Hi eds,
If Fonte did leave us for Man U which is looking highly likely, could you see us asking for a defender back the other way on loan or buy as part of the deal or even better getting spider back on loan for the season as not getting much game time at Man U.
Thanks for all the good hard work you guys do just wish it was better news most of the time.

Saint Monkey

{Ed002's Note - It tends not to work like that - exchanges are still pretty rare.}

1.) 15 Aug 2016 18:36:41
Yeah, very unlikely as if the other player involved can't agree terms then the whole deal would fall through. Also, we don't want a Utd reject if they are taking a player from us who they deem a starter. Wouldn't make good business. Spider won't come back here. If he left Utd he's go to France.

According to The Daily Star Mauricio Pochettino is ready to use Nacer Chadli as bait to convince Southampton to sell Morgan Schneiderlin. Is he any good or is he one of the flops that Spuds brought last season, no matter what the club says to us I think Schneiderlin will go which will be a massive loss.

Saint Monkey

1.) Chadli was one if the few who actually played well for spurs last year. I wouldn't mind money + chadli as lond as we replace schneiderlin with someone like clasie or dembele.

2.) Came from fc twente, same team tadic came from, was a bright prospect in Holland, hasn't shone at all in the bpl, may be down to game time, but he has been a flop

According to Sky Sports Spider has put in a transfer request, I say get rid and get top dollar for him. He seems to forget we have made him the player he is JUDAS.

Saint Monkey

1.) Tbh honest the feeling I'm getting after looking at the spurs rumour page, coupled with what's on here, is that we are pricing him out of the interested clubs valuation. Levy was interested until we said he would cost around £25m. They just can't afford him after last seasons blow out.
I would really like to see a big bid come in though and test les reed and Krueger. See if his attitude towards spider would change

2.) Regardless, no club is willing to make a ludicrous offer for him it seems so he should be made to stay. If we can get over £30million (supposedly) for Shaw we sure as heck should for Schneiderlin who has pretty much been our best asset the past few seasons. If we don't get that he's not going to stop trying because he knows it'll lower his value and lessen the interest in him.

3.) This is what happens when you sell your 6 best players everyone sees that the vision you've been spouting is absolute p o o and everyone gets annoyed that they have been lied to and everyone wants out. Players DO NOT decide transfers as people keep saying, people at the top do what players DO is make you analyze the risks in not granting them their wish so weather or not they will leave on a free or become a rotten apple. If they are on long term contracts its simple you say tough doo doo your staying its really not that hard if they refuse to train you make an example of them and you bin them to reserves and keep fining them they will soon change their attitude suarez is prime example come on do you really think every club bends over like saints have and sells players when they ask to leave I know its hard to keep them but selling everyone who asks for a transfer is mental you have to draw the line somewhere and it should have been drawn way sooner than after 6 of our best players had gone. Schneiderlin has every right to want to leave he has been lied to and seen all his mates leave for more money and now we are going backwards so why would he wanna be apart of that? Plus he is the one position we have cover for we sell all these players we have no cover for at all then refuse to sell the one player that we do have cover for people at the top are beyond stupid.

4.) Saint Davey, if you take any of those deals individually though you have to say it looks like good business, the board have taken a risk allowing all to go through in one go but other than Chambers where we possibly could have hoped for slightly more, we got very good prices for our departing players.

As for Schneiderlin, no club (apparently at least) will meet our valuation of him because we see him as better than any we've let go so far and essential to build around. So he is definitely the one to stick the foot in the ground over and say "No, you won't stump up the cash, so he will stay here whether he likes it or not. "

The board, if they re-invest wisely, could have made some very wise decisions, the simple answer is we just don't know the full picture yet. Who is coming in to replace these players? Will it really all be re-invested in transfers or is there more future planning? Is this gearing up for a club sale? (Krueger says no to that). Will anyone else leave?

As yet, we don't know the full story, but currently there is a lot of worry. However there is also a lot of potential with the available funds for both short and long term growth.

In the Daily Mail it says both Southampton and Stoke are showing an interest in Norwich winger Nathan Redmond. Hopefully with the way we play we are the more attractive option to him.

Saint Monkey

1.) As a young english lad who would you choose out of the 3? would stoke be able to offer that much more in wages.

2.) You would choose saints out of those 3 clubs?? some fans we have haha :)

11 Jul 2014 07:10:25
According to the Daily Star Southampton's bid to sign Graziano Pelle has stalled with the club unwilling to meet Feyenoord's £9.5m asking price. Ronald Koeman could now turn his attention to Sunderland's Connor Wickham. Also Hull want to sign Southampton centre-back Jose Fonte if they fail in their bid to capture Michael Dawson from Spurs.

