Heard today David villa is desperate to play premier leauge footy will consider any club, reckon we should get him now can't see any manager saying no don't want him!been there done it and how good for our young strikers to play/train/learn from him

Believable5 Unbelievable19

Yeah it would be a pretty good way of getting rid of 100k a week too.

Agree15 Disagree2

Apparently he has stated is willing to take a pay cut, just wants to play here, if true how refreshing he has had his big move when he went barca so daubt he is skint

Agree3 Disagree4

Even so, I'm not sure I'd want two strikers with a combined age of. 65 in a squad trying to build for the future.

Agree6 Disagree1

He wants to move from champions of Spain and Champo league finalists to the BPL. Ok.

Agree2 Disagree0

Fair point Jamie saint bit watching him the final no way looks like a 32yr old looked fit as a fiddle and think he would get us bags of. Goals

It seems that Ronald Koeman is in the running for Saints manager. according to the bookies

Believable9 Unbelievable5

28 May 2014 15:13:19
Koeman is a good name. He will have great scouting links across Holland and Belgium and Ghana too - they run a huge academy as well and base the club on developing home grown talent - Koeman would fit the Saints like a hand in a glove. You will not even remember Poccetino in 2 seasons time. I am 100% behind this choice.

Agree22 Disagree3

Regardless of who the next manager is he will need to prevent Pochetno poaching our best players. I just hope our board had enough sense to add a standard clause in his release preventing him from signing our players fo a while

Agree12 Disagree1

He's just resigned As well. Anything in it ED? Nice comments from Ralph today, I hope the new boss is decent and is appointed soon and we keep our players and sign decent ones. Is yakin an option?

Never forgiven him for that free kick he scored. Shouldn't have been on the pitch!

29 May 2014 08:20:53
Koeman is a very good shout, the fact that he's a bit of an older guy too helps. As he is less likely to use us as a stepping stone like MP did, he's been there, done that managed in the CL

Agree2 Disagree1

Is he any good? I just hope we get a decent manager

Whilst it may still be fairly speculative, there has been a few interesting references in Tottenham's decision over the selection of Pochettino. Namely that discussions may have been ongoing for up to two weeks, therefore it's likely the Saints board will already have worked on a short list of replacements. Secondly the contract with which Saints offered Poch had the assurances of a good transfer budget and players only being sold if the bids matched the clubs high valuations. But in the end it appears he opted to join Tottenham to further boost his career opportunities.

Believable15 Unbelievable2

I agree with the majority of what you say, although regarding career opportunities you only have to look back at previous managers at spurs over recent times, can he put them into the top four. definitely not.

Agree9 Disagree3

28 May 2014 16:17:10
could he have put soton in the top 6, definitely not

Agree5 Disagree27

I disagree with the concept of top 4 being impossible for Spurs or Southampton. Both clubs could do it if managed the right way. Unfortunately for both clubs current leadership seems to be weak.

Spurs have to stick with Pochettino now they have gotten him for several seasons for him to match their wishes, but Levy is impatient and therefore could be manager searching this time again next year.

The Southampton board have to put the money to back the team if they want to see it happen. Starting with the bringing in of another quality manager who will work the players hard and the retaining of key players. Something which is going to be difficult to pull off it would seem but given the right choice and some financial backing, Southampton could yet do it. The risk is though that it is unclear if key talents will stay or who will take over as manager, meaning the potential top 4 finish in future seasons is on the line depending on decisions made over the next few months.

If Yakin was appointed as the new Saints boss - then it would indicate to me that talks between spurs and saints for MoPo where going on way before the season ended, it seems a bit strange as to why Yakin would leave his post as a manager having secured CL and back to back trophies. My guess is he quit for a new challenge with Saints so no compensation would need to be paid.

Who know's just a guess.

Believable11 Unbelievable3

{Ed005's Note - Yakin leaving Basel was nothing to do with the Saints. Lazio was the intended destination.}

Hi ed005 do you know if Lazio are still in the frame for him

{Ed005's Note - I no nothing useful and am not here to answer any of your questions.}

So Ed005 why are you here?

Welcome back ED02.
Hope you're here to stay!
I'm sorry again for some of the moronic comments you were subjected too recently by some of the members on here.

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to answer piles of questions nor I am going to accept any abuse. We will see how it goes. I am also really busy the next two days.}

Eds back! Not going to fire loads if questions your way, although I have an inkling you have inside info on the managerial saga ;)

I think Steve mclarren should be our manager because of what he's done with Darby, also if he does come to us what's stopping him from bringing will Hughes?

Believable2 Unbelievable32

I think he could do a good job with us, plays good football with Derby so maybe, but unless we loose any players we're unlikely to need CM signings as we have quite a lot of them, I think someone like Yakin be good

What do you think our new manager (when we get him) will do with osvaldo, I wouldn't mind giving him another chance to be honest, any one else?

Believable10 Unbelievable22

28 May 2014 11:07:02
I have posted Brian Laudrup to be the next saints manager.I should have said Micheal Laudrup. Sorry My mistake.LOL

Agree1 Disagree4

A good question, what does happen to Osvaldo? I think however that it wasn't the manager that he didn't get on with, rather the players and team as a whole, looking at his twitter account, he seems to get on well with "better" players, thinks he's better than he is perhaps? Thinking he is "above" some little club from the south coast

Agree4 Disagree0

He should've never have come here if he thinks like that! I think he'll go, to Inter I reckon

Rumours in the news Poch wants Lallana at Spurs,
not impressed at all. Hopefully the board will be true to their word and appoint a high-calibre manager soon to ensure we retain our positivity and keep our best assets.
Poch should do the decent thing and keep his hands off our players. What are other Saints' fans views?

