Hi Ed’s. Lots of rumours going round that we are close to completing the signings of both dragowski and Djenepo. Can you clear the air as to how correct these rumours are?

SaintIslander

{Ed002's Note - I would not want to comemnt on both but my notes say:
Bartlomiej Dragowski (G) Huddersfield looked to BD in January but he opted to move to Empoli on loan. Since then a number of clubs have looked at him including West Ham, Schalke, Roma, Southampton and Genoa, with Schalke and Southampton having spoken with Fiorentina.
Moussa Djenepo (LW) Standard Liege have confirmed the interest of Milan, RB Salzburg after being informed by his agent. Southampton will see him as a cheaper and younger option option to Andre Schurrle who has again been considered.}

1.) 03 Jun 2019 09:41:18
Anything concrete about the aron mooy rumours ed?

{Ed002's Note - Aaron Mooy (CM) seen by Watford as first choice above Mady Camara; Newcastle as a Cairney alternative; seen by seen as too expensive by Norwich; West Ham want Ceballos or Vazquez and would be disappointed if they had to settle for Mooy; Wolves apparently considered him but an advisor did not see the value given his age and asking price; I am not aware of Southampton declaring any interest but Rogic and Aribo remain targets - but are looking unlikely.

2.) 03 Jun 2019 11:54:37
Not convinced we should be looking for a CM personally, unless we sell someone that is. Lemina's return and promise at the end of the season would make him feel like a new signing given that he wasn't involved in any of the improvement we showed last season, while Slattery seems ready to get more involved. That'd give us Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Lemina, Romeu, Armstrong and Slattery as main contenders for 2/ 3 positions.

If the right holding midfielder was available, that can do Romeu's defensive job while providing a bit more passing/ creativity in attack/ build up, then that'd be the one that can improve us.

3.) 03 Jun 2019 12:01:37
Cheers ed ta 😊.

4.) 03 Jun 2019 21:10:08
Can’t see any ins till some outs need a striker che adams👍 And possibly a centre half although bednarek and vestergard look first choice with Bertrand as back up in left side. Everyone fit and in form can see 7-8 out and just 2-3 in.

HI ed’s. I was wondering if you are able to give us information as to how good the appointment of Martyn Glover as Chief Scout is? At first glance he appears to be a rather uninspired choice. Though part of me wonders how much responsibility he bares for the poor recruitment at both Sunderland and Everton during his respective tenures.

SaintIslander

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure why you are uninspired or what your expectations are, but I cannot help a great deal as I don't know Martyn Glover, and I know little about him. Certainly it makes sense to get out of Everton where the Director of Football effectively demoted him and the owner is taking advice from a third party which is problem. As far as I know he is well respected and he was at West Ham at one time and you might get a better answer from their fans. Sorry I cannot really help.}

1.) 21 Apr 2019 13:37:05
Thanks Ed. Appreciate the response.

16 Jan 2019 15:57:36
Are either the Augustin or Orban rumours true Ed’s? Imagine getting either out of Leipzig would be prohibitively expensive.

SaintIslander

{Ed002's Note - Orban is not available as far as I know. They are sick of the sight of Jean-Kevin Augustin and would sell for the right price.}

1.) 16 Jan 2019 18:09:18
Seen £38m quoted as the price tag - that’d well and truly rule us out.

2.) 16 Jan 2019 23:52:20
Yea didn’t think that we would pay out that much money. S.

3.) 17 Jan 2019 06:50:58
Thanks Ed for the info. I feel a little bit nervous that we are not getting anyone in during this transfer window, but we desperately need 2-3 players in to strengthen our squad. Any other rumours on players joining us, Ed? Augustin would be an excellent signing!

13 Jan 2019 11:51:13
According to the Scottish Sun Saints are trying to hijack Leeds £400,000 deal for 16 year old Motherwell winger Stuart McKinstry. More one for the future I imagine but a rumour nonetheless.

Hi Ed’s, I understand you must be busy this time of year but I was wondering if you have any information on potential incomings to St Mary’s. Very little news in this regard and any information we do have seems to possess very little in the way of concrete evidence.

