Saints are playing at Norwich on Friday and 1 Norwich player has just tested positive for the virus. I'm still wondering if it's too early to restart football. Any thoughts people?

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - I think it is a very good question.}

1.) 14 Jun 2020 17:07:08
Agree that it is too early to restart, sadly money talks. It may well be a good morale boost to the nation for the time being as there don’t seem to have been any adverse effects in Germany/ Italy/ Spain as yet.

I don’t think France were right to cancel their league so early and the matches can and should be finished, but I think use July and August to do that and start the new season in September if necessary.

In the long run, I don’t think finishing the season will lead to many if any unnecessary deaths, and it may well save a few clubs further down the leagues if the money is used correctly - which of course it won’t - and Liverpool will deservedly win their crown.

It will hopefully just accelerate the demise of the money grabbing element when people start to turn their backs seeing £80m spent on footballers in a couple of months’ time when that could be spent on saving however many thousands of people with proper PPE and funding. But we’ll see.

2.) 14 Jun 2020 19:17:48
I'm also thinking that all the players are going out to play on Friday knowing that someone within the Norwich squad has tested positive for the virus. Just wondering if it could mess with a few heads.

3.) 15 Jun 2020 23:31:01
For the first time ever on this site, I can bring my Applied Physics and over 20 years of statistical analysis (but no geek! ) . i have been shouted at, insulted, laughed at and mocked . but I think with my head and not with drama. I won't lecture you, i will leave two facts that are FACTS . under 65 deaths . ONE PER MILLION.
under 16 deaths . TWO IN 15 MILLION both sadly gravelly ill.

COME ON YOU REDS!

4.) 17 Jun 2020 03:35:21
think the only people worrying about a virus that has killed .065% of the population in the worst hit country and is dropping off pretty much of as quickly as came (much like the original sars from 2003) are the people falling for the lamestream media's okie doke

even the WHO (not that I'd actually trust them) say you need to be within a metre of someone who has it for more than 15 mins in an enclosed area.
It's incredibly unlikely any football player will catch it from another during a game.

Cedric to Arsenal?

teejaysaint

1.) 29 Jan 2020 18:14:44
Really hope we keep onto him. KWP is young and might do okay. or might just do nothing which is good we are only getting him on loan. Letting Cedric go especially right now midseason is a huge mistake and we will regret it.

2.) 29 Jan 2020 21:11:11
It doesn't really make much sense to me. Cedric has been good for us this season, granted he has stated he wants to leave. But we let first team regular like him go out on loan until the end of season and then he leaves for free in the summer when his contract expires doesn't make financial sense.

3.) 30 Jan 2020 07:38:10
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Cedric is clearly enjoying his football again and playing well. We are on the best form for many seasons and playing some good football. Arsenal very hit and miss, not having a great season. so that’s ok you have Cedric and I’m glad we can be of service to you Each spot in the PL is worth millions so keep hold of Cedric til the end. I am wondering if it’s just a rumour and that he will be trained up to slot in come start of next season. Cedric is certainly not doing a Van Dyke sulk so makes no sense.

4.) 30 Jan 2020 08:02:44
However we would be silly not to take the money if he is set on leaving free in the summer.

5.) 30 Jan 2020 12:21:41
Just checked out prize money per place; approx 2M per spot, less than I thought. But with our current form could we really make Europe.

6.) 30 Jan 2020 12:49:17
Supposedly the money is 1million loan fee, surely not worth losing a reasonably in form settled defence player go for the sake of 1 million.

Lemina off to Galatasaray. I actually hope that he stays there.

teejaysaint

1.) 03 Sep 2019 08:46:55
I hope all of these loans (with an option to buy) turn into actual sales. It's a joke, we've got £80m worth of players out on loan. The recruitment the past few seasons has been poor. Apart from FF, the other 3 players have barely served the club. Carillo has played like 5 games for us and we've loaned him out on the final year of his contract.

Oh well, onwards and upwards. Ralph's got rid of all the dead weight around the camp, watching the game against United on Saturday we were superb on the press, we'll be a hard team to play against this season.

2.) 05 Sep 2019 11:09:30
Basically we totally wasted the VVD money then!

3.) 06 Sep 2019 20:18:56
If you check Transfermarkt, you'll find that Carrillo's contract runs out 30th of June 2021. If they don't buy him next summer, his contract is likely to be terminated like Clasie's. Must be the worst transfer ever!

Apparently Everton considering an offer for Lemina.

teejaysaint

1.) 03 Aug 2019 03:13:11
Everton have signed a DM, I don't believe any of these Lemina rumours. If he does go I think it'll be a cheap sale or loan to a European team after our deadline.

09 Jul 2019 22:14:58
Hi eds. Do you know if there's any truth in the " Lemina to Man Utd " rumour?

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - Not as far as I am aware.}

1.) 10 Jul 2019 10:19:38
Thanks Ed002. Seemed a bit far fetched to me but nothing surprises me these days.

2.) 10 Jul 2019 10:19:38
Thanks Ed002. Seemed a bit far fetched to me but nothing surprises me these days.

