Koeman has just stated he will never sell Fonte, you silly doubters! ;)

1.) 13 Aug 2015 16:41:25
But what if our captain did a Villa captain? What if Fonte 'did a Delph' - imagine the scenes!

2.) 13 Aug 2015 17:17:53
Sky sports actually said 'Villa are in talks with saints' can't really blame us for jumping the gun

3.) 13 Aug 2015 20:37:09
If true there must be something fundamentally wrong behind the scenes

4.) 16 Aug 2015 00:32:19
Today showed just how much the need to strengthen is necessary. Not good enough all over the pitch. We can accept a bad day at the office occasionally but that takes the piss

5.) 16 Aug 2015 14:37:11
Hi guys

got home after the Everton match, what a joke Koomans just realised you can't keep selling your prized assets for millions and go to the pound shop for replacements, Iknow we had a few out with injuries but the team he put out against Everton was just not good enough if he persists with players from the back Matt Target, who was caught out of position on a number of times and woefully one paced,He's no where near ready for premiership football, Yoshida, again caught ball watching, soares who wants to concentrate more on defence rather than running around like a headless chicken caught upfield to many times Lukaka made him look like a novice and left him for dead, and as for Steve davies if he's a defensive midfielder were in big trouble, Yet to see dusan Tadic have a decent game for the Saints, gets lostin the game and seems to think he's better than he is, goes down to easy always looking for a foul you keep hearing the Chapel crowd singing his name but they must be watching a different player than me. I feel sorry for LONG, PELLE, WANYAMA,MANE, and Fonte at least they were showing some effort, Koomnan needs a quality CB, a good LEFT BACK, to cover for ryan B, and a attacking midfield player who can open up defences unfortunatly the powers to be sold the ones we had for mega bucks and bought cheap imitations. Southampton have sold Eight players over the last two seasons almost a complete team, they were all good players in their positions , LB CB DM TWO RBs AM CF and lost Toby TO the spuds you can't take that amount of quality players out of any team and expect to progress to the next level, you may get away with it for a season but eventually it will catch you out so be prepared for a hard season Ronald Kooman great manager he is but he can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear
regards
disillusioned

6.) 16 Aug 2015 15:34:09
Was wondering when the first WUM would make an appearance, impressive that you've done your homework too. However where you slipped up was saying the Chapel stand was singing Tadic's name, that's the most quiet stand in the stadium every game, nice try though.

7.) 16 Aug 2015 17:08:24
Am I the only One who was totally impressed with Romeu. He constantly made himself available, great ball reception and distribution skills. Plus always ready to backtrack and help out the back 4 pity he picked up an early yellow card otherwise we might have been able to better judge whether he will make up for the loss of the spider.
I know weare short of quality cover in places but keep the faith COYR

Chester set for West Brom move. I am not too sure if this would have been a bad move for us or not. Personally, I don't rate Yoshida (although he has got better) or Gardos so I believe he could have been a step up, but for £8m? Tough one.

Plenty of other options out there with Van Dijk, Caulker both heavily linked. Still others such as N'Koulou or Romagnoli whom will be slightly more difficult to sign, but i'm sure worth it!

Hoping for some news this week!

saintnev

1.) 28 Jul 2015 14:43:52
Other than the fact that some in the media linked Chester to us briefly, it certainly shouldn't be seen as a loss, we couldn't have gone any further than making an enquiry if that. Maybe we will hear a little bit from Koeman about targets or the progression of getting any deals done around the Vitesse game.

2.) 28 Jul 2015 17:00:22
Yoshida is better than caulker

3.) 28 Jul 2015 19:00:59
Saints should be looking at someone like Alsssio Romagnoli, italian u21 cb with bags of potential and current ability. If we are going for someone then this would be my shout, not caulker or chester, has someone unplugged the black box with those two in the frame?

Not a rumour. Seen the line-ups for today. Have both Cedric and Tadic down the right against Cleverly and Galloway, the latter being very inexperienced. Praying we smash down the right not only with our players there being very creative and dangerous but also to go through Everton's apparent weakness. Won't be happy without 3 points today!

saintnev

1.) 15 Aug 2015 13:29:06
Not the best of starts.

2.) 15 Aug 2015 13:37:48
Yoshida is so rubbish

3.) 15 Aug 2015 13:37:53
0-2 at half time. Not looking good

4.) 15 Aug 2015 14:43:14
If anything comes out of this today its given the opportunity to buy before the end of August.

We must action quickly to shore up the PL. Forget about the Europs Cup as I said before. This season already looks like it has to be consolidation and consolidation fast.

5.) 15 Aug 2015 16:06:08
Forget about Euro Cups? Why? So we can finish top 6 and play same Euro cup next season. I know it will be tough season for us, but I'm pretty sure we can finish around 10th this season with good run in Euro cup, too. It's unrealistic to finish top 6 and have good season in Euro Cup.

