Heard an interesting rumour that we were in for Salomon Kalou perhaps on a loan in January and that this may yet still happen in the summer. The problem was that FIFA rules state that a player cannot play for more than two clubs in a season and he had already played for two.
The source is very close to him and the information was kept very quiet.

Not saying that this would be good or bad. but all I know the source is genuine and he appeared to know what he was telling me as fact.

Do you not think that Saints supporters are in general viewing this summer in a glass half-empty kinda way. Let's start to be more positive and even suggest 'Optimistic'.

Fact - We will have FAR better attacking options already than last season when at times we wondered where the goals were coming from. Sure the defence may still need some 'Tweaking' but if we can score a few more, then the defence I might offer up - would not have to even be as strong as we were last year!

JayRod - Back with us and hopefully itching the make amends for last year.

Juanmi - An undoubted class act and someone who will add a different attacking option.

Mane - Got to be spurred on on from his start last year where he just got better and better.

Long - He too looked better as the season went on. A fabulous performance against Villa showed his class.

Ramirez - He's been in the wilderness for a while. He's rested during a long lay-off for him and he will have to perform in what will be 'make or break' for him.

Tadic - Hopefully, his groin problem has been sorted out. There hasn't been much publisised about his injury. But I'm sure he knows that he'll have to perform given the additions to the squad

Pelle - Knows that he will be under more scrutiny this year and with additional options available, a dry-spell as he had mid season last year might just mean dare I say it - He'll be dropped for someone else this time! Hopefully, we'll see the best from him. He's a seasoned international now!

And there are other 'Maybes' such as Sam Gallagher who also had a long lay-off in the u21's last year and is due a run again with the seniors.

I'm minded to just wait and see what will develop and give the management some time to sort out a few defensive options. I have faith and won't be panicking. just yet.

Fantastic post Saint Moose, nice to put a positive spin on what will be a dark day for some!

2.) 08 Jul 2015 10:58:32
I agree, the forward options are looking pretty decent. But the further back you look, the more worrying the squad appears.

They have only three proven PL midfielders - Schneiderlin, Wanyama and Davis - and at least one of them is off. Ward-Prowse and Reed have shown promise, but Koeman has been reluctant to start them when everyone's available. That's a seriously thin pool. Alderweireld ended up filling in in midfield for part of the season, such were the lack of options. And now he's gone.

They didn't replace Cork. They didn't even replace Taider. It's not a strong area of the squad, even before Morgan leaves.

And then the defence: Four of last season's back five won't be starting this season (Forster, Clyne, Alderweireld and Bertand). That's a massive concern, any way you shape it.

For me, they obviously need a quality centre back (I have nightmares of them signing Ron Vlaar on a free), and at least two central midfielder starters.

3.) 08 Jul 2015 12:56:40
Sort of agree Querty but Ron Vlaar is worth having on a free he is a quality player and although not that young anymore he would be a good addition to the squad. We do need a top and younger CB though but we may struggle to get one if we won't pay top dollar . I think we might have a battle on our hands this season if the club doesn't pull it's finger out .

I am a Saints fan and proud. Proud of the shirt, the club and all that is red and white. Whilst I do not necessarily agree that every bit of business that has been carried out thus far is good business, I have been really disappointed at the reaction of a large number of Saints fans and their attitude towards the club and its 'management'.

We are all hugely disappointed at what has happened since May when we all felt another year and a few additions would see us push onto a European stage. But let's not forget that our board and new management didn't threaten to walk out. It was a few greedy individuals who showed no loyalty to the club that we love so much that caused the start of any problems.

The board employed RK who generally is as good a replacement as we could hope for, to replace that scab Pochedoodaa. . So Koeman has been entrusted with getting a new squad together.

You can see that he (they) are trying to hire better than average players in the main but the 'best of the best' don't want to come and want to go to the supposed 'bigger clubs'. That cannot be helped. It is fact. So the bottom line is that we are only going to get the best of the rest. So live with it and stop giving out gobfuls of shite whenever you don't like a decision that;s been made.

I for one am applauding their efforts made so far. Give 'em a break and let's as a whole group of fans start to get behind Koeman, the board and all the squad that is assembled WHOEVER IT MAY BE and in a few days time, we may be pleasantly surprised. If it starts badly, then the boys will need some time. Let's not panic and ask for heads to roll.

After all the ins and outs in the squad, man-for-man are we any worse off. really than in May, other than needing a central defender to replace F*** face Lovren. The new guys stat-wise are more than a match for those departing. So don't panic.

