Carillo is officially off our payroll.

What a waste of £19m! Believe we did something similar though for only about £4m on buying Vegard Forren about six years back. Never should have allowed Pellegrino get his hands in the chequebook in the first place.

Now hopefully Hoedt is back off to Lazio and Boufal back to Angers, and we should have a nicely trimmed squad. Disappointed to see Klarer go, I believe big things were tipped of him.

2.) 05 Oct 2020 19:26:05
If we can get Hoedt and Boufal off the wage bill as well, it will put us in a stronger position during the January window if we NEED to do business. All of the bad transfer decisions after RK left the club had put us in a dodgy financial position. While I respect every player that togs out for us, all the above players were surplus to requirements. RH has done a great job if all those players are now off the wage bill.

3.) 05 Oct 2020 20:19:42
You do know it's not the manager who sets up their transfer away right? How has Ralph done a good job in getting rid of them?

4.) 05 Oct 2020 20:30:44
Has anyone heard anything about whether Gunn is going anywhere? All the talk a couple of weeks ago was that either Gunn or Forster would go but as FF has been on the bench so far this season I can't see Gunn getting the No.2 keepers spot back so surely needs to move for the sake of his career.

5.) 06 Oct 2020 07:41:12
I think there's still a period where lower league clubs can sign players on loan. So hopefully he'll be off to the championship on loan.

I'm just relieved we've managed to ship the deadweight from our wage bill.

Rumours starting to circulate about Saints bidding for Teun Koopmeiners from AZ Alkmaar. Has anyone else heard anything?

Would love that to come off but can’t see it happening with bigger clubs linked, feel he’d move to a CL club if he were to move.

Saints are playing at Norwich on Friday and 1 Norwich player has just tested positive for the virus. I'm still wondering if it's too early to restart football. Any thoughts people?

teejaysaint

{Ed002's Note - I think it is a very good question.}

1.) 14 Jun 2020 17:07:08
Agree that it is too early to restart, sadly money talks. It may well be a good morale boost to the nation for the time being as there don’t seem to have been any adverse effects in Germany/ Italy/ Spain as yet.

I don’t think France were right to cancel their league so early and the matches can and should be finished, but I think use July and August to do that and start the new season in September if necessary.

In the long run, I don’t think finishing the season will lead to many if any unnecessary deaths, and it may well save a few clubs further down the leagues if the money is used correctly - which of course it won’t - and Liverpool will deservedly win their crown.

It will hopefully just accelerate the demise of the money grabbing element when people start to turn their backs seeing £80m spent on footballers in a couple of months’ time when that could be spent on saving however many thousands of people with proper PPE and funding. But we’ll see.

2.) 14 Jun 2020 19:17:48
I'm also thinking that all the players are going out to play on Friday knowing that someone within the Norwich squad has tested positive for the virus. Just wondering if it could mess with a few heads.

3.) 15 Jun 2020 23:31:01
For the first time ever on this site, I can bring my Applied Physics and over 20 years of statistical analysis (but no geek! ) . i have been shouted at, insulted, laughed at and mocked . but I think with my head and not with drama. I won't lecture you, i will leave two facts that are FACTS . under 65 deaths . ONE PER MILLION.
under 16 deaths . TWO IN 15 MILLION both sadly gravelly ill.

COME ON YOU REDS!

4.) 17 Jun 2020 03:35:21
think the only people worrying about a virus that has killed .065% of the population in the worst hit country and is dropping off pretty much of as quickly as came (much like the original sars from 2003) are the people falling for the lamestream media's okie doke

even the WHO (not that I'd actually trust them) say you need to be within a metre of someone who has it for more than 15 mins in an enclosed area.
It's incredibly unlikely any football player will catch it from another during a game.

Cedric to Arsenal?

teejaysaint

1.) 29 Jan 2020 18:14:44
Really hope we keep onto him. KWP is young and might do okay. or might just do nothing which is good we are only getting him on loan. Letting Cedric go especially right now midseason is a huge mistake and we will regret it.