{Ed002's Note - I am only aware of one approach and that was from Atalanta who would like a loan to buy.}

3.) 10 Jul 2019 15:13:51
I don't think that Saints would sanction that type of deal as we would want to have the cash to purchase our own signings/ replacement. We also have too many out on loan who are unlikely to be brought back into the squad that we need to sell on.

4.) 15 Jul 2019 19:42:51
I think loaning Lemina out would be different to someone like Hoedt or Clasie though. He's unquestionably talented, and it could be a good financial move.

I could easily seeing him excelling somewhere like Atalanta and suddenly we're sitting on a £30-40m player.

5.) 15 Jul 2019 22:00:48
I see your point Saints 123 but what if he has another poor season? He then becomes another player that we can't sell because we have a £15m player that we would only get offers of £5-£6m for. If he's adamant that he doesn't want to be with us I would much rather take a £15m offer now and move on.

Thoughts on restarting the season anyone? I think it's still too early personally. I think player safety should be paramount.

1.) 05 Jun 2020 14:26:44
Only hope he gets a chance now long has signed a new deal think Adams offers a lot be a shame to see him go.

30 Mar 2020 12:23:12
What are other fans thoughts on how this season should end if the lockdown goes on much longer? I don't think that its feasible to play all the games left in as little as 4 weeks so what are the options? Hope everyone is well and stay safe.

teejaysaint

1.) 01 Apr 2020 06:49:59
Null and void.

2.) 04 Apr 2020 19:55:30
I’d hope that it would be safe to play behind closed doors in 6-8 weeks with normality returning in July time hopefully. Then use up the summer to finish things off and make June 30 (end of season) into August 31 to get everything done.

There were about 10 weeks of the season left so ten weeks in hand is mid-June which is two months away so that hopefully fits into line. I don’t think you can null a season so late through, nor can you end it now as is with Bournemouth being relegated by one goal and still having to play much kinder fixtures than teams above them. Play league games on Saturdays and sundays, cup games Tuesday and Europe Wednesday/ Thursday with the odd midweek off to allow teams to catch up.

If anyone moans of fatigue I’d like to point them to the three month break and thousands of deaths around them while they’ve earned about £1m doing nothing except post on instagram and Twitter.

Arrange for the ‘new’ season to start late September and the transfer window to end around then as well. Playing midweeks, skipping some international breaks in the rest of 2020 bar the play offs and allowing postponements for those teams affected, and I reckon the season could end late-May in time for the Euros.

Of course this doesn’t matter right now, I’m just spitballing for sake of looking ahead to brighter times. When it is safe to do so it would be nice to have sport to distract ourselves from the real world again, but for the time being safety and survival are all of our priorities.

3.) 10 Apr 2020 01:13:13
Kudos to SFC. As a very long term Southampton Football Club supporter it makes me very proud that the Coach, Players and Hierachy have quickly demonstrated to the EPL that they remain a ‘CLUB’ with the true meaning in respect to salary deferments. Stay Safe Everybody.

4.) 10 Apr 2020 07:08:05
Even though it is stated that the deferals are for 10% that should be plenty to cover all the non playing staff. Bournemouth have already sent my nephew home on furlough as a junior groundskeeper. Stewards r on what is essentially 0hrs contracts so with the board, coaching and playing staff taking cuts should easily cover those who are non playing staff.

I'm reading reports that Southampton FC have been put up for sale with an asking price of £250M.

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - Part of the club - to a cap of 80% - is vailable to be sold.}

1.) 08 Mar 2020 15:15:51
Thank god! And now maybe an investor who is actually interested in our football club rather than promoting his betting business!

{Ed002's Note - This is not a new thing - it has been going on since the summer.}

I see that Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 loss for Saints this weekend so going on his recent results record that means that we'll win 3-1.

Fake news about Gao trying to sell his stake in the club for half his original asking price.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of that.}

I've been reading reports that Liverpool have been looking to sign him for something like £30 Million but then again they seem to get connected to players everywhere.

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - Milot Rashica (LW/RW) another possible Jadon Sancho replacement or indeed a Leroy Sane option and there is interest from both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Werder Bremen don't want to sell (but could be relegated). Rashica plays predominently on the left, like several of the many Sancho replacements, but is seen as versatile. Dortmund are looking at a number of possible Sancoh replacements that they have identified and others also play predominently on the left. I am not aware of any approach from Liverpool to Werder Bremen nor any declaration of interest from his agent or lawyer but it would be interesting if their were - he would certainly provide good cover for Mane.}

Chelsea were close to recalling him from his loan spell at Birmingham just before Christmas because of lack of game time. I'm thinking that if he can't get into Birmingham city's defence then I'm not sure he's good enough for us however Chelsea gave him a new contract at the beginning of the season so someone there must have thought that he has a good chance of making it.

My thoughts too Norfolk Saint. JWP should play his natural game unlocking defences and putting the ball in for our strikers. Why waste his talent playing in defence when we had not 1 but 2 right sided defenders on the bench. Also bringing on Vestergaard and Romeu when we were in need of goals seemed a strange move.

Looks like you could be right saintjay. Seems like Danny might get another chance and JWP is knocking on the door again. Would love to see Stephens get a chance too. All depends on how much Southgate has been watching us I suppose.