Saint Monkey

1.) Nooooo I don't want wickham, get lukaku in or someone with his ability

2.) We can't afford Lukaku. not the price. its his wages

3.) That's why we need to re-configure our wage structure

4.) Pelè has scored 52 goals In Two Seasons. Southampton would Be mad not raise their bid. 😧

5.) Don't know what it is with saints they seem to take ages to sign anyone, get the players in sooner than later to gel with squad,

6.) 11 Jul 2014 11:21:10
saint marco, all teams take a long time to sign players, it's the process. We only notice because we're waiting, but it's the same for fans of every other team. Just have a look at their forums.

"build it and they will come"

7.) WillsaSaint, to up the wage structure we need an increase in revenue or we will start heading down the slippery slope of 5 years ago.

One of the best ways to increase this is to increase season ticket sales to a point that we are at capacity at all games. Then increase the ground size.

The more support from the fans in turning out for games, the better the revenue and the better chances of increasing the wage structure. If we want to grow as a club this is the way forward.

Our sugar daddy days are finished and now we are being run as a business which means balancing the books.

8.) Mateja kezman scored 105 in 122 in holland. it means nothing in the PL. van wolfswinkel also scored for fun there. The club will be looking more at the player than stats and the fact Koeman isn't saying "pay the 12m euro, he is worth every penny" speaks volumes to me.

9.) It was all over twitter last night that the deal is back on, and that potentially Pelle is in Southampton today for a medical. Also reports from Total Dutch Football state that Feyenord are open to selling Pelle, and need the cash. Koeman has a great relationship with Feyenord's Technical Director, and is aware of how much Feyenord are willing to sell Pelle for.

This isn't about the sale of Pelle - this is about the 'Phat Wad of Cash' that Saints have just received.

10.) 11 Jul 2014 16:40:04
Sort of agree with cyprussaint about the slippery slope, however, we will only have maximum season ticket sales if we have a top class team. Unfortunately to do this you have to pay the very best players the very best wages. Catch 22 but I know what you mean.

11.) I don't think we should raise the bid for Pelle, Koeman know the player & his ability. Remember Alfonso Alves, Middelsbrough paid about £15m for a so called proven goalscorer but was useless in the premier league. Not saying he will not be good for use but we have to trust the Manager.

12.) The main stumbling block to changing Saints' wage structure is the new Premiership Financial Fair Platy rules. As I understand them (I'm not an expert), these state that for clubs with total wages above 52 million per year, wages can only increase by 4 million per year, plus the amount of any additional income generated by "revenue from new commercial deals. " Saints were actually at about 47 million in wages last year, so this year our total wage bill can grow by about 9 million. That means a total increase in wages across ALL players and staff at the club of about 170,000 per week is all that is permitted until we have new commercial income in place. This is why we could not match United and Liverpool's huge wage offers to Shaw and Lallana.

According to the Daily Mirror Man U are looking at offering Marcos Rojo in part exchange for Fonte. Have you heard anything Eds and would fellow Saints fans be happy with a deal like that. I for one wouldn't as I think Fonte is the heart and soul of the team and could be in big trouble if he leaves.

Saint Monkey

{Ed001's Note - not heard a thing on that.}

1.) 17 Aug 2016 01:03:55
In his heart he wants to stay but the Ferrari and swimming pool probably appeals more . I think Saints will rebuild this season and finish around halfway ready for a big push again next season.

3.) 17 Aug 2016 04:35:32
Can't see how Rojo would fit at all. no where near good enough for the first team and wouldn't be willing to be sitting on the bench for us.

4.) 17 Aug 2016 10:30:19
We wanted to sign Rojo after the world cup before he benchwarmed at United. I do rate him, don't believe he was given a chance at United.
Nowhere as good as Fonte. Also, originally a LB. He's not physical enough for Prem. Specially because we have two of the best CBs in the air.
If this did go through we'd be replacing Fonte with someone who doesn't have the same attributes as him.
But we've already made 60mil in the transfer window and spent a little less than 30. If the board are doing to Puel what they did with Koeman then he'll get the transfer money to spend. So he has at least another 30mil to spend.

5.) 18 Aug 2016 09:56:11
He had a Ferrari but didn't like it . Has a Bentley and a range with his swimming pool. He's been offered a pay rise closer to £90k a week, on around £70k now. Don't think it's the money more the stature of club. But as we are both playing in the same competitions this year it's not a step up in opponent. Technically it would be less of a challenge as at Utd he would be playing against saints rather than against Utd. Surely to test yourself you need to be defending against ibra/ Rooney/ martial etc.