2.) 29 Jan 2020 21:11:11
It doesn't really make much sense to me. Cedric has been good for us this season, granted he has stated he wants to leave. But we let first team regular like him go out on loan until the end of season and then he leaves for free in the summer when his contract expires doesn't make financial sense.

3.) 30 Jan 2020 07:38:10
It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Cedric is clearly enjoying his football again and playing well. We are on the best form for many seasons and playing some good football. Arsenal very hit and miss, not having a great season. so that’s ok you have Cedric and I’m glad we can be of service to you Each spot in the PL is worth millions so keep hold of Cedric til the end. I am wondering if it’s just a rumour and that he will be trained up to slot in come start of next season. Cedric is certainly not doing a Van Dyke sulk so makes no sense.

4.) 30 Jan 2020 08:02:44
However we would be silly not to take the money if he is set on leaving free in the summer.

5.) 30 Jan 2020 12:21:41
Just checked out prize money per place; approx 2M per spot, less than I thought. But with our current form could we really make Europe.

6.) 30 Jan 2020 12:49:17
Supposedly the money is 1million loan fee, surely not worth losing a reasonably in form settled defence player go for the sake of 1 million.

Stuart Armstrong has tested positive for C.V. 19. Don't know how much close contact he had with the rest of the Saints squad over the past few days.

So Romeu gets himself booked after 5 minutes meaning that he's now on a tightrope for the rest of the match. He seems to do it every match and I think that we need someone else in because I can see him costing us points as the seas progresses.

Just seen that Boufal signed for us 4 years ago today. I know that he was at Celta on loan for a season but he's only taken part in 69 games for Saints ( many from the bench) and scored a miserly 3 goals for us. I don't think that is a very good return for someone with undoubted quality. Just wondering if he's really part of Ralph's plans for the coming season. I can't see him starting many games and he never seems happy being on the bench. Thoughts anybody.

teejaysaint

1.) 29 Aug 2020 22:10:55
He's a good player to have on the bench. He can pull the strings against a tired team coming on as a sub to create good chances.

I don't think we'd be able to easily get rid of him. I'd keep him in as a squad rotatory player, it'll be good for Redmond to have some competition for his position.

As you mentioned he has undoubted quality, give him some time with a decent coach (in Ralph) and I think he could really improve and become an integral part of the squad.

2.) 30 Aug 2020 18:38:10
I agree that he could be a good impact player coming on for the last 20 or 25 minutes but I wonder if he'll be happy doing that. He can be a bit petulant and become disinterested when he's not getting game time. Maybe he'll knuckle down and show his quality and make it hard for Ralph to leave him out. He'd certainly be an asset to the club if he plays to the best of his ability.

Fits the Saints policy. Only 22 years old. Quite physical and a decent tackler/ passer. Could fit nicely into Ralph's way of playing and at £7-£8 M fairly priced. I think 1 or 2 other clubs are interested. Let's hope.

Unfortunately if Spurs offered £30M + I think our board would seriously consider selling him. I really don't think that Danny would want to go there, like you say SaintGGsy just to warm the bench and come on for 10 minutes when Maureen decides that Kane isn't going to score.

Seen this in the online papers. He's the president of Bordeaux football club and was in talks to buy Newcastle a while ago. Would love to have someone come in who would actually invest in the club. Our way of buying young players to sell on at a profit won't work for ever. We need someone who will back the manager with cash.

I agree. I think that referees should be encouraged to go to the pitch side monitors to double check their own decisions and those of the VAR team. The referees are the ones that ultimately have to make the final decision during the game but VAR is often making poor decisions which the ref goes along with because he is being told via his earpiece what he should do. I bet that when the ref looked back on the Pickford incident after the match he'll have realised that it was the wrong decision taken. VAR was put in place to clear up contentious decisions but I think it's creating more questions than answers.

I agree mostly with your team set up SaintGGsy except I would personally have Bednarek in for Vestergaard. I just think that Bednarek is a bit more mobile and makes fewer mistakes.

I would take him on a pay as you play contract. Had enough players getting high wages whilst almost living in the treatment room.

Not sure about Walcott. Struggled to stay fit/ injury free at Everton and he's basically Redmond Mark 2. At 31 years old his best days are well behind him in my opinion.