SaintIslander

{Ed002's Note - Gabbiadini out - interest in Thiago Mendes, Danny Drinkwater, Thomas Goiginger, Shoya Nakajima, Lookman and Toloi. Edin Dzeko - an enquiry has been made and Danny Ings (S) loan to permanent.}

1.) 09 Jan 2019 06:43:37
Lookman would be exactly the player we need imo - young with huge potential, but capable of adding much needed pace and energy this season as well.

Don't know too much about a few others, but really not convinced by Drinkwater.

{Ed002's Note - Don't worry about Drinkwater, he will move elsewhere.}

2.) 09 Jan 2019 08:19:19
Drinkwater!? God no. Please NO!
Dzeko would be fantastic. Don't really know much about the others but seems nakajima looks promising from what I've read. Lookman seems very hit and miss for Everton.

I
Ed I thought the deal for ings to be made permanent was in the coming summer? . if they are looking to make it permanent now would the reason be to free up more loan places or to loan another player from Liverpool?

{Ed002's Note - Yes the summer, these are not related to any particular transfer window.}

3.) 09 Jan 2019 10:50:20
Thank you ed. Appreciate the info as always.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome. Nakajima and Lookman are where we might see a push.}

4.) 09 Jan 2019 13:59:49
Would be very excited if we could sign Lookman in Particular. However from what I’ve read Everton seem as though they’d drag their feet and be unwilling to sell. The worst part about being a Saints fan is the deafening silence that always surrounds our potential incomings!

5.) 09 Jan 2019 12:00:46
Thanks Ed for the good info once more! Any other outs than Gabbi? I understood Ralph thinks our squad is too big. How about Long, Austin, Cedric, Hoedt out?

{Ed002's Note - Wesley Hoedt if a buyer is out there would be the most likely.}

6.) 09 Jan 2019 17:06:58
Great info ed. Thanks. Hoedt out for 8-10 mill would mean taking a 5 mill hit. but he really doesn't seem to be in RH plans.

{Ed002's Note - You are right,

7.) 10 Jan 2019 04:08:29
I’d be happy with who ever Ralph brings in based on the way he’s started off his Southampton managerial career
This wouldn’t have the les reed seal of approval and would probably be our best signing or singnings for some time

After being linked with two of their players and, having already seen a number of their players do well in the premier league, I wonder if the board are looking at Phil Giles of Brentford as a possible replacement for Les Reed. His ability to continuously buy cheap and sell high would fit the club perfectly IMO.

SaintIslander

1.) 14 Jan 2019 23:35:34
Very good shout, he is defiantly the type of d of f we need.

2.) 15 Jan 2019 08:24:17
Definitely!

11 Jan 2019 14:42:45
Something about which we’ve heard very little is who exactly is in line to replace Les Reed at the club. It’s good their taking their time to ensure they are making the right decision. Just curious as to how long a decision will take to be made, and who will fill the role. This is arguably the most important signing the club will make for the next few years and we must get it right.

SaintIslander

1.) 11 Jan 2019 16:23:19
If they are looking to fill the role left by Les Reed I agree and I felt that it would be a gamble employing a new head coach without having that role filled if the club was to maintain the same structure behind the scenes.

But when we were being linked with Hassenhutl I think it was the Telegraph who reported that the board were not looking to bring someone in with the same role as Les Reed as it felt he was spread too thin. I presume that with Ross Wilson and our new Head Coach, who has an eye for talent and a clear mind of the type of player he wishes to recruit, working together a DOF may not be necessary.

2.) 11 Jan 2019 16:29:53
Seen Fournier of Nice start to be banded about a bit. Though our last signing from Nice didn’t turn out to be an overwhelming success. we shall see.

3.) 11 Jan 2019 19:26:54
I believe the Fournier rumour wa rubbishd earlier today by Adam Leitch. I have no idea what it’s like behind the scenes of a premier league club, but if we weren’t to sign a director of football I would worry that we are spreading ourselvelves a little thin in the area of recruitment.

4.) 11 Jan 2019 23:40:51
Although on the Fournier rumour I believe it would be a very welcome addition, with his extensive knowledge of the French game and Ralph’s knowledge of the game in Germany we’d be well placed to scoop up promising young talent from two nations that are arguably producing the best young players in the world at the minute.

