I heard on the grapevine this morning that Ross Stewart probably won't be ready for first team action until December. Even if he comes in then and scores a shed load of goals I fear that it will be far too late to get us to the playoffs.

Lots of rumours abounded about him failing his medical . and then the comments slating those rumours …
Interesting

2.) 19 Sep 2023 08:31:21
If he had failed the medical then he would not be insured and Sunderland would not have accepted a deal with future add on payment’s, Saints would have to make full payment there and then. As I understand the FA rules, all players must be insured to play professional football in England.

Another winger with pace and little end product. GIVE US GOALS FOR GOD’S SAKE.

Doesn’t need to be anything magical. A half season loan deal to keep us up, and we’ll be in a much more inviting position if we stay up. Look what Gabbi did - none of us had heard of him and he had a spurt for two months which kept us up. Don’t sign a striker, we won’t know.

Che Adams and Adam Armstrong will not keep this side up. Mara has potential but isn’t going to bag 10-12 goals in the last 19 games. Maybe Orsic at striker is an option, but relying on JWP and Perraud for goals is a death sentence.

Also, generally speaking, it’s worrying that our 1.5th team (not quite a full second string side) barely beat a team in the championship relegation zone. Doesn’t exactly bode well.

2.) 28 Jan 2023 23:28:24
1 goal and 2 assists in 17 games. Sounds ready made for us!

1.) 04 Jan 2023 21:12:34
I never ever thought I’d say this, but we are worse than under Ralph .
Other than get the ball to KWP every single move, we have no game plan .
Embarrassing

2.) 04 Jan 2023 21:31:29
In 55 years of watching Saints I have never seen a more disorganised or lacklustre performance. No pride, no passion, no commitment with the exception of a few players. Absolute disgrace. Sack Jones now!

We r rubbish

The Daily Telegraph are reporting that Ralph Hassenhutl is on the brink so hopefully they have it right. Several top managers are out of work at the moment so nows the time to get one in.

Still amazed that there are supporters standing up for Ralph… I always say, I’ll list a dozen reasons he should sacked, please tell me just one reason he should stay .

2.) 08 Oct 2022 18:18:14
I’ve met Ralph he is a very nice guy but I agree his time is up we need some fresh ideas

Games like today's worry me especially as in the first 45 minutes we've had 80% possession and only 1 goal to show for it. Let's hope that our second half performance is better than of late

teejaysaint

1.) 07 Oct 2023 17:14:03
It was nice to give Rotherham there first point away all season …not
Sadly things didn’t get better in the second half. I’m
not a believer of making three substitutions at the same time .
It’s too much of a change to the dynamics of the team; usually done as a last throw of the dice when losing .

He certainly believes in sticking with Manning .

2.) 07 Oct 2023 17:22:55
Seems like I was right to be worried. If we had won we would have been in a playoff position

3.) 07 Oct 2023 21:21:32
First half was our best 45 minute performance this season - full of intent, intelligent movement and had the finishing been more clinical we would have been 3 or 4 nil up at the break.

Then came the second half and the pitiful and pathetic bad habits crept back.

I find Saints fans on the whole quite forgiving (too accepting of mediocrity) but today there was an edge to their frustration in the second half. As one fan bellowed out, “we have the only manager in football who announces to the world our game plan every week”. I’ve not included the expletives but he certainly had a point.

I’m not forgiving - I think Manning is an absolute disgrace, Wilson is non league level and Downes offers nothing meaningful. I’m not in the Smallbone fan club either.

And as for the manager (and I use the term loosely) we may as well have appointed Ricky Martin. His substitutions were incomprehensible - does he pull the numbers out of a hat - there was no logic to the changes.

Anyway, 2 weeks to lick our wounds

4.) 08 Oct 2023 02:48:05
Another disappointing. result-bordering on unacceptable.RM continues playing with 10 men when he’s carrying Manning through repeated poor performances when a sensible solution adjustment regarding KWP and James Bree has been suggested to rectify this blatant weakness in the short term.As each fixture comes and goes it. becomes clearer that RM doesn’t possess the ability to coach his team to create and score more goals within this league. It appears Saints fans are becoming restless and more fixated on a quality replacement who can immediately recognise the shortcomings and fix them rather than opposition teams around us jockeying for promotion places.Time is fast running out Russell Martin to achieve!

5.) 08 Oct 2023 07:49:31
You should see his comments re a fan shouting at him . ‘I had to have a word with him’ .
bigging up his possession, football.
Martin, you clown, you’ve just given Rotherham their first away point of the season. Rather than take control of the game, we reverted to your awful possession, football!
I knew you were uncomfortable with us playing attacking football, but to actually criticise a fan and waffle on about your possession football, tells me you don’t have a clue!
If you got sacked tomorrow, you wouldn’t have a clue why! And that tells me how arrogant you are!
We don’t win, but you think the fans should accept the fact we had so much possession?
Clown

6.) 08 Oct 2023 08:49:54
Completely agree - admire your self discipline in settling for ‘clown’.