6.) 15 Aug 2015 18:43:54
winning the euro cup guarantees us champions league football, I'd take that and finishing mid table than the outside possibility of us bettering last season finish, even with the same squad as last season it'd be hard for us to break into the top 6

A lot of you seem incredibly optimistic or rather blind to the fact that although we have made considerable profit, our transfer dealings over the past 2 years have been incredibly poor overall. We have genuinely sold a solid champions league team in Lallana, Shaw, Lovren, Chambers, Clyne, Morgan is likely to follow and Alderweireld also seems like a loss. No matter how well the season went last season, a lot of you also don't seem to acknowledge the luck that was involved. We have lost all attacking flair and creativity and haven't replaced a Rickie Lambert on form goalscorer. Its hard to take the realisation of the team we could have. We have always sold but not in such depth when its most required now. Pelle isn't great, Tadic was average, Elia fell apart at the end, Long just worked hard but isn't a starter. Bertrand and Forster were our only good signings and now they are injured. One good signing in Mane doesn't cover all those lost. You should all be worried and be more realistic. We will do well to be top half this season!

saintnev

1.) 08 Jul 2015 12:01:03
Yeh I agree.
There doesn't seem to be any quality coming in of late although Jaunmi and Soares are rated quite highly.
As for Martina I'm very dubious of this signing.

There is a lot of transfer window open and once Morgan leaves I hope that we bring in somebody of his quality as a replacement and hope that the board have planned for losing Toby although I seriously doubt this.

I think we will struggle in defence this season as we have lost half of it and the new will find it hard to adapt at first no matter how good they might be.

I think we need 2 decent centre halves and 2 more Midfielders.

Any thoughts gents?

2.) 08 Jul 2015 13:08:04
Last 2 years? For me the likes of mayuka, Osvaldo and that CB who never played a game before going back to the same club are just as bad. Genuinely believe that pound for pound, performances and goals they have improved the incomings but I still get your point, it could be a lot better.

3.) 08 Jul 2015 14:18:04
Solid champions league team?? Are you kidding me?
Lambert was a legend but didn't score more than 15 goals a premier league season for us.
Lallana was skilful yet weak footed and again didn't contribute enough goals
Lovren has shown why he was third choice in France
Chambers is potential as is Shaw. And both aren't regulars in the new teams. Clyne has gone to a Europa league club.
Yes it would have been nice to keep these players but they are definitely not champions league. And too get the amount of money we did for them is unquestionably positive for the sustainability of the club (including the new academy buildings )
I'm sorry to admit but we are punching above our weight and a 32k seater stadium is not champions league wages material. We can't and won't hold onto players with ambitions of winning major trophies, it's simple as that. Until our global brand is a lot bigger than it is and we can bring in the revenue that the bigger clubs do then we are banging are heads against a glass roof with the top 6 looking down at us.
It's not to say we won't give them a good battering on the pitch but as status and financial ability goes. We are Europa league at best
COYR

4.) 08 Jul 2015 15:43:14
Not at all! are you telling me the following team wouldn't make the champions league?

Forster

Clyne
Shaw
Fonte
Lovren

Schneiderlin
Wanyama

Lallana
Davis
Jay-Rod

Lambert

This is a pretty solid team, one that gave all the top teams a run for their money despite how well they are playing for their current teams, while at Southampton they were fantastic - hence why they were bought by big-spending clubs. Bar Forster this team we had 2 years ago. I would also imagine that we would have added to the team so the likes of Mane etc could have all still come to Saints. I am sorry, but there is just no comparison to this team and the team we currently have. In football more than other areas, you get what you pay for. 1 million to replace Lovren is absolutely criminal (Alderweireld replaced him but he's now gone as he was on loan so Martina is in effect his new replacement). The boardroom are laughing all the way to the bank.

All you need to do is look at those who have joined the club and those who have left the club.

In
Forster
Mane
Lone
Pelle
Bertrand
Tadic
(Martina, Cedric, Juanmi, Skelenburg)

Out
Lambert
Lovren
Lallana
Shaw
Chambers
Alderweireld
Elia
Clyne
Djuricic
Davis
Schneiderlin (likely)

lets be honest.

5.) 08 Jul 2015 22:02:40
Have I missed something Davis out?
I love your optimism about the team but it's not champions league.

6.) 09 Jul 2015 20:03:27
Are you telling me that you think this team couldn't get into the Champions League?!

Jay Rod

Lallana Mane Tadic

Schneiderlin Wanyama Alderweireld

Shaw Lovren Fonte Clyne

Forster

Im sorry, but i'd take this team over the Spurs team, Liverpool team and even United team.

I don't get it. Yes, we have replaced a majority of those going out with other players bar Cork and Toby. but why is no one picking up on the fact that last season, especially towards the end, we struggled with squad numbers. without Europe. We certainly need more. I am hoping (HOPING) for at least 3. Centre back, Right Winger and Striker. Striker I know, we have a few, but praying Sam goes out on loan for another season and we buy a goalscorer. Pelle, Long and Juanmi are not goalscorers. Look at how well Villa have done with Benteke. Imagine if we had a player like that.

Cedric was better than Tadic attacking. he is a good signing I feel. with Van Dijk and Clasie back there will be sufficient cover when he does blaze forward.

Laughable some of you think 5-8. You are all blind due to your bias. All the clubs above us have strengthened very well. We struggled with our squad last season with Europa. Defensively we lagged off towards the end, I won't even start with our attacking ability. Our preseason games show a lot. Got hammered by average European teams. Not one goal. If we don't play Jay up top I am begging for a huge striker to come on. Austin for 15 is good business. Liverpool just bid over 30 for benteke, both had shit teams but managed a good amount of goals. Pelle not good enough. The lad needs to learn to don't need to hammer it every single time even close range. Accuracy is poor. Almost hit the post as many times as the net. Gaston I'm hoping will get another chance. He is an attacking midfield player we no longer have. Creative. Also need a CB, RW. I'll be happy with those 3.
