Liverpool in for Ricky 9m according to ssn

weysaint

1.) Ricky off to Liverpool 8m, good business I suppose, only club he would leave us for, good for ricky. starting to get a bit worried now, I got a feeling the board already have someone in there minds and have spoken to him about transfers, let's just see what happens, as long as the board buys well I guess we can only wait and see what happens. not sure if I am excited or worried

2.) I would be gutted if he went but really pleased for him at the same time! The fairytale completed basically! Short of winning the world cup too of course!

3.) 29 May 2014 20:00:08
I don't begrudge him the move and wish him all the very very best. But after this week i'm starting to feel like a Turkey that Bernard Matthews has just winked at.

4.) Super Rickie is no doubt a Saints Legend. On his amazing journey to where he is now, I wouldn't begrudge him this move. There the only club he would leave us for.
To get £9m for him at his age, I think everyone's done well.
Good luck SRL, thanks for the memories.

5.) Good business, he's only got a good 18 months and he's getting slower.

We should be looking for a young player to partner Jay Rod.

6.) Couldn't really begrudge him going could we. If anyone turned into a Lambert hater for this move then I would question there saints knowledge. The guy has been an absolute hero for us and going to his boyhood team would be the icing on his fairy tale career cake. Obviously I don't want him to go but all the best if he does. Just please don't score against us Mr Lambert Sir.

7.) 29 May 2014 20:34:12
Have to agree with STGavin, would wish him well if he goes. Lambo has been amazing for us since he came, good luck to you & hope he keeps banging in the goals (Not against us though). This also makes me wonder if we have sorted out the new manager. Would be worried if Les Reed is starting to make transfer deals before a new coach has been appointed.Players leaving before a appointment is crazy (even though £9m is good business) COYR

8.) Is this the same RL that has stated at least twice he wants to end his career at Saints?

Freddie Kruger has already stated that no one will be going anywhere until a new manager is appointed but still the papers fuel the destruction of our team.

Not sure where he will fit in at Liverpool apart from warming the bench.

9.) If this happens then agree with all the above. For Rickie fairy tales will have come true. His goals were crucial in getting us back into the prem but a lot more than just a goal scorer as his england starts have demonstrated.

10.) 29 May 2014 20:50:04
I wish him all the best been a legend for us fired us through the leagues no one should hate him for that move and 9m is great price ,personally think they no the manager they want and possibly just doing the paper work behind the scenes work etc and prob already got target transfers lined up ,glass half full and all that

11.) Good business, may as well cash in now and get someone younger like him

12.) I see on the bbc web site its only 4m fro ricky would not be happy with that

13.) 29 May 2014 22:37:47
Bbc just reported 4m. Whereas I think it is the time to realise cash for an ageing striker, this seems low.

14.) Would like to hear about some signings WE might make rather than Liverpool et al trying to poach our team. Really worried we will be left short at start of season.

15.) 29 May 2014 22:48:06
People keep saying about where Lambert will fit in, Liverpool are in Champions League & they will need Players like him.Dont know the situation about home grown players. Also he will be a replacement for the out going Assaidi who I would imagine will move on.This would mean that we probably keep Jay Rod but would need another 2 strikers as he's out at least till September.

16.) Still with RL linked with Liverpool and osvaldo being chucked off the itchen bridge by a mob of fans if he ever dare wear a saints shirt again and rod linked with spurs we may need to spend BIG up front next season!

17.) What I am wondering now is, what has happened to all the team spirit? We have been fed that the team all work together and are friends that is why it works so well. So we get to the summer one great season and everyone wants to bin it and go to different clubs.

I appreciate that Poch has gone but he is not the team. If all the great "togetherness" is true then if a top manager comes in then the team should stick and move on.

Have we been fed rubbish by the players?

18.) I love Ricky. In my opinion he's been most vital achieving more for saints than any player in our history.

I agree, the only club I wouldn't begrudge him the move has come calling. If he goes I hope he shines. It would be a travesty if his career ended with disappointment.

I hope he isn't just being used as some kind of leverage for Lallana etc.

I have to add, I don't get the acceptance of the fee. do we really care for a few million pound especially if it is the reported £4m. people talk about his age. If he was Jay Rod, someone relying on pace, I'd understand. do you know how good the likes of Sheringham and McCallister were when they lifted European trophies after late career moves.

19.) 29 May 2014 23:33:21
We have gone from a club with ambition challenging for Europe to club throwing it all away for a quick buck. Because the club said it needed to sell to balance the books it appears all the players are up for sale. The club has shown a serious lack of ambition so no wonder players want to leave. We lived the dream for a season & now it's back to relegation fights. If the owner is not interested please sell the club to someone who is. We don't want to be looking back in 5 years time thinking of what could have been if hadn't sold our best players. Imagine if bale, Walcott & chamberlain were still in our squad.

20.) Micro, just because another team has offered some cash for one of our players doesn't mean we are lacking ambition, it means we have done well and have good players which other teams want to buy. Personally i've given up getting concerned and will wait to see what the board and new manager do before hitting the self destruct button. The club have stated no transfers are happening until a manager has assessed the squad (in or out). They have also stated they want to get into Europe. How ambitious do you want them to be?

21.) The fee is £4 million paid over 2 years, with an additional £5 million in clauses.

This is how most transfer fees are paid, not in one Championship Manager lump sum

Liverpool offer 9m for Ricky

weysaint

1.) They must be mounting a strong challenge for the league cup next season then. A) why would they want him and b) why would he go there just to warm the bench and make the occasional guest appearance?

2.) Yeah he will go no daubt, sadly, that is the one move he would push through

3.) We need to keep hold of him

4.) Says 4M now. look I don't brgrudge him the move but just seems like these top 4 teams are just trying to pick whatever bargain they can. there is a danger we make to many sales / changes and we completely lack any cohesion. takes time for a team to gel. at least half a season

A L has asked to leave saints after world cup according too bbc sport, real shame if any truth in this.

weysaint

1.) If true, we should give him wish but at our asking price. Everyone, yes everyone is replaceable. Hopefully, a new manager will be appointed soon and we can get the in's and out's sorted quickly. I would like to see De Boer, but from the odds he looks unlikely. Laudrup is the best alternative to De Boer in my opinion. I hope the appointment shows ambition either way, i. e. not Dyche, Lennon or Maclaren, and that we all get behind the new manager and the changed squad of players that we will have.

2.) This is not exactly true, the beeb has been dumbing down somewhat in recent times and have succumb to lazy journalism, so they are now reporting the same old 'big club' favouring articles that the majority want to hear. So things like player is going to force move to 'big club' is the sort of nonsense they go for now.
