According to tomorrow edition of Corriere dello Sport, Real Madrid and Napoli found a deal for Higuain for 35m . News to verify

If that's true, I find it hard to believe Napoli will spend all of the rest of their Cavani windfall on just one player, ie Damiao

Could leave the way clear for Saints now?

St Ripper

1.) Stop kidding yourself

2.) No, damiao won't be sold, we all need to move on
BB

3.) Move on. boring

4.) No, they've given up on Damiao as Internacional won't sell him, apparently we've also given up.

5.) Let it go

6.) Who needs damiao, we got the Guly!

7.) If saints really wanted him, i'm sure a deal would have been in place by now

8.) Benitez did state he was after both, and has not only the cavani money but the €60m they had to spend before.
Also I would forget about damiao, the inter president publicly said a couple of days ago that they will keep him til after the World Cup as he will be worth even more then. Also if you were damiao, would you risk losing out your place in the brazil squad to join saints who are in no European competition. If I was a player, playing in my home nations World Cup, going in as one of the favourites, I would do everything possible to be in that squad. Imo, joining saints would be too risky
Saint smiff

9.) Some interesting and seemingly tired views out there on Damiao? Am not sure why though. The common theme of our big signings have been that we have persisted to get the player that we want. For example with Wanyama and also Ramirez, who pretty much took us the whole of last summer to sign, even though people (eg Lwarenson) said it wouldn't happen.

None one seems to have any facts, maybe with the exception that Damiao would never replace Guly.

The comment that "we have moved on". Where have you read that, or actually, have you just made it up? As per the other speculation about Interncionals views about selling him. To me it has sounded very similar to the stuff said by Lennon when were were negotiating with Celtic. Providing reasons of why they may not sell him, make him appear indespensible, simply to ensure they get the best deal for their club. All fair enough.

Deals like this will always be complicated, particularly the contractual elements and who will be involved. Its not like popping down to the supermarket to pick up a new mass produced World Class striker and a fixed price.

I think we are in full on for Damiao or we would have already identified and probably completed an easier signing by now, and there is no real indication we have bid for anyone else.
Anyone have any fact based media reports to the contrary?

10.) Sains Smiff, to support my view, here is the sky report from Internacional.

All he is saying is that they could and should keep Damiao. That is a long way from ruling out a move for him. Particularly as Inter are working hard to sign a replacement for him.
Sounds more to me like he is saying the ball is in Damiao's court and that he is advising him that if he doesn't leave, other chances will come his way.

"Internacional president Luis Cesar Souto de Moura, who has recently seen his club have a bid for Nilmar rejected, believes Damiao will now be staying put.

"If Al-Rayyan can keep Nilmar, we can keep Leandro Damiao, even if there is a big offer, " Moura told Radio Bandeirantes.

"It's silly to sell Leandro Damiao this year, he has the chance to play the World Cup and improve at a personal and professional level.

"We are confident and we understand that he can wait another year, play the World Cup, increase his value with the national team and then be transferred and have other opportunities. "

11.) Brazil's transfer window closed yesterday (20th July) Unless the deal is already done, he is staying

12.) St ripper, maybe I was a little too quick to say saints should move on. Just look at the facts though:
He is in brazil squad playing for inter
World Cup only one season away
Napoli are interested and have money
We are interested and have money
Napoli are playing in Europe
I personally think damiao would have s choice of two teams should they decide to sell. Us and Napoli. Spurs wouldn't want to compete financially. But if we did pull this off I would be more than happy to admit I was wrong. I didn't think waynama would sign after all!

13.) All true. My gut feel is that we will pull at least one more serious rabbit out of the hat. We all know that we need an additional striker and it is likely to be an eyebrow raiser, if our current pattern continues.
But other than Osvaldo, who I just can't believe we will go for, there don't appear to be any other credible links

14.) Osvaldo is starting to look more likely now. Apparently fans showed up at his training camp with banners aimed at him calling him a coward. Russia too far but maybe saints would be a new challenge. Still would prefer damiao though

Interesting rumour popped up about Cork for 6m to Everton. I could believe this if Saints own rumoured targets come off

St Ripper

1.) Why would we sell cork for 6 million and buy someone to replace him for 15 million. he's young English and will only get better don't think this will happen at all

2.) Selling cork would be madness. Did you not notice we were bottom before he came back from injury? Class player should be in the England team for that engergitic, mobile, tackling midfielder with stevie G but Woy's never heard of Southampton and chooses Rodwell and Henderson instead.

3.) Young, English, does the simple stuff which keeps things tight, but that's it I'm afraid. There's scope to improve with a bit more flair or wider range of passing.

4.) He is also currently our 2nd choice RB if Clyne gets injured.

5.) St Ripper-Allen £15m, Cork £6m?

Still believe it?

Saint Martin

6.) I'm surprised at you St Ripper. You know we are building our squad and the fact someone has linked him with Everton as Fellaine's replacement says enough about his ability.

You should have seen Vela play at St Marys in pre season friendly. He is bad news. Poor for the team, disruptive and an inflated ego. A bit like Ed001 who chose not to post my response to him yesterday clarifying that.

St Ripper

{Ed001's Note - actually I mistakenly left out your ridiculous post after typing up a long response pointing out how stupid it is to judge a player off one match, let alone a friendly match. Now please grow up as the arrogance on these pages has already reduced it down by a number of editors, who refuse to touch it because of the likes of you. It will be the last time I waste my time discussing anything with clueless persons like yourself, as you have nothing to offer the discussion, bar ignorance.}

Badstuber out with Cruciate Ligament injury since December 2012. An unlikely signing, assuming he ever recovers properly?

Ramirez not going anywhere.

Interestingly Ed001, that's your opinion, not a fact. An inaccurate one I believe. Other players haven't settled but still perform when they do play. Vela did little to nothing at Arsenal on the appearances he had. A bit of a Chamakh really.

St Ripper

{Ed001's Note - my opinion is based on actually watching the player throughout his career, backed up by the fact he has played well since leaving Arsenal. Whereas yours is based on ignorance of him, quite clearly, as most Arsenal fans were not happy about him leaving, due to him being highly rated by them. Nothing like Chamakh, which is a ridiculous comparison to make of two totally different players with so little in common it is nonsensical to compare them.}

Are you talking about Carlos Vela, who was a massive flop in the Premier league and with an attitude as inflated as Bendtner.
Yes, let's get rid of our high scoring Italian international for a guy who only scores against weak Spanish opposition! Genius call

St. Peter, Gazza, Donola Cocacola and Saint MW.
The only ones to give your names who also have something balanced and sensible to say.
That is actually "what says it all really" above any criticism of our players.

Gaston, potentially a great player for the future. Hope he stays with us for the long hall and improves in line with the rest of our squad

Up the Saints
