Sky sources saying we have bid 11m for Sadio Mane. Don't know much about the guy, anyone know if he is any good?

1.) 31 Aug 2014 16:20:07
Very fast. Technically quite good and a team player. If he adapted he could be excellent

2.) VERY quick, strong and great at shooting! Very exciting prospect!

3.) After watching Townsend today I think this guy would be a far better option. Still like the idea of Redmond though.

4.) He could be a bit of a gem, he looks class and has a big potential

5.) I know him very well. he is a very good winger with lots of technical abilities. does exceptionally well in one on one situations.
i would be surprised if he`d be available for less than 20 mio euro. at least his team manager said that he would only be allowed to leave for that amount.

6.) Would be a great signing imo. very quick and a good finisher.

7.) I just love the way people apparently know so much about a guy that plays for salzburg. Yes I watched the youtube reel as well but let's face it the level he is playing at is very poor, so ten million represents one huge gamble and with our track record of buying players for big money I do not expect too much.

8.) Worry is will les be able to sign anyone in 2 days, 2 weeks is normally required still fair play for getting big Ron in, a manager with a plan b and c if the chips are down unlike before

Saints to hold talks with Forster after Celtic accept 10 million bid.

jimmythesaint

1.) Hope this is true. With our goalkeeping coach he could become a top man!

{Ed007's Note - It's true.}

2.) 08 Aug 2014 21:16:26
Fantastic news. I would much rather forster than Marshall! Think I might be the only one out there that thinks that but heyho!

COYR
Sotonian

3.) Apparently travelling down over weekend to sort terms. very happy with this. We needed competition for the no1 spot. Mind you at 10mill I can't see him sat on tbe bench. Les has been busy this week. Now seal Rojo, Gardos and a striker and we look stronger than last srason imo.

4.) Ridiculous fee not better than what we already have! Complete waste of money, surely we need outfield players as a priority?

5.) 08 Aug 2014 22:31:36
Can't get my head round this Forster thing. It seems that Boruc will be leaving so why are we paying a massive amount of money for a keeper when we have one that is already better than him. Just can't understand it when we have so many other positions that need attention. Very odd.

6.) In answer to gtsaint for that sort of money he should already be a very, very top man.

7.) Maybe slightly over priced, but a real statement from the board that they are prepared to splash the cash.

Hopefully this will quieten the worriers and the two cbs come in. Maybe this will convince spider to stop moping around

8.) Thanks for letting us know Ed007, and hey not all bad news up there in Scotland after all, reinstated into the next stage of the Champions League and a fairly large fee to build a stronger side.

{Ed007's Note - I'm just praying that we don't play as bad as we did against Legia. The problem is our board and CEO aren't reinvesting in the team, we made a £21 million profit last year and and we're screaming out for a couple of quality additions. We do very well out of buying young players, improving them and selling them on at a good profit but sometimes you just need to pay the going price for proven quality rather than raw talent to help the team improve, we had Alfred Finnbogason lined up last summer, we lost Gary Hooper, Wanyama and Kelvin Wilson for circa £20 million, but the board baulked at the £4.5 million price tag, a couple of seasons playing well in the CL for us and he would have easily been worth £10 - 15m going by the way we are pricing (and getting paid it) for our players.
Sorry, I'm rabitting on here and probably boring you to death lol Enjoy your season, Phil.}

9.) I agree with these comments, I prefer Forster to Marshall because Forster is younger, has shined in the champions league and is English too

10.) Good signing. Cheers Celtic. I really can't see the problem in signing FF. We only have one top keeper. Koeman wants two good players in every position. He has actually said those words. Cheer up. There's more to come #Warsawwererobbed!

11.) Don't apologise for the information Ed007, interesting to hear how Celtic is being run at the moment. Do you think the lack of competition from Rangers is responsible for the board not being too bothered about the players in the team as they see the SPL as won before it even starts?

Good luck for the season and champions league and fingers crossed at some point your board starts to get the message soon and does start to add quality as well as profitability.

12.) No way is Boruc better than Forster, on his day Boruc is unbeatable but he's as clumsy as he is brilliant.
They're about the same ability wise, Forster's just more consistent and less likely to do something silly, plus he'll improve with playing 38 higher level games a season rather than 10 with celtic

13.) 09 Aug 2014 08:49:23
Forster is a good signing. Young, English, and with quality coaching could improve. Boruc last year looked like he didn't really give a crap. I love the guy, and I feel forster waiting in the wings could really get the best out of him. Boruc will have to fight to keep the no1 spot, which will show us a side to him we haven't seen.

14.) Forster is a quality signing, and anyone saying otherwise doesn't know a thing about football.

Firstly, Boruc is grossly unreliable. At his peak, he is an excellent keeper with a good command of his area. However, his personality makes him prone to frequent brain fades - two examples being the water bottle incident against Spurs two years ago, and 'that' Cruyff turn against Arsenal last season. His judgement isn't always the best either. gust of wind aside, you shouldn't be getting beaten by a Asmir Begovic goalkick from the opposing 18 yard box.