7.) 09 Oct 2023 11:31:01
Millertime .
I had many more choice words, but kept them to myself!
This man really is a me, me, me person.
Goes on and on about possession football, like it’s some holy grail .
no. it’s the holy graveyard of Martins teams. Note Swansea doing so much better without him!

Looks like saints will be adding more to their manager compensation payouts!

8.) 09 Oct 2023 12:32:37
Your comments say it all. That was a Rotherham team there for the taking, they made a sensible tactical change after 30 minutes which then seemed to frustrate us. Answer, make your own tactical change to find another way to goal, or is that to simplistic for the great RM. If any team can keep us down to 1 goal by halftime they are guaranteed a result due to our dilly dally second half displays

9.) 09 Oct 2023 12:34:54
Did tell you 6 weeks ago that Johansson was an outstanding goalkeeper, was available for 3 million before the season started.

10.) 09 Oct 2023 17:34:41
Top shout - he was man of the match (or is it player nowadays) . Very decent GK and certainly an upgrade on Bazuna who has much to learn.

Incidentally, did anyone else see the Che Adams assist for their goal the way I did?

It was the right thing for Che to give possession back to the opposition but why didn’t he throw the ball over the bye line for a goal kick rather than straight to their keeper. Five seconds later the ball is in the back of our net.

That was schoolboy (IMO) - there’s a gulf of difference between sportsmanship and charity.

Not much has been made of that which is probably because most people don’t like to have a pop at Che.

11.) 10 Oct 2023 06:25:51
I was feeling 3 positives with 30 mins to go. Set to be around the playoffs, continuing our avg. Points per game would see us 4th or 5th in prior seasons and we have Stewart and Larios to strengthen us.

Seemed to be on the up with a bad speell behind us. Then balanced with 3 negatives. RM clearly hasn't let really go of his style, as soon as he gets the opportunity he reverts back. We were well beaten by top sides and only edged sides in the bottom 7. That puts us anywhere from 4th to 15th. Adams does not seem to have his head in the game.

Automatic spots are realistically very difficult now, we play 3 of our core competition in the next 3. Pick up 5 or 6 points and that is a sign we should make playoffs. 4 makes me nervy, 3 or less, I am worried.

Let's see where we are end of Oct, a third of the way through the season.

Seems as though Livramento could be off to Newcastle. He's one of the few that I feel we should go all out to keep

teejaysaint

1.) 27 Jun 2023 11:24:08
The transfer policy was confusing enough last season, buying players and not playing them!
But one thing we needed last season was a goalscorer. so what are we considering? Selling Tella?
Totally proven in the championship, on fire with his number of goals and assists! We need him so why on earth would we be considering selling him?

2.) 27 Jun 2023 21:36:03
Completely agree. We need to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of young players with PL potential like Tino, Tella, Alcaraz and Sulemana and build the team around them. Then add players with leadership and experience through the spine like we failed to last year.

I really fear SR will try and sell anybody they can make a profit on. Top Championship players will head to Leicester, Leeds and Boro, especially if they see us lacking ambition and selling our stars, leaving us left with the rest or throwing the dice with youth players and from other leagues.

Why take a punt when we have proven players on our books?

Imagine Tella, Alcaraz and Piroe as a front 3?

3.) 30 Jun 2023 00:20:40
The one thing I think with Tella is, he was on fire last season and the fans absolutely fell for him. We’ve never done that, and after all that work to get a team into the Premier League, to then go back and be stuck in the championship again must be quite soul destroying.

£20m for him I’d take, JWP will surely be off, as will Orsic, ABK, Onuachu, KWP, DCC, McCarthy, Lavia, Perraud, maybe Che.

Tino we don’t need to sell and the numbers being quoted are pathetic. Those above we can either let go or are PL quality and will probably want the move away.

Get a couple of battle hardened Championship players in - ST, CM, CB, build a spine, gain some resilience, play nice football, and hope we end up somewhere in the top six.

Bazunu, Tino, Salisu, Bednarek, Larios, Aribo, CM, Stu, Sulemana, Alcaraz, ST, with A Armstrong, Mara, Edozie, Ballard, Bree, Lyanco - given that’s a major clear out, still, I’d like to think, a decent squad.

The one issue we will have is being ready for a tough, 2 games a week grind for 8 months, which a lot of those won’t be up for.

4.) 30 Jun 2023 01:54:14
Unfortunately any prospect of a pre-season friendly between Saints v Swansea will likely not go ahead due to the fact that Swansea City FC only have 3 Players, a Manager, Ballboy and the Groundsman left at the Club!

