What are your honest end of season league table position predictions within 4 spaces for saints?? mine is 16th - 13th

Believable0 Unbelievable0

9th-12th. Think we'll pretty much be bang in the middle of the table this coming year. We've still a lot of talent in the squad despite the departures and a very good manager. Can't see us pushing on any higher though.

7th - 11th. Although I expect Southampton to play good, exciting football all the way through the season. Tiki Taka & Koeman's tactics will be something to behold in this coming season :)

Agree0 Disagree0

13-16 We won't get relegated but it'll be a difficult season like our first a couple of years ago

Anyone have any idea on why there was this mass exodus, my theory was that perhaps Cortese had promised an increase in wages if they finished high in the table which was overturned by the new CEO so they wanted out. either way it's a wake up call to the supporters regarding loyalty or lack of. personally I think that the premiership will degenerate as more of the supporters from the "smaller" clubs realise it's a closed shop and all they have to look foreword to after spending their season ticket money is no more than a relegation battle. best league in the world. I think not. by the way radio spends 90% of their time talking about the champions league clubs. couldn't care a monkeys about the rest.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said Bazz

Yes because of the held back bonuses that's been mentioned loads

i heard a rumour today that I hope is just a rumour, its that jrod wants to stay here but with the seriousness of the knee injury he sustained the medical staff at the club have advised that they sell for as much as they can wich is whay we have been linked with wickham and guidetti, koeman is also playing with the idea of having pelle as a striker and two wingers playing as forwards servicing him, wich wouldn't suit a player like jrod, like I say hope its not true, and I think if jrod stays then then he would be great upront even in a winger/strikers role

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest Jay Rod's best games last season were the ones where he was playing on the left and being encouraged to cut in and service Lambert. He would suit that kind of attacking role perfectly really. Plus his knee injury really hasn't seemed as bad as you're suggesting with him being seemingly much further ahead in the rehab process that you'd expect for such a ligament injury. I'm not sure I agree with the points raised here too much but each to their own I guess.

Agree0 Disagree0

J-Rod's progressing faster than what was first reckoned plus he's the type of player Koeman likes, can't see us wanting to get rid even if he was fit enough to be sold

Agree0 Disagree0

That exactly what he did with Lambert and is were he scored 15 prem goals so it would suit him very well

So, a club purchasing JRod are going to be pretty lax on his medical and not notice the parrot on his shoulder?

Our only chance then is BR. So far he has thrown money out for a great guy who has a chronic back problem, a not so great guy who can only play for 70 minutes and chasing a "person" who finishes at the shoulders. He already had a guy who falls over at the time when the league title is in his grasp or heads the ball to the opposition to save having to spend any more time in Brazil so perhaps he will give us £25m for JRods remaining leg?

Think we are really entering fantasy territory now.

Garbage, how on earth are we going to sell him for more while he has a serious injury than when he's not injured and scoring goals? You've made it up or someone has

Come on koeman take gudietti and nastaic from city pay the high wages come we've got the money let's push our selves and become a better team then last season

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't have the money though. wages have to be based off've income now, we're in the bottom 1/4 of the prem in terms of income. Plus, if we start paying higher wages the rest of the squad will want them bumped up, and when we can't offer them that they're going to want to move.

more chance of winning things at chelsea than liverhampton if that's what he is after maybe more money as well

Newsnow is reporting that Chelsea are going in with a late bid for Lovren, if its true and if Lovren is to leave I would much rather see him go to Chealsea!

Im just about done with bloody liverpool and all my liverpool mates that a constantly posting links to saints players leaving to join liverhampton.

I've been trying hard to stay positive but its getting ridiculous. How are we ever going to retain our youngsters if we start progressing then they all get pinched by bigger clubs. I can't see how we can bring stop this. It was a real shame that Cortese left, he was the glue holding everything together.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was abusing his position, that is why he left.
He promised players money that he wasn't authorised to give, hence why he left and so did the rats.

