In previous press conferences koeman has said that he's still looking to sign more people and stuff like that, but in his most recent one he didn't seem as confident and I'm 50/50 on whether or not be is still looking to sign Townsend, I hope he does as he's stated before that he still needs to sign a winger and we need another cb too, because even though fonte played well last weekend we can't really rely on him to be consistent and stay at that level for every match. We haven't got long to go so we should get signing fast.

1.) We have got long. He was 12mil.

2.) Long will do what he has been signed for. heres not here to score 20 a season. he is here to pester the defence when we press and cause mistakes.

3.) Koeman said he was the running striker, and that he has the qualities pelle doesn't have and pelle has the qualities long doesn't, he is I hope a temporary winger for us until we either sign someone or until jrod comes back from injury

4.) Very expensive temporary winger.

Rumours suggesting the board could be giving £100millon to build a new squad for the saints! Personally I'm sure they will be giving him funds for players but I don't think they would allocate that much. Any truth in this? Also new kits to be released in coming weeks.

1.) 100m not a chance prob buy 4 players at around 40m tops

2.) Perhaps once the transfer business is concluded for this window, we could pour the rest into the academy. Make the best better.

3.) DSJ 20V, I am pretty sure we will be bringing in more than 4 as we will still need a squad for next season. But yeah can't imagine more than 40 million will be spent on said new squad.

4.) £40 million spent on players will probably cost the club £100 million over the full length of the contracts

5.) The club offered poch £50mil plus player sales, can't see why it'd be different for Koeman

6.) Because we've sold players

7.) I think the 100m is realistic as a transfer budget being talked about.
I thought it was 40m plus player sales though?
Anyway my concern is that number is just being said to make the fans happy.
Honestly I don't think we will spend more then 30 mill this window.
I really hope I'm proved wrong but it just looks like a asset stripping at the club at the moment which could mean a sale is likely soon. (the club not the players)
Again I hope I'm wrong.

8.) Absolutely no way was MoPo offered £40 or £50 million plus player sales to spend on transfer fees alone. Nor will Koeman.

The above figures might be right but they will be for the entire transfer package, including fees, bonuses, wages, signing on fees etc.

9.) I think it is very clear that we are not asset stripping. Yes there are a couple of screw ups in the background which we know most are from the old regime i. e kits however, you only have to look at the spend going on in the infrastructure like coaching staff (most recent being sammy lee), stadium upgrades like the led lighting, pitch being dug up at end of season for something (can't recall why but maybe something to do with heating or drainage?), new positions created for club staff & of course the academy. As I mentioned in a previous post, yes we are getting top dollar for our "better" players however this is being reinvested back into the team. Ok, so all of it might not be reinvested in this transfer window or next but we are building for the future.

10.) I agree with steve098 we are the first club in Europe to have Led lighting. why would we invest in something like this if we did not have ambition and a vision for the future. koeman has been told he will receive £50 million plus the sum of all transfers from people wanting to leave this in fact could raise to over £100 Million. I will pass judgment after our first game, until then I have faith that we are being told the truth however a signing or two would ease saints fans fears. Koeman starts work tomorrow - hopefully some good news soon

11.) Nice to read such an engaging post from Stevo, keep it up mate!

If you think about it from what just the rumours tell us southampton have a very good plan for anyone who leaves, Lambert has left, which has made mad rumours going around for a £8mil deal being made for him, if lallana ends up leaving that dusan tadic fella will replace him, and if shaw decided to leave that Netherlands full back van dijk (think that's how you spell it) would be a replacement for him, honestly don't think the Marshall deal is going to happen soon as Lambert's replacement is more important, although I do think he could go as he would probably prefer playing at a bpl side.

1.) *Pelle not 'him'

2.) 26 Jun 2014 09:38:04
Van Dijk is a central defender he wouldn't be to replace Shaw, he would be to either replace Lovren or to fit into Koeman's 5-3-2 system.

3.) Do we still have interest in caulker? I think if we were to play a 5-3-2 we'd definitely need another man and he's played really well last season for Cardiff despite their being relegated

4.) Lambert went for £4 million

2-1 loss to liverhampton, we deserved at least a point especially from what the second half brought us, still, great goal from clyne, and I think that if we can make the scousers struggle for points then I think we can finish in a similar position to last season, COYR!

