - bit of a faux pas. Oh dear oh dear qwertyell had a bad hair day. No one said your opinion or any one else is invalid. Your criticism of Long is your right but Cynical. Long is a good honest professional and will run all day as St Sam agrees. Like I said get behind our team and moan in the pub after not during the match. Newcastle players are getting uncomfortable before and during their matches and this will do their confidence no good at all. Wouldn't want this to happen to our squad. I've followed the comments posted by qwertyell for a while now and all his comments are more negative than positive. Come on qwertyell loosen up if you are a genuine supporter like me who has followed the boys for nearly 55 years. Post something positive about Southampto F.C. Give them the praise they deserve.

Well here we go again. I'm just as disppointed with our drop off. We don't look so solid any more those barracking Fraser Forster should note. Also note Clyne has gone absent since England callup and Manchester United tap up. No more runs and crosses nothing like early season. Morgan when playing has been ho hum since Xmas. Tadic has been carrying a groin strain since his first international break last year. You may disagree but look at the games carefully.
There are a bunch of you who wouldlove to be in Pompeys position. Fans Get to pick the team every week and hire and fire managers and what a pigs ear they are making of it. We have a good owner, board and manager who will address much of this next year. I have bought my ticket and can't wait. Just hope we can keep ahead of swansea

I think Clyne's off mainly due to his body language. When JWP got his red card, NC pulled his socks up and walked back to the edge of the box whilst Toby, Fonte, Yos were doing their nut at the ref. Just an observation that made me think 'he ain't staying'.

First season with Koeman and hasn't he done well Far far too many so called supporters moaning and ctiticising the team. It's sad to see and unwarranted after the upheaval before the start of the season. Don't these doughnuts understand that teams at the bottom are fighting for premier survival and will pose more danger than teams that are already safe and nothing to play for. Look at our neighbours Pompey getting over 17000 at their last home game and show more support for their team even though they are in the 2nd division. It hurts me to say this but they have supporters that show more loyalty to their club than ours. STOP this insane criticism and get behind them and pack St Mary's to the rafters in our last home game and give them the support they deserve. COYR's