Ed is there any positive news out their on new signings, I know people will reply with stay calm, positive or be patient, but the season starts in two weeks and the team need time gel. I know Saints try to do business the right way and keep quiet but we need those 2-3 (at least) players in within the next few days. I have had faith in the board and stayed positive and patient, but time is now running out.

Saint Monkey

{Ed033's Note - Nothing positive as yet, the board have to get themselves straight first.

1.) I'm sure I read somewhere that the board wanted the squad complete before the Leverkeusen game. Tick tock, tick tock

2.) 04 Aug 2014 22:58:13
Thats a scary. Thought ed. That even now they are pontificating doesn't bode well. We need them to have their heads screwed on and singing from the same songsheet now more most other times

3.) 05 Aug 2014 09:24:00
this is going back a few weeks and fans are starting
to ask
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON
forestsait

4.) What is going on with our board ed? They say they're not looking to sell the club yet they've only targeted loans and free transfer for the last few weeks despite banking £90m, which is what Villa are doing too as we know their owner wants to sell, so from an outsiders perspective it looks like she doesn't want invest anymore money and could be looking to sell, which is the opposite to what Krueger has said so I guess we'll see

{Ed033's Note - I don't know but the longer it takes to sort out, the harder it will be to stay in the Premier league.

Before all this came to the forefront, Ed001 and Ed002 did warn Southampton fans on this web site that it was going to be terrible time for Southampton fans at the start of the new season.

BTW, you can use our new Southampton team formations app to create a Southampton team

5.) 05 Aug 2014 15:25:21
well what is going on with the board
if the fans ask all they get is a pack of lies
wondering if sfc are in serious financial trouble
because they are not doing what they said
they would be

6.) Ed033 when and where do the team formations show?

{Ed033's Note - If you post the link, they will be posted on the Southampton teams' page

According to Sky Sports news Lovren will undergo a medical at Liverpoo this weekend with the deal reported over £20 million, also Morgan Schneiderlin could be about to link up with former boss at Spuds in the next week or Arsneal (rather he go to Arsenal than Spuds). That means we would have earned a possible £90 million and only spent £20 million, Saints need to start spending some money fast or we will be in a relegation fight all season. Come on Les Reed pull your finger out. COYR

According to the Sunday Mirror Liverpool are set to take their summer spending close to £90m with the £20m capture of Dejan Lovren from Southampton. This really won't bother me if we can get Vlaar to replace him, but the board should stand their ground and hold out for £25 million if they want him so badly.

In the Mail on Sunday it says Southampton have made a last-ditch attempt to snatch Steven Caulker from QPR's clutches.

Also New Southampton boss Ronald Koeman faces a fight to hold onto Jay Rodriguez, with Tottenham linked with an £8m move for the England forward, are they for real we paid that for him in the first place he worth at least double that.

Saint Monkey

1.) 20 Jul 2014 10:07:04
8 million for jay rod someone is dreaming at spuds and liverhampton
the starting price has to be 40 million at least
forestsaint

2.) No team will buy and injured player. seriously, would you spend 8m on something that is broken?
If he gets back to full fitness and starts scoring again I would expect bids around 25m next year if clubs are sniffing around.

I totally agree Ben but if he was to go and for £20 million who would be his ideal replacement as I can't think of anyone that's stands out I would like Gylfi Sigurðsson but a totally different type/style of player.

According to the DAILY MIRROR Southampton want Spurs to include Harry Kane and Andros Townsend in any deal for Jay Rodriguez. I personally would take this plus £5 million, two great Young players plus their wages for the next couple of years.

Edd do you know who the board are looking at if MoPo goes David Moyes is free, wouldn't be the worst manger to get in with his previous experience.

I honestly belive Pelle will go either in this transfer window or the summer to Juventus so he can finish his career in his homeland and guarantee himself some silver wear. I also think Mane will go in the summer for £25-£30 million there is a lots of speculation liking him to some big teams in Europe, again I would blame him. If Pelle did go in this window I think we should replace him with Remy, same sort of money, proven PL experience and got a point to prove with the euros in him home country.

Hi Ed001's thanks for all the work you do on this site for us over passionate Saints fans. I was wondering if you had heard any rumblings or rumours of what positions or players the board are looking at as seems to very quite, and after last nights performance has that kick started anything as I believe we need 3 players CB,Creative MD and a striker to help out Pelle.

Saint Monkey

{Ed001's Note - centre back is still on the agenda, with you know who from Celtic still being a major target, plus a striker. I don't know of any move for a midfielder at the moment. There has been a lot of talk about going in for Austin, it is purely the worries over his knee, and that he is nearly out of contract, that are holding Saints off from firming up interest in him with a bid. Like everyone else, they know QPR have to sell, so are waiting on the price to drop.}