Personally I'd like to thank KL and the board so far in sticking with the programme and re-investing. just like they promised. I'm looking forward hopefully to proving wrong some of my non-Saints mates and non-believers. I;ve still got 3 Saints players in my fantasy team!

1.) I like all the above comment I think the signing of the season will prove to RK much better than Loch more nowse more experience better all around manager so well done the board for signing him. Football is a team game not just a bunch of superstars cobbled together. RK will turn us eventually into good TEAM.

2.) 14 Aug 2014 10:08:03
St Moose at last someone with the right attitude and speaking the facts as they are. Too many so called supporters trying to make life as difficult as possible for RoKo and the board. It is our football CLUB that matters not individual players who have literally got too big for their boots. I am going to be unpopular I know but I include SRL in this, I have met him and he is a great guy and still a very good player. However if he thinks he will be running out at Anfield on a regular basis he is going to be sadly disappointed. He should have stayed with us and although probably wouldn't get so much game time as last season would still be making useful contributions in the Premier League. Going to get hammered I know but this exodus all started with Rickie, I am not blaming him but just maybe it was the catalyst that got the rest of the prima donnas thinking about the big time. I remember the days of Mike Channon who was probably our best player ever including Le Tiss, he was Saints through and through but eventually succumbed to the big lights and went to Manchester City and to be honest was never the same player again. Just maybe Koeman knows better than most of us what is going to work with the players he has available and if it doesn't start off too well please don't get the rope out and sling it over a tree, give him a bit of time.
I wonder how many remember sitting 5 years ago in the bitter cold watching Hartlepools ( sorry Jeff )
and thinking we have got to win this one. Not very long ago is it, in a nutshell we have probably come too far too fast and have been the victim of our own success. I would like if possible the Ed to put Saint Moose's post on the rumour site, I think it would interesting to see how many people actually agree with him. If it turns out negatively I really think we have a lot of people on here who are not true Saints supporters. We need people supporting our CLUB no matter what which I think many people that comment on here actually do. The alternative to what we have at the moment if some of you got your way and got rid of the board and the owner is pretty frightening. Keep on their back and you might live to regret your lack of support.

3.) Could't agree more. We have bought some good players, we have a v good manager. it may take a while to click, but stay positive. We don't want moaners on this site, constructive comments are ok! Heres to an interesting season!!

4.) I agree with StMoose and Chrisdownj the so called fans who have been whining on this site since before Roko signed on are just a disgrace to Southampton. Our team will finish around 10th this year and if Roko doesn't get too pissed off with these people and stays for a second season we will be top 6. I will not bother to log on to this site again until our 10th game to say I told you so. These people contribute nothing. If they pissed on the pitch instead of the management we might get something worth having from them

I'm just getting ready to head down to Swindon for this evening's friendly. And yes it's a friendly but I have that 'excited' feeling all over again. the same feeling I get before every match.
I'm going to hopefully see Saints' youngsters with the new additions and the remaining regulars.
Am I getting het up, annoyed or concerned that some of our 'stars' are leaving? Will it stop me enjoying the moment? The answer is NO. Slight disappointment maybe.
I have faith in the kids coming through. I believe that we do not WANT to sell our big names but that if for WHATEVER reasons they have and they want to leave, then provided we are well financially compensated, then we move on. We get on with what we have got, get behind the team and give them some support.
Let's look to the future and stop getting down on the board/management (who I'm sure are doing ALL they can to push us forwards).
We support the Saints because its in the blood and whomever wears the STRIPES. we love and will continue to encourage. Would Guly have gotten his cheers and plaudits at other clubs?. probably not.
We are a small club whether we like it or not and will never have the finances to compete. We will never buysince we could never afford a ready made Iniesta or Messi. but we have something special in our water. We manage somehow to develop our youth with the right opportunities into great footballers. This may be our chance to really back them. Staplewood is better than most other clubs in the entire country. that will also help. If we spend. let us hope we predominently buy players WITH POTENTIAL and who are YOUNG with the odd spattering of experience aka Davis/Pelle.

Let's stop getting on the backs of those that make the decisions. Trust them and see where it leaves us. Our time has come

Small club? are you on something. 4th largest spenders in the transfer market last year and one of the best academies in the world. No offence but if you want to make out that we can not compete in the PL with most other clubs I think you have lost the plot. You mention Messi, Iniesta etc. not even City or Utd could sign them. Sorry but I just think you have a defeatist attitude which is exactly what we don't need at the moment. No offence honest but look to the future with hope.