11 Jan 2019 00:57:59
Interesting Ralph said we had a couple of transfers in the pipeline during his press conference earlier. Maybe I’m just being hopeful here, but could this possibly mean we don’t need to sell before we can buy? I mean if we have to wait to offload players lIke FF and Hoedt we may be waiting all window, don’t imagine to many clubs are interested.

SaintIslander

1.) 11 Jan 2019 09:34:24
Or it could mean we've sold. Gabbi and Davis have gone, which would have freed up a space in the squad.

2.) 11 Jan 2019 10:02:29
I’m more referring to the idea that’s been banded about for ages that we have no money. With Gabbi and Davis leaving we’ve gained very little in terms of free cash flow right now. If it’s true we are potentially buying a couple players this window it would show we aren’t as financially limited as many of our fans seem to think.

3.) 11 Jan 2019 21:48:00
I think there is still some money coming in from Liverpool from the VDV transfer so it may be we have the money recouped from Gabbi, Davies and VDV to spend. How much that is, no idea, but everyone from the board to RH himself has been very clear that money is tight and we need to sell to buy. Don't forget transfers can also refer to loan deals as well. I wouldn't read to much into it either way. If we get people in great, if not its because we don't have the funds, the player didn't want to come or the right player didn't pop up. I trust our current recruiters to only bring in the right people.

4.) 11 Jan 2019 22:15:35
It was mentioned before that the next instalment for VVD would be waived as a fee in exchange for Ings signing permanently.?

20 Dec 2018 21:30:51
Well with one of our ex-managers being linked with arguably the most prestigious job in the world I was wondering what my fellow saints fans think of this potential appointment? I for one would love it considering spurs have built a large portion of their success on foundations we laid. This may sound incredibly bitter and resentful but I genuinely hope he goes.

SaintIslander

{Ed0333's Note - I hope he goes too Saints Islander. My mate is the most arrogant and conceited spurs fan you could ever meet and his life is in turmoil at the moment at the thought of Poch leaving. It’s absolutely crucifying him and I’m enjoying his pain.

1.) 20 Dec 2018 23:05:44
in terms of screwing spurs over, I hope he goes and takes half their squad with him.

In terms of his career I hope he stays, utd's a poisoned chalice at the moment and he'd be better off sticking at spurs, building something there and waiting for the madrid job imo.

2.) 21 Dec 2018 00:45:43
Yes Ed. They seem very assured that they’ll keep him. I find it incredible all these Spurs fans are so vocal about how Pochettino won’t leave ‘his project’ when with united their is almost no limit as to what he can achieve. Also I’m certain I’ve read somewhere he idolises SAF as a manager, surely the thought of becoming his heir almost, must be somewhat tantalising to him.

3.) 21 Dec 2018 02:06:08
United are only a couple of cb’s and a midfielder away from challenging Liverpool and City for the title IMO. I believe The poison is gone with Mourinho and once they get the right manager they will kick on. They undoubtedly had the quality going forward they just need to strengthen their back line really.

17 Dec 2018 17:14:02
Fantastic game yesterday and the atmosphere was electric! Very excited for our future with Mr Rabbit Hutch. I do wonder though, when will we have Les Reed’s replacement lined up? January is coming fast and a few additions to our squad, in particular our back line, wouldn’t go amiss.

SaintIslander

{Ed001's Note - Hutch is great but why didn't he bring Starsky with him????}

1.) 17 Dec 2018 19:27:31
Read that Mitchell’s been linked to Man U so that’s taken him definitely off our radar
Hopefully they’ll announce someone soon.

2.) 17 Dec 2018 20:11:15
More important to get it right than appoint someone quickly. Suddenly January signings don't feel quite as vital to us staying up as they did a few weeks back!

That said, a cb and an attacker with real pace wouldn't go amiss if the right people are available.

3.) 18 Dec 2018 11:03:52
I've read that the club have now cooled on the idea of finding a Les Reed replacement, or at least reviving his post as the board believe his powers spread too far. It may be that the club stick with a simple head of recruitment rather than a new DOF, spreading LR's old responsibilities between the head coach and a head of recruitment.

Excellent result. The passion displayed today vs under Hughes is night and day. You can tell the players would run through brick walls for Ralph, Romeu and Vestergaard were stand outs for me. In regards to Valery He certainly shows at times he possesses a fair amount of potential. What worries me as though is that he seems a little hot headed. Like today that second yellow was daft.