I think the biggest issue here is the monopoly effect of not spending quick enough, newcastle - 4 players, liverpool - 4 players 2 almost complete. By not bringing in players to strengthen we have weakened our own position in regards to holding onto our better players why does it take the SFC board twice as long to complete a deal as the next team? By all means sell but buy in and improve the team; this is what's really frustrating most fans. Furthermore something else that I am disliking is the lack of an english core to our team, last year we had the most english players in our starting eleven, this year we at a push may have three or four.

I'm just getting ready to head down to Swindon for this evening's friendly. And yes it's a friendly but I have that 'excited' feeling all over again. the same feeling I get before every match.
I'm going to hopefully see Saints' youngsters with the new additions and the remaining regulars.
Am I getting het up, annoyed or concerned that some of our 'stars' are leaving? Will it stop me enjoying the moment? The answer is NO. Slight disappointment maybe.
I have faith in the kids coming through. I believe that we do not WANT to sell our big names but that if for WHATEVER reasons they have and they want to leave, then provided we are well financially compensated, then we move on. We get on with what we have got, get behind the team and give them some support.
Let's look to the future and stop getting down on the board/management (who I'm sure are doing ALL they can to push us forwards).
We support the Saints because its in the blood and whomever wears the STRIPES. we love and will continue to encourage. Would Guly have gotten his cheers and plaudits at other clubs?. probably not.
We are a small club whether we like it or not and will never have the finances to compete. We will never buysince we could never afford a ready made Iniesta or Messi. but we have something special in our water. We manage somehow to develop our youth with the right opportunities into great footballers. This may be our chance to really back them. Staplewood is better than most other clubs in the entire country. that will also help. If we spend. let us hope we predominently buy players WITH POTENTIAL and who are YOUNG with the odd spattering of experience aka Davis/Pelle.

Let's stop getting on the backs of those that make the decisions. Trust them and see where it leaves us. Our time has come

Small club? are you on something. 4th largest spenders in the transfer market last year and one of the best academies in the world. No offence but if you want to make out that we can not compete in the PL with most other clubs I think you have lost the plot. You mention Messi, Iniesta etc. not even City or Utd could sign them. Sorry but I just think you have a defeatist attitude which is exactly what we don't need at the moment. No offence honest but look to the future with hope.

I'm going tonight with a mate who is a STFC season ticket holder. He asked me what Saints stars we would play and he would see tonight - when I told him, he looked pretty blank! He looks pretty blank most of the time, but to be fair, it did make me think that we're a bit lightweight in the Prem experience stakes.

Saint moose you have what we psychologists call delusional optimism.

What is with is all this negativity?? are you all the sort of people that moan bout everything in your life?
by the way supporter for 45 years, through thick and thin!
Rickie L. we all felt he had maybe one good season left, his goal scoring/missing statistics were getting worse. he went to his beloved club - FAIR PLAY
replacement Pelle. AMAZING goal scoring record and a great replacement, in fact better.
Adam L. ONE good premiership season. and even then got regularly substituted as he drifted in and out of games. Comparison with Dusan Tedic.
AL played 235 goals 48 goals many in lower leagues!
DT played 241 goals 71
sounds a great replacement to me! and we got 25million??? are Liverpool mad!
Luke Shaw. how can anyone blame him for wanting to play for Man U! bring on Matty T!

So what is wrong with all of you?? Lovren I agree great player but made mistakes. ta ta!

We have a GREAT manager. and let's show more respect for the Saints than some of the players have!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2014 14:32:36
Something that really annoys me are fans who complain those who show concern as negative. Very few will agree that selling SRL, AL, and LS IS EXCELLENT business. Really impressive. I know few who don't have faith in our manager.
However. We are seeing little being done with the money at the moment. Those mentioned seem all vague with nothing solid to steel our nerves.
Yes Pelle has been amazing in different leagues. So do many others until they come to the EPL.
I happen to think he will but can understand peoples concerns.
Until we see some solid transfer news people are going to be worried. Especially when we do not have a huge amount of time to bed together.
Lets pull together as fans of our beloved Saints instead of sniping at each other.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rich_Sotn, I like your sentiment, however, the replacements are NOT proven EPL players. It's not about not showing respect for the manager or players that will remain (who knows who will go next) it's about the vision that was sold and well now the core of the team are gone/going. So whilst I understand your perspective, there are others, possibly myself that feel a little cheesed off with the board right now, and well that's our right, as it shows our passion also!