Believable24 Unbelievable3

After his comments recently I can't see AL moving to anything less than a CL club.

Now all the speculation has been lad to rest. Good luck to MoPo, Gutted as I am we need to move on. I would like to see Brian Laudrup or the Ex Basel Boss Murat Yakin, both young managers who play the game in the right way.
Its now down to the Club to pull their fingers out & get it sorted as soon as possible, the longer they wait the more likely players will be wanting to jump ship. Surely Les Reed knew that Poch was going to leave & if a manager is not in place within the next week we could be looking at not just 1-2 players leaving but maybe 5-6. Don't want to sound doom & gloom but we need to get the man in & let him get a feel for the club & the players. Les Reed is under big pressure now, please get sorted sooner that later. COYR

Agree9 Disagree1

Weird one. Lallana has had a great season, but I have lost count the amount of tunes he brought off Adam with 60 odd minutes gone. I wouldn't worry too much if we remained ambitious and spent his transfer money on a new player. If the manager is "high calibre" there is every chance of attracting top talent

Agree1 Disagree2

I hope Saints players realise Spurs isn't a step up. Manchester United and the CL qualified teams you can understand why they would consider it.

Agree8 Disagree1

Sorry Micheal Laudrup NOT Brian. LOL

I agree with Rowester, Laudrup or Yashin (Swiss connection?). All the players are on holiday or the World Cup at the moment so I'd expect everythig to be concluded in good time.
MoPo did a good job for us and it's a shame he didn't have faith in the dream that he helped sell to the fans but that's history now.
Reading the message onthe official website the Club are on the same journey as before.we've just paused to take on new passengers.

There's no loyalty in football anymore, we've known this for years. It's been on the cards since Cortese left that Poch would follow him out the door. Always had a feeling that Poch was very much using us as a spring board and considering the board offered him a very attractive deal, my gut feeling was spot on. When he comes to St Mary's with his new rabble I expect the fans to give him both barrels, he deserve nothing less. The board need to say 'NO' to all player advances or risk deralling our season before it's even began. Poch leaving for Spurs is a bitter pill to swallow but if he starts coming in and taking our players to, well, then where the hell does that leave us and what does that say about our Chairman. We need to secure a manager ASAP. Some one with proven class and perhaps someone that may raise a few eyebrows. This ship needs steadying more than ever.

Agree13 Disagree0

I know it's not as easy said as done, but the club should freeze all outgoing transfers (even Shaw & Lallana), until a new manager is in place to assess the squad. I'm presently surprised but the attitude here, in the current situation. Try checking out the Southampton FC page on FB, where people are resorting to name calling and slagging off MP, instead of being grateful for the joint highest BPL position since Strachan. A young hungry manager with a philosophy to take this team to the next level, while keeping most of the squad is what we need.

Agree5 Disagree1

Irw, I like the Journey analogy & do agree, Dell Daze it could be the press again stirring up news re Lallana, and. I think Poch has made a mistake going to Spurs, I hope I`m wrong, poisoned chalice!

COYSaaaaaaiiiiinnnnntttttsssss

Agree6 Disagree0

MOPO has gone to a club that has not won a League championship in 55 years. They have never won the either the European Cup or the Champions League.

The man himself had one good season at Espanyol and of course one good season for us where his tactics caught a lot of other clubs by surprise. He, as yet, has no major prize to his name. I wish him well, but spurs are neither an elite club and as yet he is not an elite manager.

He is in fact Spurs third choice as Van Gall has gone to Old Trafford and De Boer is happy at Ajax.

The guff printed in the echo today regarding Liebherr and the Board at SFC
is just that, Guff. Better analysis and opinion are expressed here on this site.

Adam wants to go, Luke will go and I would suggest that once Spurs and the rumour machine had got going on MOPO
he was always going to go as well. He had the opportunity on several occasions over the last few weeks to come out and state his intentions. He failed to do so. He wanted to go.

We remain a well managed prem club wit a great youth system. We cleared the best part of 80 million on the eighth placed finish and the clubs revenue has increased considerably.

My hunch is that the board far from 'being played' by MOPO were ready this and will be sorting out the new manager as we discuss the issue here. My money is on Yakin the link with Liebherr and Kruger may be too obvious but he would fit the bill a young ambitious manager who gets the best of out of his squad. Anyone see how Basel played in the champions league?

Agree6 Disagree1

AL won't go to Spurs and everyone saying we should be grateful to MoPo are right. I might be wrong but Swansea's last 3 managers were Martinez, Rodgers then Laudrup if we choose wisely we can go from strength to strength.

Agree7 Disagree1

Lol all the spurs fans are getting excited over signing every southampton player going. poch's only got a 50mil budget at spurs, won't even get one of our players with that ahahah.

Agree11 Disagree3

28 May 2014 16:22:54
im sure spurs finished above soton, can't see why they would want to sign every soton player going, it will just be lallana

Agree1 Disagree12

Seen spurs fans today thinking Lovren, Shaw, Chambers, Morgan, JWP, Lallana, J-Rod are all going to follow MoPo to spurs