2.) I'm going tonight with a mate who is a STFC season ticket holder. He asked me what Saints stars we would play and he would see tonight - when I told him, he looked pretty blank! He looks pretty blank most of the time, but to be fair, it did make me think that we're a bit lightweight in the Prem experience stakes.

3.) Saint moose you have what we psychologists call delusional optimism.

Have you heard that Brenda has put in an offer for both the last two year's playing kit. He wants to make all the Saints boys feel at home and try and further entice Lovren and Rodriguez.

I reckon we should sell both sets for £25Million (including the shorts and socks). After all, we are back in stripes now and won't need them.

Mind you last year's kit being similar to the Arses might spark up a bidding war between them. We might get £35 Million!

Or we could tell 'em both now to do one and source their own. After all we're not a selling club are we?

Saint Moose

1.) 14 Jul 2014 13:01:16
I would have though it a lot easier if Brenda Rogers just became our coach, rather than the drip, drip transfer of our squad to Piddlepool.

2.) 14 Jul 2014 15:31:47
do you really think rogers is good enough
i think not even the worlds worst manager would look good if he had millions to spend
look at mancini and others who have got the sack

3.) I remember a Victoria Wood sketch taking the P. out of Mia Farrow & her multi coloured adopted kids, ( like selecting sweeties) " I`ll have a black one a yellow one. "
Brendan is doing the same " I`ll have a striker, a midfielder, another striker. "
we really are getting pi££ed off now Brendan!

Would many of the sceptics have taken where we are the moment, at the start of this season?. I think not.
We have got to where we are in the main by using the youth coming through mixed with what we had already + Lovren and Wanyama. (Forget about the Italian/Argentinian t****r)

We are ninth in the league and unlikely over the course of the next few games to go up or down so why not leave alone and give some of the youngsters a chance. let's blood a few more and give them some more experience. With less pressure on the squad in not needing to avoid relegation or to qualify for Europe, let's the Saints lads show what they can do without worrying about having to buy overpriced overrated foreign 'stars'.
Keep the faith boys and girls. Show everyone this 'Southampton Way' can work. COYS

League Position - 4th (missed out on 3rd on the final day)
Europa - semis (lost on penalties due to a Tadic 'girly-shot')
Top Scorer - Pelle/Jay Rod tie (Jay Rod on EPL goals)
Young player - Reed
FA Cup (Final win) - 5-0 against Spurs (last own goal by that Belgian defender I can't spell)
Capital One Cup - opening round - (played a really young side against Champ team)
Best Buy - Clasie (Massively successful)
Worst - Martina (aka Ali Dia's second cousin)

The eternal optimist!

I like the look of Harry Kane and at 21 yrs old, he has plenty to offer if we were to get him.
However. Do we really think that Spurs will let him come without either Jay Rod or Morgan going the other way? . No chance.
I don't think that any right minded Saints fan wants to see either leave in January but. and it should be considered. and if the summer taught us anything, we should perhaps trust Roko and the board a little more without all the 'Gnashing of teeth and feet stamping' that we as Saints fans, did then.

We don't WANT to see anybody leave but because we don't NEED to sell, we've got a massive advantage if Spurs or Arsenal come a'calling. Harry Kane might be one who would lessen the blow should the Jay Rod romour go ahead. One thing is for certain. Any deal would be financially beneficial to us and at the same time we might not be any worse off if KANe came the other way.
In Roko I trust but for the moment I am enjoying 'living the dream' that is our beloved Saints. Long may it continue with fingers crossed for a second victory against Stoke tomorrow.

The end of October. on a windy evening at Stoke. Somebody'd better warn Fraser Forster. still at 6'7" tall, he should be able to cope better with a bouncing ball over his head.

I'd also be worried about Sadio Mane there. He looks as if a few puffs of wind will blow him over. He did tend to keep falling over on a still night at the Emirates!

Otherwise, I'm looking forward to it. Would rather Stoke away at this stage than Chelsea or Man City.

Just glad RK seems to be taking the Cup Competitions seriously. A great idea given that with every game our boys just seems to get better.

In short. No

We're starting to look reasonably adept at the back. With cover as well.
Gardos looked confident on Saturday, Alderweireld looked supreme last week and Fonte looks determined. Yoshida is a great back up so . No thanks!
If the chance arrives, then we can also blood new youngsters although its disappointing to see that the U18's and U21's haven't had the best of starts this year.
I do hope we have even younger talent in the wings at youth level!