Secondly, Forster is a quality keeper. Just because the SPL isn't a 'high' quality league doesn't mean quality players don't play in it. He's England's 2nd/3rd choice ahead of Ruddy and a host of others. He's young as well so he represents a good investment for the future.

Thirdly, Boruc is 31 or thereabouts and I can't see him lasting into his late thirties/early forties like Schwarzer. Further, we have no quality back up so a GK purchase is essential.

Anyone else seen the interview Krueger gave to the telegraph? He said that Koeman was involved in all outgoings and that they didn't want disgruntled players starting a season. He went on to say that they have been in control of the situation and the aim is to make the club a stable premier league club for years to come, not a yo yo team. He says that they are not going to sell the club and that there are still weeks left of the transfer window. They will not stop until we are in a stronger position player wise than last season. All very good and positive, what you think?

jimmythesaint

1.) 06 Aug 2014 01:48:06
I thought that it came across as making excuses for the lack of players in. He repeats the same things about making the company stable blah blah. He almost made it sound that before they came in the club was floundering.
It reeks of the time under Lowe to me.

2.) He's either not telling the truth or he's crazy!

04 Aug 2014 17:16:52
Sunderland in talks to sign Rodwell, why are we always so slow to move and sign players?

jimmythesaint

1.) Don't mind missing out on rodwell as we have a load of midfield players. but where are the other signings? need centre backs, need a striker, need a right back and possibly a keeper if boruc goes. come on reed do it for the fans give us something to get happy about. only just over a week to go. so much for having all the funds at roko's disposal and so much for signing two players at the weekend. pull your finger out guys coys

03 Aug 2014 11:53:25
I'm getting the feeling that the two/three signings that were due this weekend are the loans we looked to have secured. Time is ticking for that reinvestment Mr Reed. We seem to be being linked with lots of players- Clasie would be great, Hernandez and Zaha would also be superb, but please god not Ashley Young, he's been pants for United. If we could get Vlaar, Rojo and a keeper, the squad will be shaping up nicely and i'm certainly more optimistic about the coming season now compared to a few weeks ago. Together as one we are Southampton FC!!

I don't think most saints fans expected it to be honest. This should have been a season to build and push on from what we did last year, not do a complete rebuild job. But we don't want or need players that don't want to be here. We still have some great youngsters and with a few good additions I think we will be ok. Just a word on Everton, Lukaku a great signing hope you boys finish above Liverpool this season!

jimmythesaint

1.) 01 Aug 2014 19:06:34
Yes, let's be positive. We have a new manager who will want the team to play his way and will have a lot of opportunity in terms of personnel to allow that to happen. (So Chambers goes-was he going to be significant in RK plans? Don't think so. Good player but that doesn't mean he can play as RK prefers-look at Shaw and Man. Utd for proof that is not unusual.)
This is a rare opportunity in football where existing "cliques" can often disrupt such plans (watch out for a repeat of this also at Man. Utd. this season, as last.)

I'm sure it will not be a smooth ride, but I think we will prove a few people wrong this season(and would love it to be so.)

Does anyone know what is happening with schneiderlin? Contrary to reports by sky, the daily echo have said that no transfer request was made and that he was at training as normal. Are certain sections of the media just making this s*** up now?

jimmythesaint

1.) 30 Jul 2014 20:28:18
I guess so. The media just want a good story and what better a story than a club being ripped apart. They don't deal in truth they just want the best story. They write what people want to hear and I presume there are more people out there wanting to hear that spider wants to go than not. I've seen an article in the mirror saying clyne, fonte and cork have all handed in transfer requests, and that I don't believe for a second. Especially after fonte's Instagram earlier, he seemed pretty happy there and moral seemed high

2.) 30 Jul 2014 21:44:58
we have signed ryan Bertrand on loan. what do u think?

3.) 30 Jul 2014 21:45:49
lets get torres on loan now

4.) At least we've signed a freeby, don't want to touch that cash

Looks to be done, season long loan. Didn't think he was going anywhere.

If we got those two I think all saints fans would be well happy. We would have a solid squad capable of emulating what we did last season. In Koeman we trust.

Where does that leave Osvaldo deal? Any reason as to why loan was terminated? Certainly going to be an interesting 3 days.

Not seen much, just that Newcastle have joined race for Van Dijk and that we were never interested in Alvarez. Samaras has joined west brom, wonder will he play on Saturday?

Totally agree, I don't understand why they just don't go in and match the asking price straightaway. Its not like we're short of cash and the longer it takes the bigger the chance of another club coming in for him.

Will be amazed if we go for any of them, we don't seem to be interesting any big names. Richards would be great signing. We have solid team just seriously lacking depth. We have great manager in Koeman, have to trust his judgement.

Yeah I read that too, some very interesting points and it has to be said the guy has a point. FFP was brought in to keep the elite teams at the top, smaller clubs don't stand a chance.

Do you think Vlaar would be good signing if we could get him? Would have liked to have seen de vrij at Saints, but Lazio beat us to him.