Southampton is gaining a good reputation because they play attractive football, promote English youth and have passionate fans.

I can't be the only one getting hugely worried with how this season is shaping up? I'm not a "push the panic button" sort of person but it is very disheartening being a saints supporter currently. If Lovren and Morgan are going, then they are going. Just sell and quickly so we can reinvest, build the squad try and get them gelling. We need 4/5 signings, 3 as an absolute minimum to be competitive. The season starts in 4 weeks?! Worried!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed. its time for a few on here to take the rose tinted glasses off.
The board need to act quickly to get players in.
Loads of cash in. great
No decent team though if they don't re-invest it before the season starts.

Lovren to Liverpool to be done by tomorrow!! then Spider to spuds!

Im sick of this! everyone is going to dislike but come on guys we can't keep on selling our best players! and expect to do well in the premiership. We have done well over the last 4 years because we have kept our squad and made the odd quality addition.

We are going down a seriously slippy road if we keep selling. Also i'm not saying the players we have purchased so far are not good enough I just saying come on let's be a little bit more ambitious!

I have just purchased the new kit for me and my daughter and paid to have J Rod on the back but i'm getting concerned that if the likes of Lovren and Spider go then I can see players like J Rod having their heads turned. If J Rod went I would be asking for my money back!

People come on!! SOUTHAMPTON STOP SELLING OUR TEAM!!!!!! we need to keep what we have now and in my option bring is some big names!!

And before any one says otherwise we are a big enough club to bring some Known quality names in!!

Im getting so pi**ed off with the selling aspect at the moment. People will say sell them if they don't want to be here! well we have done that, its time to put our foot down and tell these pre Madonna players that are mostly on long term contracts they are going nowhere!

Les Reed stop bl**dy selling our club off!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

21 Jul 2014 09:05:43
les reed is not listening to you
i posted weeks ago krueger and reed were asset stripping saints for kl
but I got shot down by others for saying that
only morgan and j rod left but won't be replaced by better players
les reed also said no one was leaving no need to sell
do you trust what he says I dont

It is very frustrating! I can't help but think we're going backwards after making such strides in the last few years. Yes, Pelle and Tadic look good, but just the nature of potentially changing sooo many players in one transfer window cannot be good. Although early days and still plenty of time to sign players, maybe the loss wouldn't feel so bad if the club splashed the cash a little more and a little quicker!?

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with you ben_basingstoke.

I've been as optimistic as possible with my posts and thoughts for the coming season.
Expected Shaw to go, was surprised to see RL leave but respected that and was disappointed that we let AL go.

I'me pretty sure RK came out and said we weren't going to let any other players leave. now it looks like another 3 (if you include Osvaldo). They were all first team regulars (well Osvaldo would have been if he hadn't been such a Kn*b)

I hate to say it but we are going to struggle this year. I've been a Saints supporter for the last 35 years and have seen good and bad. I just hoped and thought we were going to continue our good period.

In my mind if these sales go through we still need a striker, a midfielder, LB, 2 maybe 3 quality defenders and a GK. (yes we need all of these players as we need a squad not just an 11)

4 weeks until our first match against our old team and I just can't see us getting even half of the above.

So, you see LFC wanting to become LUFC and think we should follow suit?

Players wanting to leave who all attended the WC and were told, and could see, how much money was open to them. They have decided that is what they want, Saints have decided they would not bankrupt the club to give it to them. LFC (LUFC?) are going to pay over double for a player that they could have bought a season ago and turned away from? Seems to me like panic buying Saints should avoid. The club has money to re-invest and needs to take its time to bring in players who are right for the club, and maybe with potential to increase in value if they want to sell on next summer. We can well do without a clutch of Osvaldos.

Don't think Ronald Koeman would have come here unless he was convinced about the ambition of the club. I think greedy players and the Cortese hangover has brought this about. Too easy to blame Les Reed for all of this but something was brewing long before this and I still think we will be ok. Might be best giving the club a chance rather than just aimlessly pointing the finger with no evidence to back up your allegations.
