Regardless of weather you agree with the transfer policy, the formation or players used. We must all agree that tonight is massive psychologically. A win is a must to put us above Cardiff.

lets get behind the boys COYS!

may sound like a weird shout for a new manager but what about Vladimir Petkovic he is Switzerland National team coach.

1.) 25 Nov 2018 21:28:18
How about my gran? She couldn't do any worse than Hughes.

2.) 27 Nov 2018 09:49:32
Get them working like clockwork.

3.) 27 Nov 2018 12:34:36
Probably knit a few passes together.

Tadic anyone. Making Madrid look stupid.

1.) 05 Mar 2019 22:32:52
Amazing performance by him today but we will see if he can keep this up for 2 seasons. Played well similarly with us first season or 2 then dropped off.

2.) 06 Mar 2019 08:59:08
He's relishing the free roaming role he has in the Ajax squad, getting himself in all different positions in the final third of the pitch, and not relied on to track back and defend. You're really seeing a different player this season, 26 goals and 15 assists in all competitions are outstanding, goals against Bayern and Madrid really does show off his quality. I hope that him and Ajax can go even further in the champions league. I'd go as far as saying I hope Liverpool go through and he shows VVD the ropes like he did Madrid.

3.) 06 Mar 2019 14:35:18
Always rated Tadic. Don't think that some of our previous managers gave him a chance to play his natural game. Only downside was that he didn't track back but then I remember that we had a player similar to that before in a certain Matthew Le Tissier and he didn't do too bad for us.

4.) 06 Mar 2019 17:19:42
I mean, he wanted to leave and wasn't going to sign a new contract. Could've kept him and had half that player and then lost him on a free or made a few quid towards a replacement.

12 Feb 2019 14:24:56
i think it is one from six to get relegated (Huddersfield and Fulham are down) can we get more points that a least one of the others? i think so. we are playing better and we have a proper coach. Danny Ings is a huge miss but we are scoring goals.

1.) 13 Feb 2019 13:13:18
Right now I can’t see Burnley or Palace going down. I have a feeling Rafa will see Newcastle over the line. Cardiff are in inspired form however they have a difficult run in. But Brighton are dropping like a stone - right now they’re our best bet. They have a huge March where they play all four teams around them, much like our February, so if they don’t win any of those I think they’ll be gone.
Even so I think we should just about find enough and will finish 15th. Cardiff or Brighton to join the other two.

2.) 13 Feb 2019 13:27:56
I think that it could go down to the last couple of games. In the past Saints have had players with pride and passion for the club and they've shown some backbone when in a dogfight at the end of the season but I don't see many of those type of players in our team now. Hopefully RH can get them firing during their break.

3.) 14 feb 2019 18:29:53
so how many points do you think we need to stay up?

4.) 14 Feb 2019 22:40:56
I think that Huddersfield and Fulham are down but with Cardiff, Newcastle and Burnley picking up points it's imperative that we start to string a few good results together. At the moment I'm thinking that we'll need 38 points to stay up. Hopefully Brighton keep dropping points as they are now within touching distance.

5.) 14 Feb 2019 23:44:27
I can see ourselves scrambling our way to 38. The good news is if it’s in our hands on the final day I’d think Huddersfield at home SHOULD be a banker.
Looking at other run ins I’d give around the following;

Brighton 41
Burnley 41
Palace 40
Newcastle 39
Saints 38
Cardiff 36

That however is being fairly biased towards home wins between the teams in question, and all of the bottom eight still pretty much all have to play each other so if any one of those teams begins to capitulate at home I think they’ll be gone. We can’t afford to lose another home game against a non ‘Big 6’ side, but I think our best hope is that either Cardiff or Brighton go completely off the boil in March.

Good thing for us is aside Liverpool we don’t really play anyone with anything to play for in our last 7/ 8 games which should be a help (WHU, BOU, WAT, HUD etc) . I think if one team (like Burnley) get on a roll and end up with 48, that’ll be great for us if they can plough through Brighton, Newcastle and Cardiff.

Ultimately I think we need 4 wins from 12 - Fulham Bournemouth Wolves and Huddersfield at home are our best bet, else a squeaky 1-0 at Newcastle or Brighton. I’m still quite confident but if we don’t beat Fulham I’ll begin to be quite concerned.

Anyone else feeling that if we loose to Bournemouth at the weekend that we should be getting rid of MH? We could do with a young energetic manager or someone who loves the club. Maybe promote from within? Jaidi anyone?

1.) 09 Oct 2018 20:53:06
I think we need to change sooner rather than later to give the new man enough time to get to know the players and decide what he wants in the transfer window.

2.) 10 Oct 2018 10:00:25
I don't think Jaïdi is or ready to manage in the PL, from what I have seen he's been struggling to manage his teams since he came in, but this year he's taken on a better generation - Slattery, Obafemi, Vokins, Ramsay etc. Craig Fleming however seems to have worked well and got a promotion from U18s to U23s assistant, so I'd rate him above anyone.

3.) 10 Oct 2018 10:03:21
Yep I agree with both comments there. i'd like to see Jaidi given a chance, he's clearly doing well with the u23s. I feel that Hughes only kept us up because he has a lot of grit, and injected belief into the players. However he does not seem to have any tactical nous, and planning for a whole season, and then individual games, seems way to much for him. I would like to see Gabbiadini start more but also armstrong. The current formation does not really allow them both to start. I like the two striker thing, especially ings, but in order to get armstrong in i'd like to see this:
Cedric Bednarek Vestergaard, Bertrand
Lemina Hojbjerg
Elyounoussi, Armstrong, Redmond
The problem with this is no second striker, but it would be nice to see more goals from wingers, especially redmond on the form he's in. Also can we please get rid of Long?

