Any news on the Marlon Santos deal? I saw recently that we were close to signing for 12M euros. Is this a move that might still go ahead with Vestagaard signing or has interest been dropped?

Claims from Spain that it is a done deal as player wants to join Saints instead of West Ham! This will mean Yoshida/ Stephens/ Bednarek will be sold/ loaned. I think they will give Hoedt another season to prove himself.

Be a shame to see Yosh go. Sure he's made a few mistakes in his time but on the whole he's been a good servant to Saints. I also think he had a pretty good World Cup.

Hearing the Morgan Schneiderlin could be on his way back to Saints? Sounds unlikely to me but would love him back. Any truth to this?
I've heard Palace and Spurs want him too.

I would like him to PSG or Marseille then he might get back into the France squad.

There were strong rumours a while ago stating that we were going to sign a player from Andelecht. Ed any news on this? I think everyone settled that it was most likley Samuel Bastien but people were also saying that it could be Praet or Tielemans.

shu1302

{Ed002's Note - Bastien is moving to Chievo. Praet is in talks with another side and Tielemans looks to be staying.}

Saints do what they do best. they sit back and let all the rumours gather pace. It's common knowledge that the media concoct stories to sell papers. Yes the old phrase " there's no smoke without fire" comes to mind. Even the agents stir things up for their own means.

Good on Austin for putting one rumour to bed. It's gets tiresome to read. Now even Arsenal are in for Fonte. Perhaps it will be Barcelona next. If he goes, he goes we can't do sweet f. a. about it. Anyone going to Man Utd on Friday night? My partner and myself are going as I have relations in Oldham and will take advantage and stay with them for a couple of days. Onwards and upwards.

2.) 17 Aug 2016 17:13:52
I agree Welshgirl, media amplification to sell papers, unfortunately this media spin does in fact affect footballers, fans, and management of football clubs when it goes viral.
I hope Fonte stays, but I also feel we need to start to adopt a different strategy when it comes to players leaving, more than often other clubs in the EPL appear more resilient in keeping their key players (and I'm not just talking about the so called bigger clubs) .

I still think we need 3/ 4 players
1 x CD or 2 if Fonte jumps ship
another winger for cover
and a proven goalscorer (we may have Austin, Jay and Long (Redmond adapting to the role) but with injuries and the extra games I still think we're short

Best wishes to ALL Saints' fans.

Gker. forster gets injured or suspended we have a very inexperienced gker understudy.

4.) 17 Aug 2016 21:49:51
We've got Alex Mccarthy. More than adequate understudy. Arguably better than stekelnberg.

5.) 17 Aug 2016 18:38:24
Fonte will be in the squad on Friday and high chance of starting according to Claude Puel on Wave 105 radio at 5.30pm tonight. He has questioned the timing of these rumours. Mor or less said its typical mind games by Jose Mourinho again. He also said that Fonte is very focused and wants to do what he does best for Southampton.

Agree with you WillsaSaint on your posting. Seri is good and pacey with a clever mind but the census of opinion that at 5ft 5inches he probable wouldn't hack it up against tough tackling premier league players.

A snip and a possible gamble at a rumoured £5mill. Can't wait for Old Trafford and will meet up with family members that support Man Utf I'm afraid. Still nothing like a good banter and a few beers afterwards. Onwards and upwards.

6.) 18 Aug 2016 08:52:21
Rayzer practically every teams 3rd choice goalkeeper is either inexperienced or over the hill. There are much more important places to fill. If we had a major injury to Frazer then under prem laws we could get an emergency loan in.

Eds, any updates on the Tello and Ounas rumours?

shu1302

{Ed002's Note - I dealt with Tello in January and the Fiorentina cheap loan-to-buy-cheap deal with Barcelona that includes Porto being paid off and another little "consideration" that will be to the future benefit of Barcelona. The player has the option of making his loan permanent this summer. I am not aware of any Liverpool interest since January 2014. If Klipperty is interested it seems he has again found an old Post-It note of Rodgers down the back of the sofa. Monje has said that Barcelona, Forentina and the player are looking to sort out what will happen next season - the issue surrounding is it another loan to buy or is it some structured payment deal.

Bordeaux's Adam Ounas has been watched on several occasions by Sunderland this season but it is Monaco, Stoke and Seville who have approached his club together with Manchester United with Mourinho reigniting interest he had when at Chelsea.}

Anyone got any info on the Ahmed Musa and Adam Ounas rumours?
I read that we are one of 6 clubs set to €10M for Ounas. Hope we can get these two!

The commentator on the Wales game today said we're interested in signing Joe Allen. I think he could make a very good replacement for Wanyama. Was imressed with his performances last season at Liverpool. Anyone know if this is true or not, if so, how strong is the interest?

Would take Joe Bryan from Bristol City to replace Bertrand all day long. Unlikely but a swap + £ deal, McQueen for Bryan would be a good bit of business.

Because he could benefit from regular football at a professional standard rather than sitting on the bench and playing for U23s.

Medical wasn't failed. He's recently had an operation on his knee so the medical is a lot more in depth and thorough. It was planned to be taken over 2 days. Today is the second. The deal should be announced tomorrow or later today.

Why do we need another keeper? Forster number 1, McCarthy backup and we can recall Gazza if needs be. I think we need someone better than Romeu, someone closer to Wanyama's standard. A solid CB to replace Fonte (if he goes) and a backup CB.

The style of play created us so many chances that we just couldn't bury. Our current team does need improving. Imo we 100% need a new quality CB to partner VVD and a goal scoring midfielder, sigurdsson would be ideal.

Good thing about loans. We can send him back if he gets injured.

Kanu's nowhere near the quality of Austin. If Austin is started week in week out he'll net 15+.

Austin was out for 1 season, just like Forster and we don't refer to him as injury prone. Austin, like every player, has niggles every now and then but to say he's injury prone is a bit far. He is a proven goal scorer and if he starts games he can net us 15+ on his own.

I wouldn't mind him for depth just in case of a midweek trip to Accrington Stanley or an injury.
Would like a top striker that can compete with Austin, Long and Jay though.