1.) Top 4 performance well done Saints

2.) 17 Aug 2014 19:27:17
sterling man of the match? I thought wanyama was excellent, although he was at fault for the winner, we were very unlucky, brilliant performance, no more doom and gloom, get behind the team onwards and upwards

Koeman did state in his press conference that he was still looking to sign 1-2 more players before the transfer window shuts, I'm personally hoping this is Gonzalez and vlaar/van dijk he is hinting at, Gonzalez can also play as a winger which is where koeman also said he wanted improving, and we do need another cb and I think van dijk would be the better option as he will link up well with Forster because of Celtic, how well the players are with eachover means so much and that is my main concern with the other players, that we may have brought in really good talent but none of them have played much with eachover, still, moving on from Liverpool, I think once jrod comes back from injury we'll be stronger than ever, possibly being better than last season, let's get signing and get some points:)

1.) 16 Aug 2014 00:41:52
Ron Vlaar is a proper true professional footballer and would link in easily due to his experience in the Premier League. I just think he is the missing link to our squad with his ability to stick with a player and not let him find space to shoot. Very, very under rated player who has been playing for the wrong type of team for far too long.

2.) The fact that Saints have had bids for Sam Byram turned down would suggest RB is one of the positions they're trying to fill, not CB.

I was hoping Jack Stephens would be developing well enough to be promoted to, say, 4th choice CB, but it looks like he's going to be farmed out to Swindon again.

No idea who the winger would be. Redmond and Solly March have been linked, and this Gonzalez chap - then there's Schelotto from a few weeks' back.

It'd be nice to think Koeman has a surprise up his sleeve from the Dutch league that he knows so well - Jean-Paul Boëtius or (rather ambitious) Memphis Depay. Sadly Quincy Promes has just joined Spartak Moscow. Would've been a perfect fit.

3.) 16 Aug 2014 01:10:32
hope luke shaw not to far away from playing for man utd, nice lad

4.) 16 Aug 2014 09:59:06
I do feel for luke. Gets his dream move, earns us a fortune and then gets injured. Lad has a lot to prove.

5.) ^ Gets his dream move, earns us a fortune, gets fat* and then gets injured

Ive heard that Southampton are planning a £70million spree and are looking at Manchester United trio Hernandez, Young and Wilfried Zaha. Any truth in this?

1.) We are interested but the 70mill will not just be spent on these three players, they would cost closer to 45mil which leaves a good chunk for other targets.

31 Jul 2014 23:29:24
Koeman stated in his post-match interview that he's hoping to complete 2-3 signings by the end of the weekend, any ideas who they could be? I'm assuming rojo is one but not sure on the other 1-2?

1.) Not sure if the Rojo deal will go through considering we just got Bertrand, hopefully we do and use him as a cb and to cover the left at times. I'm hoping Forster gets signed this week imo I think we could be stronger in the goalkeeping department. Not to sure who the 3rd will be.

2.) 01 Aug 2014 06:34:59
Hopefully Guidetti

3.) Tadir is one (all but confirmed by Koeman after the game yesterday) thinking Vlaar could be the other

Came from fc twente, same team tadic came from, was a bright prospect in Holland, hasn't shone at all in the bpl, may be down to game time, but he has been a flop

There is quite a lot of time before the transfer window ends and I think koeman and the board are taking so much time because they want the best for the club and aren't going to rush for players who aren't going to perform well, but if they could sign someone soon so we are more confident for the Bayer Leverkusen match that'd be great, as they are a tough opponent and with the current team I honestly don't think we will win, but at the end of the day, if we have a side as strong (or hopefully stronger) than the team last season then we'll be more confident when we get to anfield, in koeman we trust, COYR!

I really hope not, after all this club has done over the past 5 years it would be a massive let down for us to get relegated, but I still think we'd be able to come back stronger than ever, we've come back from worse before.

At the end of the day there is nothing we can do to prevent jrod and co from leaving, if they want to live their dreams for example to play CL football then theirs nothing we can do about it, but I think with the new manager these players that might be leaving don't know what RoKo has to offer, so IMO they should wait until winter to assess how well the club has progressed then make a decision on whether to leave, also, players like Omar Rowe and such who haven't really played in the first team much have shown tonnes of potential, for example Rowe managed to bag himself a hat trick yesterday and if he could do that for the first team we would have the perfect replacement for jrod, not that I want anyone to leave, c'mon led Reid, get it sorted fast so we don't lose anymore stars, COYR!