4.) 11 Oct 2018 17:25:20
Jaidi? Have you lot gone insane? Lol.

5.) 11 Oct 2018 19:41:09
any better ideas MilkySaint?

6.) 12 Oct 2018 19:46:12
Not off the top of my head, no. I don't know who is available or a realistic appointment. But jaidi? That is some serious straw clutching. May as well appoint Steve wigley.

7.) 13 Oct 2018 19:46:11
I think that we should go all out for Brendon Rodgers. I'm sure he wants a challenge.

8.) 13 Oct 2018 22:32:10
BR would like a challenge but I don't think he would be any different than MH honestly. Don't rate either manager. As for replacements Jardim might be interesting or maybe a zidane (even though I think he'd be similar to our past coaching staff at first) .

9.) 16 Oct 2018 07:26:11
you think Jardim or Zidane want to manage saints? Think we would be looking at a manager from somewhere else in Europe. If we loose to Bournemouth will MH get the boot? I think not but hope so.

26 May 2018 12:15:43
So out of the teams that went down do you think we could sign any of their players? If so who would you like? (A little bit of fantasy football) Shawcross Allen. Mowson and Fabianski. Phillips and Hagazi.

16 May 2018 14:40:34
Now that we have stayed up I think it is important that the club looks at the way they want the team to be set up.

In terms of tranfer policy (right attitude, cost, age, what is needed)

Formation (try to have all the teams worknig on the same ideas)

The 'Southampton way' of playing

How players progress from the youth teams. (we all woud like to see more players come through our youth system)

I don't think we will see huge changes maybe 3 players in and 3 out. (for me FF goes, Boufal goes and Long) Looking for 2 pacey attackers, a GK and a CB.

Mark Hughes stays for me as long as he dosnt have complete control over tranfers.
(he seams to have the current squad happy)

1.) 16 May 2018 17:17:38
Hi lost

Good points I think we all agree that our recent transfer policy has not been up to the previous very high standard but also other teams have caught up and we were possibly spoilt by the likes of Mane, Pelle who were RK's choice and great buys like Wanyama and FF! . Our problems this season have been our inability to create enough good chances and score enough goals. We are not alone with this problem it is only the top teams who for the most part play a high tempo pressing, high scoring game. We have all complained that Sfc were too slow, too predictable giving the other teams a chance to regroup and then retreating inviting other teams to attack us. I am sure we all want us to be more ambitious, brave and please entertaining, and committed some of our performances eg spurs away, west ham away and others have been totally unacceptable and must not be allowed to happen again, watching Sfc this year has been very difficult. I want next season to make St Mary's a fortress again but not through boring, stifling football but expansive fast flowing football. Also to play in a more attacking, attractive way has to make Sfc more marketable in Asia which has to be pivotal to our new owner. I have also long held the opinion that having been in St Mary's over 15 years that to fail to regularly sell out the stadium is a major commercial failing bearing in mind the ultimate capacity is 46,000. With both Bournemouth and Brighton potential long term stayers in the Premiership our potential catchment area is restricted both east and west. But if we want to go to the next level we have to fill the ground on a consistent basis and need to expand the ground to meet the demand. I am really hopeful with MH and hope that this season was merely a blip and lessons have been learned and we go back to playing the Southampton way. coyr.

2.) 17 May 2018 08:02:25
I don't think much has changed with our transfer policy. Boufal and Redmond both fit into out blackbox. Yes, they're both not as good as Mane but it was always going to be hard replacing on of the best wingers in the league.
I would argue that, it could come down to the management of them as well. I mean none of us rate CP or MP so actually had we had a better manager, these two might be 2 totally different players.
As for other signings since RK left. PEH, he's been great this season. I voted for him as player of the year, for the pure fact he seems like a very passionate. Did not look like he was ever going to be in the team at the start of the season, but he's managed to cement his place and has been solid.
Lemina, this was a signing that never made sense because we didn't really need another defensive mid with PEH, Romeu, Davis and you could argue Reed. But at the same time, the board probably thought at the time, 18m we'll sell him for 50 after a couple of seasons. Either ways, when he has a good game he's the best player on the pitch.
Gabbiadini, he's good and doesn't play enough in my opinion. He's been a bench warmer for a poor saints team this season. No wonder he's lost interest.
Bernerak came in, in probably our most important games of the season and showed class defensively. He skill needs to develop in some places, but he'll get there with more game time and as he gets older.
Hoedt, he's not been great this season. Does look slow, but he's comfortable with the ball and solid in the air. He'll get better as time progresses.
What we need is another CB, as I feel we never replaced Fonte. And you could pin point the main downfall being down to him leaving. I'm not saying he's as good as he was 4 season ago. But that type of player to have around is so valuable. He's got so much experience at the club. And not one player would say a bad word about him. I would have liked him to stay with us until retirement and take on a role inside the club.

3.) 17 May 2018 22:05:43
Hi guys

I see that Sfc earned just over £107m from the Premier League plus income from ticket sales and sponsorship so a not insignificant amount of money.

Makes good sense but is very scary as it maybe to late to get the right manager once Reed is replaced.

We as Saints fans are realistic and I had hopped we would be competing for somewhere between 7th and 12th this season. maybe we will, and I would be happy with that after last season. The problem is you should be getting points against the teams playing for those places (Everton, Burnley, Leicester) we have not in the first 3 games. could be a long season. Look at Bournemouth with a great start to the season and dare I say it doing things how we used to.