5.) 30 Jun 2023 05:45:18
With the Club being in a cash strong position (subject to potential sales listed by Saint GGsy) although l would love to keep them Tino, Alcaraz, Salisu and Lyanco are attracting attention and in my opinion should be added to the list of outgoings along with Bednarek (regardless of Stephens situation) .A very hard look at Stu and Aribo whether both or either would fit into RM’s system as we definitely need to hit the road running in August. Therefore I would favour acquiring 4/5 of SWANSEA CITY FC PLAYERS PLUS FLYNN DOWNES.from WHU.We also need a class Keeper besides Bazuna (whether 1st.or 2nd choice) and promote 2/3 more academy players into the squad. A complete clean sweep with potentially 14/15 players to leave and the required shortfall brought in.

13 May 2023 17:35:55
Goodbye premier league football. In general I'm an optimistic person so I'd like to say see you again in a year but unfortunately I can't see that happening . Obviously we're going to lose over half of our first team squad so we'll need a manager with experience of championship football to bring in players who will scrap for every point. Maybe we can rebuild and get back to playing fast paced exciting football but I think that we are destined to spend a few years away from the premier league.

1.) 15 May 2023 12:29:17
Most punters.are right to expect a mass exodus of Players and Coaching Staff.Personally I would keep Bazunu (considering his Youth and Championship football would be an ideal platform for him to further his experience) and sweep the remainder out of the door with the exception of those being sold.My retention list would include;Edozie;Livramento, Tella, Smallbone, Mara, Larios Alcaraz (with Adams, Adam Armstrong and Lyanco as maybe’s) plus all academy prospects and top up with carefully selected quality imports.I recently suggested Manager Jon Dahl Tomasson as first choice and would add 2nd Russell Martin (Swansea City and 3rd.Steven Schumacher (Plymouth Argyle) both of whom appear to be of interest to SFC.A bit of a step down from my previous suggestion recommending Unai Emery to replace Ralph HASSENHUTTL.However ‘horses for courses’ I’m sure that all three of these young Managers are already firmly on the road to successful careers with potentially exciting times ahead!

2.) 24 May 2023 05:48:18
Should Russell Martin become Saints next Manager I believe we could experience an exciting turnaround in our Club’s fortunes (something I would never have contemplated a few weeks ago)! After all Swansea City have a recent impeccable track record for ‘unearthing’ “top Managers” including (Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter and Steve Cooper) .RM’s knowledge, temperament and ‘man management’ skills are widely admired and backed by his own Coaching Team and hand picked Swansea City players who would undoubtably help introduce R M’s preferred playing formation/system a more seamless transition. With respect to our existing Players Ward-Prowse, Lavia, Alcaraz, Bednarek (Adams? ) we appreciate their service to the Club along. with all other mediocrities who have performed this season it is time to pack up your old kit bags and move on! Whilst it remains open regarding new signings I have suggested a Championship Saints side assuming Russell Martin is at the helm and utilising 3 of his Swansea Players. Bazumu/? Livramento (Ryan Manning) /larios Lyanco? (Matt Grimes) Smallbone Diallo Sulemana Tella/ Edozie. (Joel Piroe) /. Adam Armstrong/Che Adams. To suit R M’s 4:1 :4:1 system.

3.) 25 May 2023 11:09:39
And don’t forget Ballard and a couple of others from B team now in Prem division 1

4.) 25 May 2023 15:10:02
Excellent insightful post. It is reassuring to hear some positive feedback about RM.

We have lacked a killer instinct all season, so a vegan Buddhist manager did not inspire much hope initially!

I am wary about his underwhelming mid table finshes, especially as Swansea made the playoffs before but I do see 3 positives.

1. 7 wins from 9 in their last games. Has he found the key to win in the Championship?

2. Swansea's striker looks impressive at this level. Maybe RM could persuade him to join us.

3. His possession football may appeal to top PL managers looking to send their fringe and young players out on loan to teams with a similar style, so we could get some talent.

The jury is out. Let's see where we are 10 games in.

5.) 26 May 2023 00:20:04
WELL DONE to ALL FELLOW POSTERS this Season whatever your views.I do hope Ruben Sellars gets a deserved good ovation on Sunday as he took on a challenge many would have ducked away from and gave it his best shot (despite his tactical shortcomings) a stellar bloke all the same.MILLERTIME,! If you are in contact we miss your valuable contrribution and whilst we are all gutted and disappointed at the end result hope you.will join us next season in our revamped assault on the CHAMPIONSHIP. REGARDS TO ALL! (not forgetting south hants rich) from DOWN UNDER!

Agree with you all re. JWP. A few weeks ago we were being told of countless teams coming for him at £40 million +. Where are they now. I think that premier league managers have a similar view to us over his way of playing during the last couple of years. I wouldn't be surprised if nobody puts in a bid for him. Jimmy Gabriel was a great player. I watched him a lot in the late 60s/ early 70s.

A work in progress. I know it was only a preseason friendly but a win would have built some confidence. Still too much sideways/ backwards passing for my liking and gave the ball away too many times. Bazunu beaten on his near post from an acute angle. Che went missing for most of the match. Mara tried hard and Alcaraz did ok but still very few attempts at goal.
